Hell Bent #2

My Demon Hunter

Rate this book
The hunter shall become the hunted…

Enslaved to an evil demon queen, Mishetsumephtai has only ever served one purpose. He is the Hunter, the one who drags the guilty back to Hell.

But tasting freedom has changed him, and for the first time, Mist questions his duty. The human female he meets, who smiles at him with no idea what a monster he is, draws him in, and he’ll do anything to possess her.

But his reprieve was always temporary, and before long, his cruel mistress demands he return to Hell. If he disobeys, he will pay the price with pain or even death. Yet he can’t relinquish the woman whose scent calls to him like nothing he’s hunted before.

…And the timid shall become the fierce.

Since the death of her parents, Lily Donovan has tried to forget what she is. But denial is not an option when everything she’s been running from turns up on her doorstep. Chaos comes in the form of a man with unusual tattoos and beguiling amber eyes…

A man who may not be a man at all.

Suddenly, Lily’s weaknesses become her greatest strengths, and she must learn to embrace them if she’s to save herself and her Hunter.

Even if she shouldn’t trust him. Even if he’s supposed to be her enemy.

My Demon Hunter is a sizzling-hot paranormal romance about loving the darkest parts of ourselves. It features a curvy heroine and a demon hero with non-human attributes, including a dramatic size difference and a very talented tail. There’s blood, sex, violence, and, as always, a lot of profanity. You’ve been warned.

My Demon Hunter by Aurora Ascher is a lush paranormal contemporary romance with a dark edge, part of the emotionally rich and spice-kissed Hell Bent series. It follows Lily—a soft-spoken witch trying to forget the power that runs in her blood—and Mist, Hell’s infamous Hunter, who’s snuck away to Earth in search of something he can’t quite name. Their connection ignites fast… but with the trip cut short and enemies closing in, the Hunter becomes the hunted. Will Lily’s magic awaken in time, or will the past consume them both? 💀✨🌒

Please note: While this could technically be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the series in order to avoid spoilers and get the full emotional payoff! 📚

───♡─────────────

♡ What I loved most:
• I love that this series keeps giving us chapter titles—they’re charming and fun and I miss seeing them in other books 📖
• The characterizations are vivid—it’s so easy to picture these people in my head like they’re standing in front of me 🖼
• The multiple POVs really enrich the story—I love seeing the layers behind the scenes 🎭
• The humor still hits! Even with darker themes, there’s a levity woven through that makes it feel balanced
• The spice was hot and well-balanced—it never overpowered the plot, which is just how I like it 🔥
• I loved how the story still connects back to the previous book—we get to see the aftermath of the first couple’s HEA and some cute hints of the next ones to come!🫂
• I adore that these books explore how the world isn’t black and white—that there’s space for change, for softness, even in the darkest of places 🖤
• The way the plot deepened as the story progressed was so satisfying—it pulled me in more and more 🌗
“He stilled. ‘You trust me?’
‘Mhm.’
‘But...’ He looked almost afraid. ‘What if I'm not worthy?’
‘You are worthy. Otherwise I wouldn't trust you.’
He frowned as if trying to wrap his head around the concept. Finally, his features settled into a look of fierce determination. ‘I will be. I'll make sure of it.’”

• The special edition? Stunning as always—I can’t wait to collect them all! 🎀

✘ What didn’t work for me:
• While this book definitely brought new things to the table, the first half still felt a little too similar to book one at times. It’s not a copy at all, just… familiar in ways that didn’t surprise me as much—like déjà vu 🔁
• I couldn’t help but laugh at the sheer amount of screaming during spice scenes—it got a little repetitive 😅

❀ Overall:
My Demon Hunter carried the same chaotic, heartfelt, and fiery energy I loved in My Funny Demon Valentine, but took us into slightly darker territory. It didn’t wow me quite as much, just because it echoed a few too many beats from book one—but it was still a fast-paced, romantic, and super fun read. I’m completely hooked on this world and already counting the days until the next one arrives! 🔥📚✨

Demons Need Love Too

📖 Bookish Thoughts
I liked this one wayyyy more than the first in the series! My Demon Hunter was action packed for most of the book, and I loved every bit of it. We also got more worldbuilding this time. Lily and Mist were a great match, and their chemistry was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

That said, there were a few things I didn’t love:

1. The cigarette smoking… and trying to make it sexy? Major ick.

2. Mist made some reckless choices that had me yelling, do you have a death wish?!

3. Iris, Lily’s sister, was seriously annoying.

But overall? I still read it in one sitting and had a great time. Solid 4.25 stars from me!

