Phoenix Crew #3

The Trouble With Pins

Rate this book
WHAT’S A LITTLE HEDGIE TO DO?!

When Pins opens a bespoke tattoo shop in Bear Falls, all she really wants to do is lead a nice quiet life so she can keep her submissive hedgehog, Needles, safe from the cutthroat world of shifter politics. However, when Pins comes face-to-face with the new monster in town, Needles is immediately besotted with Mackenzie, a bad*ss phoenix shifter on the run.

To make matters worse, her plucky animal develops a fatal crush on two of the crew’s most nefarious playboys—the Irish Twins—but the pair of firefighting brothers make it abundantly clear she’s not what they are looking for in a mate.

Now Mackenzie and the Phoenix Crew are drawing heat from sinister players in the shifter world and Pins is going to be faced with a difficult choice—to retreat back into her nice safe shell or lead an expedition right into the heart of the dragon's den in order to protect her new friends.

Can one little hedgehog really make a difference in a world of monsters? And will Pins be the key to saving them all or will this plucky prey shifter wind up as the dragon’s next meal?

The Trouble With Pins (Book 3 of the Phoenix Crew) is a full length novel written for mature audiences (18+ only please!). While this fated mates’ story will be ongoing, this book is told in first person POV and is a true crossover of urban fantasy and paranormal romance genres. It includes explicit sex scenes, frequent cussing, and hot growly shifters bumping up against sassy, female heroines who can hold their own.

Get ready for small town firefighters, lots of shifters, and pyro-kenetic, psychic powers, oh my!

This book is like a mug of hot chocolate on a cold winter day. It's like a big warm hug when you're down and low. It's sweetness on a page.

My first book by Miri Stone and I'm in love! With the most unusual and fascinating dynamic duo ever written. Pins and her wee hedgehog Needles.
I dare you to read this book and not love Pins and her prickly hedgie!

Theirs is a tale of loving pain and painful hope, of fears faced and courage found.
And it starts with our little duo setting off, with no permanent bonds, no pack, no crew. Just the two of them against the world. Until they come across the handful of small town crazies from Bear Falls.
In them, Pins and her wee hedgie can not only find the family and pack they never knew they needed, but also the love they'd never even dared to dream about. The love of found family and true mates. If they can be brave enough to fight for it all.

As the blurb warns, this book is a true crossover of urban fantasy and PNR, and it's not all sugar and spice. It has quite a bit of darkness and pain that might even make you want to cry, but all in all, it's the sweetness and fun that stick with you long after turning the last page. That and the feeling.
Because this author has a gift. She writes with raw emotion, in bold strokes of hope and smudges of pain, straight onto a reader's heart. There is no way you'll be able to read this tale of hers and not be affected one way or another. You'll chuckle at sweet hedgehog antics and tear up at Pin's loneliness, you'll bite your nails at shero adventures and laugh out loud as a certain hot headed dimwit learns to get his shit together.
But most of all, you'll be reminded of the strength that lies within your own self. If a small hedgie can do it, so can you! Do the impossible, trust, have faith, believe in something good. Even if you're shit scared to try it, take that little leap and dare.

The Trouble With Pins is a MUST READ for anyone in search of a good shifter story with lots of steam and irreverent cussing, sassy female leads, and lots of fun. The kind with all the feels!

Happy reading Bookdragons
May you find the courage of forever, deep within yourselves.
One day at a time.

This book was well worth the wait!! I have loved Pins since her first appearance in the series. Such a brave little shifter and now, after reading her story, I love her even more. She is one of my favorite characters! I love how the book has a bit of everything, love, strong friendship, angst, tears and humor, lots of humor! Can´t wait to see what else is in store for the phoenix crew!!oh, forgot to say: a video? They want to make a video of what??? Laughed outloud and might have spit my coffee, lol

