Paul Dini is an American television producer of animated cartoons. He is best known as a producer and writer for several Warner Bros./DC Comics series, including Star Wars: Ewoks, Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, The New Batman/Superman Adventures, Batman Beyond and Duck Dodgers. He also developed and scripted Krypto the Superdog and contributed scripts to Animaniacs (he created Minerva Mink), Freakazoid, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. After leaving Warner Bros. In early 2004, Dini went on to write and story edit the popular ABC adventure series Lost.

Paul Dini was born in New York City. He attended the Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California on an art scholarship. He attended Emerson College in Boston, where he earned a BFA degree in creative writing. (He also took zoology classes at Harvard University.)

During college, he began doing freelance animation scripts for Filmation, and a number of other studios. In 1984, he was hired to work for George Lucas on several of his animation projects.

The episodes of the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon that were written by Dini have become favorites amongst the show's fans over the internet, although despite this as well as contributing to interviews on the released box sets of the series, Dini has made no secret of his distaste for Filmation and the He-Man concept. He also wrote an episode of the Generation One Transformers cartoon series and contributed to various episodes of the Ewoks animated series, several of which included rare appearances from the Empire.

In 1989, he was hired at Warner Bros. Animation to work on Tiny Toon Adventures. Later, he moved onto Batman: The Animated Series, where he worked as a writer, producer and editor, later working on Batman Beyond. He continued working with WB animation, working on a number of internal projects, including Krypto the Superdog and Duck Dodgers, until 2004.

He has earned five Emmy awards for his animation work. In a related effort, Dini was also the co-author (with Chip Kidd) of Batman Animated, a 1998 non-fiction coffee table book about the animated Batman franchise.

Dini has also written several comics stories for DC Comics, including an acclaimed oversized graphic novel series illustrated by painter Alex Ross. (A hardcover collection of the Dini and Ross stories was published in late summer 2005 under the title The World's Greatest Superheroes.) Other books written by Dini for DC have featured his Batman Animated creation Harley Quinn as well as classic characters Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel and Zatanna.

Best known among Dini's original creations is Jingle Belle, the rebellious teen-age daughter of Santa Claus. Dini also created Sheriff Ida Red, the super-powered cowgirl star of a series of books set in Dini's mythical town of Mutant, Texas. Perhaps his greatest character contribution is the introduction of Harley Quinn (along with designs by Bruce Timm) on Batman: The Animated Series.

In 2001 Dini made a cameo appearance in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back during the scene in which Jay and Silent Bob wear ridiculous looking costumes for a film being directed by Chris Rock, in which Dini says to them "you guys look pretty bad ass".

In 2006, Dini became the writer for DC Comics' Detective Comics. That same year, he announced that he was writing a hardcover graphic novel starring Zatanna and Black Canary. In 2007, he was announced as the head writer of that company's weekly series, Countdown. Paul Dini is currently co-writing the script for the upcoming Gatchaman movie. Dini is also currently writing a series for Top Cow Productions, based in a character he created, Madame Mirage.

Paul Dini is an active cryptozoologist, hunter and wildlife photographer. On a 1985 trip to Tasmania, he had a possible sighting of a Thylacine. He has also encountered a number of venomous snakes, a Komodo Dragon and a charging Sumatran Rhi

Robin and Mr. Freeze in Window Shopping by Alan Burnett, Paul Dini & Jordan Gibson
Robin has to stop Mr. Freeze from freezing some stores. This is set in Batman: The Animated Series and Paul Dini, of course, knocks it out of the park.

Vixen and the Super-Pets in The Syphoning by Tee Franklin & Yancey Labat
I really like Labat's art but the story is suspect with all the goofiness of the Super Pets. Feels like it's set in a weird alt universe where animals talk.

Bizarro in Bizarro Vs. Seasonal Depression: Dawn of Climate Change by Amedeo Turturro & Jason Howard
I couldn't even get through this. Deciphering Bizarro's dialogue makes my brain hurt and Howard's art was subpar. I made it through 2 and a half pages and skimmed the rest.

