Outback Roads: The Nanny

Rate this book
Determined never to trust a man again, Callie Young walks out of her job as a presenter on the weather channel, determined to take the first job that will get her out of the city and away from the Tik Tok video, #wrongforecast, that has kept the world amused. Meeting her new employer, the cranky and bossy owner of Kilcoy Station reinforces her belief that no man can be trusted, but to Callie’s dismay that doesn’t stop the growing attraction to this difficult man.

Braden is unimpressed with the glamorous woman the city employment agency sends in response to his desperate ad for a nanny. She’s never been out of the city, barely knows the difference between a bull and a milking cow, and drives a luxury sedan. But she makes him feel things he’d thought were gone for good. Will his sad past, and a guilty secret, protect his heart and ensure Braden denies his growing feelings for Callie?

When Callie Young was humiliated on national television, although she was cheered for her actions, she quit her job and applied for a job as a nanny far from Brisbane in the outback town of Augathella. Kilcoy Station was different from everything Callie had previously known – she was a complete city girl and wasn’t sure if she’d done the right thing. Meeting Braden and his three young sons, Rory, Nigel and Petie, she felt the three years she’d been working for the network fade away, and the teaching that was in her blood, return. Callie loved kids and these boys wouldn’t take long to take over her heart.

As the days turned into weeks, Braden and Callie rubbed along well, but the boys were her focus. When she and Braden sorted out the terms of her position, he also filled her in on the past. But Callie wasn’t sure if she could trust any man after what Greg had done to her…

Outback Roads: The Nanny is the 1st in The Augathella Girls series by Aussie author Annie Seaton and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Filled with excellent characters, the boys were adorable, the puppies and baby calf cute, and Callie’s naivety about the outback – while understandable – shook her. I’m looking forward to book 2 in the not-too-distant future. Highly recommended.

A short but entertaining read about Callie who turns her back on city life when her relationship breaks down, and accepts a job as a nanny on Kilroy Station in the outback of Australia. The fact that she attempts to drive there in her sports car on the dirt roads shows how unprepared she is for this new life.

Nevertheless she soon finds herself happy with a job as a part time teacher as well as falling in love with the three young boys she is there to help care for. She is not as happy to find herself very interested in Braden, the owner of the station and father to the boys.

It is an interesting and fun read which is really just an opener to a whole series about the Authagella girls. I look forward to the second book and finding out who we are going to meet next.

I do love a good story set in the outback with strong characters and this is a great one, set on a cattle station in the outback of Queensland we meet Callie Young a woman who has been hurt and is determined to go forward and Braden Cartwright owner of Kilcoy Station and his three young sons, do they find happiness after all they have been through?

Callie has just walked out on her job as weather presenter on national TV after being humiliated by the man she thought was her fiancé she is now known as the Tik Tok girl after the live video has gone viral and Callie wants out and to be as far away as possible when she takes a job of nanny in the outback there is no TV there but her first meeting does not go to plan and Callie is more than ever determined to wipe men from her life but the longer they are together the more her heart opens up to Baden and his beautiful boys.

Braden is shocked when he meets the new nanny and worried that he has jumped in to quickly to hire someone but he needs help with his three beautiful boys who have been through so much and Callie is a teacher as well, but the more time they are together and as he sees how much his son’s love her his heart is finally opening up again maybe to find love.

This is a lovely story that is filled with emotion that Annie Seaton knows how to write, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Callie, Braden and the boys, I loved the setting and their interaction throughout seeing them open up to each other was the best, this is a story that I would highly recommend and I am very much looking forward to book 2.

Outback Roads: The Nanny is book one in The Augathella Girls series by Annie Seaton. Callie Young needed a change after a disaster broke up, so she left her job and started a new career at Kilcoy Station as a nanny. The owner of Kilcoy Station, Braden Cartwright, was not impressed with Callie and her farming knowledge. However, the difference did not stop them from starting to feel for each other. The readers of Outback Roads will continue to follow Braden Cartwright and Callie Young to discover what happens.

Outback Roads is another fantastic rural romance book by Annie Seaton. I have read the Outback Road twice, engaged with the characters and story each time. I enjoy how Annie Seaton highlights the beautiful rural Australian life for her readers and me. I love Annie Seaton's portrayal of her characters and their interaction with each other throughout this book. Outback Roads was well written and researched by Annie Seaton. I like Annie Seaton's description of the Outback Roads settings, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

The readers of Outback Roads will learn about travelling through beautiful rural Queensland. Also, the readers of Outback Roads will learn about the consequences of domestic violence on everyone involved.

I recommend this book.

It was stuff your kindle day(s) recently and I picked up a lot of random shit and this was the first book my random picker selected for me😂 safe to say it wasn’t a winner.