You can really tell that Miri Stone has a love of storytelling. This book was all about the storytelling. Pins is our resident tattooist and hedgehog shifter, who is so much more than that. This is Pins’ story, starting with her origins, then the events of the first two books from her point of view, culminating in her story with the Phoenix Crew. She is a fantastic blend of adorable and tough, with a great dash of wise in there as well.
Her story begins traumatically and shows her amazing strength of character. Once she has found herself on the others side of the world, she has grown and learned so much and developed a strong sense of herself. She is fiercely protective of, and loyal to, the place and people that she now calls home, while still being determined to stay independent and avoid the trappings that held her in her youth. So with the knowledge of The Collector setting his sights on Mac, Pins is determined to do everything she can to prepare the crew for his attack. While calling on her training and the connections she has made in the past, she also has her budding relationship with the Irish Twins to consider as well. Those two are very similar, yet completely different, giving Pins very different issues to deal with.
For an intelligent and intuitive reader, submersing yourself in this story was like being in a magical trance. It completely took over my brain, painting vivid pictures while forcing me to unravel beautiful meaning from almost poetic prose. Including all the woo-woo sh…tuff. This was a pretty chunky book that we waited a decent chunk of time for, and it was well worth the wait. Lots of hugs for Pins from me.

There were things I liked about this book and other things that bothered me. I liked getting to know Pins more and seeing some interactions with non-Phoenix Crew people. However, a good portion of this book overlaps in events with other books in this series. So for anyone who has read all the other books the first 40-ish% of the book is repeat events but from Pins perspective. I would have liked to have seen more from the 2 love interests POVs as well. I didn't really connect with them at all until the very end of the story, and even then it was tentative at best. I would have liked more info on them in general. At one point longer hair and facial hair are mentioned. Those were a surprise to me, which made me realize how formless and shapeless they had been in my mind the whole time I was reading.

My biggest complaint about this book was the repeated referral to her love interests as "Irish Twins". Maybe they have always been referred to this way in prior books and I just took it literally, they're twins AND Irish? Not until I was reading this book did I realize that they're not twins at all. Once I realized that I couldn't help but think of this in the derogatory terms of Irish Twins instead of the literal "twins that are Irish" way. That kind of killed it for me.

The Trouble With Pins is the third book in Miri Stone’s Phoenix Crew series. This book is told in Pins (and Needles’) POV and does end in a “Happy For Now” rather than a HEA. I don’t know if I have fallen harder or faster for a character in a book quite like I did with Pins. If you don’t immediately fall for her and want to join her fan club then we can’t be friends. She’s been on the outskirts of the crew and finally getting her origin story brings out all the protective instincts I have. This character is the epitome of the quote, “Though she she be but little, she is fierce.” What Pins/Needles has been through is gut wrenching, and your heart breaks for them. This book will suck in in from page one and keep you wanting more! Anything and everything you could love about shifter romance, paranormal romance and urban fantasy will be in this book. Steam to melt your kindle, laugh out loud moments, sassy females, dominant males, fated mates, found family, suspense, magic.. this book has it all. Be prepared for a roller coaster of emotions that you don’t want to get off of. I cannot say anything bad about the book except even been almost 500 pages it was way too short. Miri can weave a story like few I’ve read before. Even with it being in the paranormal genre, these characters are so real and relatable. The emotions will grip you and you will root so hard for everyone. The rituals and politics are so interesting and the plot just keeps getting better. I can’t wait to see what is in store with The Phoenix Crew and I love the crossover with the Knights of Destruction MC. This world is amazing and if you haven’t yet, immerse yourself in it, you won’t regret it!

The third book in this series about the Phoenix Crew, I loved this little character the first time we met her. I was drawn to this girl, small yet fierce, scared yet strong. In book three we learn exactly how strong and fierce this character is, from domestic and mental abuse to finding her people and lovers. She is a character who anyone would want as a friend. Her special ability is to calm a situation that has the potential to explode at any moment. Who knew she was such a horny little devil LOL. Can we please talk about her lovers? I mean really…LOVERS ! One lucky little hedgie!! Not one oh no…she gets two! The twins and our girl are a perfect match, looking forward to seeing where they end up. I have to bring up the WITCH! I want more there! The dragon shifter and his mate, Savage Tooth MC has a new prez Quake too wouldn’t mind getting to know him more. God, there are so many interesting characters! We get a step closer to the collector as well, I am looking forward to this fight. With this crew this is going to be a great battle.

