Nicole, Blake, Chris, Kate and Danielle are back in this third installment of the Elementals series by Michelle Madow. In the first book Nicole moved to a new town and learned that magic is real. She also discovered she not only had magical powers but unlike her friends who were witches, she was a demigod. The group of five were gifted extra abilities when a comet passed by and then learned of a prophecy and that they as a group needed to help save the world from the Titans who would soon return to Earth.
The latest mission the group needs to take on is to find a way to obtain the head of Medusa to use to defeat those crossing over from the prison world. In order to obtain Medusa's head they need to first take off on a mission to retrieve a sword to use against Medusa and the action doesn't stop from there.
The Elementals series is an extremely action packed, fast paced young adult fantasy adventure based heavily on Greek mythology. There's never a dull moment in the books as the characters take on each dangerous task to try to save the world. There's a tad bit of romance in the books but really it's a secondary plot point as the action usually completely takes over the story.
This is definitely one series that I've found myself completely enjoying and highly anticipating each book as they come out. It's set to be a a five book series and each has been filled with fast paced action so far in the journey. It's fun to read about the Greek Gods and other mythological creatures involved and I can't wait to see what happens next after the twists and turns in this read.

"My heart dropped at his question. I'd hoped he was going to say something else... maybe something about his feelings for me."And just when I thought that this series just keeps getting better and better, The Head of Medusa came out to say, SURPRISE BITCH!
This sequel started out with Nicole talking about her feelings and it was such a worst sequel for someone who's never been a fan of this ship/couple, a.k.a yours truly.
I'm just sad to say that this book kinda fail me. Maybe I expected a lot. I mean how can I not? I thought this sequel was about Danielle, my favorite character in this series. That she'll finally have her moment, but I was wrong, because everything still spins around Nicole and Blake and I just kept getting tired of it.
I also have problem with the sequence of events in this book. Since the book was super fast-paced and focused too much on the characters, there were a lot of things that doesn't make sense to me. Like how easy was it for them to literally run away from a God they tricked, even if we are talking about a minor God here.
Don't get me wrong, I liked my YA-read to be fast paced because it can make me, as a reader more engage in the story, but not this time around. I didn't need extra information about the characters anymore since they are already introduced on the first book, but still somehow, along the way, they fell flat on me and the emotions just weren't real for me anymore.
It's too late for me to give on this series already, so I guess I'll still read the next 2 books and I'll continue to hope that it will get better.

Dwa poprzednie tomy bardzo mi się podobały i nie mogłam się doczekać aż sięgnę po tę część.
Ogromnym plusem jest to, że autorka umiejętnie przypomniała nam, co wydarzyło się w poprzednich książkach. Czytałam je jakoś 3 miesiące temu i rzeczywiście niektóre rzeczy pozapominałam. Na szczęście na początku dostajemy przypomnienie.
Mam wrażenie, że każdy kolejny tom jest coraz lepszy. Choć było kilka rzeczy przewidywalnych, to jednak autorka potrafiła nas też zaskoczyć. Akcja cały czas pędzi. Czytamy to bardzo szybko i przede wszystkim nie sposób oderwać się od tej pozycji.
Książka ta kończy się w takim momencie, że już nie mogę doczekać się kolejnej części.
Naprawdę polecam tę serię, zwłaszcza jeśli ktoś lubi mitologię grecką.

The third installment in the Elementals series sees our gang setting out on another adventure, this time to Antartica to claim a sword they need to claim the Head of Medusa. This is all in an effort to stop the Titans from opening the portal from Kerberos and unleashing their special brand of hell on Earth.
Their adventures take them to movie star Flynn in LA where things really start to hit the fan!
The last third of this book was engrossing and that ending was awesome, even if I did predict who the traitor was and guessed that something was going to happen to X (no spoilers here!) from a reference made at the start of the book. The earlier twist involving one of the elementals came out of nowhere and it was a good surprise, but to be honest, I'm not overly connected to that character and I'm not hugely concerned over what happens to Y.
I loved that we had more romance in this one as I've felt it was lacking a litle in the first two books. Nicole and Blake are so sweet together and I adored all the romantic moments and seeing their relationship develop. Blake is totally swoon-worthy. I did feel that the plot took a bit of a backseat in this one and not a hell of a lot happens until the fast-paced last portion.
Another thing I really like about this series is the greek mythology and how creatively Michelle has woven the mythology into the plot.
All in all, this was a decent continuation of the series, and I'm definitely invested enough to want to continue. Particularly after that spectacular ending!