There is something about reading a light urban fantasy that just makes my day! Don't get me wrong- I love me some world building fantasy. Urban fantasy is nice though because it really isn't as much of an investment in time. This fit this bill and added bonus had a lot of mythology thrown in there too. I really enjoyed this one! It was funny and perfectly paced. It was kind of an instant love or maybe more of an instant recognition of mates. Lily was great! She had been fighting herself and her history as a witch for forever. But after Mist dropped into her life, she can't hide from it anymore. Mist was such a fish out of water. He was a literal demon from Hell who has found himself on Earth trying to understand the language and interactions. These two were HOT together! Their meet cute was a recognition more than anything. They didn't want to walk away from each other, but they did and then fate kept bringing them together again. Lily couldn't wrap her head around these feelings she was having for a stranger. Mist was fighting his feelings because he wasn't going to be on Earth for very long. I loved how Lily stood up for Mist and proved to him that he is worthy of a better life including someone to love!

Lily has been living under the radar of her kind for a while. She refuses to acknowledge her heritage. The past is just too painful with everything that happened with her parents. She also feels like this is creating some strain with her sister, but that is for another day. Today she is having a hard time not acknowledging the giant of a man in the convenience store. The man who offers to walk her home and has a strange way of communication. The man she finds herself drawn to. The man who she finds out is a demon from Hell on a mission and timeline to have to go back. Now she doesn't know what to trust. Her gut says he is safe, but her brain is questioning everything that she knows. Why does she feel this instant connection with a perfect stranger? Why is her body lighting up at night like a glow stick? Why does she want to hide from her heritage so much? She is done covering up things in her life. She is going to embrace this thing between them because she is going to trust herself. And what she experiences with him is amazing! She gets to see him in his true form where he is even more beautiful. She realizes quickly that Mist doesn't think there is any other option than to go back to Hell to his "life." But he didn't have Lily in his corner like he does now. She decides that she will stop at nothing to get him out of this situation he is in. Including going to Hell and fighting a princess or bargaining with other demons to keep him safe. Because she recognizes him now for what he is...her mate.

Mist has been in prison for what feels like an eternity. He has known nothing but being the slave to his master who happens to be the Queen of Hell. He goes on missions for her and finds people she can punish for whatever misdeed she determines at the time. He finds himself lost and over this thing that he calls life. So when she sends him to Earth to find a group of demons she wants back, he finds himself taking a bit of a hiatus. He likes these guys. He doesn't want to go back. And then he meets HER. His mate even though he doesn't recognize it right away. She is a beautiful witch. Beyond anything he could imagine, but he is wearing his human form. He finds himself running into her more than he thought he would. He finds that fate seems to be intervening with how often they see each other. He is enchanted by her. And now she knows what he is- a demon and though she seems scared at first she understands. She even wants to HELP him with his dilemma. He doesn't tell her but there is no helping his situation. So he decides to make the most of the time he has. He has given up all hope and knows what lays ahead of him. But then he is stunned to find Lily in Hell trying to save him. And save him she does. He realizes that love does trump all things because now he can experience that with her.

The way that Aurora wove Lily and Mist's story was perfect! There was a dash of suspense, sacrifice, the realization that you are worthy, and then of course the connection and found family, romance and SPICE. I also liked the humor- the things that Mist didn't understand as a demon in the human world. I am really looking forward to continuing this series, and actually plan on going back to read book 1 too. I listened to this too and did enjoy the narrator a lot! I recommend this one if you are looking for an easy fun read with demons, witches and plans for more.

These books are so cute and cozy. I’ve been reading them between other books as a nice break and a chance to smile and swoon a little. They aren’t life changing, but that’s the beauty of it. Sometimes you just need an easy book for the soul.

I do think I liked the first book better. Mist annoyed me at times with his stupid choices. Lily was cute, but felt like she said she was becoming more confident but didn’t prove it? Especially with how things ended up with Paimon.

Iris and Meph though!? I’m sensing some GOOD tension in the next book. Belial might be my fav though, the big secret cinnamon roll. I NEEED his book.

