Rate this book
How do you escape the light when you set out to make it shine so bright?

We should have never met, not in this life or the next.

We are two souls chained to the opposite spectrums of life.

Light and dark.

Day and night.

One cannot exist without the other.

I can no longer hide from my demons, but his are far worse. They swirl in his eyes and chase the fear from my mind.

He made me a deal, and I sold my soul in the hope of peace.
But darkness leaves its mark and Callan Scott is danger personified.
He’s my ticket to freedom.
My way to a new life.

I’ve survived all these years, I can survive one more month.

One month is nothing, a mere blink in time.

It just leaves one question.

Will I survive him?

SPOILERS AHEAD————

What was the point of this book? Here’s the reasons/storyline I had issues with.

1) we see the characters meet each other. In the beginning the h gives off major submissive vibes. Idk why the author never went into the BDSM trope? It was set up perfectly for it.

2) the H is an a-hole who never redeems himself in my eyes. He treats women like shit and knows he’s doing it even when called out on it. His reasoning? He’s waiting for “the one”… “his equal”. This is what he responds to the h with when she calls him on his shit. I get why the author did this, she didn’t want insta-love but this just further cheapens the relationship they were trying to build.

3) obvs like any other good (that’s sarcastic- I mean washed up) romance book, the hero has a “one and done” policy. Hasn’t even been kissed yet. Doesn’t mix business with pleasure. But by his own admission after meeting the h he was thrown off his game and slept with an office colleague.

4) brings me to my next point. He knows that worker is waiting in his office so he beings the h with him (after their arrangement for a month is decided) and makes her see him treat this other women (who was nude for him) like shit. His reason? “I like seeing you jealous” but it’s still just a sex only arrangement. Yeah buddy. Right.

5) we don’t get to see him nearly as possessive or jealous.

6) he seemed to get his head out of his ass but uses the h situation to get his sis back. Which I don’t blame him for.. but there’s no reason why he never tells her the truth. It’s hidden from her, so when she overheard him calling Isabel (his sis)- “his world” she misunderstands. She came clean to him, there’s really no reason for him to hide his truth.

7) after the capture when she’s brought back, it seemed to me like Callun wasn’t doing enough to be with her or on her side. Like she was being frosty because she still didn’t know Isabel and his relationship and HE LET HER push him away. This woman was beaten within an inch of her life and he never even tries hard enough to be with her.

8) another thing is when she’s rescued, he sticks with Isabel. When he sees her bleeding and lying on the floor.. she tells him “Isabel is here” and he LEAVES HER. He goes to find his sis who even after he sees is ok, never leaves her, and let’s his men take “the love of his life” home. Even his men thought the h was pathetic for falling for a man who didn’t like being kissed. Like they felt sorry for her even though they didn’t like her.

9) even after EVERYTHING is cleared up, he gets her a new identity and let’s her leave. In fact he orchestrated it. In the words of the h: “so that’s it?… I love you, goodbye”. Wtf? He could’ve chosen to let her stay and be together but he didn’t. This is further actually mentioned by his own men to the h before she leaves. Yeah. He doesn’t even see her all the way off.

10) 6 months later they meet again because “he couldn’t stay away” and everything is forgotten and forgiven too soon on my opinion. BTW- he was supposedly dating other women after he sent HER away but never slept with them. He was trying to “protect her”.

I know so many alpha-men (books) who would laugh in his face at his actions. This is no alpha man. He’s an indecisive POS who only promises in words and not actions. His intentions are not backed by actions and idk why the h loves him so much? She should’ve asked him to prove it.

Originally I thought he went to war for her, until we realize she was just an opportunity for it. The people she was running from were the same ones who had his sister. So he uses everything she told him to find her. And his men use this as an excuse to make her feel like shit after she cancels the arrangement because he was hurt. He was going to war anyway!!! No one in this book treats this girl right… at least I didn’t get any pushover vibes from her.

Callun is so afraid of his own feelings, I can’t deal with it. Let the new generation of “alpha-men” know what they want and how to properly treat their woman.