This series continues to be a good one. I like how this one had a lot action and it got going from the start. Which was nice because I hate being bored. I'm so glad I already bought the next book because that ending was something else but in a good way.

Another great book in this super fun, fast-paced series! The Head of Medusa picks up right where The Blood of the Hydra left off. This is the third book in The Elementals series in which the group's limits are put to the test and loyalties are tested!
One thing that stood out for me was the romance, it most certainly gets a lot more spotlight in this book compared to the previous two in the series. Some are saying this one is primarily a romance book, I on the other hand wouldn't go that far. Nicole and Blake finally decided to make themselves an official couple! Yes things finally heat up, but they are still evolving as a couple. It was interesting watching them find their way as a couple and trying their best to remain focused on the task at hand. I cannot wait to see how things heat up even more so (hopefully) in the next book!
My next favorite thing about this book was the pacing. Michelle is a master when it comes to perfect pacing and makes her stories super fun to read, I had a blast reading this book! This is the perfect book to pick up if you're suffering from a book hangover!
If you follow my blog you know I am a sucker for a good plot twist. The big one in this one I guessed pretty easily. I was slightly let down, but at the end of the day it didn't make the book any less enjoyable for me.
Now let's talk action. On one hand I felt there wasn't quite as much action packed moments as there were in the last book of this series. (As I mentioned above the romance is a bit more pronounced in this book, so the action is still there just not as much as the last book.) However on the other hand, I believe the group as a whole are starting to see some major repercussions of their actions, without spoiling anything for you things are much more serious in this one than the first two books. To put it bluntly, shit hits the fan!
I don't want to go into this too much, you know I hate spoilers! But there is a MAJOR, I repeat MAJOR cliffhanger, so be prepared! I'm not sure how I'll manage to wait for the next book with that ending!
A couple of things to sum up my review. Imagine Starcrossed meshed with Percy Jackson, that's The Head of Medusa! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced book with plenty of romance, Greek mythology, magic and fun!

No spoilers, but I knew it!! Grrrrr!! Full review on Lisa Loves Literature later this week as part of a blog tour.
This one ended up feeling quite a bit like a much quicker read than the first two. Not in a bad way necessarily, just seemed to go pretty quick. It was something that when you picked it up, you had trouble putting it down. The different tasks the Elementals had to face in this book where definitely good ones, and the first one especially was pretty unique, well, compared to other books like this that I've read. And then of course the part of dealing with Medusa, that was great! We have our five normal members of the gang, and then we had someone come back from the last book. Someone that I just wasn't sure if they should trust him, no matter how much he tried to convince them he was there to help.
In the battle with Medusa there is a shocking turn of events for one of the five, now six. At the beginning of the book we had a little bit of help from a surprise person. And at the end of this one we have a little bit of a setback, something that will cause a problem for not only one of the five, but for all of them who have to try to solve this big event without them to help. While I kind of had a good idea of what could possibly happen, I didn't know exactly how it would unfold, and I definitely didn't see just who would be behind it overall.
Once again Madow has written a really fun book, with unique takes on the Greek mythology and putting it into modern day, like the Percy Jackson series. Definitely another highly recommended book in a highly recommended series!

I suppose things got pretty dark in book 2, but I wasn't invested in the particular characters that were affected, so it didn't seem like too big of a deal to me. Book 3 is a different story!
There are a lot of parallels to Rick Riordan's series, which may bother some people. If you loved Rick Riordan's work and are looking for a similar story, I think you'll love this!

I'm glad I continued with this series, because these books are continuing to get better!
This book was a fast paced and action packed journey. I blew through this book so quickly! I always like how Madow's books are fun and quick reads. Some of the events/missions seem a bit ridiculous, but this is a fantasy novel, so that is expected!
I really enjoyed how Madow continued included more Greek mythology in this book. It was really interesting to learn more about some of the heroes, goddesses/gods, and creatures that are all a part of Greek mythology. It was easy to see that Madow has done a lot of research, and it really paid off.
One thing that bothered me about this book was Nicole. It bugged me that she was so good at everything! I felt like Nicole was constantly the only one out of the group who was able to do crucial tasks. It got really repetitive and annoying. It made her seem like she was a special snowflake, which really bothered me. It annoyed me in the previous book as well. Hopefully this will change with the next book.
The romance between Nicole and Blake was a lot more prominent in this book. I thought they were really cute together! They felt like an insta-love couple, which has bothered me since book one. However, their romance was a lot better in this book because it was lacking the drama from the previous books. There were a lot of sweet moments between Nicole and Blake, and I appreciated those little moments! I would have liked their romance to have been more of a slow burn, but I am just glad that they are happily together now.
There were some plot twists that I really did not see coming in this book! Some of the plot twists shocked me, made me cheer, and some crushed my heart....DARN YOU MICHELLE MADOW.
Overall, I enjoyed this book! The Head of Medusa was a fun and fast paced read. I am looking forward to seeing what will happen in book four!

