This is a delightful contemporary romance featuring Leonard Lupine who is more used to starring in his hit television series as D.I. Fierce than being able to live life as he wishes. He’s been encouraged by his agent and the show to act like his arrogant, obnoxious, opinionated character when out and about, even though this is nothing like his innate manner. He’s fed up of not having regular access to his two sons, his ex-wife’s manipulations and D.I. Fierce. When the opportunity arises for his to stay in a luxury villa, away from the fans and crowds, in Croatia, he can’t resist jumping at the opportunity, especially as his sons will come with him. What he hadn’t counted on was the person in charge of arranging everything being Izzy, an attractive single Mum who is definitely not star struck!

The story is told from different points of view – mainly those of Izzy and Leonard, though other key characters also get their turn, too – and the boys have some key roles, too. The story shared the negative aspects of stardom, including being followed by fans and paparazzi, trial by media, playing a part and feelings of not being able to always be true to yourself. It has a delightful community at its heart, with new friendships, betrayals, dilemmas and more than one romance. It is a heartwarming read set in an idyllic location and I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into it.

Thank you to Readers First for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

What could be better than to be by the sea, the beaches with “long swathes of golden looking pebbles”, a glass of chilled wine, freshly baked “burek”, and the shimmer of the evening ahead of you - on holiday on the lovely Croatian island of Brac.

Or so it seems to actor Leonard Lupine, divorced father of two young boys, who, despite a successful and lucrative T.V. career as Detective D.I. Fierce, is finding his sad and lonely lifestyle is finally catching up with him.

The holiday in Croatia, as expected, brings joy and wonder into Leo’s life - gorgeous scenery, food, excursions and the breathtaking views from their cliffside villa - what he is not expecting, however, is the lovely tour guide, Isabella, who will change his life, and the life of his sons, forever.

“He smiled at his sons and realized no matter what he was missing from his life, here and now he was happy.”

Perfect summertime reading, this sweet and wistful book touched all the right spots for me, from the understated charm of the main characters, to the lovely exotic setting and the gentle pacing, followed by the thrills, mis-steps and magic of an unexpected whirlwind romance.

I read it with delight, the ultimate feel-good experience on an otherwise ho-hum day.

And just like Leo, here and now, I was happy.

A great big thank you to the author and the publisher for an advance review copy of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.

I wanted to absolutely love this book when I read the blurb and saw the cover....and I did!

Not only does this book have a beautiful romance (Leonard and Isabella) it has plenty of twists and turns and things to keep the reader on their toes!

The way that Joy writes the book makes the settings and everything that happens in the book seem so vivid in the readers imagination , it is like you are there with them , this is one of the things I love about it, the depth of the book and the characters it is an amazing read and if you enjoy contemporary romance with great characters to love , ups and downs, twists and turns... then this will be right up your street!

I can't wait to read more from Joy !

"Clueless in Croatia" by Joy Skye is a whirlwind of fiery romance, a travel enthusiast's guide to all things Croatia, bad exes, and a whole lot of drama.

Leonard Lupine is losing his passion for acting and stardom. Between starring in a lead role in a detective series he no longer wants to participate in and a pop-star ex-wife who has time for no one except her glamorous lifestyle, Leonard needs a break. Thinking a mini vacation is what he needs to jump back into things, his agent books him a trip to a tiny island named Brac in Croatia.

The longer Leonard stays in Croatia, the more obvious it is that something about the country and its people will irrevocably change him.

"Clueless in Croatia" is split between the perspective of Leonard and his tour guide, both of whom feel stuck in a never-ending routine despite wanting more out of life. Skye does an incredible job forming a connection between the unlikely duo, allowing audiences to understand why the two are a good match for one another. The romance wasn't rushed (though some scenes felt a little sudden) which made the act of falling in love feel genuine and realistic.

What I enjoyed about this novel was the fact it wasn't purely about two people falling for one another. Skye delved into the issues of stardom that involve having no privacy, being followed by fans and paparazzi, along with a loss of drive and excitement in one's career. There were many moments of humor between the characters which kept the story light and warm. Not to mention the many beautiful scenes dedicated to the stunning landscape of Croatia that set up the perfect romantic backdrop.