Initial impression… this FMC is annoying AF. She’s so beautiful… model beautiful… and feels so faceless 🙄. She’s got a secret. Wait did you hear me… she has a secret. No, really she has a secret. This secret made her run and hide as a model, and she wants to run and hide as something else… “escape”….but her being so in the public may be what’s keeping “them” from attacking her for her “secret.” G’zus. By 4%, I feel her negativity squeezing my brain.

She and a friend leave a bar. She falls asleep in his car and wakes up in a parking lot of some secret strip club kinda place. This should be an exciting scene. It’s not. It’s word vomit….

wherever it is he has slipped off to. One thing I’m certain about is that he is in there, in that ostentatious building. I stare at it for a moment, trying to gauge what may be behind the light white brick and heavy black door. I will my eyes to see past the brick and mortar and scan the inside, desperate for some dormant sixth sense to appear and give me an answer, to supply me with x-ray vision or at the very least the blueprints, so I know what the hell I’m about to walk into. My mind made up, I walk up the steps and give the door a confident knock. It echoes like a gong, sounding my arrival to the streets of London, and it makes me flinch. Well, they certainly know I’m here now. I wait, expecting for the door to click open, but after a few minutes, nothing happens. Leaning in, I press my ear to the door, listening out for footsteps but hearing nothing. Giving the heavy door a push to get a feel for its weight, I’m surprised that without noise, it opens ever so slightly; the gap opening up to give me a glimpse of black inside. “If I die, Oscar…” I mutter. I check over my shoulder before my hand comes up, and I push my way in, peering around the door. Marble upon marble and pillars as thick as tree trunks splay out before me. They span the entire length of the entrance hall. Oh wow, it’s a luxury hotel, is my initial thought, but the further I move inside, the less I am convinced of that. Where is everyone? Surely there would be a porter or a receptionist. On closer inspection, there is no reception, just an extravagant foyer, making me feel less welcome by the second. I falter in my steps and become indecisive. Maybe I should leave? I turn back to the door but chew my lip, tormented by what I should do. Why would Oscar leave me outside? What if something is wrong? I step away from the door, careful to keep the sound of my heels muted. I venture inside and crane my neck, hoping to see around the double staircase. It’s opulent and easily the most beautiful place I have been inside. The stairs are complete with a sweeping balustrade that glides upwards to an open landing. “Hello, Oscar?” I call out. How come he has never brought me here before? Neck-high stone pots don huge leafy plants throughout the space. It’s dark and exotic. I pick up gold trimmings here and there as they gleam off from the preposterous chandeliers that spew light everywhere. The black marble floor is like oil, smear-free, decadent, and I hate to admit, I love it.

This ^^^^^ is not efficient writing. This is empty calorie word count, and it’s the kiss of death for a book IMHO. The author has managed to kill the tension of the scene with this winded, pointless, diatribe of the scenery.

Aside from being horrible writing style, a Southern Living-style diatribe of the aesthetics isn’t what someone in danger would be thinking.

Anyhoo, by 10%, I stop and go look for spoilers in other reviews because this shit is like wading through molasses. There better be something mighty fine to come. Apparently not.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4303965804

^^^ That review told me all I needed to know to determine this is yet another DNF.

Okay, this gets just 2,5/5 stars.

I apologize in advance for any spelling or grammar mistakes, English is not my first language.

There are some spoilers at the end, very predictable spoilers, but read carefully if you wish.

Again, this is a book I found on tiktok, and I was expecting SO MUCH MORE. I mean, who doesn't love a good dark romance right? Well, if you enjoyed it, I would be very happy for you, but in my case, I didn't.

There were a bunch of things I enjoyed about this book, but that just covers the two stars, then the other, it's just full of toxic and boring stuff.

I mean, the main characters? Besides being boring as f*ck, they also cannot communicate to even save their lives. How is it that the main character knows all the sh*tty stuff the male interest is into in the END OF THE BOOK??? I MEAN C'MON.