4.75 - 5 stars!

My Demon Hunter is Mist and Lily's story. Mist is a hunter and has been tracking the rogue demon brothers but the more time he is surrounded by their lives the more he craves what they have. Mist wants freedom and companionship and their friendship is the key to hopefully a happier future. When he is accepted into the fold, Mist meets Lily and his whole world changes. The chains that keep him enslaved are starting to strangle him and Lily is far more powerful and important than she knows. Will Belial, Ash, Raum, Meph and Lily be able to help Mist? Will Lily and Mist be able to have a life together or will Hell and his master call him back leaving Lily alone?

Mist was such a magnetic character. I loved his literal approach to everything and his animalistic "you're mine...I need your scent" was so hot. There's something incredibly satisfying and delicious about an alpha male that both worships and devours his female. Mist was a strong male even though he was enslaved and I adored that there was never any hesitation that Lily was meant to be his even if some of his actions were contrary to that sentiment.

Lily was a unique character and while not my favorite heroine of the series so far she held her own and didn't get lost in the background of their growing demon/supernatural family. I think what I loved most about her was her realistic reactions to everything happening around her. She had a quiet intensity and an empathetic and caring heart that you could just feel. Her growth as a character was inspiring.

The relationship between Mist and Lily was lovely and built on a solid foundation of lust, trust and respect. Both had insecurities but their natural need to communicate those fears to each other built them up rather than tore them down. And their steamy encounters...sweet baby jesus. One word...TAIL! Who knew right?

The only part I struggled with in this story was Lily's insecurities about her appearance. But my issues with that are purely personal. I just don't particularly like reading about women who are self deprecating more than a few times. It just gets repetitive and exasperating for me. That being said, despite my brief annoyance with Lily, I do applaud the way Ascher wove self confidence, determination and pride into Lily's character through the power of love and acceptance from a demon who also has issues seeing his own self worth. It just worked here!

This was such a fresh storyline with twists and turns and action that kept me glued to the pages. I am so very excited to see what direction this story and its characters go. I've got theories! I loved getting other POVs and I appreciated the quick peek into their minds. This story in many ways felt like a chess board with so many moving pieces that sets the stage for a grand finale of epic proportions. And I am here for it.

I do want to go ahead and say that I'm claiming Belial. That demon has me salivating.

Call me crazy but is it weird that I want Murmur's story? Like anti-hero brought to his knees by his woman. Lol.

ANYWAY, I think this is a solid installment in this series and I can't wait to read more! If you haven't started this series I seriously don't know what you're waiting for.

I've been eagerly awaiting this book and rightly so-- Mist is my dream demon boyfriend!
My Demon Hunter has spice, heart, lovable characters, and an amazing storyline.

Aurora's writing is fantastic and she drew me in immediately. Lilly is my type of girl- I loved how relatable she is, how accepting she is of Mist, and how she fights for what she wants with him. To be fair, I would also go to hell for a demon like Mist.
Mist is adorable. He doesn't know what he's doing with humans, but damn does he try. He wants what he's seen other demons find-- enough that he's willing to turn away from the life he's lived for thousands of years.

Everything about this book did it for me, and now I want more! I love our group of demon boys and am excited for all of their stories. I'm wrapped up in this whole world, with the way Aurora tells a story, and MIST'S TAIL.

Aurora, you did it again! I devoured this book and loved every single second of it.

A tortured softie that needs a little love

I already knew I was going to love Mist because of book one and I was right.
Mist has been bound as a hunter for millennia and decides to go rogue to find a human girlfriend/pet of his own. Lily and Mist meet by chance at a corner store and adorable awkwardness ensues. Lily has insecurities up the wazoo and Mist has almost never interacted with humans and doesn’t understand emotions.
I’m a fan of curvy women embracing themselves and of tortured anti heroes getting the girl, so this was a win win for me.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: slavery, torture, violence/gore

I really liked this book. I probably would have liked it more if I wasn’t in a reading slump but who knows. I love the two main characters and how the fmc was plus sized. I love how she wrote Mist he reminded me of night crawler in x-men honestly and I loved it. It had a great plot and characters.

