Let me spin you the tale of a curse. It was a powerful curse, scrawled on bare flesh by a girl desperate to save her love. Precious few curses hold such power.

The cost of this curse was a deathless sleep. Trapped, its creator couldn’t see her love trying to break her free.

Alas, he had no magic of his own. To save her, he would have to entrust her life to another.

Robin Hood meets Sleeping Beauty in the surprising conclusion to the Art Mages of Lure trilogy.

An exciting finish to an epic trilogy!

The twists and rich, Robin Hood vibes of this story were so transportive. The heart-pounding climax and beautiful ending were a perfect finish. I definitely hope Rivet has more plans for this lush world.

…what the heck happened? What WAS that?!?!?

In short, not my favorite ending to a series (or just a story in general!) and this certainly ranks as one of my least favorite books of 2023. At least it didn’t make it onto my Worst Series Endings EVER!!! list, so there’s that, though I personally think that a really low bar to jump, but whatever. ANYWAYS, read on for my unhinged reasons as to why I hated it…

Number 1: Um, where are we going??? The whole time I kept questioning what the heck we were doing and where the author was taking the story and why and to be honest I wasn’t happy or satisfied with the outcome in the slightest, nor did I understand 99% of the author’s reasons for doing what we ended up doing.

Number 2: Pointless characters with no personality or arcs. If the author needed to expand on a Voice Mage she could have done so with the outlaw Voice Mage already established—Cassandra wasn’t necessary to the plot nor did she actually do much plus I found her rather stupid and annoying, so there’s that. Not to mention characters previously established became nothing but cardboard cutouts with all the (minor) personality they used to have being stripped away. Why? No idea, but it made every interaction between them and the leads downright boring which is NOT good. Also pointless character deaths because reasons and no one cared about them except maybe one anyways so just Red Shirt Guy them and be done with their existence.

Number 3: Why the Sleeping Beauty element? It was pointless and unnecessary and did literally nothing for the story beside providing a TERRIBLE way to “remove” an evil character who needed to die but was just put into this enchanted sleep while they then proceeded to WRITE DOWN how to break such a curse so someone could go wake them up next time they wanted to destroy the world!!!! Are these characters stupid?!?!? At least the Robin Hood elements are still here but they’re watered down and have lost the charm and fun from Curse Painter. Very disappointing.

Number 4: Archer and Briar were fine—they were about one of the two things NOT irritating me—but they really had no growth and were just there. Plus that proposal was so bland and slapped in there it would have been more romantic if coffee asked tea out for a date then whatever this was. All chemistry was stripped away making my little romantic heart VERY unhappy which is not good as that part of me is very particular and has a fiery passion I wouldn’t want to cross…

Number 5: My second only praise for this book is this author writes WONDERFUL action scenes! Even when I didn’t care about the cardboard characters being left out in the rain to grow soggy and fall apart I was invested and tensed up during all the action scenes, so bravo!

Number 6: What. Was. That. HORRIBLE and STUPID ending?!?!? We went through all that so the characters could just be like, “eh, screw doing great things for the people for the rest of our lives, let’s just do the bare minimum now and wait until this elusive baby is all grown up then run off and live in the woods.” ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? What was the point of all this then? What was the point of this series?!?!? I’m so confused and ticked, and frankly it gets worse the more I think about it.

Those are my most, ahem, fiery thoughts though my list of grievances gets longer and longer the more I think about this book, so I’m going to just stop now.

I REALLY wanted to like this series, but sadly it just didn’t work for me. Curse Painter was really good and fun and can be read as a standalone (which is all I’d recommend) but Stone Charmer and Voice Mage fall flat and I would avoid. Sadly I don’t think this author is for me and I won’t be trying anymore of her books.