Like the idea was there, and it was a veeery good idea. But I don't think it was executed the way it was planned. The two main characters were annoying, and the typical relationship. A male interest in an Alpha role who treats everyone like shit, AND HER AS WELL. And the main female character who is supposed to be running from the russians since years before, but she couldn't f*cking learn to defend herself? I mean, it said she was running from them years before meeting him, she could have taken a bunch of classes, or at least bought herself something to defend herself. It was a very sweet pie for someone running away from russians.

The way her character could have been such a badass, who knew how to fight and didn’t care what the f*ck the male interest said, WHERE SHE DID WHAT HE F*CK SHE WANTED. We were robbed, that’s all I'm saying.

At the end of the book, you can read the author trying to explain a little more about each character. Making him cry because she left??? So out of character, and out of nowhere. I think it is perfect for men to cry in a book, and I think they should be portrayed as vulnerable as well. iI looove a sensitive man, but this was so sudden and quickly, it didn’t show what the author (i guess) that wanted to show. Then, the male character says all this stuff to the main character like “I love how you are so sassy, and put me in my place and blah blah blah” i mean??? Again, so out of character for both of them. All I could notice throughout the book was the main character always being quiet and doing everything he wanted. Maybe at the end she changed a bit, after she yelled at the other men. I felt like the author tried to get it all in the end, like the character development (?) and the love, and happy ending in the two chapters left. But I felt we could have had so much more :(

I don’t know, this is my opinion on this book. Let me know if I am messing something up, because I feel like I missed something.

Escape The Light by A. R. Thomas is the story of Zara Reid and Callan Scott. Zara is a top model who has secrets but right now she might have a bigger issue. Oscar is her friend who picks her up but she happens to fall a sleep. When she wakes up she alone in the car. Worried she goes to find her friend what she runs into is Callan. Callen takes her to his office where Oscar is brought to her who is in bad shape. But the worst thing (or is it?) is that she is now on Callan radar.
I will be looking for more from this author.

what. a. fucking. perfect. BOOK!!!!!! i throughly enjoyed every single second reading this. i loved how their love was unlike any others (at least for me) because it felt very realistic. it was uber hot, not like steamy (though it was, not too steamy though) but like incredibly hot. i loved the two characters, i loved how this was good girl/bad guy, i love how she was humble and you know callan was just super hot. yeah what a great read, i desperately wanted to see the ending but i was also dreading it being over😩 my ONLY issue was we didn’t get sexy times in the epilogue😭

I still feel like I do not know either characters at all. Also Zara was one of the most annoying heroines I have ever read about, I hate to say it. While physically Cal and Zara are compatible, their emotional chemistry was a big fat 0 to me. Also the fact that we just ignore how he has been using her???

This is a review that will not give anything away!
Why? Because this is a story that has to be read!
A story you will find yourself reading again and again.

Meet Zara Reid a top successful model in London.
She has it all! Money, frame and beauty but yet she lives in pure darkness afraid of the past and what’s to come.

Meet Callan Scott Pure Alpha - A powerful, dangerous beast of a man. Living on the wrong side of the law, hiding in the shadows yet isn’t afraid of anyone…the fear comes from him.

This story completely and utterly consumed me.
Sleep didn’t exist as I found myself lost in the world of Callan And Zara, I was incapable of putting the book down even for a second needing/wanting answers.
Answers you may or may not like… that is beauty of this book!

Be prepared to feel ALL the feelings, parts of the story will have you feeling nothing but pure anger one moment and your heart in your throat while holding back the tears the next.

You will fall in love with both Zara and Callan as their stories unfold.
“Two souls chained to the opposite spectrums of life. “
Dark events take place in their lives as they meet, both wanting a way to escape from their demons. A rollercoaster of emotions are brought forward, Hatred, bitterness and confusion.

The dark maybe the enemy at times but when the fire
ignites between two individuals you are faced with nothing but intense burning passion….do they let their feelings get the better of them?? You will have to find out.

Beautifully written, have to say the best book yet of A R Thomas.
I just pray and hope for a part 2!