I love this Hell Bent series! This author’s vision just amazes me! This book gave me spice, romance, demons, and humor! I listened to the audio version of it and the narrator did a great job! Usually I don’t read books that have a lot of characters in them, but this entire series is an exception to the rule. I actually loved this book in the series better! All of the characters are likable, especially Mist and Lily! I love how Lily’s confidence grows throughout the book. It has uniqueness, vivid descriptions and excitement throughout the entire book! I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars!

Review: 4th reread and I feel like a have a much deeper appreciation for the story now after reading the following 3 books multiple times as well. Mist is so determined to find connection, even though he has no idea how to achieve that. I love that Lily fit him perfectly. She is unsure of herself, but her empathy is her greatest strength. The cast of characters throughout this whole series hold my heart dearly. They are so funny, and I want to strangle them sometimes. But the love and devotion to family is so strong, even if they'd rather cut out their own tongue than admit it.

Quotes:
“It’s good to have things you enjoy. Human lives are short. It’s better to leave your mark on the world by being full of contentment than full of longing.”

Mist didn’t have a lot of things that belonged to him, so when he acquired something, he became extremely possessive of it.

So what if he was a little feral. The whole sniffing and biting thing was really doing it for her.

No man had ever looked at her like that—half with wonder, half with a near-frightening possessive intensity.

Review:

Mist is such a sweet pup

I really enjoyed the second installment to this series. Mist is such a sweetie -while also being a ruthless demon hunter- who just wants to have some freedom and maybe companionship of his own. He is very new to human mannerisms, emotions and social cues. He basically sniffs the heroine in the first meeting. Lily is a big girl with low self-esteem and family baggage, who also happens to be a crazy powerful witch. They worked together, but I have my reservations on this insta-love, partially due to Mist seeming so childlike emotionally for a good portion of the book. But overall, it was a great story, the side characters got to shine and I am so ready for the next book in the series.

This author certainly know how to write a swoon worthy hero.
I adored Mist! He was one of a kind hero. Feral but a softie, alpha yet sensitive and with somewhat a childlike innocence. Infact I find it in all these demons and their mannerisms. This bunch stole my heart. Loved how they are always there for each other even though loyalty, friendship and love are antithesis of what a demon is supposed to be.

And shy, sweet, insecure, plus size heroine Lily… I loved how she blossomed in the story. At the end she found herself and saved the day.
The story just flowed and I was hooked from the first instance.
Will continue this series as I want each and everyone of them to find happiness (and be a part of it). They totally deserve it.

And the love scene… dear god, they were HOT 🥵!

Safe, entertaining and addictive read.

I was so excited to receive the ARC of 'My Demon Hunter' book #2 in the Hell Bent Series, out on February 1, 2022. Aurora Ascher has, once again, brought us her version of "misunderstood monsters, redeemable anti-heroes and epic happily-ever-afters" that makes us continue to love this found-family of Hell Bent misfits.

We jump back into this intriguing world, a short time following 'My Funny Demon Valentine' , with Mist (aka Mishetsumephtai/The Hunter) and our beloved Eva (book #1), his "friend that is a girl, a girl friend, but not a girlfriend". Their friendship is so adorable, especially our feral sweetheart, Mist. Feral (no other word really describes him) and raw he may be, but everyone needs a Mist.

Mist's story is sad, his animalistic and feral awkwardness so sweet, that he absolutely broke and stole my heart in equal measure. The memory of Eli (Eligos) and Natalie (from 'My Demon Romance' ) weighs on and drives him to want more. Ancient, but really "clueless about humans", he is on a quest to learn and live outside of Hell.

When Mist and Lily Donovan meet-cute, neither will be the same. Lily is introverted and frequently down on herself due to her weight and life choices, but Mist sees her as "intoxicating" and he has trouble curbing his instincts. Lol Thankfully, "Eva's 'How to Human' lessons from were fresh in his mind", as even he knew it "would be considered inappropriate".

I don't want to spoil the story, so I will just say that I loved their growth, honesty, acceptance and relationships. The book ends on a cliffhanger, but has a HFN for the group. I absolutely recommend reading the free slice-of-life short story, 'Mistified' , link available at the end of the book.

I look forward to reading the next book, 'Demon with Benefits' , which is to be Meph's (Mephistopheles) story. I love this group and we have so much unanswered from the series thus far and many more questions added... I need more.