If you know me you know I love a single parent romance so I was excited to give this one a try. It takes place in the Australian Outback with a city girl making her way to the countryside for the first time and I love a city girl/rancher man pairing as well so it had the recipe for enjoyment for me. However, I felt this book was all very superficial and felt more like a prelude/novella/prequel…nothing really happens.

Maybe this is partially my fault because I thought this was a self contained short novel, but at the end it says these characters story continues in book two but then book two’s blurb is all about l two new love interests so it is what I thought…different pairings for each installment so I’m not really sure how this H and h’s story will continue but it’s very much like not even begun lol so somehow it must. Basically by 50% it was feeling more like 15% in a traditional romance novel. We had like one longing look by 85% and by then there was no chance in hell for any relationship development to happen in this book so I was disappointed cause I wasn’t expecting this at all. As I said everything felt very superficial, I didn’t feel any real connection to any of the characters, there was no romantic tension or build up, the kids were kinda cute, but that was pretty much it.

I also didn’t like how they discussed the H’s late wife *very mild spoilers* they kept talking about how she “left” so for the longest time I thought she abandoned the family then when it was revealed she died I thought she committed suicide and they were being insensitive, but no she just died in an accident and the way it was discussed and details slowly disclosed (unsatisfactorily imo) was annoying. Maybe it’s just a difference in how Australians would talk about death? Idk. But I found a lot of the slang and terminology confusing af because Aussies really do be just have the most random ass words for everything and especially a specialized field like ranching there’s even weirder terms so I was just like nodding along and inferring my ass off before succumbing to googling shit lol.

Overall, I feel like this wasn’t well written. I wouldn’t really consider this a romance novel because the romance was nonexistent (one very unsexy boring kiss right at the end) and it was honestly pretty fucking boring. I did like the set up, the beginning was promising, but nothing delivered so all I can really say is that it was a really easy, quick read where nothing really happens 🤷🏼‍♀️

Short and sweet, Outback Roads: The Nanny is part one of The Augathella Girls by Annie Seaton.

After being humiliated on air, Callie Young is seeking refuge from the fallout and her cheating ex boyfriend. When an opportunity arises on the remote Kilcoy Station, Callie grabs it with both hands. Not entirely certain what her new position entails, Callie leaves her life in busy Brisbane and hits the road.

Finding herself a nanny to three little boys is a challenge in itself, but these brothers are still struggling two years after their Mum's death. Their Dad, Braden is busy managing the station and has just lost the emotional support from his younger sister. The Cartwright's are seeking help and it's Callie to the rescue!

I knew that there would be an eventful romance developing between Callie and Braden and watching it develop is partially hilarious and always endearing. Their first meeting really doesn't go to plan at all and there's some fair assumptions from the get go, but they get there in the end!

The interactions that Callie has with her three charges is bittersweet. The boys are still hurting and are convinced that Callie will leave them one day like their Mummy did 😢. She's ultra patient and caring to the boys throughout and is a wonderful listening ear to Braden. When the boys witnessed their Daddy kissing Miss Callie, my heart burst into little happy pieces. They want a Mummy and it looks like that they're going to get their wish!

Enjoyed meeting some of the characters that make up the series and am looking forward to cracking into book 2!

I’m maybe 3.5 stars.
I’m not a fan of cliffhangers.
There were some inconsistencies, but nothing major. The opening scenes in Brisbane were a bit far-fetched. I’d wished Callie had been a stronger woman and, say, negotiated to get her ex-fiancée fired. I think we’ll eventually see her transform into a strong woman, but it isn’t in book one.
I also feel like the sense of place present in, for example, the author’s Porter Sisters series, is lacking here. It is probably coming—just not much of it in book one.
On the plus side, the book is short and easy to read. I do want to read book two when it comes out. I’ve given three star ratings to other “book one in a series” where I have no interest in continuing.

I enjoyed Callie and Bray's story but I didn't realize this isn't really a stand alone book. I am not a fan of serials. I like stories with cross over characters, but not continuing ones.

Thanks Kindle Unlimited, you’ve done it again

Outback Roads: The Nanny follows our protagonist Callie who makes the drastic change of leaving her job as tv weather presenter to become a nanny for single dad Braden on his cattle station in outback Queensland.

I wish this was longer! I felt the storylines were rushed as it was such a short novel! i wish they were fleshed out and we got to follow the characters and the story develop more….

It felt like once we were in the thick of it … it was over!! I was enjoying it too much for it to end 😂

Definitely going to continue this series!

