I loved the fun new adult voice in this spicy shifter paranormal romance. Paige is the daughter of the Alpha of the Onyx Moon pack and has experienced heartbreak with her boyfriend cheating. The Alpha of the Aurora Flame pack, Colin, who at twenty, has just taken over his pack, invites her family over for a barbecue, and Colin and Paige meet for the first time, where their wolves realize they are mates. But is Paige ready to be a Luna (wife of the Alpha) or does she still have doubts about Colin? I love werewolf romances, especially new adult werewolf romances, and I liked the fun vibe of this book, the drama with betrayals, backstabbing pack politics and rogue wolf attacks. The plot packed a lot in… witches… battles… rogues… and those steamy scenes between Paige and Colin were scorching! I’m glad to see this is going to be a series!

I delve into paranormal romance when the mood suits, and I enjoyed Onyx Flame very much. The main character, Paige, is cheated on by her partner. Early in the novel, she struggles between feelings of betrayal and love (or the remnants thereof) for her former partner. I remember feeling just like Paige when I was in my early 20s. Over time, I learned that any partner worth my time and attention would treat me much better. Paige negotiates her need to protect herself with her attraction to someone new. Many readers will understand Paige’s journey. Although this novel centers on shifters, I appreciated the human elements the most.

too much

There was about 6 different point of views throughout the book, there was no surprise or anything. It felt rushed and completely forced.

Heartbroken and betrayed Paige wants nothing to do with love, however fate has its own plan. She finds herself ‘mated’ to Colin, the newly appointed Alpha of a neighboring pack. Her inner wolf urges her to accept her mate, but nothing about Paige fits into the role of Luna. Where Lunas have been docile and happy to follow the word of her Alpha, Paige is a fighter and outspoken. Not to mention, both packs are facing a rogue problem and the culprit might be someone closer than any of them ever thought imaginable.

I enjoyed the story a lot, however there were some situations that felt too sudden like Kat who could have had a more hinted at/gradual introduction. The ending felt a tad rushed but considering the action peak, that might have been intended.

All in all, I liked Paige, rooted for her and Colin despite the growing issues between them as they adjusted to their new roles as Alpha and future Luna. Supernatural stories have always been a favorite of mine and this one fit right in.

Hard won HEA

This story was a wonderful tale of how shifters have two sides to reconcile. The wolves may bond and love at first site but there is a human side too that may take more time. The angst in this story was just enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. This was a great read for me.

I loved this book!!! I mean who doesn’t love an Alpha! This book is well written, and I loved the characters. The MMC is so sweet and caring and thoughtful when it came to his newly turned 18 mate. She had her heart broken and wasn’t sure if she could trust let alone love again. It’s a great story and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and more by Morgan Elliot.

story was good

Just need to do a little more editing. Grammar, tenses, gender errors.
Story itself was mesmerizing and enchanting. Will read the second

A fresh take on werewolves

Shifter romance isn’t my preferred genre, but Morgan Elliot’s werewolves are different enough from the stereotype to be interesting. The plot was rich with twists and turns and the pacing was good. The world building was a bit thin, but the story was good enough for me to try the next book in the series. A quick and enjoyable read.

Onyx Flame by Morgan Elliott is a beautiful story with a supernatural theme. This is about the destiny of a soon to be alpha of a wolf pack and the daughter from another pack. We are introduced to a number of characters, some of which get to tell their side of events. The characters that we read about are not pure humans - they have the ability to communicate with their inner wolf and mind link with each other. They morph into wolf form when the need arises.

Paige is a strong-willed young female that does not embody the attributes of an alpha's mate. When she meets Colin for the first time, she is fearful of having her heart-broken again and believes she is not equipped to be a luna. The mate bond between Colin and herself is undeniably strong. Can Paige trust Colin with her heart? The book promises steamy romance amongst the characters but aside from that, there are major obstacles thrusted upon the wolf packs.

A great book for romance fans that like something out of the ordinary. This would appeal to young adults over 18 and most older age groups.

I seriously enjoyed the hell out of this book!
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 stars for me!

Sometimes I had a hard time with Paige and how quickly she ran from situations versus talking them out. I get she got cheated on once and that sucks but sometimes I feel like she acted out like more then that had happened, when Colin never did anything when she first met him. But she grew and he grew and I really liked the story!

Readers of Paranormal Romance, and in particular, shifter books will enjoy this tale. Elliott has made strides to ensure the toxicity of a lot of the "Alpha" male stereotypes in PNR Shifter books didn't seep into her debut novel. Paige is our main character. She's flawed, coming into her own, powerful, and more than capable of holding her own, and protecting others.

Destiny and fate play key roles in Onyx Flame. Mates are instantly recognized by the wolves inside the human, and once discovered, are identified by a specific scent that is undeniably enticing to their other half. Roles within the pack are the typical alpha, beta, omega structure, but I personally found it refreshing how often those who held these positions broke away from their 'place' within the pack.