I would like to thank Aurora Ascher for reaching out and sending me an ARC of 'My Demon Hunter' in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this second book even more than the first. While each of these books is a standalone, you do get more from reading the series in order I think. Mist (H) is dodging a return to Hell and learning more about the human world, as well as hoping to connect with a human woman. He meets Lily (h) at a convenience store and that's it, she's the only one he wants. Their romance isn't the simplest since Mist is still technically a slave and Lily is initially terrified of demons, but there is a great deal of sweetness, humor, feral possessiveness, swoon, and steam. Told in third person narrative, multi-POV (including villains). No ow/om drama, neither are virgins - no history given for him that I can recall, bc not needed.

Mist and Lily have a wonderfully developed story that also includes the other demons who've gone rogue and added another layer to the overall plot with the inclusion of witches into the group. We get some great scenes and interactions of him not knowing how the human world works or what to say to people. Lily does have some negative self-image and self-talk concerns, but I didn't find this overwhelming. Mist is very "mine" with her and the way he speaks to/about Lily is certainly a confidence-booster. As a note for the steamy scenes - there's size difference at play and steaminess that happens in demon form, including his tail.

There's some action of the fighting kind too with gory scenes included. I didn't cry with this book, but it does have some well-built emotional moments. The overarching plot continues with the group dealing with challenges of avoiding Hell and making new lives in the human world. Like with book 1, lots of likable and interesting side characters play important roles who'll get their own books. Lily's twin sister and Meph are the next book and they spark off each other fiercely in this one. No epilogue for the main characters since the overall plot is ongoing and these characters will continue to show up in later books, but even with a HFN, these two are living there HEA clearly. I'm definitely continuing this series.

This is Mist, aka Mishetumephtai, and Lily’s story. WOW. Aurora Ascher does it again! Somehow I loved it more than the first one. Mist was so broken and yearning for human connection I, much like Lily, softened to him immediately. He was just such a magnetic character. Mist is our demon hunter infamous for his loyalty to his mistress, until his mission is to take down some Hell’s most powerful rogue demons Ashmodeus, Belial, Raum, and Mephistopheles. He finds himself stunned by Ash’s quaint life and comfortability with his mere human-like lover Evangeline.
He finds himself then yearning for that companionship and friendship that the so-called demons settled down to find. He cuts a deal leading him to find his own lair, I mean home and finally a family. By happenstance he finds Lily at a local convenience store, buys her ice cream because she should not deny herself such things especially when it comes to pleasure.. just so happens she’s a rare blood-born witch twin to Iris a powerful and currently practicing witch.
Mist is so animalistic, growly, and possessive in nature I loved it. The way he just wanted to bite her a little bit. (Can we talk about when she complemented his teeth and claws and my man BLUSHED?)
Demons stole Lily’s parents,
burned her coven to get to her and her sister.
They’ve been running ever since.
However, another demon has stolen her heart and she doesn’t want revenge this time.
No she wants him to stay.

The found family just went x10 on this and I LOVED it. I love the addition of Iris and Meph’s banter amongst the love of Eva and Ash, we also have Raum, and poor Belial being the annoyed Dad that just wants to cook. However once a king always a king, he may have a temper but if he loves you he loves you and you’re apart of the family now. Brothers forever. 💙💫

Can’t wait for Iris and Meph’s story in Demon With Benefits!!! Thank you NetGalley! 🫶🏼

I ADORE MIST!! I love that we get this primal, possessive, instinct driven demon. He’s more demon than the rest of them and I absolutely loved it! His growly “mine” and “want to chase and pin” 👏🏼🔥🔥 And underneath all of that he’s broken, lonely, and so loving.

This is a pretty fast burn and I’m glad that Lily doesn’t fight it and leans into her gut feelings. Shes smart & lovely but also quirky. I love that she’s a plus size FMC. I thought the author did a great job describing her body and bringing positivity to her being a curvy woman. I LOVED her interactions with Mist, how he was basically drooling over her curves & soft parts.

Of course the found family aspect is a fave! This is def the most untraditional family ever but somehow they work 🤣 Belials temper seriously cracks me up.

I loved the witchy vibes of this as well.

