With her husband and former partner, Noah Dalton, at her side, she’s hoping to shed the skin of her past and return to hunting down criminals, but in a very different way...

Winter’s first case as a P.I. is as bizarre as it is perplexing. When a wealthy playboy’s girlfriend disappears without a trace, everyone who knew her says she never existed at all. Winter’s new client swears she’s real and that someone wants him to believe he’s losing his mind.
But who would do that and why?
Winter’s gut says that her client is telling the truth. But the deeper she digs—and the higher the stakes become—she begins to wonder if Fitz is the next victim...or a murderer.

Winter's Return: Winter Black Season Two (Winter Black FBI Mystery Series Book 10) by Mary Stone is a fantastic story that I have loved reading. This is book number ten in this fantastic series that I could not get enough of. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading mysteries.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
I am so happy to see that Winter Black is back in a brand new series! There is a whole new scenario here as Winter is working as a private investigator and no longer an FBI agent. She married Dalton, who is still with the FBI and they have moved to Texas. My favorite thing is NO MORE JUSTIN BLACK! Geez! I thought that would never end when that character bledover into Autumn Trent's series. Good riddance.
This new series starts out great. There is one scene that is definitely not for the squeamish. Yikes. Looking forward to more stories with Winter and Dalton in their new lives.
I have loved all of The Winter Black Series Season 1 and the spin-off series of Autumn Trent, always fast paced and feel like I have really gotten to know all the characters: Winter, Autumn, Noah, Aiden, and the rest of the agents. That being said with this being the first book of Winter Black Season 2 and Winter’s first case as a private investigator, it just fell flat for me.. very little action and very little interaction with other characters that I’ve grown to love. I will keep reading season 2 because I’m completely invested in these characters now and hope it picks up.
Winter and Reily are now in Texas. New beginnings, new jobs. Reily is still with the FBI, Winter is starting her own private investigation business. New beginnings, new cases. A good way to start a new series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
WINTER'S RETURN is the tenth installment in Season Two of the Winter Black FBI Mystery Series by Mary Stone. The development of the main characters and depth of depravity in the criminal(s) will keep you shivering. While not as intense or chilling as the first nine installments, this is a great start to the Winter's and Dalton's new life. This is definitely a hit, and you should not miss this new direction in this couple's new life!
For thirteen years, FBI Special Agent Winter Black suffered mentally and physically from personal horrors and while serving as a SA in the FBI - she has finally burned herself out and resigned from the FBI. Now, she and Dalton are married and starting their new life together in Austin Texas. Dalton transferred to the local FBI office, and Winter left the FBI and opened her own Private Investigation office. It should be quieter, less stressful and definitely less serial killers, right?
While Dalton is stuck on a desk researching missing people, Winter gets her first PI case. A wealthy playboy's girlfriend has vanished and everyone denies her existence, so he turns to the new PI in town, former FBI agent Winter Black. Even she can't find any evidence his girlfriend ever existed. Before she can find the truth, her life will be in danger, again, she will discover murders, rats, and mentally unstable people. Dalton may not be her FBI partner, but he is still her partner and protector.
I did receive an Advance Readers Copy from the authors. The above is my honest review and I highly recommend this new installment!
Winter is no longer with the FBI and she and Noah are married and living in Austin, Texas. Noah still works for the FBI and Winter has opened Black’s Investigation a P. I. Business.
Noah is having to adjust to his new office and co-workers. Winter gets her first case of a missing girlfriend. Her case turns out to be more than a missing girlfriend. Does the girlfriend really exist? Is her client a killer or is he a victim? It is one weird case.
The last chapter will leave you wondering is Timmy Stewart another Justin Black in the making? Let’s hope not.
Winter’s Return is worth reading, it is exciting, suspenseful and has lots of action.
In this new entry in the Winter Black series, Winter is now a private investigator in Austin, Texas. She and Noah Dalton are married. He works still works for the FBI. They are adjusting to marriage, a new home, a new job for Winter and new field office and colleagues for Noah. This was handled very realistically. Noah is happy that Winter is in a job he feels is safer. His FBI field office is very different than the Viriginia office and will take some getting used to. Winter's first case is an unusual missing person case. Fitz, the client, is being told that the person never existed. Winter believes him. I figured out what was going on but that did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. I am looking forward to more in this series and would recommend it.