4 stars 🤩🤩

Where to begin? I've read this trope before, but for some reason, it worked for me.
We have a supermodel and a mob boss, and their chemistry is off the charts.
Also, the hero in the beginning of the book reminded me of Reo from Netflix's Good Girls ( I have a huge crush on him )

I was intrigued and excited for Callan and Zara since their brief appearance in the whiskey promises series. Their story was consuming, their chemistry palpable through the pages. I loved the mafia vibes of the whole book, Zara was an amazing heroine who wouldn’t hide and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind to a guy everybody feared, which had me liking her a lot. And the soft side of Cal mixed with his dominance earned a spot in my book boyfriends list. I really liked this book and I hope we can get Isabella and Stalin story in the future.

One day.
ONE WHOLE DAY I read this amazing read written by the talented A.R Thomas.
I honestly couldn’t put my Kindle down!!

Zara Reid, London’s Top Model.
Most would think that she lives the high life of luxury, fame and money but if only they knew the reality that she hides daily. Being in the limelight is her only saving grace.
Her life is far from happy, if anything she feels nothing but loneliness and emptiness.
With Oscar Winters as her only friend; the one who she can truly depend on, she has no one else.
That is until she meets Callan Scott, a moody, dark yet beautiful creature of a man who brings fear to all who face him but not Zara. All she feels around him is a sense of calm.

Callan Scott, a dangerous and powerful yet alluring alpha who likes to live in the shadows; a parallel opposite to Zara’s intentions of life.
Battling his own demons, his curiosity with Zara piques, and he knows that she is suffering too with her own nightmares despite them being hidden through her daily false facade.
But he is a one-night only man despite him wanting Zara desperately, his control spirals when it comes down to her.

In need of his help, she seals a deal with the handsome beast who declares a month to be spent with him to feed his own insatiable appetite, and she agrees to it to bid a new life of freedom.

But can she handle a month or do her feelings get the better of her?

I absolutely loved Zara and Callan’s storyline to the extent that I just could not physically put my kindle down!
The story flowed so beautifully and I was truly captivated throughout it entirely. I felt like I was there on every single page, living their lives with them.
The raw emotion that I felt, and the huge tug that pulled on my heartstrings, I honestly felt every emotion possible throughout my journey with Zara and Callan.

Another wonderful masterpiece created by A.R Thomas.

Couldn’t get past 19% of this book.

Why is he just turning up in her flat? Following her? Talking to her like shit? Being the biggest creep on the planet?

“I only want a woman once. Once I’ve had you I won’t look at you again.”

Em, GROSS?

And why is she so okay with that? Or that he kicked the shit out of her best friend? Just because she’s attracted to him?

I am so over the whole alpha male who gets away with being a complete prick to everyone because he’s got that “animal magnetism”. I really fail to believe anyone actually finds that attractive.

I’ve read so many books with the same themes and tropes that were far less boring and more believable than this was. I can usually push myself to at least 50% of a book before calling it quits but this one was impossible.

I always hesitate giving books one star reviews because I know this is someone’s work, someone has put time and energy into this but nothing could compel me to keep reading this, so sorry but 1/5 and I felt generous giving that.

I wished the girl atleast stood her ground when the H is around but no. Everytime he's near she gets all hot and bothered. The guy has so much pretty privilege, he does so much creepy sht at the start but its okay bc the girl finds him attractive.
There's also how it gets repetitive like, girl! Yes! We get ittt, no one one truly knows you, not even yourselfff! Stop saying it over every freaking chapter 🙄
Also! For someone who has ppl after her, she does not think much tbh. Didn't even try to.

London’s most sought out model, Zara Reid, desperately wants to escape from her past. She thinks she found her ticket to freedom when she meets the mysterious club owner Callan Scott.