I wanted to love it so much because I love Australia and I'm a teacher and it seemed positive. But I felt like a hastily thrown together novella that lacked a proper timeline. Character growth was nonexistent and certain action felt forced and out of place. It was a weird vibe: cute and yet fell short

An OK escapist read, but formatting reveals it was dashed off. This might have earned more starts if the ending had been less rushed. If it had built to more climax. After little more than a storm, a gash from flying sheet of iron and a kiss, Callie makes a runner but changes her mind. She turns around for more kisses. Suddenly, the book is done without so much as a THE END. Instead, with nary a page turn we read a teaser UNTIL THE NEXT STORY. We read that two new arrivals at Kilcoy Station will join the presumably happy-ever-after couple. Meanwhile we barely got to know sister Sophie who will also return in the next segment to fall into the arms of faithful Kent.

Ms Seaton's prolific FaceBook promotion prompted me to check out her books. She is adept at PR. Indie authors can learn much from her.

A grate start to this interesting little series about life in the austrailian outback, this is a series about 8 women who are from or end up in a remote Austrailian outback town and the romances they end up in,

After being publicly humiliated by her fiance on TV Callie Young takes a job in the austrailian outback to get away from the city in order to recover from her humiliation to take a job as a nanny for Braydon Cartwrite. Braydon has just had his kids returned to him after living with his sister due to being unable to cope after his wifes deaf. This was a lovely little story and although I don't usually buy shorter books i'm glad i've invested in this series and am looking forward to more.

A wonderful start to a new series by the fantastic author Annie Seaton. Outback Roads The Nanny sees us learning about Braden and Callie and his three sons. There are so many characters mentioned that I can imagine in future books in this series. I look forward to learning their stories. In The Nanny, Callie accepts a job as a nanny on a very remote station to escape her life in the city. Such a wonderful leap of faith and a beautiful story. There are many layers to Callie, Braden and his sons. I am excited for book 2 to be released.

I KNOW this is the first in a series but I hate getting to the last page and finding the book I'm reading leaves me dangling with a need to immediately go to the next book to finish what I think should have been completed in book 1. I really enjoyed the book until the end. It may be clever marketing but it isn't something I appreciate. It did not endear me to the Augathella Girls and this is the first of Annie Seaton's series I have read that I don't feel the need to continue with. Most of Annie's series books I've loved, this left me feeling cheated.

Not a romance

This is not, in any way, a romance. This is a part of the story of how a scorned woman moved to the Australian outback to take care of kids.

(mild spoilers ahead)

They only meet for the first time at around 40%
The only conversation between them is the quick one determining her duties (except for the really short one at 99%).
The first time either thinks the other is hot is at 75%.
There is only one kiss at 90%. And another at 99%.

ZERO romance plot. ZERO chemistry.

There's a second star for the non romance plot

I was so excited to get started with this new series and I loved the new location, new characters and this entire book! I love Callie and Braden, as well as Braden's boys, and I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series. The possibilities are endless in this new environment and I'm fascinated with the Outback area - it's so different from where I live, which makes it more exciting to read and immerse myself in.

I couldn't wait to dive into this series based on all the positive reviews, but it was a letdown. For some unknown reason, the writing didn't quite capture my interest. The characters’ lack of emotion made it hard to feel connected to them, and I quickly lost interest. The book left me feeling unsatisfied, with too many unanswered questions. I expect books to finish with an ending, and this book failed to give me that which left me feeling even more disappointed.

After being embarrassed on camera on the weather station, Callie escapes to the outback to take a job as a nanny. Unknown to her, it is a good-looking widower with three young boys. Unprepared for the elements, she learns the hard way, however, adapts well especially with her past teacher experience. Affections grow, however, the story stops short from an ending as to results until the next book. This is a sweet and clean Aussie outback story, great for a good bedtime read.

Great and clean book!

City girl Callie (X-teacher) is running from the most humiliating and embarrassing moment of her life that seen on live TV. The isolation of being a teacher-nanny in the outback sounded like a great escape. Braden is a two year widower with three sons to raise. Suddenly stuck with the full responsibility when his sister moves, he placed an ad and Callie responded.

I hate reading stories where there basically is no ending to the story. Feel disappointed with the time I've spent reading this story that nothing has been closed off and the only way to find out is to purchase the next story in the series.

Also, I think the main character living with her boyfriend for three years and him proposing to someone else is a bit far fetched.

I love the city girl running to the outback with no idea what she is getting into, leaving behind very public humiliation. Callie is a lovely character and she discovers that she likes being with widower Braden and his three impish little boys. She is discovering that maybe this country life isn't so bad after all. A great read.

Book 1 in this this new series had me craving more.

Annie has a way of capturing you with the characters and the stunning scenery of the outback.

I found that the Annie encouraged the book to emerge through the way that you wouldn’t expect.

Cute, sweet and way too short.

I liked this a lot, but we had literally only just started the story when it finished.
I got this as either a freebe or very cheap so I suppose it doesn't matter, but just be warned. This book is rather short.

Nice short story

Callie is dumped during the live news broadcast and immediately quits her job.. Looking to get away from all the social media coverage she takes a nanny/teaching position in the outback. Read as a city raised girl learns about live in the outback
