Hi! I'm Laurel, I love all things fantasy, magic, and sci-fi, so you may find that my books have surprising twists that you didn't see coming.
I'm an avid traveller and adventurer, and I find my travels inspire stories I want to write! I have an amazing daughter and we currently live in the shadows of the Smoky Mountains. I love a good craft cocktail, sunny beaches and snowy slopes, and a cozy chair with a nearby fireplace for the perfect read.
Wow! This is a great second book! Filled with twists and turns, humour, romance, drama and mystery this keeps you on your toes or the edge of your seat! Great storyline, great characters all in a fascinating world built by this author! Can’t wait to read book 3!
Emily and Todd's mating has resulted in unpredicted events. On the one hand Emily has developed what Luch calls "super powers", while at the other she's suspecting she's pregnant. In an attempt to sort things out, Mick and Lucy with Emily and Todd travel once again to Austria to consult with the queen and the vimpiri scientists. If Emily's pregnancy is real, then a whole new era starts for the vimpiri. Right? Not quite. Even in the vimpiri society, political intrigue has infiltrated and there are those who oppose the mating between vimpiris and humans. A purity war threatens to break out, especially when a celestial body that might be a long lost vimpiri spaceship allegedly carrying the females left behind when they fled their planet has been spotted in the galaxy. Thus, the queen has forbidden Mick to proceed with mating with Lucy.
But can someone truly stop two fated mates from coming together? Mick is keeping secrets, and they threaten his relationship with Lucy. When they finally come out in the open, it's perfectly clear that they are true mates. But will they be allowed to act on it? This second installment of Mortal Heat is just as a wonderful read as the Midnight Sun. Sweet, emotional, full of intrigue and mindblowing plot twists.
I highly recommend this book. And if by any chance you haven't read the first one, grab them both and binge read them. Personally, I can't wait for the next installment!!!
Laurel Night’s „Purity Wars“ (The Mortal Heat Series Vol.2) focus on Lucy and Mick, who after the events of the first book (“Midnight Sun”), which I will not discuss here to avoid spoilers, are confident that their own relationship could really work.
Lucy and Emily have been BBF since ever (and maybe a little longer 😊), so as Emily suffers from some unexpected side effects after her bonding with Todd, both couples go back to Austria to discuss the possible repercussions and so they also have the opportunity to meet other members of the family and learn about their peculiarities. The story is intriguing, with unexpected twist, funny moments, whimsical scenes and compelling characters. A real page-turner, that keeps the reader on the brink of expectation at all times. Love to see how the story continues in Book 3.
Laurel Night has created a vampire/science-fiction hybrid that is fresh and funny, her writing style is very appealing, with a great choice of locations. An enjoyable lecture for both young adults and more mature readers.
Now that her friend has her beau, our heroine wants hers as well, but her man is surprisingly reluctant. What is up with that?
This is book two of the series. The book stands pretty well on its own, but I think it would be more enjoyable if read in order so that you understand all the background. The important parts are all covered here, but the devil is in the details.
This is an intriguing mix of paranormal romance with a bit of SF thrown in. On the one hand, all paranormal stories fall under science fiction, but this one has a bit more than most and it makes for a very intriguing difference.
The story is well written and easy to read, with an engaging plot line that blends action, romance and a nice dose of humor. The characters are well developed and fun and we get to see the relationships develop in the book. Overall, a very fun read and I continue to look forward to the next book.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.
The world of the Vimpiri was shaken on its foundation in this book. The numbers have declined that they are waiting for extinction of their race in spite of their longevity. Todd and Emily's mating has provided a possibility to survive but they have become a hybrid and has raised the issues that they are no longer vimpiri and bigotry is used as a tool and a villain steps up in this book which we didn't have in last book. Like the last book, this is an easy read. The devotion each couple has for each other is heartwarming (but we really need to work on communication guys! :) ) There is just enough drama to keep the reader entertained and I still consider this as a good book for young teens to adults.
Lucy and Mick are hopeful now that Emily and Todd’s pairing was a success. After leaving a movie Lucy and Emily are attacked and Emily subdues their attacker. Stunned by what happens they test Emily’s new found abilities. Lucy, Mick, Emily and Todd head back to Austria for testing on Emily. The results of the tests are insightful and hopefully they can clear the way for more Lost Bachelors to pair with a human they have feelings for. This book has deception, conspiracy and romance. I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens. A really fascinating read.
Purity War is Book 2 in the Mortal Heat series by Laurel Night. Like Book 1, Midnight Sun, Purity War is well written and the character development is excellent and the characters are interesting and believable. The storyline is a unique take on vampires and their world is fascinating. This book is more about Lucy and Mick. Will they be able to mate? Looking forward to the next book to see where and what Laurel has in store for these individuals. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Wow I thought that book 1 to this series was fantastic but this one blows it out of the park. Emily and Todd are now a vampire couple but Lucy and Mick are not having it easy Lucy has offered her neck to Mick but he knocks her back and on top of that Emily believes that she is pregnant so they all travel to Austria to see the Vampire Queen but she says no to Lucy’s and Mick’s relationship but there is worse trouble on the way. Ooh I can’t wait to read book 3 this story is so exciting it’s amazing and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
I was given this book free via storyorigin and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The second book finds Mick , Lucy , Todd and Em coming to terms with their relationships and facing up to their Vampiri families. However not everyone is happy that the Lost Bachelors are bonding with humans and animosity ensues. I just love this series so much the story is unique and the characters are strong. I am going to join KU so I can get book 3 and I am hoping Laurel Night releases them on audiobook too.
Wow, I didn't expect some of the stuff that is happening. If I was Lucy, I would have just knocked Mick upside his head. And Supergirl Em is just going through some crazy stuff as well. I would definitely read first book to know the background but can read on it's own. Still You better get the first book since it's available. Thank you Mrs. Laurel for the great story. Can't wait for the next book.
An alien boyfriend.....what had she gotten herself into?
Lucy and Emily continue on their new boyfriend venture with aliens. Things are bound to get complicated, and seeing if they can handle it, will surely be the next step, before Lucky and Mick both agree to mate. The background of the setting of Mick's people, and then going back and forth to their other lives, changes the dynamics of their personal relationship, that has now become political as well.
This book picks up a little while after book 1 ends. Wow does the plot thicken! Lucy and Em go through so much in this book, especially Em. There was a time or two i wanted to shake some sense into Mick though. There was intrigue from the start and it carries through to almost the end. All in all it was a great continuation of book one. I finished it in a day so it kept me turning pages for sure.
Purity War: A New Adult Urban Fantasy by Laurel Night is an awesome story that I have read. This is book number two out of three in this awesome series and I can not wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romance.

