We pick up the story 4 months ago where it's revealed that Gianni was placed under witness protection program after he sold out his father to the Feds. He was first charged with the murder of his former girlfriend who died in a fire.
Fast forward to the current time and it's revealed his father has been let go and no charges were held as all the evidence was stolen and he is free to roam the streets again.
He is able to get to Rebecca on time before the fire kills her and saves her. Once she is safe in the hospital, she reveals that she knows his real identity and she reveals that the people behind her predicament is the same as the ones who killed her mother. They are all connected.
Sadly, things are too fucked up for Gianni to see the traitor around him being Henry who not only turns out to be an agent but a dirty one too who has been working for his father for a while and is the reason he got out of prison.
His father kidnaps Rebecca and keeps her as a pawn in his sick and twisted game. Gianni is forced to pretend to be willing to do anything to repent for being a rat and his father already is stepping ahead in the game. Anton, who is second in command reveals to Gianni that he not only is going to put all the blame for everything dirty deed he has done on Gianni to the Authority, who is a group of all the founding families. They will 100% put him to his death.
Anton is telling him all this information because he is already working against his father to bring him down and they come up with a plan to screw him before Gianni gets killed for the lies.
He asks Becca to trust him throughout the book while he works in the back to bring his father down without bringing anymore pain to Becca but sadly Henry attempts to sexually assault her but is stopped. And Gianni gives him the death he deserves but gets the information he needs from him too.
There is so much going on in this book and honestly it is best to read it to understand every detail and event.
Once Gianni reveals the truth to the Authority and they agree to get rid of his father, his death brings peace within him but there is another issue now, Becca knows too much as an outsider for the Cosa Nostra and Gianni makes it a mission to protect her by marrying her. She agrees but on one condition that they find who physically murdered her mother and that she would be one to kill him.
I am assuming book 3 will be the hunt for the ones who worked with his dad to kill her mother and their ''arranged'' marriage but is it arranged if they love each other? lol

I have waited for this book and it did not disappoint. I loved it so much from the first chapter. I 10/10 recommend reading this series.

Update 8/21/22: 3.50 Apparently there is a health issue with this author and under those circumstances do not blame Ms. Kenborn personally, but do blame Amazon. Why release one book under those circumstances if the author is having health issues? She is a good author but initially their was no explanation by Amazon as to why it wasn't available after the release of the first book in the duet.
I read the first book in the series and was done and went to look for book two only to find "not available at this time". I wish Ms. Kenborn a speedy recover and hopefully at some point will see the second book in the duet hit this site. Shame on Amazon for not alerting readers when reading book one of this duet that the second book in the series release date is in question due to a medical issue with the author.

Tortured Hearts is the second book of the Marchesi trilogy and you can't read it if you haven't read book 1 Torched Spades first, because this book picks right after that one left off.
We're back in the lives of Johnny and Becca and finally we discover what happens after that cliffhanger from book 1. I'm really glad Cora is back! And she delivered another book packed with action, suspense and of course, love.
Things escalate super quickly after the cliffhanger of book 1 unravels. Becca and Johnny can't really take a break because of the circumstances. They are forced to face their fears and danger head on and they can't lose a minute because lives hang in the balance and in this book some of the people who don't want to leave them alone finally show their faces.
Finally, we also find out more about Johnny and Becca's past and how it got tangled with their present. They also start facing their feelings for each other and it won't be easy, since they will have to make tough choices that are inevitable, if they want to survive.
I loved how complex were Johnny and Becca and how even their darkest moments, they don't lose their spark. Johnny uses sarcasm to hide his feelings but I could tell in this book he was more worried about the situation with Becca that his humor was a bit darker and the guy was anxious about their futures. Becca is a resourceful woman and I love how she challenges Johnny and tries to understand him and is such a smartass.
As usual the story surprised me because the author is really good at writing suspense and crime plots. I was surprised about some things and I couldn't take a breath because things moved on quickly, but it makes sense because let's say the whole initial situation is kind of time-sensitive.
Needless to say, I'll wait for the last book of this trilogy which thankfully comes out in October!

5+++ Stars
With the second book in the Marchesi Empire series I can positively say that it was just as amazing as the first book, Torched Spades. This author has always killed it for me with the way she has captivated me with her storylines. This book was no different.
I was blown away by the twists and turns that happen with Johnny/Gianni and Becca’s story. I could not turn the pages fast enough only to get the most heart pounding cliffhanger. I can’t to get my hands on Tormented Diamonds.

Tortured Hearts is the long awaited second book in the Marchesi Empire series by Cora Kenborn - and it was well worth the wait! It took a hot minute for my menopause brain to remember everything that happened in book 1, but there was enough details in the beginning that it came back pretty fast. Love the intricate plot line. It was fast-paced, beautifully written, and had tons of action. The MCs are really just so invested and caught up in each other, against all the odds against them. I love how smart and cunning the heroine is and that the hero loves her for it. I can't wait to read the conclusion, which should be out in a couple of months.