This series is so addicting! With such a fast-paced read, I can't help but keep turning the pages to find out what happens next!
I love how the plot thickens in the next installment of Michelle Madow's Elementals series! She has packed so much adventure and action into this series, and I love it! There is always something exciting happening, somewhere new to visit.
The main characters in the book keep growing closer with every new task they face. I am seeing some personal growth in some of the characters as well. I really like how Danielle seems less bitchy as the series progresses. Nicole is still wrestling with some of her inner turmoil. I don't know why, but I just can't connect with her character at all. She is very annoying to me, and I prefer the other characters to her. While there is a little more development with the characters, I feel like they could use a little more depth.
While some parts of the story were predictable for me, there were a few things that surprised me. I am excited to see how these things wrap up in the coming books.
I think that the fast-paced way that the book is written takes away from some of the details in the book. The book is mostly action and dialogue. I know that many people prefer fast-paced books, but in this instance I feel like the pacing takes away from the world building. More details about the world and characters would have been better to me, as opposed to a quick read.
As with the first two books, I love the premise. It is very unique, which I absolutely approve of. I adore the mythology that it woven with paranormal. It's definitely not something I've read before.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It flows together very nicely with the second book. There is plenty of action and I can't wait to read the next book in the series! If you are a fan of Michelle Madow's books, you will not be disappointed! If you loved fast-paced young adult fantasy, then this book is for you!

Another fast-paced action-packed offering, though the events are not quite as engaging as part 2.
We remain focused on Nicole and Blake, and the group have to get Athena's golden sword in order to get the head of medusa.
There were some amusing moments in here, but I felt less concerned about the characters this time around. Until the moment where we have the ultimate act of friendship from Kate. That I did not see coming, and it definitely hints at potential for later.
I think we'd been given a lot of clues that the ending would feature the supposed twist, though I'm surprised Madow didn't try to 'flesh out' Apollo.
We remain focused on Nicole and Blake, and the group have to get Athena's golden sword in order to get the head of medusa.

I think we'd been given a lot of clues that the ending would feature the supposed twist, though I'm surprised Madow didn't try to 'flesh out' Apollo.

After reading the book and seeing these reviews I have to think DID WE READ THE SAME BOOK? I THINK NOT! LORD HELP THOSE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
SPOILERS AHEAD:
Oh look Kate has a new makeover and is trying to be overly girly in a fight with Medusa instead of being practical... Which is why she gets her come up. This book lands us 3 weeks out from the fantastically gory death of Rachel and foreshadowing of Ethan turned Luke going off on his own. Bam! Right back into a new quest! Again they are on a quest that sounds exactly like the one in Percy Jackson that features Medusa. The opening has Rachel all up in her feelings and it was cringeworthy with eye rolls to boo! If you are an "I will go down with this ship" type of reader then you might actually enjoy this one- I am not and as a result, despised this book! There is never an acceptable time to date someone or sneak around with someone that is romantically involved with a teammate or IS a teammate! This only causes drama and makes the team weak. Or lame in this situation. I am still ranting that the author completely ripped off the Percy Jackson series! The crew finds Medusa turning people into statues and selling them right in plain sight. At this point, I cannot even take the series seriously! Guess what! As I predicted in the last book- Ethan is a total copy of Luke and sold the band of lame Elementals out to the dark side! Thus causing pretty miss Kate to get turned into a living, but tormented, soul trapt inside of a statue forever. That ladies this is exactly why you do NOT go looking to fight mythological creatures like Medusa in heals and beauty pageant hair when you are clearly a tomboy! Why? Why would you ever get girly to go fight and be out of your element? Guess what? the book ends with another dramatic cliffhanger! Gasp!