Tropes to look for:

💗Curvy plus size FMC
💗Demon in disguise
💗Found Family
💗Bite claiming
💗Witch x Demon
💗He Can’t Fit…

Mist has always been known as the Hunter of Hell, forced to follow the orders of his master.
When he is ordered to hunt down the four brothers and drag them back to Hell, he is given the opportunity to break the rules and find companionship with a human female. He never thought he would find a companion in the ice cream section, but when Mist meets Lily, Mist is determined to have her. Mist knows his freedom would always be temporary, already feeling the pull back to hell but Lily who is hiding power of her own is not letting Mist go without a fight. Can the four brothers and Lily help Mist break his chains before it is too late?

I was excited to delve back into this world after reading My Funny Demon Valentine. My Demon Hunter continued to build on our knowledge of Hell and the background of the four demons that are determined to stay on Earth. Although many of the main characters are back in this book, the main focus is on Mist and Lily. I loved these two characters. Their chemistry was perfect and definitely made for some spicy scenes. The ending left on a cliffhanger and makes me wonder what is next for our group of misfit characters.

Thank you to NetGalley and RBMedia for the opportunity to review My Demon Hunter. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

LOVED!! This was yet another amazingly written story in this series!

The biting…*heart eyes*
The sniffing…I’m here for it.
The growls…mhmm, yes please.
The “don’t run because I will catch you”? HeII. Yes…bring on the chase, Mr. Sexy Demon.

I knew going into this one it was going to be good. Why? Because after reading and experiencing book one, I knew this would be full of heart and emotion and also fun and sexy. I love love love how in love with these demons I am.

I’m so enamored with Mist. The love he has for Lily makes me swoon HARD. It makes me smile. Not gonna lie, makes me a little bit envious. Where can I get me one of these sexy AF, caring and protective demons who will do anything for me???

This highly entertaining and well-written story was love and passion and possessiveness and humor and heart all wrapped up in a delightfully delicious demon package.

The banter between the demons is everything. I lived for those scenes when they were all together. They are all so easy to love and I’m not ashamed to say I fell for all of them immediately in the first book.

I never thought I’d be describing a demon romance as charming and sweet and sometimes adorable… but IT SO WAS!

I couldn’t love this one any more if I tried. I highly recommend it. After finishing this one, I immediately wanted to gobble up the rest in the series.

3.5 This is the second book in the Hellbent series and continues where book one left off. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the books in order. I also suggest reading the free prequel first, since Mist is in all three.

It’s is an enslaved demon whose only freedom is going out and hunting rogue demons, but now now he’s the one who wants to go rogue. The problem is that his brands of servitude will kill him if he doesn’t return to his mistress in hell. He decides he’s going to give a small taste of freedom before returning. But that taste is more than he ever dreamed of and now he’s willing to do anything to stay with the woman who captured his heart.

This was a fast, light, enjoyable read. If you like paranormal romance it’s worth checking out.

4.5⭐️

Mist owns me. That’s it, that’s the review. This little chaos demon stomped his way straight into my heart, set up camp, and and there he shall remain, rent free. He carried this whole damn book on his cute, feral ginormous shoulders and I adored every second.

And yes, I loved this one more than book one. Maybe it’s the snarky, self-deprecating witchy FMC (my kind of feral queen) or maybe it’s because Mist is just that stinking adorable while also being an absolute menace. 🥹😂 Either way, I was hooked.

This installment cranked up the spice, the laughs, and the monster-romance goodness. If you like your romcoms with claws, fangs, and a side of chaos magic, this one is basically an 8 course meal. 👏

And can we talk about Meph? Because I’ve been low-key obsessed since book one, and now that I know he and Iris are next? I’m stomping my little feeties! The scene where Jacqui breaks free to save him had me watery eyed while also fanning myself. It’s fine, I’m fine. 🙄

I’m officially addicted to this demon-infested universe, and I’m not leaving any time soon. Bring on the chaos. Bring on the spice. Bring on the next book.

My Demon Hunter by Aurora Ascher

I think Lily and Mist might be my favorite couple so far! Mist is so adorably innocent for a demon it’s honestly the cutest thing. This series is absolutely hilarious, and I love a good smutty romance comedy. Definitely a fun and spicy read!

Aurora has done it again! Another fabulous demon romance in the bag and it's the perfect balance of steam, fluff, drama, and just all the good things.