There are several rather steamy scenes! So those who love a little spice with their shifter tales will enjoy these bits - and the main relationship endures several ups and downs with trust issues the underlying hurt between the two main characters, Paige, and Colin.

The novel is told from several different viewpoints, and each wolf is two different entities - their human selves and their wolf spirit - both with different names. Make sure you pay attention to the connections and names. Although this meant there were lots of individuals to keep track of, it was interesting to watch the dynamics play out between the human character and their wolf spirit. They were not carbon copies of each other. In fact, the wolf spirit was often quite different.
Sinister plots were afoot as well, and I often found these aspects of the story to be packed full of drama, tension, and strife, keeping me flipping the pages.

I know Elliott is working on book two. It will be interesting to see where she takes the pack!

Reading Onyx Flame gave me serious nostalgia. It reminds me of all those shifter romances I used to devour and covet on Wattpad when I was in high school and early college. This book had all the drama, angst, betrayal, and relationship ups and downs that I used to binge-read. There was a great balance of spiciness, supernatural background information, and plot twists to keep the pages turning! The character development in this book was amazing, though; the main characters, and even the side characters, grew so much from the beginning of the book. Paige was one of those heroines I didn’t like at the beginning, but she definitely grew into her character and came out as the true MC in this book at the end.

Wolves and evil plots

Colin takes his pack to the 18th birthday party of the children of a fellow alpha and meets his mate, the alpha's daughter. To say they have a complicated relationship is an understatement. Add on rogues attacking, his father being evil, and his brother being a traitor and life is not easy. But there are good things to come.

Very good plot. Enjoyed the characters and the development they went through. I found the whole story intriguing.

Paige is my Spirit Animal 🖤

Let’s start with the important parts. This book is a paranormal shifter romance with spicy bits and multi-POV. A few trigger warnings. Please consider that prior to reading. One chapter specifically, and I respect the author tremendously for letting you know prior to reading it. It tells you below the chapter number “trigger warnings.” So in hindsight you can skip that.

Now let’s move forward. You’re going to meet a few people. I would say the main characters are Paige and Colin. Paige is a feisty wolf who turns 18. She is tough and doesn’t back down. I love her. Colin is an Alpha who belongs to another pack, and is 2 years older. They meet and discover they are mates. Paige makes the decision to follow Colin to his pack and work on getting to know him. Because she doesn’t want to just jump feet first because the Moon Goddess paired them. But fate can be tricky, and these two have obstacles ahead.

Side characters include James, Peyton, Nolan, and Nicole. All POVs you will encounter. All crucial to the story. James is someone at first you want to dislike. But I actually enjoyed seeing things from his perspective and understanding his reasoning behind some of his actions. It made me dislike him less and less, until I actually was rooting for him. Nolan and Nicole, I don’t want to spoil, but have a story of their own kind of in the background. So following them, while not the main characters, was still part of this book’s story. Peyton is Paige’s twin who has his own issues along the way. Also, played a role in the way things turned out so it was nice to see his view.

Overall, the book is well written. Plot driven. Spice when needed, meaning it’s not smut every other page. The multi-POV with more than just the “main characters” I honestly felt like added to the story. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the genre. And even if you don’t, you should check it out.

Happy Reading Ya’ll! 🖤

Okay

This was a quick read. A blurb on Facebook led me to it. I decided to give a go. All around, it was a decent story, although it did have an old-fashioned tone to it that was both intriguing and embarrassing. Paige is temperamental, judgmental, a hothead, and so juvenile. Colin is okay, more a love sick fool than bad@ss alpha. He was okay til "the misunderstanding", but that part was glossed over and just smoothed away, which made me start doubting that I read the scene correctly.

Overall, I did actually enjoy the story, even though the end bounced around everywhere and then the book just ended without any fanfare. It was just over the top with multiple" big bads" and perhaps I'm too jaded to appreciate it for the sweet first love vibe it puts out. It was a nice escape for a couple of hours, and I appreciate that.

Onyx Flame is an engaging paranormal shifter romance with plenty of action, intrigue, and explicit sex scenes. When we meet Paige, high schooler and daughter of the alpha of her small pack, she has been cheated on by her boyfriend. He added insult to injury by choosing Paige's "frenemie" as a lover. But in Paige's world, wolves know their mate's upon their first meeting, so she had every reason to believe that her boyfriend had not been "the one." But then Paige meets Colin and instantly knows he is her mate. But after having been betrayed, she is nervous; can she trust that Colin will not hurt her? Compounding her anxiety are the rumors she has heard about Colin's father, who reportedly cheats on his own mate. Does Colin take after his father? This was a thoroughly enjoyable read!

DNF at 23%. The childish actions of the main characters and the switching of POV’s to characters that hadn’t really even been introduced or named made it extremely hard to follow. I was going back and forth in the book trying to figure out who the characters were talking about.

Great story!
I really enjoy this story. I accidentally read the second book first, totally fine they work as stand alone but it was nice to go and read about these two characters and how they got together.

Whoever wrote the book blurb didn’t read the book! The writing was poor, the storyline was weak and predictable and character development was disappointing.