Voice mage picks up little after where we were left in Stone Charmer (book 2 from this series). The story ties everything together, bringing light to Esteban’s, Briar’s and Archer’s pasts. We are also introduced to some new characters and we get to know a lot more about the famous Hall of Cloaks. Art magic raises to a whole new level and I must say it’s one of best magical systems I’ve ever read. Filled with twists, it keeps the reader gripped right from the start. An absolute must-read!

I was very happy to receive an ARC copy of this book, it was SO worth the wait!
This book starts off pretty much where the 2nd book stopped. Briar is still in cursed sleep and when nothing works, Archer agrees to let Esteban to High Lure. Once again, trouble follows both Briar and Archer. Esteban has to deal with his past, one he's been avoiding since book one and it leads to a much more complex plot full of political intrigue and magic corruption.
Back in the woods, Archer has grown a group of followers that believe he can take down his father, but with two mages gone (Esteban and Briar), thing become much much harder. Especially when Briar's father goes after them.
Highly recommend it to anyone that loves magic, adventures, and puzzles. To me this trilogy was a fun mix of Robin Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Romeo & Juliet, and I loved every word of it! If anyone else sees the connection to those stories let me know lol

I’ve been waiting for the conclusion to the Art Mages of Lure books for a while now and I’m happy to say I wasn’t disappointed. The only thing I wish there was more of, was Archer and Rune becoming closer friends. I felt that was lacking. Thank you Jordan Rivet for another incredible series.

In the 3rd book of this series, the story ramps up for an exciting conclusion. The Art Mages series is unique in my reading experience, inventive and well constructed. Rivet has developed strong, compelling characters within a well plotted framework. It's a delight to read the books, and I highly recommend the entire series. I love her main characters of Briar and Archer and am rooting for them through the whole series. This book takes them on separate journeys to lead them back to the final conclusion as they each confront their past together.

Over the past few years, Jordan Rivet has become one of my favorite authors with her strong, original stories. This series is right up at the top of the list of great and adventurous reading.

I received an ARC copy with a request for my honest review and I'm delighted to give it.

Archer and Briar and all their friends are back for another exiting time. And what a story it was. It had lots of danger, magic, curses, and political intrigue to maneuver and survive. The story is well written and way to addicting to put down. Had to see what these two would have to face and survive. And would Briar and Archer survive to meet up again. And how would they find each other was the big question. Everything comes to a head and waited to see who would make it to the ending alive. So worth the wait and the read.

Jordan Rivet kindly gave me an arc copy! Since all of her books are stellar, I immediately started reading. I took a dinner break, then finished the book😁 This is the third book in the Art Mages of Lure. Curse Painter is # 1, Stone Charmer is # 2. Both are 5*. The characters are well written, it is very easy to envision the world! Very interesting magic! Battles, intrigue, and plot twists! Also a plus for me is it is clean! 🤓 Enjoy!

Voice Mage, Jordan Rivet's final installment in her Art Mage Trilogy, is a good finish to an excellent series. The storyline is moderately paced, filled with magic and mayhem, politics, intrigue, subterfuge, danger and a HEA. The characters are well developed and engaging. It was great to see Estaban featured, and I enjoyed his further character development. Cassandra was a nice addition to the story. Overall, I truly enjoyed it, and look forward to reading more from Ms. Rivet.

The final book in the Art Mages of Lure was amazing. The band had to spilt up to save Briar from her deathless sleep and stop Jasper Larke from trying to become a king. Esteban took Briar to High Lure to be awakened. There he was unjustly imprisoned and Briar was awakened by Cassandra (the young voice mage and daughter of Esteban's rival.) Archer and the rest of the gang continued to cause issues for his father and the band grew with the additional new recruits. So much happened, Briar saved the queen, rescued Esteban, was betrayed by Cassandra, was saved by Cassandra, learned how to break the Licensing tattoos by combining voice and paint magic, and got to Archer in time to save him from her father's magic. Archer did all sorts of things too, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, capturing and releasing Briar's Dad, storming Larke Castle, being overtaken by the curse painting that was on his childhood home, and being saved by/stabbing Briar (she was fine.) Once back together again Archer and Briar get married, they try to protect Larke Castle from his father's army and Briar's Dad, fail at that, regroup and win by pretending to surrender and luring Donovan into countless traps that leads him to cursing himself into a deathless sleep. Everything seemed to be working out except Tomas, Archer's brother, and Esteban died! So sad but overall the story had a happy ending of them taking over as Lord and Lady of Larke County until Thomas's daughter comes of age and then they will finally get their dream cottage in the woods.