Mist, that *big* (insert lewd winky faces here - if you know, you know) gray dork is absolutely PRECIOUS. The whole fish out of water thing at the beginning of the book was so endearing and he's just so sincere when it comes to Lily, it makes my heart ache. And if that weren't reason enough to love the demon, dude knows how to use his tail... IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN (insert more lewd winky faces here)

But all of my inappropriate winking and jokes aside - I really did enjoy his character arc throughout this story. He's the one we've been with the longest since the beginning of the Hell Bent saga with "My Demon Romance" and it's been very satisfying to watch this famed hunter evolve, but most of all - to fall in love, to have it not only change him, but in many respects, save him.

Lily - our heroine of the hour - is an absolute empathetic sweetheart and kindred spirit. Loved the plus sized rep we got with her, but I also loved watching her growth over the course of the story even more. She goes from this introverted, shy, socially awkward, insecure thing to an absolutely confident badass. There will always be something so satisfying about watching a female character bloom and Lily blossoming throughout this book hit all the spots. Loved it.

Her twin sister, Iris, is a bit of an ass by comparison, but I really enjoyed her clash and seemingly unwanted chemistry with Meph. Definitely need more of those two ;) I sense some delicious rivals-to-lovers in the future.

I think I may also be developing a thing for Belial after this book. Honestly, I keep waffling back and forth between him and Meph. Lord save me! lol Speaking of our favorite demon bros - I was living for their camaraderie once again. Their interactions are some of my absolute favorites and the way the hellish quartet basically adopt Mist... love me that found-family goodness.

My only complaint (and it's honestly not even a real complaint) was the mini cliffhanger at the end during the epilogue. I NEED MORE, AURORA! Gimme. ;)

There's also a link to a bonus novella/slice-of-life called "Mistified" that gives us some closure between Eligos & Natalie with Mist (and Lily in tow). I can't say for certain that I know what all this is setting up, but I have my suspicions, and if I am correct... I approve.

In summary: I thoroughly enjoyed this latest entry in the Hell Bent series and I can't wait for more!

⭐ 4.5 Stars – My Demon Hunter by Aurora Ascher

🎧 Audiobook Review | Hell Bent #2

I read My Funny Demon Valentine earlier this year (February maybe? Time is fake) and honestly, I remembered the vibes more than the plot—until this book started slapping me with flashbacks.

To quickly recap: in Book 1, four demon brothers went rogue and one fell for a half-angel girl (Eva, you sweet chaotic nephilim). Mist—our quiet, tortured demon hunter—cut a secret deal with the others to cover Eva’s existence in exchange for a little peace and quiet. Yeah, that backfired beautifully.

Now in My Demon Hunter, it's Mist’s turn to find love and, baby, it’s deliciously awkward.

Mist (aka Mishetsumephtai), the demon hunter bound to the Queen of Hell, is starting to glitch emotionally after centuries of blind obedience. He meets Lily, a plus-size witch with a painful past and power she doesn’t fully understand, and everything shifts.

Their awkward meet-cute at an ice-cream aisle is the beginning of something intense, fated, and chaotic. Between snarky twins, demonic politics, betrayal, and a full-on descent into Hell, these two go through it—and come out changed, branded, and bound in every sense of the word.

Mist is so cute it’s stupid. The man is a literal killing machine who doesn’t know how to people. His “How to Human” moments?? Adorable chaos.

“Did I do the wrong thing again?” Mist asks after blurting out something wildly inappropriate at the grocery store. 10/10 would still let him ruin my life.

I was irrationally mad when Lily asked for his number and he didn’t get it—so Eva sends him back out like "go get a new human." Excuse you??

Then he shows up at Lily’s place because he left his number in her mailbox (like an unhinged demon boyfriend flyer). She invites him over for dinner—cute. Until her sister shows up like a judgmental, overprotective bouncer, sets up a ward to trap Mist, and straight-up taunts him. Girl, no.

The heartbreak when Mist thought Lily betrayed him?? Crushed me. And then the rescue mission? Absolute chaos. Lily tapped into her power, dragged her sister through a gate to literal Hell, and fought to bring him back. Yeah, she earned that demon D.

By the time Lily binds the brands to herself to set him free... I was melting.