Pins finds her way in this book with the Phoenix Crew and finally admits to herself this is her home too. The characters we get to meet in this book have intrigued me and I am looking forward to reading more about them. I can not wait to see where we end on this journey. I am totally enjoying the ride.

Go get lost in this series tonight!!

"When you stand so close tot he flames of transformation, you'e bound to get a little singed along the edges"

The Trouble with Pins is a Weaving,Curvy, Ride of ups and downs, heartache, pain, and love, its about finding your inner warrior even if you are small you are still mighty in areas that you didnt know you had in you.

Pins is a cautious but fierce hedgehog while her inner hedgehog Needles calls it like it is, and i have loved reading the Journey of Pin &Needles to see the final outcome of all they have had to endure and over come to be the mighty kiwi loving hedgehog that we readers have come to love.

revisiting familiar characters and seeing everything from Pins/Needles POV was amazing, especially the Hot spicy bits with the Irish Twins and seeing how they have a conflict amongst themselves they must over come.

with Danger lurking and looming over the Phoenix Crew and all the misfit rouge shifters who call Bear Falls home, can they Crew band together and face the pending battle all the while forging the bonds necessary to become the strongest Crew and Family ever so that the darkness can be defeated once and for all.

I loved this continuation of the Phoenix Crew series. It’s always fun to see a secondary character get their time in the sun, and Stone did a terrific job of bringing Pins center stage. A good portion of this book deals with events from the series’ first installment, Pyro, Pyro Burning Bright, which was great because it had been a while since I’d read that one. The romance between Pins and her fire bear hotties really picks up in the last half of the book, along with Pins and her adorable animal, Needles, coming into their own. It’s one of my favorite things to see an underdog (or in this case “under hedgehog”) turn champion, and this was done so well here.
The relationship between Pins and Needles was endearing and really fun to read. Watching them interact was probably my favorite part of the book. Don’t miss out on this unique and exciting shifter romance!

Pins/Needles story is amazing and brilliant and so worth reading! Your heart will be stolen by this character in a matter of minutes! A heroine unlike any other! She uses her gifts to do fantastic things. She is unexpected and even awe inspiring!

Her mates are Irish hotties who by no means should be seen as not right for her. They are so different but perfect for her in their own ways. Even when they may not see that!

Our Phoenix Crew is back with a bang and smash! There is lots of action, heat, laughs, a few tears(in parts) and obviously lots of love and even more surprises!

5 stars truly isn’t enough!

Worth the wait

I can't tell you how excited I have been for this book. But the wait and anticipation were absolutely worth it. To say it exceeded expectations would be a gross understatement. This chunky book, with its plucky hedgehog protagonist is by far the best thing I have read in a long time. It has everything. Longing, pain, comfort, girl gang, found family, rejected mate, love, plenty of steam (I promise, keep going!); It will absolutely bring you to tears and make you laugh out loud.
I would absolutely recommend any of Stone's books, each one excellent in their own way. But this one *chef's kiss*.

Ever since I read 'Pyro, Pyro, Burning Bright', I have been obsessed with Miri Stone.

Like it's predecessors, this book does not disappoint!

I was always curious about Pins, so quiet but there had to be a story and I wanted more or it!

I was laughing, wiping away tears and also in great need of a fan.... Talk about the heat! 🥵

Overall, a great new addition to a great series!

Love Needles!

Arghhhh Pins and Needles. You can’t get a better dynamic duo! Their banter was such a joy to read. Needles may be small prey, but she has the heart of a lion. I just loved their story. It was good to read a little more of the back story of the Irish Twins too. Those two are nothing but cheeky trouble!

I absolutely loved this book. Needles steals absolutely every page! I loved hearing her thoughts and how B A one tiny hedgehog can be!!
The only thing I didn’t enjoy, hence the four stars, is the pages of texting talk. It took me completely out of the story.

I quite liked Pins character- she was brave enough to escape her arranged marriage and to set out on her own- ( quite a big deal for her ) the friends she makes are very interesting and they have each other’s backs.
She is timid and brave which might seem like an oxymoron but this character is well written- ooh and the men- wowza.
