It is bittersweet to write this final review. I am thrilled to listen and find out how the series wrapped up, but I am so sad that this series is over. Fabulous characters with a terrific plot with several central storylines woven throughout the entire series. This book wraps it all up and finishes it off for us. I so hope that the author will find a way to work these characters into future books or possibly even a spin off series? I absolutely love the narrator as she really brought the books to life and made the characters feel ever so real! I definitely will be looking to listen to more from her as well as read or listen to more from this author! If you haven't yet listened to this series, you absolutely need to add it to your TBR list and start listening! I promise you will be delightfully entertained and fall in love with the characters!
But...but...she's a girl. Even I'd she's the secret daughter of an Earl she can't inherit. She doesn't even get a title she's a girl. That's not how this works. When might have an inheritance but not things that would be tied to a title. Benedict would still be the Earl.
Ew. She's dating her cousin. I dont care if he's like a 4th-5th cousin. Ew. What really bothers me this is modern times and not a historical novel. Doesn't weird me out as much in historical novels. I was figuring the young Earl was probably her father but cousin.
Part of me wants more, part of me is annoyed because this isn't how this works

What utter nonsense! Even if Poppy had been recognised as the Viscounts' daughter she would never have held the title because England still allows male-only primogeniture for aristocratic titles, and an only very recently was it amended for the British throne for the first born child of Prince William.
Whether you believe it to be right or not is irrelevant. If an Earl only has daughters it will skip to next closest male cousin. The actual estate is in most cases tied to the title with lifetime grants and trusts so she'd be unlikely to inherit the property either. Also laws of adoption have to be taken into account.
The irony is that the story would have been far more compelling had Warren made the point that Poppy, without being aware of her father's position, had found her rightful place by falling in love with Benedict.
I do wish American authors would not take such huge liberties and fail to do the relevant research when setting stories in England.
Really this was a, maximum, three novel story dragged out into nine short books. Quantity over quality, it's all about the money per book. You cannot pick up a random book from the series and read it as a standalone novel because they are not completely separate tales. The eighth book doesn't even have a resolution and to resolve that case you have to read this final book.
It's not even a Witches baking show.. it's a badly done rip off of the Great British Bake Off.. Elspeth Peach? Mary Berry, two comedians as presenters.. could you make it more obvious? The only witches are Poppy, and the judges.. and had it been reduced to three regular sized novels, rather than nine short ones, it wouldn't have been necessary to kill off most of the village at the rate of at least one a week just to drag it out..
I hate giving three stars to the final book in this series but.. ughh the answers were all so ridiculously obvious I think it made Poppy just look like a fool. Overall, I think the series was okay, it sort of ran out of steam at the end.
Such a great ending to the series. All the different threads were tied up nicely and the clues leading the reader to the murderer weren’t very obvious until right near the end. I finished with a big smile on my face after reading all night because I couldn’t stop reading.
This was lighter but enjoyable reading. I do like Nancy Warren’s writing.
Whisk and Reward is Book 9 and the FINAL book in the amazing Great Witches Baking Show by Nancy Warren. As sad as I am to see the series end, this book had everything I could possibly ask for with a most satisfy ending.
NO SPOILERS HERE!!!!!
I will say after all the weeks of the baking competition it was exciting to see who the winner was.
There are several mysteries that are wrapped up and they are perfectly paced, leaving you feeling so satisfied.
The characters are well written, and the magical element is really well written.
The location is described so well I honestly feel like I am right there.
I will miss this series, but maybe Poppy will show up as a guest in another series, well a GIRL can hope, can't she?
I highly recommend reading this entire series, and for the most enjoyment start from the beginning.
The finale we have all be anxiously awaiting for. Who will win the contest? Florence or Hammish? Who is Poppy rooting for? What is the ‘final’ challenged these two competitors have to make? What else will Poppy stumble into?
These are just a few of the questions that the fans of Nancy Warren’s book series are asking. No spoilers in this review. You have to read the book to find out.
With the contest winding down and Poppy appears to have a possible blooming relationship with Benedict will she finally find what she is looking for? The mysterious Johanna shows again and at the funeral for Benedict’s father oh and another murder to be solved. Thanks to Poppy’s witchy hearing she hears a ghost a knocking during the interment into the mausoleum. Twists and turns during the story makes for a quick read (as in you cannot put the book down). Let me tell you that Poppy figures out her biological parents, there is a winner of the contest and I personally was rooting for that contestant during this book (when you read the story you’ll understand) and a fabulous recipe at the very end of the book.
What are you waiting for? Give it a go and when you are done with this series check out the other series by Ms. Warren, you won’t be disappointed
Whisk and Reward is the ninth and final book in Nancy Warren's Great Witches Baking Show.
I'm so sorry to see this series come to a close lol, but I dragged it out as long as I could. Of course Poppy gets her happily ever after and there's a fun little mystery (and some great reveals) too.
The audio version of the entire series is beautifully performed by Hollis McCarthy.
I totally enjoyed this entire series. I'm so glad to see all the plotlines wrapped up and Poppy's true destiny revealed. I hope this is not the end for Poppy and her adventures. So enjoyed every single book! Thank you Nancy for the great witchy baking ride!
This was a lovely ending to this fun, light, paranormal mystery series. All of the loose ends starting from those that began in the first entry in this nine-book series were tied up. And the major hanging end from the previous entry was also resolved. We finally know who wins the baking contest. I anticipated a few things that happened in this book, but absolutely didn't see some things coming. I have truly enjoyed this series, and am sorry to see it end. If a mystery featuring a British baking show and many witches sounds interesting, don't read this book: start with the first entry!
Another well done cosy mystery series by Canadian writer Nancy Warren, each series is different and this one was very well done with the Great British Baking Show as its centre.
WHISK AND REWARD is a standalone last book in the series with a great ending. If you have been reading this series, this is all the answers you have been waiting on. Nope, I'm not going to tell you what they are but I will tell you there are no loose ends. All is well in Broomwode Manor. You will discover:
Who is mom and dad to Poppy? Who wins the baking contest? Where the shawl came from? Who murdered the Earl? What is the Hawk connection> Where did Joanna go? Who is Joanna? Did Katie kill the Earl? Is Mitty crazy? Do happy hens lay happy eggs? Why did Valarie leave her new baby behind? Will the Countess marry her financial advisor? Who killed Charlie? Did Gerry pass to the other side? and anything else I forgot.
You will love this last book in the series. It solves all the mysteries. There will be several things that you never saw coming. Poppy scores!! A great fun, adventurous read and I definitely recommend it. You don't want to miss finding out all the answers. Great read.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/7/2022.
2.75 STARS. I’m going to review the whole series here. Ultimately, I’m somewhat unsatisfied by not the actual conclusion of the storyline but the general overall pacing of the nine book series. Upon reflection I’ve realised that actually almost absolutely nothing happens in the first seven books when it comes to solving the central mystery. Considering that Poppy loses in book 6 there was more than enough space to start ramping up and getting more clues to the central mystery. I would’ve also have liked to see more buildup and characters development for the central romance. We all knew it was going to be Benedict but I still think that that could’ve been more. The cozy elements of the story are done extremely well and highly enjoyable.