✅️What I Loved✅️
✔ Mist’s entire existence. The way this demon hunter is rough, primal, violent—and yet completely clueless about how to flirt? Gold.
✔ Plus-size MC with deep emotional wounds, a strained sister dynamic, and a hidden well of power? Yes, ma’am. Her growth was so satisfying—especially when she stepped into literal hell for the man she loved. Summoning him to save his life? Branded by his power? Girl was down BAD and I respected it.
✔ The demon brothers are chaotic, ridiculous, loyal, and lowkey wholesome. Even though some of them are certified sluts, the brotherhood hit deep.
✔ The worldbuilding was tight. Wards, brands, ancient prophecies, hellgates—it all worked.
✔ Belial’s redemption arc actually hit (shocking, I know).
✔ The spice was chef’s kiss but still emotional. Not just banging—there was actual connection.

❌️What Had Me Side-Eyeing❌️
✘ Iris. Still annoying. She shows up, wrecks everything, acts like she's the main character. No thanks.
✘ Mephistopheles… look, I’m bracing myself for the next book. That smug manwhore gives me hives.
✘ Wish Mist had gotten more POV time during the Hell scenes. I wanted his torment, his suffering, his inner conflict. Feed me pain, Aurora.
✘ Belial… I hated him in the first book. He gets some redemption here, but I still side-eye him like he’s hiding a dagger behind his back. Don’t trust it.
✘ Some scenes felt a bit rushed, especially during the climax. I needed a few more pages of the gore and fire.

Final Verdict:
This book was better than Book 1. Funnier, darker, steamier, and way more emotionally satisfying. This one took everything I loved about book one and made it darker, hotter, and more emotionally resonant. Mist is the kind of monster I crave—violent, broken, worshipful. And Lily? A curvy, underestimated witch who walks into Hell for love.

That said… I’m keeping holy water and a stress ball handy for Iris and Meph. If I make it through their book without setting something on fire, it'll be a miracle.

"I would walk through Hell for you.”
No, really. Lily did. And I loved every second of it.

My Demon Hunter is book two in the Hell Bent series, following the absolutely hilarious and heart-melting My Funny Demon Valentine.

When I saw this ALC available on NetGalley, I had to request it! That said, I’ll admit—I was initially a little disappointed to see that this book focused on Mist. I was expecting Raum, Meph, or Bel’s stories next. But after finishing it? I completely understand and support the author’s choice.

While each book in this romantasy series follows a different couple, I wouldn’t call them true standalones. The overarching plotline threads all the books together, and My Demon Hunter plays a crucial role in expanding the worldbuilding. Through Mist’s story, we get a much clearer picture of how Hell is structured and the forces at play. Plus, Lily and Iris? Absolutely essential additions to the series!

💘 Now, let’s talk romance. Mist was the sweetest, most clueless, and unintentionally hilarious demon. His first interactions with Lily had me cackling—he was just too much in the best way possible. And Lily? Shy yet fierce, layered, and deeply lovable. Their chemistry was chef’s kiss 💋🔥

Now all I need is a book about Meph and Iris, and my life will be complete!! ✨

I’m obsessed with this series—thank you SO much to NetGalley for the ALC! I originally applied because I absolutely adored My Funny Demon Valentine, and the audiobook made the whole experience even more immersive. So the second I saw this was available, I had to jump on it!

Mist and Lily’s story was everything—so sweet, so funny, and it hit just right.

I also love the lore behind the demons and their origin stories. Aurora is incredible at crafting fantasy romances that are short, sweet, and still packed with plot and character development.

Honestly, it’s rare to find an author who balances it all this well. I’ve already pre-ordered the rest of the series and can’t wait to devour every single one! Thanks so much again, I’m so proud to know you, Aurora! 💖🫶✨

We use the expression “i will go to hell and back for you” to prove our love but our girl Lily literally went to hell and back for her man demon. Not your level hunnie😍😍

I thought i would love book 1 more than this but after meeting Mist with his childlike innocence and and martyr behavior i knew who my favorite was. Lily and Mist were just so sumptuous together🤧 and protective of each other. Loved it loved it loved it!!!

Again went to hell and back for her man people. Sheesh

What I liked:
😈Laughed out loud so many times. Great comedy and banter as Mist navigated the human world.
😈Lily! She was such a great character and so relatable. She’s a little clueless but also loves fiercely.
😈The romance between Mist and Lily. Great banter and chemistry, they evolved and learned so much together and will go to great lengths for each other and their families.

Final thoughts: This book was a pure joy to read! Funny, spicy, romantic. And you do not need to read book 1 before reading this one.