Rachel, you’ve completely knocked it out of the park with this story 🙌🏻 Words can’t describe how much I love Zara and Callan ❤️ I generally prefer reading dual perspectives but you write single pov so well I don’t feel like I missed out on Callan at all. That said, his pov in the epilogue is a nice surprise 🥰

Zara is for sure one of my favourite heroines. I admire her strength - how she survives everything life throws at her. And her sass 👌🏻 While Callan lives on the wrong side of the law and no one dares cross him, Zara constantly challenges him with her smart mouth. They crack me up so much it’s unreal 🤣

They find it hard to trust people because of their past and they’re always on edge. Only when Zara is around Callan, she feels liberated, peaceful and safe. At the same time, she breaks through Callan’s darkness and brings out his carefree, humorous and gentle side.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Callan Scott. Holy smokes this man is an absolute beast, in size and in bed. Insanely and panties-meltingly hot 🥵 No one f*cks like him and omfg the angry sex💦 He owns my heart, body and soul. If you’ve read JEM’s books, Callan is Jesse Ward, Miller Hart and Theo Kane rolled into one. He is ruthless, controlled, and beautiful. I honestly can’t resist him *kneels on both knees*

This book is packed with action, full of secrets and rich with love. The plot is superb and the writing is simply incredible. I know I’m going to reread this book a million times and still get all the 🦋 The only question is… Stalin and Isabelle? 👀

I read Zara and Callam’s story in one go as I could not stop turning the pages! I laughed, cried and all the feelings in between…

This is an amazing story, that touches your soul, of two people who need to escape the light and the dark. Both characters are mysterious because of their pasts. You get to know them and what truly drives them as you read the book. It shows strength, determination, passion, true love and so much more with a few twists and turns.

I definitely recommend ‘Escape the light’ to anyone for an amazing and exciting read! AR Thomas has such a way with words, they draw you in and you just have to carry on reading!
Truly amazing!

Would You give everything You have just to disappear from this world? To be unknown, to start over so You don't have to watch your back all the time so you don't have to live in fear anymore? That was Zara's plan from age 12. but things wont always go as we planned. The funny thing is that Zara is living a luxurious life a rich life on the spot and in the light and this life is what saves her but not for long and she knows it that's why she wanna disappear. There's a beautiful supermodel (but she is so much more) who lives in front of cameras she has everything except freedom and there's a man a mysterious sexy man who is a villain ( is he really a villain?) Callan lives in the shadows a bar owner a heartless cold business man. (but he is so much more) Zara realized that this man can help her manage her plan but they left one thing out of this plan......love. Zara is everything he never expected and exactly what he secretly wished for.
This is a story of finding yourself again
This is a story of finding peace
This is a story of dancing with the devil
This is a story of love and how you learn to trust
This couple is heaven and hell in one. Everybody is hiding something and noone's what they look like or seems like. A story full of secrets and twists and turns.
"I want him to free me from this life to escape the light and find the shadows again"
"Everything is about choice and consequences"
Congrats Rachel on your 3rd book. Its a 5star read.

Where to start?

I’ve been waiting to read this book for a while now, since we had a glimpse at these characters in an earlier book of A.R.Thomas’s.

The story’s main characters Zara and Callan, both come from damaged pasts. Through the story, we start to find out small pieces of information that gives us an idea of what has happened to Zara.

By starting a relationship of sorts with each other, they realise that they can escape their lives. For Zara it’s escaping a past that is still following her and for Callan it’s finding something that he never expected.

The chemistry between these two is off the charts and I mean off the charts, too hot to touch!! It’s soul searing, the kind of chemistry that you know will spark and give us a great passionate story!

The story has you gripped all the way through, with heart stopping moments and there are times you want to cry, scream, laugh and jump up with joy. It takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions!

I have been honoured to get a sneak glimpse before it goes on sale and I can honestly say that none of the readers will be disappointed with this book. I love the darkness, the light and most of all the romance of it! Callan and Zara will steal a piece of your heart 🖤

This book!!! Wow. I have never wanted to call off of work so badly in my life so that I could read this uninterrupted. This book was everything that I didn't know I needed and more. Life hasn't been fair to Callan or Zara, but they take each others' broken parts and heal them.