This series just gets better and better, and even more interesting with each book. This one did not disappoint. The plot thickened, the adventures grew more crazy, the challenges became more difficult. Strength and determination is put to the test. The group of demi-gods and witches have to train harder and become more prepared for what lies ahead. The characters become more developed. Romance between the characters starts to bloom.
The Head of Medusa was fast-paced, easy to follow, and had me hanging on every word. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The story was very easy to follow and so much fun to read. You can easily pick up any book in this series and not feel lost, though I don't recommend it at all because you will be completely missing out.
Something happens at the end of the book that I was not expecting at all, and it had me reading faster and faster to see the outcome...only to be left with a cliff-hanger...Oh My Gosh! I was dying, but in a good way. I couldn't believe what happened. It will leave you waiting in suspense for book four. BEWARE! Michelle knows how to pull at readers heart-strings and leave us in total suspense.
I highly suggest binge-reading this series. You are going to want to have them all on hand at once. When one book finishes you are not going to want to wait to pick up the next one and read it.

There is no hiding my love for this series, I've been hooked since I decided to request the first one on netgalley on a whim, I've sense bought and pre ordered every one since. I can't get enough of this world each installment is just as fast paced as the last. You really get protective of these characters, this book really stabs you in the heart.
This is the third book in the series so I cant say much with out giving out the plot.
I loved this and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and now I cant wait for the fourth one, time can just move faster please.
This take place right after the events of book 2.
I was kinda hoping for a big Danielle moment, she is on the cover and we didn't really get one sadly
I will have to note I think I got a weird kindle copy randomly apostrophes were absent and huge chunks were underlined for no reason and weird spacing.

problems:
the beginning was so much repetition. if you hadn’t read the other two books it would be useful, but who starts a series on book 3 of 5? it was especially annoying because i just finished book 2; i really didn’t need the detailed recap.
the insta-love is worse than ever. like it’s less bothersome in book 1 because okay, it’s a crush, but really, you want to say i love you like a second after you start dating? that’s not a good look. also, there’s just no substance behind the relationship.
finally, this book relies far too heavily on recognizable references rather than actual description— the castle looked like emerald city from the wizard of oz, khione looks like elsa. try writing description! it feels like borrowed images instead of original content.

Author Michelle Madow has done it once again - written another compelling, gripping story that will leave you wanting more!
The Elementals are such badasses and 100% brave individuals. This book is more intense than the previous books, higher stakes and, yes, be prepared to shed a few tears.
Full of action, adventures, magic, Greek Gods, demigods, witches and monsters - surely you don't want to miss out in this wonderful world! This series has kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting more and more! Looking forward to the fourth book, The Portal to Kerberos.

The story is way too predictable. And also I absolutely hate the writing. "I did this, and then I did that", come on.. Stop listing up the events and start showing me the story as it progresses. And also, a majority of the sentences start with "I"... Seems way to self-centered for a girl who is always preaching about caring for others.

I started reading this book as soon as I had finished the second book and I couldn't wait to find out what was next for the characters! This book also sounded amazing and the title told me a lot about what the characters mission was going to be! I was right about what the mission was going to be, but the title is pretty self-explanatory lol! After reading this book, I can say that I freaking loved it! I enjoyed it just as much as the first two books and I was always desperate to read on and find out what was going to happen next! It only took me a few sittings to read too! The plot kept me interested and I read it at a really rapid pace too! I tried to take my time, but I failed lol! I also loved that there were some twist and turns in the plot, especially the big one at the end! That really changed the plot and I can see it having a bigger impact in the next book! There was also more romance between the main character and her love interest and a bit of action and suspense too, which I loved! The characters were again amazing and made this book even better! Nicole was again the main female character, and in this book she was again facing a very dangerous mission! I did feel for Nicole and her friends because they were risking their lives going into the unknown, but they didn't complain and they just went for it and didn't hold back! Nicole was again easy for me to connect with and she really surprised me and was very brave! I loved her a lot in this book! Blake was again the love interest of Nicole! In this book, Blake could be upfront with Nicole and be loving towards her in public and he didn't have to hide his feelings! They were such a sweet couple and I loved them together! Blake was protective of Nicole too! Again, the secondary characters were Danielle, Kate and Chris! These three characters all added so much to the plot of this book and they really fueled it and kept it going! I loved Danielle a lot in this book and she had changed a lot from the first book! It's fair to say that I definitely preferred her in this book lol! My heart went out to Kate in this book because something happened to her that devastated her friends! I loved Kate in this book though and she kicked some serious ass! Chris in this book was still funny and he always tried his best! This book was only written from Nicole's point of view, which I was expecting as the other books were only written from Nicole's point of view too! Just like the other books, I did love this book only being written from Nicole's point of view! I wouldn't mind the chance to go inside the other characters heads though, but then I can understand why this series is only written from Nicole's point of view! I'm not sure if the remaining books are going to be though! I assume they are only going to be written from Nicole's point of view, but the next book does have the opportunity to be written from maybe dual point of view! I also can't wait to read the next book in this series! I'm really happy that it's already released because it means that I can read it straightaway! I would be on pins and needles if I had to wait lol! I can't wait to continue Nicole's journey and see what's going to happen next! The cover for this book is also stunning! It suits the covers for the other books perfectly too! The model on the front is also Danielle because she controls the element of water and the model suits the character of her perfectly!

