Broke-Ass Women's Club

Rate this book
Four newly widowed women face the shock of their lives in this novel from a New York Times-bestselling "consummate storyteller" (Debbie Macomber).

David Logan is a con man with four wives he plays like a deck of cards--until a car accident deals him a dead man's hand.

Now the women he lied to--who thought they were happily settled down with the man of their dreams--have their lives turned upside down by a knock on their doors. All but one of them are left penniless and about to lose their homes, and all of them are too shocked to grieve.

Finding out they'd been deceived was bad enough, but coming face to face with each other at the funeral home wasn't quite what they'd expected. Before the day was over, the first wife--the only legal one--made them an offer they couldn't refuse...

From Sharon Sala, a winner of numerous honors including the Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award, this is a poignant, funny story of four women wrestling with betrayal, grief, and anger--and finding hope for the future in their unexpected friendship.

Praise for Sharon Sala's novels:

Broke-ass Women’s Club by Sharon Sala
Contemporary women’s fiction.
A bigamist dies and leaves four women broke, broken-hearted, and wondering how to survive the devastation he’s left of their lives.

A story of women supporting each other, becoming confident in themselves, learning to overcome outside belittling, and finding family of the heart.
Beautiful, empowering and heartfelt. Loved it.

I am a long time fan of Sharon Sala and read all her books as soon as they are released. I especially like the direction she has taken in writing books geared to women's fiction genre. The Broke Ass Women's Club did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the story of the four women who were "done wrong" then picked themselves up and found their lives again. I liked how they became family. I highly recommend this book.

The book title grabbed me, the premise sounded interesting, but the storytelling was a huge disappointment. So mundane.

It felt as if the author simply wrote and wrote and wrote and didn't bother to sit down and read through it again after she finished. If it had been edited properly (get the names right, at least!), there wouldn't be so much repetition. There are four main characters here and each has her story to tell. In one scene, the action happens to one of the women, and in a later scene, the action is related to another character - sometimes word for word. There were a couple of times, it's passed on again to someone else in the third round!

I get it. These women had a bad experience. How they cope with it is admirable. But come on, making them all out to be 'angels' is a little unrealistic. Suddenly, they all become fierce and won't take any lip from anyone. Everyone who crosses them is dealt with severely, either by the women or get their comeuppance in the end.

Speaking of which, I thought when that twist in the middle of the book was introduced, the story would get interesting. Sadly, it didn't go anywhere.

I think I'll stick to Sharon Sala's suspense novels. The two I've read so far were more enjoyable than this book.

Beautifully Written!

I couldn’t put this book down. The story was told so that you felt all the emotion and understood each one. This book and I Gracie shows just how wonderful a writer Sharon Sala is. I can’t say that I have ever been disappointed in any book she has written, but the two I mentioned shows a whole other side to her talent. Very well done!

proofreading anyone?

It’s alright. Not a lot of plot. Weird tangents for side characters. But the off putting thing is the editing. Multiple punctuation errors and the surnames changed on a dime. That made it frustrating to read.

I wanted to finish this right before 2022. So I'll probably be back to review it well after we've crossed into the new year in about 6 minutes.

And we're back, 25 minutes into 2022.

Happy New Year.

So, this guy David is playing these 4 women, he unexpectedly dies, then we get to read how they rebuild their lives post bigamy.

I wanted an easy read to finish 2021 with. This book delivers on this. Then going in, I was noting down details on each wife because I don't know what put the idea into my head that this was also a cozy murder mystery, like one of them was actually the murderer. It isn't. I think I would have appreciated it more if it was.

The writing was good, the story flowed and as of late if been reading somewhat duds, I appreciated this. However, this book wasn't realistic.

Do you know what happens more often than not in such situations? Those that I have seen taking place in real life? The women usually end up in court, in long drawn out cases. Or one woman tries to off the other one. But usually in such cases, the man has some wealth for them to fight over. But in this case, David was a broke ass scammer. But even though he was broke, and a scammer, this was still a hallmark level story.

The next thing that got to me, the repeated laughter, the honeys, girl and darlings. Then the fact that the women didn't really heal their wounds, they kept them locked in until when they met scenarios that caused them to break down. Bettina's kids were asses and the fact that she just let it go just because she birthed them was such BS. Oh and Janie being on the pedestal the whole time.

So, all in all, while I enjoyed the writing flow, this was too hallmarky for me.