This book was just as exciting as the first book. I was so glad that Mick and Lucy could finally get together ,but was disappointed when they didn’t do it yet. I hope book 3 will be just as exciting and Mick and Lucy finally will be together and the baby Em and Todd are having will be fine. This has been a joy to read.
I love the character and world development that continues with the second book of the Mortal Heat series! There’s some surprising twists and an interesting plot around human and vimpiri pairing. I can’t wait to see the conclusion to Mick and Lucy’s story in the next book!
Thank you to the author for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book, it is an excellent addition to this series. The book was well written and the characters and story were both well developed. I loved the continuation of the characters with their individual personalities. I enjoyed seeing the dynamics between them evolve and grow. The story was excellent. It had suspense, hot chemistry, emotion, intrigue, romance and lots of twists and turns. I look forward to the next book!! I’d highly recommend this book!!

This continues to be a great series. Mick and Lucy were having some troubles relationship wise, there were a lot of feels. When there is uncertainty about the relationship written into the plot well, I get anxiety for the characters. I had that in spades here. There was some interesting political aspects going on, as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
This is the second book in this series and the momentum is still going. Em & Todd have established their relationship with some surprising results. Mick & Lulu have not taken the final step yet as there has been a few hurdles. I am loving this series as it is a different view on vampires and the world or race building is interesting. Look forward to the next book.
Ohhh the drama! We pick right back up from book 1. Emily and Todd figuring out their new forms and making the trip back to Austria. Lucy in the limbo with Mick, his mother trying to keep the peace but also wanting to see her son happy and mated. Conspiractors trying to stop human and vimpiri mating. I literally could not put this down and wanting to drive into book 3!
The adventures of Lucy and Emily continue! This book takes off with so many surprises it's hard to choose my favorite part. Just enough humor and romance to shake up the drama, and enough mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat. Loved it, can't wait for Book 3!
The plot thickens as Emily and her vampire mate bond with surprising results and Mick and Lucy have their own struggles now as this emerges. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
This series is quite original. It shows vampires in a different light. I am definitely a fan of this series. I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

This is a great series. It’s a slow burn romance but the drama is mostly external to the relationship. Strong main characters. Mostly well edited. I have already started on the third book. I have found it difficult to put down. My thanks to the author for a great series.
The first book in this series, Midnight Sun, was mostly about Emily and Lucy. How they met, the things they did together, work and meeting Mick and Todd. Emily and Todd have a romantic relationship and Lucy likes Mick, the problems begin when Lucy begins to think that Todd is a Vampire. Purity War is mostly about Lucy and Mick, how their relationship continues, getting to know the men’s family and that they are a very different type of Alien Vampire. As soon as I started reading I couldn’t stop, the books are really well written and very easy to read. The main characters are interesting and believable and just when I thought I had everything worked out the author would head off in a totally different direction, her portrayal of Vampires is unique and their world is amazing. I voluntarily reviewed this book and I’d recommend it to teens and adults, it’s been an enjoyable and unique series and I can’t wait to read the next book.
ONE INSANE ROLLERCOASTER RIDE!!! Outstanding! Laurel unleashes one impressive and unique approach with this sensational, enthralling, tantalizing, engaging, page flipping bombshell, bursting this little fella wide open. A tumultuous wild ride with a bevy of unexpected events and vexing circumstances, catapults those swirling emotions into play front and center. Bumbling through the trials and tribulations, witnessing the struggles and hardships our characters endure, along with a slew of shocking twists and unexpected turns, tempting our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. Blazing a path, seizing the reigns and running the show, throwing this little fella into a tailspin for one unforgettable culmination. Exhibiting incredible, well rounded scenario's, ramping up the exuberance and adrenaline with such intensity and precision, blasting this gem to life spectacularly. The attraction and chemistry sizzles from the pages, alluring and mesmerizing, binding them together perfectly. The characters are authentic and genuine with depth and qualities that blend into amazing personalities. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Fantastic job Laurel, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
This is book 2 of the Mortal Heat series. I loved book 1 and was not disappointed by book 2. This is a well written book and the characters are well developed. The storyline has kept my interest throughout and I’m looking forward to the next book. I recommend reading.