This cozy romance novel is a must-read for those who enjoy a bit of humor and drama mixed in with gorgeous depictions of the Croatian landscape and its culture. "Clueless in Croatia" is out now and I highly recommend everyone purchase a copy!

Thank you to BookSirens for providing me with a free e-arc and the opportunity to share my honest opinion on the story in this review.

I’ve never been to Croatia, but after reading this it’s definitely on my list, and the sooner, the better. The author paints a wonderful picture of the island of Brac, showing how community-minded and family-oriented the people are. Sounds like the perfect place for a fabulous holiday.

As a successful TV actor with a gruff personality that he has been encouraged to adopt off screen as well as on, Leonard has become disenchanted by the industry and the demands it makes on his life. He never gets to see his two sons, his ex-wife being a major obstacle to that also. When the chance crops up of a week away from it all with his boys, he can’t wait to get away from it all and cast off the shackles of DI Fierce. It’s time to be a dad again, and his sons are so looking forward to it as well.

Isabella manages the villa where Leonard and his boys will be staying, and goes to great lengths to make sure everything is perfect for them. She has no idea who Leonard / DI Fierce is, but a quick google search shows her that the man might be best left to his own devices once she has done her job, especially since she has her own son to look after.

Of course, as romantic tropes go, they don’t hit it off immediately. Isy almost begrudges having to rescue Leonard from a few scrapes because he simply has ignored her advice, but for the sake of his adorable boys she is always on hand to put things right. Things can only get better, right?

Until they get dramatically worse and the romance that could have been looks like an impossible dream.

For me, Leonard’s two sons are the stars of this story. They’d love to spend more time with their dad; their mum is too caught up in her own life to really bother about them. When they meet Isy and her son, they see a chance for their dad to be happy again … and the little minxes go all out to encourage a romance for the adults. and who can blame them?

Well, the paparazzi for one, who can’t resist snapping photos of Leonard with Isy and splashing the news all across the papers and internet.

Is there a way back for them or will the holiday in Croatia forever be just a happy memory?

Clueless in Croatia makes for the perfect summer read, a stunning location with charming traditions, fabulous characters (the taxi driver is a star in the making), appetizing food, and the ups and downs of an unexpected romance.

This book will make you want to escape to Croatia. I loved the descriptions and the sense of place really pulled me in so this is another destination to add to my bucket list.

The characters are well developed and the dynamics between the two protagonists, Leonard and Isabella, is very well done. There are a limited number of tropes and this romantic tale pretty much ends as you would imagine but the enjoyment is in the getting there.

Leonard's two sons and Luca, Isabella's sons are the unsung heroes when it comes to minor characters, brilliantly observed and really add to the story.

A heady romance on far flung shores is just the escape I needed.

This was a really cute book that was easy to get lost in. The romance was a little predictable, but I still enjoyed reading about it. Leonard and Isy are the type of couple that you just can't help rooting for no matter how frustrating things get between them.

I really loved the writing style and how easy it was to picture everything as if I was actually in the book. The author does a great job at describing the views and different parts of the culture. This is the type of book that will make you want to stop what you're doing and immediately travel to Croatia.

I also thought the characters were well-written. Leonard was incredibly frustrating at times, but he had some redeeming moments throughout the book. The chemistry between Isy and Leonard was strong and quite evident from the very start. Leonard's sons were probably my favorite part of the book at times; they were so precious and held things together a few times.

A beautiful story with a very intriguing plot, and lots of ups and downs! Was completely hooked, Joy’s way of describing the various places and the emotions of the characters makes you feel like you’re there with them, much like in her first book. Highly recommend this book, be prepared to get whisked away to Croatia, and for a rollercoaster of emotions!

Leonard Lupine is an actor who lives a double life. His television persona is of a grumpy detective who lives in a mess while drinking too much. In reality he keeps his house immaculately, only occasionally drinking a little too much, and is happiest when strumming his guitar and writing love songs. When he takes a holiday as part of a publicity drive, he meets someone who makes a difference to everything. This is a romance novel that has much to say about old problems and new situations, celebrity culture and the reality behind assumptions. A lively story well told, it has much about the attractions of Croatia, and some of the realities of looking after children. The characters are well drawn, from the main players to the minor mentions, and there is a consistency in their behaviour. The dialogue throughout is lively and funny, and contributes to an enjoyable read. This is a contemporary romance with lots of twists and certainly does not follow a predictable path, especially given his contact with Isabella who knows little about his fame. This is a lively book which I enjoyed and found easy to read. I was pleased to have the opportunity to review it.