Not bad books, but deeply flawed

These books left me frustrated. Rivet can write well, but she failed at making me care about her main character, Briar. Briar has no personality. None. Zilch, zip, nada. I didn't sympathize with her once, not once, throughout all the books in this series. She's cold and calculating at best. The romance between her and her love interest Archer was very forced. What on earth did he see in her? Beats me. I started skipping the parts of the story where he drools over her. Then I got VERY tired of the constant screw-ups of their plans to fight the bad guys. One calamity after another after another made for very tedious reading. Then, near the end, the author kills off the more interesting characters and we're stuck with a very rushed "happy ending" for cold unlikable Briar. Whoopee! What a drag and a downer. I do not recommend these books. They are just plain no fun.

This entire book was absolutely phenomenal. A perfect ending to a great trilogy, and easily my favorite book of the three.

I loved the fairy tale vibes. I loved how Briar and Archer continued to grow and seeing them use the strengths they've learned throughout the series. Their romance, friendships with others, and desire to change the world for the better were great. The plot was intriguing and satisfying and I couldn't have ended it better myself. I loved this series and once again, Jordan Rivet has been cemented as one of my favorite YA authors!

The whole storyline of both the main characters being having their own father as their worst enemy was really kind of bitter sweet. Like you know you have to do what's right but it's so conflicting when it requires you to defeat someone so closely related to you.

I was sad for death. Archer wanted to save him and had no intention of harming him from the beginning. I wish he survived and had a life with his child and the mother of his child.

“They were thieves with consciences, outlaws on a mission.”

Esteban, a powerful voice mage, has been trying and failing to wake Briar up from a cursed sleep for months. Archer is unraveling without her, but his merry band of thieves has grown and needs his leadership to stop Lord Jasper Larke’s cruelty and halt his expanding dominion. So Archer must entrust Briar to Esteban’s care, and the voice mage risks everything to return to the Hall of Cloaks to seek help.

Robin Hood meets Sleeping Beauty in this trilogy’s conclusion.

This book wrapped everything up nicely and in ways I hadn’t expected.

In this one there were wonderful new characters and I adored getting to know Esteban more with the addition of his POV.

Highly recommend this series. I love the art magic. It’s so unique!

An absolutely fantastic finish to this series.

The pacing was great. All of the characters are lovable. And the elements of Robin Hood are perfectly interwoven while the story still is its own thing.

Plus, there was no plot armor. Which I really appreciated.

Wonderful Conclusion to the Trilogy!

This was a full and thrilling conclusion to a spectacular trilogy! I love the broader character development with Esteban, Cass, and other secondary characters. The story really brings all character arch’s to a well-rounded and satisfying conclusion. Would definitely recommend this book!!!

I received a copy of this book from the author.

Fantastic ending to this trilogy. I loved getting to know the characters better and seeing them develop their relationships.

After they nearly lost everything, things were wrapped up with a neat bow in true Rivet fashion and made for the perfect conclusion.
I'd love to read more in this world.

Our happy heroes are now separated as one must gather more recruits to foil the plans of the corrupted nobility, and one must recover from the promised Sleeping-Beauty-type curse.

And it was kinda sad for me to have them separated for so long, but both story lines were interesting. Lots of new characters, and the climax had all the fireworks you could possibly ask for.

Also kissing. 😛

Excellent series. And now I’m sad. I have officially read all of Rivet’s fantasy books. NOW what am I supposed to do with myself?!