Firestorm and Killer Frost in Stay Frosty by Jeff Trammell & Justin Mason
Firestorm and Killer Frost share monitor duty on Christmas Eve. Firestorm is constantly trying to catch her doing something nefarious. Meh. The art is also suspect.

Polar Boy in Snow Date by Rich Bernatovich & Travis Mercer
Polar Boy goes on a date with Cosmic Queen. The art reminded me of Chris Sprouse and the story reminded me of the 90's era of the LSH. Good stuff.

Harley Quinn and Blue Snowman in A Change of Heart by Tara Roberts & Eric Battle
I still don't care for Battle's art but the story was decent. Obscure Wonder Woman villain Blue Snowman teams up with Harley and Hawkman to save Poison Ivy when she gets really sick.

Flash and Captain Cold in Christmas: Cold and Fast by Bobby Moynihan & Pop Mhan
Bobby Moynihan of SNL fame writes this story where Captain Cold and Flash save Christmas.

JLQ in Break the Ice by Andrew Wheeler & Meghan Hetrick
There's too many characters in this Justice League Queer story to be good. Hetrick's art is always a treat though.

Robin & Mr. Freeze in “Window Shopping”: 5 ⭐
As a fan of Batman TAS and The New Adventures, I loved this. So endearing, and true to what I picture from that universe.

Vixen and the Super-Pets in “The Syphoning”: 3 ⭐
Was Okay, but also a bit ehh. Not terrible, not great.

Bizarro in “Bizarro v. Seasonal Depression: Dawn of Climate Change” (cringe try-hard title): 0 ⭐
Truthfully I couldn't finish this story. I cannot stand stories that are ALL Bizarro talk. It's so mind numbing and I sigh every time I have to read pages and pages of backwards dialogue. STOP. DOING. IT.

Firestorm and Killer Frost in “Stay Frosty”: 4 ⭐
I enjoyed this one, weirdly. It started off a bit meh but quickly reeled me in, and makes me wish we got more Firestorm on the main DC titles.

Polar Boy on “Snow Date”: 2 ⭐
This was fine, for what it was. I have no idea who any of the people are, though. So was hard for me to care.

Harley Quinn and Blue Snowman in “A Change Of Heart”: 3 ⭐
Thought I'd hate this but they pulled out Hawkman and got me interested, slightly.

Flash and Captain Cold in “Christmas: Cold and Fast”: 5 ⭐
Once again, there's a Christmas Special that includes an incredible Flash story. I few years ago one of these oversized Xmas DC books had one of my all-time favourite one-shot Flash stories and I think they've done it again with this one. So. Good.

JLQ in “Break The Ice”: 2½ ⭐
Nothing too groundbreaking, or interesting, tbh. But it's not terrible. It's just very... "So-so".

This was a really fun and cute holiday read (for the most part lol). I really enjoyed the mix of characters used in this and the kind of stories included. I really appreciate that a lot of these DC one-shots utilize characters we don't get to see nearly enough.

One Snowy Night: 4/5
I think this is probably the strongest story in the collection. It was just really well done and felt like a nice complete little tale.

The Syphoning: 3.5/5
This was a fun and cute little story. I loved the extremely unexpected team up of Vixen and the Super-Pets, and it was honestly just fun to see all of those characters have an adventure.

Bizzaro V. Season Depression: Dawn of Climate Change!: 1/5
Beside the super wacky and fun title, there sadly wasn't really much I enjoyed about this story. It was the only one in the bunch that didn't work for me at all. The way it was written, while true to the world and characters presented, just did not work for me.

Stay Frosty: 5/5
Okay...I know I said that "One Snowy Night" was the strongest story in the collection, and I stand by that. But this was my favorite story, I just thought the humor and heart worked really well together. It had both visual humor and dialogue that was humorous, and surprisingly both actually worked for me. I also enjoyed the team up between Firestorm and Killer Frost, another unexpected but fun mashup of characters.

Snow Date: 2/5
I really don't have a lot to say about this one. I didn't love. I didn't hate it. Meh.