The book opens with a message from a company called Sublime Retreats to Angelica, Leonard’s agent, offering a cottage to any of her clients in return for publicity. Leonard is very fed up with his role in the very successful series, frustrated with not being able to have a private life. He was briefly married to a singer who is enjoying a publiclicy boost because of her latest relationship, which is one thing, but they had two sons. He knows that allowing his television persona to take over his private life is a costly bargain, that DI Fierce makes headlines for his awful behaviour, and Angelica is keen to prolong his notoriety. Meanwhile in Croatia, Isabella is a Local Concierge and single mother, a young British woman whose son Luka holds her in the area as her late partner’s parents help to look after him. She is completely unaware who Leonard is, but soon discovers his bad reputation . Meanwhile Leonard collects his sons, and begins to establish a good relationship with them. He begins to discover there is more to life than fame, acting and everything else. Isabella begins to get glimpses of the real Leonard, but too many other things begin to get in the way.

I found this to be an unusual and enjoyable story, with believable characters and well described setting. The cottage sounds delightful, and the writer has obviously had some experience of the countryside that the characters visit. It is a well thought through book with some interesting layers and twists. Isabella is not a typical young woman looking for romance, but a person with commitments who has a strong sense of responsibility. Leonard’s sons, Ben and Alex, are well portrayed as bright and talkative, and the author has a good ear for what children are capable of at those ages. I recommend this book for those who enjoy a complex story with more than a hint of romance.

The famous actor Leonard Lupine is tired of all the fame and attention he gets from the media. He loves his job but he lost himself in the process. He wants to quit, but his agent suggests holiday in Croatia. One week in a luxury villa with his two boys and away from the media and his ex wife, what could he want more?

Isabella loves her son, Luka. After his father died, she is settled with Luka in a gorgeous house with beautiful garden. She loves her life and she's so grateful for everything she has. Now, it's the end of the season and she has to serve the famous rude actor for one week. Could she manage to be polite in his presence?

Leonard had to act his whole life. Both on screen and in his private life. But little did anynone, especially Isabella, knew he is kind and respectful man that loves his two sons. But will Isabella be brave enough to climb the walls he built high up, or she is too afraid even after many years of Luka's father death?

This book is perfect summer romance. It doesn't have any plot twists, it's easy read, relaxing. The characters are ineresting and funny. I love how the author described Croatia. Because it's close to Macedonia, I was familiar with the places, the food and the language. It was enjoyable read.

The characters will teach the reader that familly is the most important thing in life. Yes, nice job and a lot of money is nice but the huge house is not worth it if it's empty, if it doesn't have the decoration called Love.

Loved this book.

I enjoyed reading about the relationship between Leonard and Isabella. It was so lovely and so well written. It didn’t feel forced or unnatural at all.

My favourite character is Jakov. What a guy! Everyone needs a friend like that in there corner.

Such a lovely thought provoking book and doesn’t everyone love a happy ending?

Never before have I read a book set in Croatia. I’ve seen some cooking shows placed there with amazing views and delicious food, but never a book taking place there. I may just need to add it to my bucket list of exotic places to visit!

Isabella is a concierge of sorts, planning a holiday for stars who choose to stay in a nearby villa. She makes all their arrangements from grocery shopping for the guests favorites to organizing the home-cooked meal and planning outings like horseback riding and boat rides to a remote beach. This latest guest, Leonard, and his two young sons is no different, or so she thought.

Leonard is a popular British actor who plays a detective investigator and at times keeps the persona tinker the press and paparazzi at bay. His agent decides to hook him and the boys up with a holiday at a villa in Croatia, where Isabella arranges their trip.

The two seem attracted to one another while trying to keep their distance. At least until Leonard’s sons decide to take things in their own hands and plan to spend more time with Isabella and her young son. Everyone gets along fantastically, as if they were a happy family. At least until Leonard’s agent sends a photographer his direction to get some photos. Except photos of Isabella end up in the tabloids and they spark blame at each other for using the other. Can this mess get sorted? Is their blooming relationship doomed?

