Is it possible to find gospel meaning in your "secular" career?
If you really love Jesus, shouldn't you quit your job and go into full-time ministry?
How does your everyday work have anything to do with God's mission in the world?
Many marketplace Christians have wrestled with these questions in their lives and in their work. But from entrepreneurs to assembly line workers, from high-paid execs to minimum-wage hospitality staff, more Christians are becoming overwhelmingly filled with renewed purpose as they realize that their work has a role in God's kingdom plan.
In Missional Marketplace, author Erik Cooper offers his perspective through personal stories and reflections on the sacredness of all work, framing the faith and work discussion through the lenses of The Great Story, The Great Commandment, and The Great Commission. This book will create a gospel-collision between your faith, your work, and the global mission of God in this world.
I love how the author explains that every place is our mission place. Business is not just secular work, but just another place to share the Gospel! So encouraging. You don’t have to be called into ministry to be doing ministry. Every Christian is called to do ministry wherever God has placed them.
Timeless truths here. A great challenge to see and do the Great Commandment every day, no matter where we are located. Definitely worth the time to be inspired and challenged to do and see “work” differently.
The first Christian business book I have read that has the gospel as its foundation. It paints an inspiring picture of the meaningfulness of everyday work for Christians. I would recommend this book to most anyone with a job, but especially for business owners or entrepreneurial minded people.
Erik does an excellent job of presenting Business as Missions in all it's forms. With pastoral and executive business leadership in his repertoire, he guided the reader through biblical understanding of the marketplace and it's place in our ministry and from God's view.
Woven throughout the book are examples of how business as missions is done throughout the world and how Erik has practiced this through his own business.
There are also elements of teaching at the beginning of the book on the sacred and secular divide that are foundational to a reader's dive into this topic.
If you've read a lot on the topic, you may jump ahead a bit into the book. For fun examples to wet your appetite, I suggest reading the 1-2 page example business as missions stories throughout the book first.