A Change of Heart: 3/5
This one was fun! I love the SUPER weird team up between Harley Quinn, Hawkman and Blue Snowman. I could never have predicted that combination of characters would be working together to save Poison Ivy if you gave me 1,000 chances, and it was great. This story was sweet and fun, but
also, a little hokey at the end.

Christmas: Cold and Fast: 2/5
Mmmmmmm. Not much to say about this one either. Just wasn't really for me. The humor was stupid and unfunny to be honest and the story is one that you've seen before.

Break the Ice: 4/5
I mean, it was the JLQ so I'm biased and I loved it. This is just such a fun group of characters and I really like their dynamic. The actual meat and potatoes of the story isn't the best but it was an enjoyable read and I liked the overall narrative. And like I said, I just love these characters. (And the final note in the story?? Does this mean we will be getting a JLQ mini or ongoing???!!!!)

This year's holiday anthology from DC seems serviceable to me. It has the appropriate holiday tropes and feelings, which makes it quite likeable in my opinion. One Snowy Night is my favorite story and it starts off the collection.

Nice group of fun stories by talent old and new. My review excludes the Bizarro story, as I couldn’t stand the constant “opposite” dialogue and narration.

Overall a cute holiday bundle with some good, some great, some mediocre and one awful story. Interesting group of characters, several I did not know before.

ONE SNOWY NIGHT 4/5
Very cute Tim Drake story. Liked seeing the soft side of Mr. Freeze as well.

THE SYPHONING 2/5
I didn't know vixen, but her powers look interesting. Penguin was the villain. Super pets were there. It wasn't that interacting and felt a bit mid.

BIZARRO V. SEASONAL DEPRESSION: DAWN OF CLIMATE CHANGE! 1/5
The language made this pretty much impossible to enjoy. Or "Not me did not dislike this not very amazing novel" as they would write in this comic. (I did not like this very awful comic). And that's despite Bizarro being my favourite character in Red Hood and the outlaws 2016

STAY FROST 2/5
Cute. I like Killer Frost, but Firestorm was both stupid and annoying. Thought a three at first but writing this brought it down to 2.

SNOW DATE 3.5/5
Comet queen is so pretty. The story was very sweet, even though I have no idea who anyone was. The art was really good as well!

A CHANGE OF HEART 3/5
Blue snowman was nice. Harley taking up with Hawkman was fun, overall just a fun cute story!

CHRISTMAS COLD AND FAST 5/5
I think this is my first flash story ever, and I really enjoyed it. It gives hallmark Christmas movie, but I happen to really enjoy those.

"JLQ" BREAK THE ICE 2/5
Seemed to be inspired by the fairy tale of the snow queen, but with a king instead. It tried to tackle heavier themes but didn't have enough pages to really work them out imo.

Robin and Mr. Freeze in Window Shopping by Alan Burnett, Paul Dini & Jordan Gibson
Set in Batman: The Animated Series 'verse.
Great art. Bad guys aren't always out to be bad. Cute. 4*

Vixen and the Super-Pets vs Penguin in The Syphoning by Tee Franklin & Yancey Labat
Art's great but I'm not really a fan of super-pets and the underlying message was heavy handed. 3*

Bizarro in Bizarro Vs. Seasonal Depression: Dawn of Climate
I saw Bizarro had his own story and I was 'yay'. Then I realised it was so completely unreadable that I couldn't enjoy it. Art is middling. 2*

Firestorm and Killer Frost in Stay Frosty by Jeff Trammell & Justin Mason
Firestorm (or at least Ronnie) is a jerk. Rest of the story was okay. With characters regularly slipping between hero and villian it's easy to see where Ronnie is coming from. Art is okay. 3*

Polar Boy in Snow Date by Rich Bernatovich & Travis Mercer
I don't know either of those characters but I love myself an icy boy. Story was fun. And the art was great. 4*

Harley Quinn and Blue Snowman in A Change of Heart by Tara Roberts & Eric Battle
Not sure about the art but the story is great. And the implications is definitely there that Harley and Ivy are a couple. 4*

Flash and Captain Cold in Christmas: Cold and Fast by Bobby Moynihan & Pop Mhan
Great story and art. Flash and Captain Cold save Christmas. 5*

JLQ in Break the Ice by Andrew Wheeler & Meghan Hetrick
We need more JLQ stories. This one was great and the art was excellent. 5*

A bit light, a bit meh - but the Harley Quinn/Ivy helped bump it up for me. Quick reading, but also a reminder that I am far more interested in indie and M-rated comics titles at this point in my life.

