So I just finished reading the Last Kids on Earth and the Doomsday Race. This novel is the seventh action-packed, monster-filled installment in the series. It picks up seconds after the previous book as the kids are on a road trip searching for the mysterious Tower, a super-secret, super-evil location where their primary foe, Thrull, resides. Thrull is plotting to use the Tower to usher in Rezzoch, the Ancient Destructor of Worlds, upon our dimension. And there is nobody else more capable of this task than the kids of Wakefield. Along on their journey, the kids find themselves swept up by the Mallusk, a gigantic centipede monster carrying the world’s largest shopping mall on its back. Onboard, they encounter a monster community known as Mallusk City, where they reunite with old friends and foes who have control over the entire city. This time, the kids cannot face their enemies in combat and decide to challenge them in an election for the mayor of Mallusk City! As they stay on the Mallusk, the kids realize that nobody is safe and must prepare for an incoming assault. Can the kids gain the trust of the monsters in Mallusk City? Or are they fated to face their doomsday?

From beginning to end, this book is a nonstop post-apocalypse adventure littered with creatures, zombies, and crazy cosmic awesomeness. It’s another solid installment in the series that brings back older characters and puts them on the forefront. There is a fun election that holds stakes and consequences, great character interaction, and a tantalizing cliffhanger asking for the next book. Not to mention the illustrations that convey so much thought and style, and the story being a blast to read through and making it hard to put the book down. The story, action, and illustrations continue to grow by the entry and don’t show any signs of stopping anytime soon. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Jack Sullivan and his friend’s journey to fight otherworldly evil.

This story is so good that it kept me up at night to finish it.

So they have adopted a new monster that could produce super glo. They name it Drooler. Dirk is the adopted big brother.

On their way, they met a really big monster that has a super size shopping mall on its back.

Inside the mall is a population of monsters that do not want to fight. They are like the friendly monsters Jack met on Joe's Pizza.

Evie and a rat monster is the leader of them. Like many politicians, they promise safety and take credits from other people.

Drooler was captured by Evie and now they have to try and get him back, not by fighting but by election.

That's the fun part. How do get friendly monsters to vote for Jack instead of Evie.

Then there are more attack and Jack, Dirk and Quint and June fight monsters.

The only way to defend Evie by election is to reveal the lies that Evie told about a lot of things. Also, Evie loves control and set some restrictive rules. These rules are not good for the monsters population.

4.5 stars read.

This was okay . . .

It ended fairly well and it had an interesting setup.

There is a huge chunk (like the entire rising action) which is completely irrelevant. Not only is it irrelevant to the story and outcome, it is politically charged.

Now, I don't think the book paints either side as a representation of current political figures (neither side is good and this is more like South Park's douche v. turd sandwich, it doesn't matter because the plot is never resolved, and it has no real bearing on the climax and outcome of the story). My real problem is that I'm LOOKING for the connections. I'm not sure how a book written during the 2020 elections can not be completely biased and one sided. Whether the bias is real or imagined is mostly irrelevant because this should be a book that removes me from reality. Instead this pushes even more reality and it is frustrating to read.

A hotdog eating contest, a balloon fight, a bubble blowing competition would have all had the same effect and allowed me to escape reality for a little while.

This book fell well short because of that. All the problems get compounded because of this stupid election, and much more interesting storylines are abandoned in favor of holding this election. We see little of Quint, nothing of Dirk (whose character propels the action to begin with), nothing of Johnny Steve, learn nothing of Thrull, the Cosmic Hand, or our overarching adventure. Jack and Evie's little foray is even more interesting, and it is barely there.

The entire story stagnates in this election which takes nearly a week! Have we lost any sense of urgency?

This was very disappointing, and it feels like we've hit a point where they are trying to sell as much junk as possible and make this take as long as possible. This has become a slog and I won't be along for much more.

Still fun. Still silly. Sometimes the action descriptions can be a little confusing, but I enjoy reading this a lot with my daughter.

311 pgs. This book will take a reader on quite a ride. There is so much action and a nasty rat to boot. I think I am as exhausted as Jack by the end of this one. The illustrations are amazing. The action is non-stop. The kids are as determined and courageous as ever. It is quite an adventure. Some earlier characters reappear and cause a lot of trouble. What more do you want? Oh yeah...the NEXT volume to see what is going to happen. Highly recommended for Grades 4-5.

Super cute addition to the series. Absolutely ended on a cliff-hangar that had my spawn bemoaning the wait.

I thought this book was a really good continuation of the story. I really need to but the next book lol but I’m kinda broke rn lmao. I was really excited to read this because I love all the last kids on earth books, and this one did not disappointtttt. I have recommended this series to many people and I don’t recall ever getting a review back from someone saying they did not like it. It’s not hard to see why so many people love this series. Definitely pick it up if you have not already, it’s worth it. :)

Sheesh, Evie Snark is rapidly moving up my list of villains I'd most like to see dropped into a bottomless pit. If I had to guess, Brallier probably has a redemptive arc planned for Snark before the end of the series but it's going to be a tough sell...

Ever been in a shopping mall that sits on the back of a Mallusk? It’s a journey only Jack Sullivan and his mates could take. With the help of Jacks zombie controlling powers of course! They head towards the mysterious Tower which requires quite a team to defeat Rezzoch the ancient, Destructor of Wrolds.

Along their journey they encounter old foes who are ruling over the Mallusk city and all its monster inhabitants. Thank fully they also meet up with some allies too and so begins the political stand off between friend and foe with a surprising winner.

During the action packed stand off against evil friends are saved and friends are lost............hopefully not forever as this is where the book left us in suspense. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I am inspired by the strength of their friendships. And the fun they have along the way. I look forward to the next instalment.