I enjoyed these last 2 books better, but I still think the overall series is 2-stars. I was so underwhelmed with the ending, so much was left dangling or vaguely resolved.
Maybe I simply don’t get the nature of the cozy mystery, but I seem to always mostly enjoy the overarching storyline, but end up underwhelmed with details being left unresolved.
Sigh. I’m happy with learning about Poppy’s origins, but we’re left to imagine how everything else resolved after the discovery. Is that what cozy mysteries do? Just present these stories and you’re left to imagine the happily ever after based on what is morally and ethically correct? Does Poppy ever tell Benedict she can see ghosts? Is he okay with it if she did? How do they navigate the changes to their lives once all is revealed about who Poppy’s father was? What do you mean the money in Benedict’s family was with his mother when it was his father’s family who had the title? It was mentioned early in the series that the estate was struggling, so was it Evelyn’s money that saved the estate? I’m so confused. What about Poppy’s adoptive parents, do they like Valerie? Do they all move onto the estate? When did Poppy’s parents become American? The first book may not explicitly state it, but it seemed clear to me they were from the UK and then moved to Seattle when Poppy was 8 and “moved back” to the UK when Poppy finished high school. How does that make her parents American? I wouldn’t think they would place a child born in the UK with foreign adopters? Just a lot of sloppy details presented throughout and too much is left hanging.
I knew who her father was from the moment he was mentioned in book one. But, I found the ending to be a little underwhelming. Benedict’s mother had done all of this because she didn’t like that the rightful heir was a Commoner? Seriously?! I kinda understand the killing 25 years prior, to get the title initially, and the being cold to Poppy once she showed up and she looked just so darn much like her mother. But it just seems a little much for her to kill two additional people, one of whom was her husband, just to keep the title in her family. Especially if Poppy and Benedict get together! Because then the title would stay in the family!!!
Also, side note, I’m sad that we don’t get to find out what’s going to happen to the ghost in the cottage if/when Poppy and Benedict get together and Poppy moves into the main house.

My issue throughout the whole series has been that Poppy is written as a women in her mid-30s not a 25 year-old. It makes the whole thing hard to swallow but I thought the conclusion to the story would help reconcile that. Unfortunately, the love interest and “soulmate”, Benedict, ended up being her cousin and everyone is just fine with it. It’s creepy and gross.