TORTURED HEARTS by Cora Kenborn
First, let me say, if you haven’t read book 1, Torched Spades, yet…you must read it first…
Having said that……I always love books written by Cora Kenborn…but Tortured Hearts is on another level for me…She has written the crap outta this book…It grabbed me from page one...and I read it straight through in one day… I was, literally, carrying my iPad with me back and forth to the laundry room...reading as I folded clothes....I loved every freaking word..and I just could not put it down.....There's no "filler" in this book...every word is important to the story....that's one of the reasons I couldn't put it down...I didn't wanna miss a word...And, can we talk about that cover..., I'm obsessed with it...💜🌼
Tbh, I do not even know where to start to review Tortured Hearts without giving too much away … I can say this…we met Johnny and Becca in Torched Spades...and I loved them…but I had questions...Was Johnny a good guy?....Was he a bad boy?...The answer to both questions is "Yes"....Let's just say he's complicated ...and we knew everything wasn’t as it seemed (it never is in Ms. Kenborn’s books)…💜🌼
So, Gianni and Becca’s story continues in Tortured Hearts…He is still all alpha male, and he's still complicated....and Becca is one of my favorite female characters...She's a strong and smart and a good person …with a side of vulnerable bad-@$$ ... There are so many twists, turns and surprises in this book…and just when you think you've figured it out...you realize there's so much more.....Gianni and Becca just sizzle on the page...Ms. Kenborn has always known how to write sizzle..💜🌼
Do not miss this book…It’s one of the best I’ve read…and I can’t recommend it enough.. I woulda given it 10 stars if I could...I can’t wait for book 3..💜🌼
And because of a review I saw earlier…I’m gonna add here…Those of us who read series’ on a regular basis know that authors rarely release the whole series at once…shame on the person…who’s never even read this book…(1) reviewing it at all…and (2) using the fact that she had to wait for this book, as part of that review…It’s just ludicrous to me…If you haven’t read the book…you shouldn’t review it…period…Those ratings matter…💜🌼
Anyway..don’t miss this book…It’s one of the best I’ve read…and I can’t recommend it enough…Also.. I don’t mind waiting for a book like this..💜🌼

The suspense in this trilogy is killing me!
After reading TORCHED SPADES I’ve been dying to know what happened next with Johnny (Gianni) and Becca. So TORTURED HEARTS couldn’t come soon enough for me. I even did a re-read of the first book, before starting this little beauty. Just so everything was fresh in my mind. That still didn’t prepare me for what transpires in this book. No, I was completely blindsided by all the twists and turns. You would think I’d been hit by a lump of two by four (Plank of wood) as everything unfolds. Then adding in the danger and suspense, I was a wreck.
IT WAS SO GOOD! I think it’s broken me, but I still can’t wait for the finale. BRING IT ON BABY!

I can’t put into words exactly how Cora Kenborn is now 2 for 2 on pulling me from a reading slump while also putting me back into one because what book will match up after this? This book is fast-paced but so brilliantly woven, answering so many of the questions I had from book 1 while keeping me on the edge with more. It’s mostly Gianni’s story, but since he’s where all the action is right now, I didn’t mind. The romance is simply perfection and what he’ll do to keep her safe and alive just gets me every time. With that ending, it’ll be a long wait until October.

Gripping, suspense-filled earthy love affair
This is book two of a three-book series about the romance between Dr. Becca Brennan and reluctant mafioso Gianni Marchesi. As with the last book, this one starts off strong and remains that way throughout. Looking forward to book three for their conclusion. This book opens with a reminder of where our couple have found themselves and we get a glimpse of what happened to Victoria four months prior from book one. I like how the author is filling in some blanks for her readers. Once we return to present day, we find that Becca has been hospitalized for injuries sustained in a tragic fire where she was supposed to die. Johnny from book one has come clean and introduces himself as Gianni Marchesi and admits that he was in Witness Protection. This is most definitely a series which must be read in order. Why was he in Witsec? Who was Victoria to Gianni? Can all the federal officials be trusted?
If you like mafia romances that are raw with explicit scenes of torture, abduction and passion, you will love this book! We met Dr. Brennan in book one as an uptight psychiatrist meeting a new patient named Johnny Malone who is the irreverent bad boy with a witty reply for everything. Now in book two she has been seduced into more-than-liking her patient. Perish the thought we mention that four letter word LOVE! This second book in the Marchesi Empire trilogy continues on where the story ended in book one, Torched Spades. It won’t make as much sense if you don’t read book one before this book.
Gianni (Johnny) Marchesi AKA ‘Torch’, the enforcer of the New Jersey Mob ends up involved with a lot more than he bargained for. In this fast-paced story the drama is at an all-time high and the impact on Gianni, and Becca, is incredible.
Becca sees and experiences a lot of the drama firsthand, and it definitely isn’t a walk in the park. This author creates intense atmospheric scenes that make you desperate to read more—well, it did for me.
Be ready for some very interesting surprises, don’t believe everything you think is real, and enjoy the ride. Unpredictability is the key word and I loved it. I am already eager for the third book, especially after that ending, Tormented Diamonds.