The Robin and Mr Freeze story was good. The Firestorm story was OK. The rest ranged from "meh" to "unreadable." I think I need to pull out some old Hellboy winter specials if I want to read some good Christmas comics...

The Paul Dini / Alan Burnett story definitely tries the DCAU style and makes for a nice Freeze story. The rest feels all over the place.

I enjoyed half the stories I think. No surprise Harley and Ivy’s one was my favorite. Mention for the cover, I’m obsessed with the gorgeous art on it!!

Yes, I know I'm reviewing this too early for Christmas but I started it a year ago and figured I should finish it. Rating this in the middle as it really depends on the story.

One Snowy Night: 4.5/5 Nothing too extraordinary, a nice little Mr Freeze story based on BTAS

Syphoning: 3.5 Vixen teams up with the Super Pets. A good idea, it's nice this anthology includes smaller characters like Superman's pet super monkey (yes that's a thing).

Bizarro: 1/5. I know bizarros talk like that, but damn is that hard to read. The entire story is written in that backwards way that I doubt is worth poring over to read. Might just be me, but this wasn't great.

Stay Frosty: 4 Neat story featuring Firestorm warming up to the new (good) Killer Frost. I do wish they'd change her name, since she's not evil so why keep 'killer' in the name, she's just another ice meta, no need to link her to the past Frosts.

Snow Date: 4 Again, cute story, nice use of the more minor Legionnaires. Just adding I love Polar Boy's modern design.

A Change of Heart: 3 Quite nice, but everything gets solved by contrived coincidences and the power of friendship... yeah. Hawkman teaming with Batman and WW villains was unexpected.

The Holiday Pact: 5 I'm here for the friendly Wally West + Captain Cold interactions. Also CC is given depth, not a unique thing but enjoyable.

Break the ice: 3 Had no idea JLQ was a thing and apparently it's not really, as far as I know half of them aren't leaguers. The story felt oddly rushed and empty, even for a short story. I like that Extraño and Icemaiden are acknowledged, since Sigrid was screwed over back in the JLI days.

Overall, 2.5 rounded up to 3 stars.

This was an okay holiday anthology. The first story, Window Shopping, is probably the best. Done in the style of Batman the Animated Series and featuring Robin and Mr. Freeze.

Bizarro Vs. Seasonal Depression was cute, even if reading Bizarro dialogue is absolutely painful. Still, I liked seeing Bizarro Superman and Bizarro Lex as friends.

There's a Vixen and the Super Pets story (Syphoning) that I feel like I should like more than I do. I like Vixen. But this one misses the mark for me.

The Harley Quinn story (A Change of Heart) is marred by some so-so art and Poison Ivy spends the whole thing in a hospital bed while Harley teams up with Blue Snowman and Hawkman to get the magic thing to save her. Pretty mid, to be honest.

Stay Frosty features Firestorm (who is somehow two people?), as he is forced to patrol with former villain Killer Frost. He has a hard time accepting that she's changed for the good. I've seen these characters in things, but don't really know them. This was okay.

The Flash story, Christmas: Cold and Fast was a lot of fun. I'm not even a Flash fan, but this was easily one of the strongest stories in the collection. Flash and Captain Cold have an unlikely team-up to bring some Christmas magic to the city. And the final panel made me laugh out loud.

There are also a couple of stories with characters I've never heard of:

Snow Date features a character named Polar Boy. I don't have much to say about this one. The art is nice, but I don't know these characters and didn't get much out of it.

The JLQ story Break the Ice is basically Disney's "Frozen" rehashed and crammed into a couple of pages. I am all for a queer Justice League, but it's disappointing that they apparently don't have any of the more well known LGBTQ+ superheroes on the team, and this just wasn't much of a story.