Oh, how I love Isabella! She has the best job in the world! Well, it at least sounds glamorous, but I’m sure her guests can get snotty! Anyway, she seems to be the best concierge out there and is amazing with the kiddos as well! And she can cook? Man, also a bit jealous of her culinary skills here!

Leonard seems to be at a crossroads. He loves spending time with his boys, but seems restricted because of their bossy mother. Instead of remaining this popular actor, he really should go after what he loves, as a musician! I’m sure his fans will be more than surprised and surely continue loving him.

Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for access to Clueless in Croatia by Joy Skye. I give this title 5 our of 5 tiaras because of the push and pull between Isabella and Leonard. It’s like they want to see where this relationship goes and then they blow the other off. They are terribly clueless!

Leonard Lupine is a famous actor, DI Fierce is well known and loved for his grumpiness. But the character leaks into Leonard’s every day life and he finds himself fed up and wanting more. His agent persuades him to go on a free holiday and to take a break with his two young boys, so he sets off for a much needed rest in Croatia…..

Isy is a concierge working on the a small island in Croatia. Just as she thinks the season is coming to an end, she gets one more client booked in. And her clients can be demanding so she’s not looking forward to it. Leonard arrives and is less than pleasant and she thinks she’s in for a long week. But as they spend time together, she realises there might be more to him than first appears. Will they both get more than they bargained for? Or is the universe against them?

I thoroughly enjoyed this and found myself chuckling throughout. The plot is a classic will they/won’t they, and I found myself routing for them all the way through. I especially loved the fact that Leonard’s little boys get involved in the action and try to play cupid……

Isy is a brilliant character and I loved seeing her feelings developed, but I definitely wanted to give her a bit of slap towards the end and tell her to pull herself together! She is so loving though and the way she is with the kids is adorable. Leonard has two sides to him – one of which you will like, one you won’t! I absolutely adored Jakov….he’s an absolute legend! The kids are also fantastic, as is Isy’s best friend

The setting is glorious. I really want to visit Croatia now. It sounds absolutely beautiful and the food sounds amazing. The author has done a wonderful job of bringing the sights and sounds alive.

So….if you’re looking for a wonderful heartwarming romantic comedy that will make you chuckle, make you route for the characters and give you a beautiful setting, whilst taking you on a roller coaster ride then this is for you. I’m looking forward to reading more from Joy.

I thoroughly enjoyed Clueless in Croatia. The author developed the characters beautifully. You got to see how much Leo loved his boys and who he really was. You also got to see Isabella and her close relationship with her son and her late husband's family. The interactions between Leo and Isabella were delightful and the descriptions of the various locations in Croatia were so vivid that they made we want to visit. I couldn't put this book down until it was finished. This is the first book I have read by Joy Ske and I can't wait to read more of her work. I received a free copy of this book from Book Sirens for an honest review and thank them profusely for introducing me to this wonderful author.

I read the first chapter of Clueless in Croatia and had this immense, immediate hatred towards the character Leonard Lupine. He was arrogant, brash and rude! I didn’t think I could ever like this character enough to care about the story. However, it soon became clear that this is just the D.I. Fierce persona of the character Leonard plays on his tv show. His agent has convinced him that he would be nothing without Fierce and so needs to behave like the character all the time for publicity.

But Leonard is fed up with this way of life, so jumps at the chance to spend a week with his two sons in Croatia in return for taking photos for the host company Sublime Retreats. Over on the tiny island of Brač, Isabella lives with her son Luka and works as concierge for Sublime Retreats, helping guests with their every need. Isabella doesn’t know what to make of Leonard when she first meets him but it’s clear they are instantly drawn to each other. Leonard may not be akin to Fierce but he still has his faults and is certainly clueless!

I thought Clueless in Croatia was an enjoyable well paced story. Isabella and Leonard’s interactions were sweet and tentative as they tried to work out their feelings towards each other and I felt the plot was entertaining but yet still felt believable.