Okay ever since picking up the first book in the Marchesi Empire after hearing Cora Kenborn's PA talking about it- I've needed more. I'm super privileged that I was able to receive an ARC of Tortured Hearts from Cora Kenbron and The Next Step PR!
I've been on the edge of my seat waiting on her to publish the rest because I'm obsessed with Gianni and Becca. After the cliffhanger in book 1 I needed to know how things were going to play out for these two characters. Cora absolutely gave us a banger of a book after coming back from a slight hiatus.
This book is filled with everything you want from our hero laced devil who shows us why he is the heir to the blood-soaked Marchesi Empire's throne. Things pick up right where they left off and did not slow down. I could not get enough of it and was stressed when I reached the ending because Cora left me wanting more!
I love how this book dives more into the MCs past lives and how it has lead to their present. That even in their darkest moments these two never lose their sparks for each other. We've learned that things aren't always as they seem and we are brought on a wild ride along with the characters.
This book defiantly needs to be read after Torched Spades and I will definitely be doing a whole reread soon as I wait patiently for book three.

Tortured Hearts is a total rollercoaster! The story pulls you in right away and doesn’t let go. Gianni is dangerous but protective, trying to shield Becca from his dark past. When things go wrong, he turns into a killer with nothing to lose.
Becca is caught up in a game she doesn’t understand, but she’s way stronger than she thinks. The twists and turns kept me hooked, and the pacing is nonstop. This book is packed with action, suspense, and intense chemistry between the characters.
If you love dark thrillers with high stakes, this is a must-read. Can’t wait for more!

Omg! Becca and Gianni’s story keeps better and better. There’s so many twists and turns in the second book! I was on edge on every single page waiting for the other shoe to drop. I shouldn’t be surprised, is my fiercely Becca and my beautiful monster Gianni! Decisions have to be made, power is needed, and there’s no other way! There betrayal, secrets unveiled, new alliances and so much more. This cliffhanger left me wanting more, so I can’t wait for the last book!!! I devoured this book! PHENOMENAL and well played!!!!

Ms. Kenborn is one of my favorite mafia authors and this series was one of the best she has written (yeah I read all three again before leaving a review, sorry).
There is never a dull moment, twists and turns galore, lies and deception around every corner, emotional and witty banter and chemistry so hot you'll get burned.
If you love a strong FMC and a possessive, dominating MMC, you'll love this trilogy. The author has outdone herself with this series.
Without hesitation I am giving these books 5 stars!

Could not put it down! So good! It was worth the wait!
Coral is an excellent writer, she knows how to grip you with her words to keep you wanting more. You feel the emotions of her characters (who are fantastic) throughout the entire story. The plot is so well done that you might know what is next, but you don't.
Gianni and Becca's love story is just one tragedy after another, but fate can be a witch that brought these two together and you'll see how they come out the other side. Their story doesn't end here, there's more to come. This is only the second act of three.

There is a huge twist to their story. To me a wow twist. I knew I was going to be left hanging. It is the second book afterall. I NEED book #3, the conclusion now!
I zoomed through this book. I didn’t want to put it down. Only a couple of months and the wait will be over, and I will get my HEA!

The wait for this was worth it! Tortured Hearts is a high-stakes, emotional descent into the dark heart of mafia romance. So book one left us on a huge cliff hanger and the wait for book two was well worth the wait….but honestly if Cora is writing it I know it is worth the wait. Johnny has been on the top of my book boyfriend list and he is still there as Gianni! Becca and Gianni are combustible…actually I think they became more combustible! This book doesn’t just weave us, it bulldozes, drops us off a cliff and has us hanging on wanting more!!

Oh my goodness!!!!! This book was amazing. Gianni is seriously hot! The twisted web Marcello Marchesi weaves and has lead his son and everyone in LA Cosa Nostra on its complex. But Gianni is smart enough to figure it out. I can't wait for the final installment and see just how Gianni and Becca deal with their new life.

I have absolutely devoured this book and I need the next one now. I loved the characters and getting to explore more of their layers. We definitely got to see another side of Gianni, which really gave his character this other dimension and we truly got to explore him enacting ‘touch her and die’. Becca is really turning into this confident woman who is starting to realise what she wants not only from her life and relationship, but also what she wants to be able to protect those that she loves. The tension that their story builds has me gripping the edge of my seat and I’m so eager for the massive relief that is to come when they can finally just be and not have all these obstacles in their way. The writing flows so nicely and has you gripped from the very start. I had a couple of inklings towards some of the twists but the way they are executed still gives them that shock factor.

This books progresses quickly after the cliffhanger is revealed and Johnny and Becca must deal face to face with their fears and the dangers facing them. They both face tough choices that must be addressed. This book was even better than book one. Johnny's sarcasm to deal with tough situations and his feelings was amazing to read! This is not a stand alone book - I highly recommend book one. Plot twists and an amazing plot line full of captivating secrets, lies, and heartbreak make for one of the most intriguing books you will read this year!