Zara is a gorgeous top model who has sass for days!! I loved how she stood up to Callan. My heart broke for her whenever we discover what happened to her in her past. I love how she wasn't afraid to ask for what she wanted and had the courage to follow through. Her ability to get under Callan's skin was an added bonus! (winky face)

Callan. This man is hot and intense! I enjoyed his alpha-ness and how his rough demeanor had my attention from the start. I devoured this book to get more and more of him! I was not disappointed at all. His softer moments that he reserved only for Zara had me melting. I love this man's passion and compassion he had for Zara. Not to mention, the sex scenes between them were off the charts!

This book had me feeling all of the emotions! I was intrigued. I laughed. I cried. I was swooned!! A.R. Thomas, you totally knocked this out of the park! One of my favorite reads of 2021!!

As soon as i read the synopsis for this book i wanted to read it right away and i had to add this book to my TBR List! Being new to Ms.Thomas's work i've been wanting to pick up her books and that had me looking so forward to getting into this one as well! I enjoyed this story!

Zara and Callan's journey got my attention! From the moment these two are brought into each other's lives, i was wondering what was going to happen in their story. I wasn't sure what all to expect and that had me into it even more. I really liked the heat between these two and how i felt many things with both characters as well!

With Escape The Light, Ms.Thomas has created a good read! I am so looking forward to picking up more of her work in the future!

ok ok ok i was confused she’s oliva monroe and callan wanted an Isabella. He literally found her after she was KIDNAPPED, started to untie her and then said ‘isabella is here’ AND HE LEFT HER. ON. THE. CHAIR.

She was only his SISTER [DIE] why didn’t they just communicate.

no no no no no because if he loved her be would’ve of stayed but he didn’t. omg. he didn’t try, feeing for girly pop right now

it’s ok though cause his actually so sweet and i love him and the ending and all is to die for especially how it released information that was hidden from the reader. so cute, i just want to run up and hug them.

Our main character has a secret. Also she’s beautiful, stunning even. She’s a model. But she doesn’t like it. She gives it her all though, even though she doesn’t care. She has a secret. This secret has caused her to have to go into hiding. But like, by stepping into the limelight, you know. She has to be famous so “they” can’t get to her. It’s related to her secret. Also, did I mention she has a secret?

I just couldn’t stop rolling my eyes at these first chapters. The writing isn’t great and the actions and inner monologues of these characters so far are ridiculous. I looked up some reviews when I was about 13% in. That’s when I knew enough. I don’t like asshole love interests. Please explain to me why I didn’t notice those reviews when I added this book to my TBR…

Escape The Light by A.R. Thomas Zara Reid is a very famous model who hates the business. When out with her friend she wakes up in the car by herself. When she goes looking for her friend she ends up in a stip/sex club. Lost and confused she runs into the owner Callahan Scott. Initially she has an issue with him when her friend is returned to her beat up, however she not only has a physical attraction to Callahan but he can help her with her secret. I liked the premise of the story and the characters but the way the story was told needed something.  Whereas as I am giving this story a 3 I feel it could have been much more. This is my first time reading this author so it could be I am not use to her storytelling style. It also looks like she maybe a fairly new author. I look forward to reading more from this author and see the progression. A good story that left me with a smile on my face.

Escape the Light is another absolutely incredible read by A.R Thomas and it captured my heart completely! Zara and Callan's journey kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and gave me so many feels; it's beautifully epic and intensely gripping!

Zara and Callan might look like opposites at a first glance but there's the same darkness lurking around them that connects them in more ways than you might think! Their chemistry is amazing, the tension incredible and man the passion between them, seriously omg my heart!!

Callan and his mysteriousness drew me in but there's so much more to him, just like there is to Zara. I adored her sassiness so so much, like the way she kept challenging him every step of the way, go girl!! and how he started to show his gentle soft parts when with her is everything.

They're literally perfect for each other, and oh boy how swoon-worthy, and hot! But the vulnerability gaah it owns me!! This is a whole ride and became my favorite read from the author!