Season two with Winter and we start off strong! Winter and Noah are married and in Texas. No longer with the FBI, Winter is a PI and excited to start her new career. The story moves fast with a case that sounds crazy quickly moving into a multiple murder and convoluted situation. Plenty of vivid and squeamish scenes mixed with intrigue and deduction made this a book I could not put down.
I would recommend reading the first season or set of Winter books and Autumn books before this story as some of the trauma and characters referenced are from those previous stories. It was great seeing Autumn still have some time with Winter as that is a fun and unique friendship. Hope to see more of this spin off or season two, especially with that ending!
This one is a little bit different in that Winter no longer works for the FBI but has instead moved to Texas with her husband Noah to open a PI firm. Her 1st case is nothing less than what she trained at the academy for and she is off on a case to figure out what happened to her clients missing girlfriend. There are a lot of questions and not many answers. Is her client in danger or is he dangerous himself. In the usual crooked lane fashion, Winter, with the help of her friends, solves the case. Mary Stone has written another winner. This series pulls you in and keeps you there. I highly recommend this novel! I received this novel as an ARC. All opinions are my own.
another great who done it by Mary Stone. Winter is finally free of her psychotic brother and has moved to Austin, Texas with her new Husband. Noah is starting in the FBI office in Austin and Winter is opening an PI office. Her first case is a real what is going on. Her new client wants Winter to find his missing girlfriend, that no one seems to know. He has a couple of pictures but the people who knew then both says his girlfriend doesn't exist. Is the client mental or is someone really out to get him. When Winter finds possible evidence, she is targeted. Can she find the missing girlfriend, and the killer before the killer strikes again?
Story was fast paced. AS with many of the Mary Stone books there was a lot to like. A girlfriend that did or did not exist??? That works but his family was really bad and they along with many of the other characters were one dimensional. Plus so many people involved to make things work. I have stopped reading the other books because they are so graphic on violence, which for the rest of the writing seems out of place - this time it was the rats, not a few but a few hundred - overkill. Then when we determine the bad guy their reason for doing what they did does not seem in proportion with what havoc they caused
This was a fantastic beginning to this new series, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. Winter has decided to start her own P.I. business, but will it be any different from when she was with the FBI? You'll have to read this to find out. I would highly recommend that you read the first season prior to beginning this one. It will give you a better understanding of the characters, connections, and the time lines of her life. They're all absolutely fantastic stories, and you won't be disappointed. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
So glad to have Winter Black back in action!! The Winter Black series was my first Mary Stone experience, and that has made me fall in love with this author. Winter and her husband SA Noah Dalton have relocated from VA to Austin TX. Winter has taken a new career path and is now a Private Investigator and Noah is with the Austin FBI Residence Agency. Her first case as a PI is a complex one with many twists and turns as only Mary Stone can do. Winter’s Return is chilling, thrilling and riveting with heart stopping action. Loved it!!
This was beyond good! Winter is such a strong character & with all she's gone through, she's still a courageous, righteous hero. After resigning from the FBI & marrying Noah, her former partner, they move to Austin Texas to start a new life. Although Noah is still in the FBI, Winter starts her own Private Investigating business. Of course her 1st case is wild beyond believe. There are murders, rats, mentally unstable people & Winter's life is in danger. Such a page turner, when you thought the series couldn't get any better, it does! Can't wait for the next adventure. .
This is the first book in this series that I haven’t been 100% happy with; it feels like I missed part of Winter & Noah’s story somewhere along the line. I KNOW I didn’t miss a book, because I only finished the last one a few weeks ago, so why do I not know why they’re in Texas, and why Autumn is with Aiden in DC? Like WITH him, with him? I’m so confused! It’s still a good stand alone story, though, although I feel as if it’s a continuation of a lot of the themes from earlier Winter Black books.

Wow o wow what a fantastic new start to one of my absolute favorite series and characters. This story picks up when Noah and Winter move to Texas. A fresh start with a new FBI team for Noah has him feeling the loss of Winter at work. Winter is starting her new PI business and we see her take on her first client. Who would’ve known being a PI was just as dangerous as being an FBI agent. Will Winter solve this one in time without the team? Can Noah handle the stress of a new job and not having Winter as a partner?