I thought this was going to be a soppy romance story, so went into it a bit reluctantly as sickening romance stories aren’t really my thing.
I was pleasantly surprised, however, to become absolutely hooked from the start by the relatable characters and the beautifully described settings of the storyline. I felt as if I was immersed in the book and the storyline with them and it felt great. I love when that happens! I totally consumed this book in the one sitting and then was sad I’d read it so fast and it was finished.
A beautifully written tale of drama, new found romance, heartbreak, and family.
I never wanted it to end! A fantastic read.
Thank you 😊

💞Good romance, fairly minor angst🙂

I love travel to far away places in my romance novels and really enjoyed this one set on the Croatian coast at the tail end of the tourist season. It's fairly short and mixes some sightseeing in with the romance. The leads are both single parents, one divorced and the other without a partner even before her son was born due to a tragic accident. The romance is sweet, pretty lightning fast, and their young kids are an integral part of it all. I especially fell for young Alexander, Leonard's oldest son, who took care of both his father and younger brother with such maturity for his age.

There's a bit of paparazzi interference and some miscommunication, just enough to stir the pot and create some drama. The end is happy promise of a contented future. I loved the helpful locals whose fandom for Leonard never waivers.

Leonard, the male lead, seems a nice guy and a good father but he does use drinking to cope rather too frequently. Hopefully, with a good woman he'll change.

This book is part of a standalone series that features different countries. I am definitely going to look for more by the author.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honestly opinion.

A great beach read
This is a lovely story set against the romantic backdrop of Brac, Croatia. Leonard’s life is shattering around him as his gruff TV alter ego bleeds into his reality, a suggested promotional vacation sounds like the perfect opportunity to escape from his life, the press, his ex’s new marriage and spend some quality time isolated with his two sons.
Little did he know the pull he felt toward Isabella, the villa concierge, would be undeniable. Their kids’ scheme, and their love blossoms until their bubble shatters.
It was gut wrenching watching these two pine with their hearts breaking when it all fell apart believing the other didn’t have the same feelings they did. Can their well-meaning friends help them towards their HEA?
I found the writing a little stilted to start but it relaxed (or I got used to it) as the storytelling gained momentum. There are some great characters in the book and these and the adventures and outings described, made flipping through the pages enjoyable as I worked towards the conclusion.
I enjoyed it and wouldn’t hesitate to seek out another in the series

A sweet romance - main characters are: Actor Leonard, and single mom Isabella. Leonard is off to vaca and get away from the demands of his demanding popularity due to his career. He takes his two young boys and while on vaca meets Isabella who has a young boy of her own. The sparks are instant for them both but Isabella is put off by Leonard's gruff ways. As the two are put in proximity time and again the chemistry ignites but Leonard's agent does not have his best interests at heart and puts a wrench in this budding romance. Will the quick found love these two have found with each other be enough to survive the storm of being a celeb or will the troubles they face be too much? Narration was okay but not great. Storyline flowed well and I loved the secondary characters so much in this read - they really brought out the best in our main characters.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

This is the second in the Sublime Retreats Romance series; I adored the first and I knew after a couple of pages that I would adore this one too.

There is something about this series which I can't quite put my finger on, but is just so special. They're a really easy, light-hearted romance series with the right amount of drama and great characters.

Leonard is a character you love to hate at the start with his constant hot and cold attitude but halfway through you can't help but love him. His sons however, were the cutest thing ever, and definitely not like real kids 😂

I was slightly worried in the last ten pages that I wasn't going to get the ending I hoped for but luckily Joy pulled it out of the bag!

I love little links between books and the 'city breaks' hint in this one is obviously going to lead onto the next book, Falling In Florence. Can I book a Sublime Retreats holiday please?

When an actor, who is forced to maintain his onscreen persona in his real life, finally lets down his guard and lets his real personality shine through, good things begin to happen. Will it all fall apart when others begin to meddle?

I enjoyed this romance by Joy Skye. I liked the storyline and the atypical locale. There were some sections that did seem a bit rushed.

Guy Barnes did a fine job with the narration. I had no issues with following along.

The story starts promising. Clever and funny. Unfortunately, it is not consistent throughout the story, and for me it started to feel a little melodramatic.
The narrator was okay, but I think I would have preferred a female narrator for this one.
