Not all ghosts are dead.

A Grey Lady on the stairs.
A long-missing skier in the walls.
A medium losing his cool.
And an ex boyfriend in the bedroom.
Things are going fine. Just...fine.
It was supposed to be an easy investigation: a classic ghost story, an old house with lots of loose floorboards and hissing pipes, surrounded by dense forest... Every strange noise and weird shadow accounted for and dismissed.
Except for the sound of Oscar being accused of misleading his audience, of being a con artist.
And the Julian's ex showing up at the investigation as the new owner of the ski resort, haunted by the Gray Lady of the Rockies.
Julian should have known better than to believe it was going to be an easy investigation.

The scariest hauntings aren't the dead. They're the ghosts we keep inside.

Oscar has it under control.
Really.
The Gray Lady of the Rockies is supposed to be a simple investigation, something they all need after the last few months, but when the first night in the Chateau de Neige turns up an extra dead body in the old family cemetery, and an extra live one in the ski lodge's dining room, Oscar's grasp on the situation feels like it might be slipping.
His abilities are still in a state of flux—one day they're just fine, the next the volume is cranked to eleven with no warning and no in between.
And really, Oscar was sure he could handle it so long as the ghosts would stop being so damn critical.

This series started off fairly lighthearted but, especially with this book, has gradually become more serious. This is not to say that I don’t like the way things are going because I definitely am enjoying it still. The relationships between all of these characters are in flux and some of them are changing their minds about ghosts. The addition of an ex boyfriend and other shadowy figures in the background really take the story in ways you don’t expect. There are lots of hints dropped about what might happen so I’m hoping for lots more books in this great series. Just don’t read it in the middle of the night or you will start jumping at noises. Trust me I know!

There’s a lot of vagueness in this book

3.5 stars…This book leaves more up in the air than previous books. It seems like there are so many vague things and stuff we don’t get answers too. There’s a lot of reference to things from previous books but it’s disorienting if, like me, you read the first two books a while ago and can’t really remember the specifics of those plots. So I was lost at quite a few references and it impacted my enjoyment of the book. A brief reminder would not have gone astray. Most series authors I read and enjoy do this realizing there’s time between books.

The story here is a bit weird. The show is traveling to a luxurious ski lodge in the mountains of Colorado to investigate a haunting there. There isn’t really any specific info on the haunting, the lodge owners aren’t happy they are coming (the son signed the contract), and it turns out Julian’s awful ex is the new manager of the lodge and determined to make things miserable.

There are several points in the story where I felt the team was just being unrealistically amenable to things being done to sabotage them. The rationalizations for not kicking up a fuss or making threats seemed lame to me. And the excuses that the network is unhappy with a program about ghosts having the murder issues they’ve had also seems unrealistic. Seems to me that most producers/studio executives would be salivating at the publicity being generated.

I didn’t enjoy the story here as much as in the first two books but the relationships between the various characters I do like. The description of the next book sounds interesting.

The editing and proofing of this book is pretty bad. There were two different places where a huge section was of text was repeated with slight differences making me think the author copied text to make a change and then forgot to go back and delete the original version. Then several areas with grammar errors and typos. Really sloppy and distracting as I was reading.

This is part of a series, and it helps to know the characters and world building from the start, so if you haven’t read the first book, start there! I’m impressed with the way readers’ understanding of the way ghosts and the supernatural work changes along with the characters’— as Oscar and Julian learn, so do we. There are, of course, strong supernatural themes here, and lots going on. I don’t think I can do a better job capturing the essence of the novel, however, than this line from the blurb: “The scariest hauntings aren't the dead. They're the ghosts we keep inside.” Well worth a read.

Meredith Spies is a new to me author. I enjoyed reading Old Ghosts, but I came in in the middle or near the end. But the author has piqued my interest; I will be looking for the first two books in the series and start over.

The story continues where we left off in book 2 but its getting more sinister.
Quite a bit happens in this book and both Oscar, Ezra and Julian have sacres.
I cant wait for the next book.