Fina!ly! I Stuck with the series, even though I was frustrated at the end of the last book. But Whisk and Reward tied up all the loose ends. Nancy Warren creates characters that are so believable that they become friends.
How good was Whisk and Release! What an incredible ending! I have nothing but praise and admiration for how well Nancy Warren has managed to put all the puzzle pieces together so beautifully!
Loyal readers will certainly be pleased to see that they no longer have to hunger for answers! I thoroughly enjoyed it and it is with a heavy heart that I finished this 9th book! Because for me this series can go on for many books longer! I really enjoyed the loving and captivating characters and the wonderful places where this series took me. The people and places in this series that feel so familiar now. I'm sure many can agree with me on this!
The greatest thing about this series, which I have enjoyed the most, is the mystery within the mystery. Poppy's quest, which was perfectly woven into every book like a red thread, made me glued to each book as if a magical force was taking over. That is one of Nancy Warren’s big talent, to captivate the reader with her in detail created wonderful stories filled with mystery and depth, and to make her books feel as good as a warm baked scone and a nice warm cup of tea. Loved it 🥰
Whisk and Reward (The Great Witches Baking Show Book 9) is a lovely finish to this series by Nancy Warren. Questions are answered to my satisfaction as well as to Poppy’s. Like Poppy there were some reveals that took me by surprise. Friends were there to support each other in the bake off. Others showed their true selfish colors. Perhaps the biggest shocker was the guilty one. I have not seen that person as a threat until serious desperation motivated in their actions.
I highly recommend taking this journey of discovery with Poppy. Looking to understand her past was important to her. As I read the books it became important to me too. For a wonderful read start at the beginning of The Great Witches Baking Show Series. Whisk and Reward is absolutely the icing on the cake.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Whisk and Reward is the final book in the fabulous ‘Great Witches Baking Show’ series. I seriously recommend that these books are read in order as they follow on from each other.
After an eventful few months it is the finale of the baking show and a winner will be announced. For Poppy this is only one of the things she wants to know the answer to. A funeral, a murder, surprises, answers and more questions .. it’s not an easy weekend for anyone.
This book has all the favourite Baking Show characters as well as few returning ones. As always it is entertaining and easy to read. Whether or not Poppy gets the answers she is looking for .. that’s for me to know and you to find out by reading this book. No spoilers but it is very good and there are still a few secrets and surprises to be had. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and series and definitely recommend it to all paranormal and cozy mystery fans.
"Nothing is more important to a witch than another witch in need."
And the circle is widening enough that Poppy Goodrich is settled and ready to focus on the mysterious secrets that have been her life and possibly her future won't have conflict in it
It's the finale of the Great British Baking show and it's down to Florence and Hamish. Who's going to win? And how are their lives going to change: for better or for worse.
Will Poppy's connection to Broomewolde be reveal? Will she have a future with Benedict? Will Gerry ever get to finally pass over? And just who is this blonde woman and what are the connections she has to all this?
I will miss these characters and wonder how things will be for them in the future. Thank you Nancy for many hours of enjoyment. Highly recommended 5/5
[Disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily chose to read and review it]
The last book in the series and all of the loose ends have been tied up - many of them quite successfully. I enjoyed this series a lot and hated for it to end.

💕 Positives: * Loved the ending. Very action packed yet perfect.
* I'm so glad that my favorite contestant won the baking competition.
* Finally, all of the mysteries are solved.
🚫 Negatives: * Why in the world did she think it was acceptable to bring her cat to a funeral? That's a huge pet peeve of mine.
* The 3rd cousins thing was a bit strange, but come to find out, it's fairly normal for 3rd through 7th cousins.
⚡Trigger Warning: None
🌟 Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was great to finally have closure on all of the mysteries and Poppy finally found out who her mom is. The baking competition was great to watch and it's a plus that my favorite contestant win. It's a perfect end to the series.
Florence went off the deep end in this book and I'm glad. Finally her actions match the level of ire against her. A little upset she didn't get an ending though. Poppy never went over and said anything to her after the last episode. Now that the main series is done (there's a bonus Christmas book), I still think the magical element was unnecessary. It never felt strong enough or fully fleshed out. Just kind of seemed shoe-horned in. And the overall mystery felt a little obvious about 4 or 5 books ago. This book was fine, the series was fine. It could have been better. Loved the narrator though, what a soothing voice.
A grand finale for this great series that answers our questions along with adding more twists and turns as Poppy comes into her own professionally and personally. Poppy is such a kind and decent person who wants the best for everyone around her. And while she is strong by herself, is even stronger when allied with those who love her. Such a great reminder that we may face obstacles alone but the journey is easier when shared with loved ones. Although it was my pleasure to receive this ARC from the author, it was completely my choice to share my honest review.
This was a great finale to a wonderful series. Poppy finally gets everything she has been hoping for since we met her in the first book. And, we finally learn who is the best baker of the group we have come to know so well.
The author has created a great cast of characters and I will be sorry to leave them behind. The book is full of twists, dead bodies, witches and familiars, and baking! There is plenty of emotion throughout the book and the ending neatly wrapped up all the storylines in a most satisfying way. Thanks, Ms. Warren, for a fantastic ending to a great series!
THANK YOU! This is the detective work I wanted to see in the previous volume. This had everything I loved about the series and especially about Poppy. Nancy Warren's paranormal cozy mystery series are incredibly delightful and easy to fly through. I love them and are my go to audiobooks when I am working or solving puzzles. Whisk and Reward closes out the contest and Poppy's search for the birth parents. I would have honestly liked to have more of the search in previous novels as this felt a bit rushed towards the end and it had a too much info dumping in certain chapters. Still, the series closed nicely and, although I would love to visit Poppy every now and then, I won't be upset if this is the final book in this series.