"You gave me light when I had none, do you know that? I was barely functioning before you. You breathed that back into me, and I am so fucking grateful."

*I received this ARC from the author but the thoughts are completely my own.*

4.5 ☆

Zara & Callan both have pasts that have made them who they are now. When Zara has had enough of being in the light, she asks Callan for help, all he asks for in return is for one month. The question is, will they both survive the month?

Zara & Callan's chemistry is off the charts & the character development of both is beautiful. Like any good romance story, this one brings you on an emotional rollercoaster ride! It will definitely pull at your heart-strings.

This was a read all in one day, can't put it down read & I absolutely loved it!

Theres no reason for this rating to be this low…. THIS BOOK WAS AMAZINGGGGGG. The writing, the plot, the smut, and those little moments where youre smiling and laughing with them. Theres a kind of slow start but it was so much more than worth it to get into this book

Oh. My. God.
Where do I start? A.R.Thomas has done it again. I was a mess.
Zara has the all the sass.
Callan is the dark and brooding alpha ar$ehole.
The angst and the sexual tension is off the chart 🔥🔥🔥.
Yes, they both have murky and dark pasts, yet they need each other in the most rawest and deepest way.
They bring the best out in each other. The softer moments Zara brings out in Callan melts my heart.
At points I had no idea where this story was going. I didn't want to put my kindle down but in the same breath I wanted to live with them both a bit longer!
I loved it. So emotional. All the feels. Well done to the amazingly talented Rachel ❤

Quote(s):“You, my girl, are everything I never expected and exactly what I fucking wished for.” “I only want a woman once. Once I’ve had you I won’t look at you again.”

The idea behind this book is intriguing but I feel it fell short in some areas. The main female character, Zara Reid, is a badass top model who hates everything about her job. She is a little weak for my liking at the start (where does all the confidence that she has from modeling and being famous go when confronted with Callan Scott?). It's also the fact that she is in hiding by plastering her face everywhere. I get it, I do. The whole hide in plain sight thing but could you really keep up such a high-maintenance lifestyle, all the while absolutely detesting everything about it and hiding from criminals at the same time? Just a little far-fetched but the premise builds as Zara gets a little braver.

Now, as for Callan's character, I usually enjoy the whole Alpha male, obsessive, protective, a little criminal role for the main male character. However, if anyone ever said to me, "once I've had you I won't look at you again", I would only feel disgust for that person. I'm all for a bad boy vibe but this just made me struggle to like him. I think it was also hard to connect to him as most of his character development happens in the background. You are told he has changed but you don't really get to experience it. He also runs a business that stems from a dark background for him, a moment in his past that he really hates. It was nice to see a little into why he is so blocked off from his emotions and why he acts like he does with most people.

Despite everything, the story had a lot of promise, it just wasn't executed as well as I would have liked. There was a lack of depth to the characters, the reasons why certain things happened and the revolutions needing exploring more too. I was also disappointed by the ending, I just felt that there were some threads that weren't tied off properly. I will still look for more by this author in the future as I liked the writing style and although, there were some things I didn't like, there were also some things I did. I just can't remember much of them at the moment. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy read but I take no responsibility if you end up not liking it.

This book is everything. ❤️
#LeSigh
It's passion, it's bravery, it's loneliness, it's humor, it's intense chemistry, it's dark hero and beautiful strong heroine, it's love, it's suspense and angst, and it's blissful happiness. So yes, if you are a fan of all of the abowe then Escape the Light is a MUST READ for you.
Zara and Callan's story is definitely much more then the author' s previous duet, and so very different. I feel like she put more work and heart into Escape The Light, it turned out to be a slam dunk in my opinion, and I have to say it made it into my top 10 read of 2021. I loved the edgy, the raw passion. This book is pure, over the charts, sizzling chemistry. It's a total page turner. The characters are complex, the plot well built, the story was flowing and it held my attention at every step. I felt it all in my heart.
P. S. ➡️ R., I love your words. ❤️