Mary Stone has created a compelling heroine in ms Black. The family of agents and warm interaction with civilian and not so civilian from her previous book 1 was contagious. She writes great intrigue and then ruins it all. Her teenage scare tactics with rats spoils the human personalities she had developed. There was plenty of horror and she can create tense situations without need of her latest obsessions with rodents. A lot of feeling between old friends and loves is lightweight in this book belonging to another age group. Still draws fun and well told story.
The title of this review could relate to Mahoney Fitzgerald's beautiful and amazing girlfriend, Sandra. When Sandra suddenly disappears without a trace, Fitz begins a search for the first person he has ever believed could actually love him. His search brings him to Winter Black (Dalton), former FBI agent. Winter and Noah have married and moved to Texas in search of a calmer life. Now a PI, Winter's first client just may be delusional. Or are Winter and Noah the ones who are avoiding life, trying to create a dream reality without a serial killer?
Well this was completely different but really enjoyable. Winter is no longer part of the FBI but she still is relying heavily on them. It was a different story and a fun, easy read. Yes you do have to suspend belief and just go with the story but that is the fun in reading which is what I enjoy.
Looking forward to more adventures in Texas.
I was given an advance copy by the author but the review is entirely my own.
Winter is now a Private Investigator living in Austin Tx with her husband Agent Noah Dalton. Her first case is reminiscent of her FBI days. She is asked to find the missing girl friend of a rich playboy. Is she real or imagined? His family and friends think he is imaging this relationship because of a long history of hi jinx. Who is Sandra and where did she go? You gotta read this one. Great job Mary.
Winter's Return by Mary Stone is book ten in the Winter Black series. Winter is now married to Noah Dalton and they have moved to a peaceful town in Texas. Noah is still a Special Agent but Winter has selected to be a Private Investigator. She believes this will be a more peaceful type of investigation. Everything is not as it seems. Is being a PI really so different from being a Special Agent? Does Winter still have her visions? Excellent read!
At 1st i had a "resistance to change" a very notorious syndrome, but i give it a try and although not totally convinced I'm working on it cause I LOVE WINTER.
Good characters and story needs a little polishing but good enough. Is a new chapter in Winter, Dalton and company, and i was going to be there for the long ride, sure do!!!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Winter Black may have left the FBI to become P.I. but her new life is as dangerous as her former career. I started reading Winter's Return and couldn't put it down. This book takes you on a roller coaster ride you don't believe will end until it suddenly does which is a good thing because I needed to catch my breath. Mary Stone is a creative, amazing author and I am excited to see what she creates next. This is a great read.
A new beginning for Winter and Noah. A different location, a new job, hopefully, a calmer life, but still interesting cases to solve. The first case the dim takes up involves a missing girlfriend of a rich playboy, or is she really missing? This book is full of mystery, twists and turns, and suspense. The plot keeps you interested and engaged until the very end and still leaves you waiting for the next story in the series! An excellent read as always.
Winter's Return - much anticipated by fans of her series and is everything I had hoped. The newest book finds Winter and Noah have moved to Texas. Noah remains an FBI Special Agent and Winter has opened her own Private Investigation agency. Although they have moved and careers have changed, this book continues the edge of your seat drama, suspense and intrigue. No spoilers, so I will only add - read this book! Excellent!
Sometimes as series go on they tend to be less than they were at the beginning. So I was intrigued by the idea is a Season Two for a series. Not only was I happy at the result but this book blew me away with the action, the suspense, the mystery and the depth of the characters. My only complaint...the next book can’t come out soon enough! Well done Mary Stone, well done!
I love the Winter Black series and the Autumn Trent series but Winter and Noah living in Austin just didn’t seem plausible to me. Being from Texas I find the stereotype Texans inaccurate. Winter’s being a private investigator just seems too far-fetched. Can’t see how Noah can continue to use his FBI credentials to help his wife . Get back to Virginia and get back to the BAU team
Winter Black at a private detective seems to have lost the edge that was present in the prior plots. It was still a good novel, but not as enjoyable to read as previous books, seemed to drag and not flow. I am nearly at the end of this series, have 1 more book to go, with book 21 not being released until later this year. I still feel Mary Stone is one of the better thriller writers and will be reading more of her series.
Winter and Noah Black are now situated in a beautiful neighborhood where everyone takes time!to care about their neighbors and since her grandparents had also agreed to leave Virginia I believe that everything for everyone is looking up for the Newly Wed's and even Grampa has a new friend to go out on his boat to fish. Winter has no shortages in a long line of business, and it just who she decides to take on next for her next client!