I couldn’t put this book down! It was undoubtedly the best Women’s Fiction book I’ve read in a very long time.

I can’t even imagine what it would be like to answer the door one day and find out that not only is your husband dead, but that he has 3 other wives.

I adored all 4 of the wives and loved reading through their journey of taking back their lives.

I highly recommend it.

I cannot believe how wonderful this book is. I thought her book”I, Gracie “ was her best book; but this one has it beat hands down. I loved it and I’m sure I will be reading it again. When I read a book that makes me laugh, and then cry, and then sigh I know it is a great read! Thank you Ms Sharon Sala…I own all of your books and can’t wait for your next release.

This was excellent. Who would have thought that four women who met because of their bigamist husband would come together and become sisters of the heart? Quite a journey for all of them.

Somewhat of a Folly

Janie Logan lived in St. Louis. Bettina Lee was from Kansas City. Gretchen Lowry resided in Springfield. Pauline Lord lived in Columbia? These 4 women, all living in different towns in Missouri were all met with the same news one fateful day. Their husbands had been killed in a car crash. What an amazing coincidence. Also an amazing coincidence was that each of their husbands was named David.

As it turned out, when the police visited each of the women to deliver the tragic news, they were not only hit with news of his demise, but also that their loving husbands were one and the same man. David Logan/Lee/Lowry/Lord was a bigamist and a conman. He had pretty much cleaned the women out of their life savings.

At the funeral, Janie Logan, the first and legal wife of David Logan suggested the other 3 almost destitute women move into her mansion in the historic suburbs of St. Louis. So began the Broke-Ass Women’s Club. How on earth would 4 women who were all married to the same man be able to live together?

What followed was somewhat of a folly, almost a mutual admiration society. The book was not very well written and/or edited, with spelling and grammar mistakes and wrong names (Pauline Lord was referred to as Logan, Janie’s lawyer James was referred to as Nathan, Bettina’s son Joe at one stage became Tom).

It was a light read that had its moments but is not one that I would rate too highly.

I thoroughly enjoyed Broke-Ass Women's Club! The title alone sold me on it. I had long forgotten the premise from when I first heard about it. And I'm glad I did because I was shocked and surprised by the opening. (I won't give it away.) And these four women...Wow! They were so beautifully written, I felt like I was surrounded by the most amazing, dearest friends as I read. The plot twists were great, but I don't want to reveal any of them here! Truthfully, the title explains it perfectly. Bravo, Sharon Sala.

Definitely different

Broke-Ass Women's Club is an uplifting, emotional, yet humorous tale celebrating the resiliency and resourcefulness of women.
On the death of their husband in an auto accident, four women discover that they're all married to the same man at the same time. He had not only been living multiple false lives, but has swindled all of them out of their life savings. Their unexpected way of dealing with the aftermath makes for a story that keeps you turning pages late into the night.

Except for a few spelling and grammatical errors, this is a five-star read. Ms. Sala has a way with women who have been wronged. They find a way back and clearly have the strength they need to get up again. In this case, a man who has done not one, but four women wrong, dies in a car accident. His wives all mourn him - until they each find that they were duped, deceived, and robbed. Janie, the legal widow, takes a leap of faith and takes the other women into her home. Multiple happy endings ensue.

I am so glad I read this book! David Logan dies in a car accident and four women find out that they were married to the same man and he has left them them penniless. The first and legal wife owned her house in her own name and opened it up to the other 3 women. The women become like family and they support each other through hard times and rebuild their lives. If you like Sharon Sala's Blessings, Georgia series, you will probably like this book as well.

I truly enjoy rd this author's imagination. Women who have been done dirt by an awful human being (scan artist) are rescued by one of them. It's a feel good, triumphant story of overcoming some stuff odds.

Fantastic!

This was a great story about four women, deceived by the same man, who forge a bond and new lives under the same roof. Each woman has an individual tale and I was rooting for each one through their trials and tribulations, growth and victories. Buy this book!

Amazing

This book was so different from her others. While I love romantic suspense I do enjoy a good story about hope and learning to live again. I would hope that if ever I was in a position similar to one of the ladies I would be as lucky as they were.

I love all Sharon Sala's book but I especially loved this one. It was not a romance or romantic suspense which I usually read, but four women who supported each and got stronger because of it.

Not a romance but that is okay!

I seldom give five stars but I really enjoyed this. The women are wonderful. They are in a terrible situation and you need to read the book to find their answers.