Jack, Dirk, Quint, and June are hopeful for the future now that they have the little Drooler. But then they literally get run over by the biggest mall in the world, and suddenly they find themselves riding the Mallusk with Evie and Ghatz controlling the slime and a whole bunch of other monsters who think they're hiding out from the events of the world in this huge mall. June wants to recruit the monsters for the good guys and overthrow Ghatz and Evie in a vote for mall mayor. Dirk just wants to rescue Drooler. And Ghatz has made it clear he wants to kill Thrull (who he thinks has the powers that Jack actually has...which means Jack better not let Ghatz know the truth or he's dead). Oh, Quint is training to be a wizard, and Jack's cosmic hand is doing weird things.

Another fun set of adventures with the gang that helps build the momentum to what I'm guessing is going to be the big finale soon. June as campaign manager was funny. There's a set of circumstances that help humanize Evie a little bit, and it's always fun to imagine what it would be like to live in a mall with access to all sorts of fun things 24/7. Brallier knows how to have the perfect mix of serious, humorous, nerdy, and tender. I know our readers will be thrilled to have this one hit the shelves.

Notes on content: A couple hecks if that is a word your reader is concerned about. Nothing else language-wise. No sexual content. There are some battles and while mostly monsters are hurt or things made of bones/sticks, there is one serious beating of one monster by another (some in pictures), and another serious injury of one monster by another (more implied than shown).

The latest edition of The Last Kids on Earth series has some good moments with the main characters and comic relief from new and returning side characters like Johnny Steve, Drooler, and Evie and Ghazt who have transformed into comic relief rather than chief nemesis. However, this is probably my least favorite of the series so far for a few reasons:

One, because we don't really get much back story from the main characters like we have in other books. We've gotten some good history on Jack, June, and Dirk in previous installments and I was hoping to learn more about Quint this time around. We get a little bit of character development from Evie, but she doesn't seem as important a character as our main quartet.

Second, this book didn't seem to move the plot forward in any significant way compared to the previous books. Jack learned a little bit more about the Cosmic Hand, but nothing was confirmed and he didn't perform any major acts with it. We also learned where Thrull is, though the climactic confrontation didn't lead to much. The best thing we got was a slew of new monsters to join the fight against Rezzoch's forces. The ending indicated that the next book is coming pretty quickly - Spring 2022, so hopefully some of the big questions will be answered by then.

Overall this remains one of my kids favorite series and reading them aloud together is a highlight with each new release.

This is the seventh book in this amazing series for middle schoolers. My nephew and I have been reading this series from the beginning and I hope we can finish the series before he outgrows it.

Once again the gang is struggling across the United States trying to survive against Thrull, the evil alien trying to conquer Earth. What I love about this series is you have Quint, the nerdy kid whose is Jacks best friend. Quint can invent just about anything. Dirk was the school bully and is now a enforcer for the squad and like most bully’s, a big softie. Jane is our lone female, and she is badass. She is not afraid of anything, except of not finding her family. Then we have Jack. Jack was a foster child, who now has made his own family with his friends, human and monsters. Jack has the Louisville Slicer that gives him power over zombies, which helps fighting the bad guys.

Okay first of all this book is one of the best books in the series! The whole alection part was not my cup of tea but it was still enjoyable! I liked the idea that the mosters had to trow there ballot balls to see who won because i just think that would be so fun and cool! The ending is shocking considering the 2 of the main charecters are gone, lost and missing! I litterly have like no idea what could have happened to them and i am still puzzzled and trying to let my brain rest so that it can come up with a teoriy but i got none. Im realy excited for whats in store in the next book!

PS: If Max Brailer is reading this then can you make a dirk book about what happened before are heros meat him in the first book after the apocalips started?

Vauhdikas seikkailusarja postapokalyptisessä maailmassa täynnä zombeja ja hirviöitä, joista osa on hyviä ja osa tosi, tosi pahoja. Jack ystävineen on matkalla kohtaamaan toistaiseksi isoimman pahiksen, estääkseen maailmoja tuhoavan megajätti pahiksen tulemisen maahan.

The real rating would be 3.5 for this book because it has brought back a character from June's wild ride. And has a very good final battle. The ending is near perfection and made me really excited to read the next book in the series. I'm just dropping the rating a bit of the rating because it doesn't make sense of how their in a monsters belly that other monsters made a mall out of and they just get out whenever they want . It's still a good book with a proper structure. I recommend it for last Kids on Earth fans . The pictures are the best they have ever been in this hole series, and also its very funny

I think this is my favorite so far out of the books because of all the detail, I am so excited for the next book to come out in the spring and figure out what happened to Quint and Dirk and why that bone howler was split in half perfectly and the front half was gone, also to figure out what Ghazt is hiding that Thrull wants to find out.

Another great book in the series. While it is still lighthearted, goofy, and childish at points (as it's meant to be), I genuinely enjoy the immense story that Brallier has created. With a fun story and his ability to create fun, lovable characters in every book, I always look forward to more of Brallier's books!

Super good book. I can’t write this without mentioning how badass that last display from Thrull was. Dude just wrecked Ghazt. And I’m all for another side story. Loved the June solo book that gave us awesome characters like Johnny Steve, Globlet, and Neon. Dirk is actually my favorite character aside aside from Jack, so, looking forward to this duo solo book!

It had been a while since I had read a Last Kids on Earth book. This was a great refresh to the originals. I thinks KIDS should read this. I wouldn't think lots of people over 16 would be super into this book, but to me I think this one was great.

This book, #7 in a great series has helped me heal my son’s broken heart after a contentious divorce between me and his mother. The Last Kids on Earth is like Chicken Soup for the Soul in my son’s eyes. Thank you Max Brallier for giving my son a temporary escape from his emotional pain.