This book was comparatively better than the rest of the series. The ending is actually really good. The only person, however, I felt sad for is Chris. He is probably my favorite character of the series.

Daniel has more character development than the main FC. Predictable. I found it annoying that we literally get a whole synopsis of the other books in this one.

Review:
Protagonist: After the end of the previous installment in this series Nicole has never felt more free, she can date Blake without upsetting the dynamic of the Elementals group, they know about her ability to use black energy to kill, and now they all have a way to keep monsters from constantly coming back from Kerberos. Things couldn't get much better. That is, until she and her team find out that the deadliest Titan Typhon is rising and they don't have much time to gather the things necessary to defeat him before all is lost. Nicole does have development in this book, but it's more directly related to her romance, which I'll get to in a bit, and while I don't mind that she doesn't grow too much individually, at least not noticeably, she's still a character that has a good variety of strengths and weaknesses that are tested in this book, she still has some growing to do, but with any luck she's got plenty of time to do it.
Romance: There really isn't too much of a focus on the romance in this book. It's there sure, the first chapter is even Nicole and Blake's first official date, but as a sub-plot it's very small. They're there for each other, and for the most part the romantic sub-plot revolves around Nicole's ever growing feelings for Blake and her pondering over whether or not to tell him she loves him. Now, that's not a spoiler because it's in the first chapter. I really enjoyed that the author chose to really have her main character debate over whether or not saying that would be too soon. Too often these days YA love interests say "I love you" within days, sometimes even hours, of knowing each other, and while it's only been a couple of months with these two, that's where the whole "we've been through a lot with each other" thing actually feels realistic and not just some contrived way to get these two characters to say the "L" word to each other at a break neck pace. Overall, I really enjoyed the romance and after two books I'm actually rooting for these two all the way and actually really love them together.
World-Building: Even though our heroes now have weapons that can send monster to limbo for a year until the Portal to Kerberos is closed, that doesn't mean it will work on all monsters, especially not a Titan like Typhon. For that job, the only possible defeat is the Head of Medusa. However slicing off Medusa's head isn't going to be super easy, This adventure takes our heroes to new places and has them fight for their lives nearly every step of the way. One of the things I've really come to enjoy about this series is how tightly all these installments fit together. I mean, most series have great continuity and will bring back characters, or dole out the consequences of a past book well, but for some reason, that really stuck out to me in this book. Everything works so well together and this author does a fantastic job of leaving noticeable threads that you just know will be picked up later.
Predictability: Here's something weird. I honestly don't know how to describe what I was and was not able to predict. Let me try to explain. I would be able to predict one or two aspects of what was to come, but the specifics would be wrong, or the timing would be off. There are some pretty big twists in here and the author does a good job of mixing foreshadowing with misdirection. Sometimes I would think I predicted something big, only to be wrong, and vice versa. Sometimes I thought I'd have the perfect idea of what's going to happen, only for the details to all get switched around and for it to turn out much more hopeless than I planned.
Ending: I thought I had more time. That's really all I can think to say, at least the only thing spoiler free I could think to say after finishing this book. As things just hit a high point of tension, the highest for the entire book to be honest. I expected things to wind down, for there to be a cooldown period of some sort. Nope it ends, it ends with literally one of the most infuriating cliffhangers I've ever read. Michelle Madow, you are evil and I'm okay with that, and I am not okay with that. There is a final confrontation I guess, but that's a bit too far from the end, and not nearly final enough to be the final climax. The final climax was intense and crazy and if I wasn't in a hurry to read the first two chapters of the next book (which are at the end of this book) I could probably sit here and rant about it all day!
