I have so looked forward to David's story and the author did not disappoint. Mariah Stone is a wonderful historical time travel romance author and I can never get enough of her stories.

All David wants is to go back to his time in the future, not stuck in 1300's Highlands! After 3 years of being stuck in the past, his quest of finding the magical stone that will send him back comes to an abrupt stop when he agrees to help rescue Robert the Bruce's daughter, Anna. When he meets her and gets to know her, going back to his time is suddenly not that important to him. Unfortunately she is betrothed to a man of her father's choosing, all in the name of peace. Anything can happen, though, when you're on the run!!

Very well written and kept my interest from start to end. Now I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out:)

I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This was a captivating time travel romance about David and Anna. David is trying to find his way back to his life in the future. Anna's clan is attacked when she's traveling to meet her betrothed but thankfully David is there to help. This story is full of romance, action, and heartache. You could feel David's desperation to go back to the future, as well as Anna's wish to get out of the living conditions she was in. This book was intense and captivating. Four stars!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

David Wakeley has had enough of medieval Scotland. He's been there three years and all he wants to do is go home back to the twenty-first century. He wants nothing to do with chivalry and and valor, but hopes that rescuing a Highland princess just may be his ticket back home to the twenty-first century.

Anna MacDonald thinks she's going to die after being kidnapped and thrown into a dungeon, until a stranger saves her. Then its a race to get her to her arranged marriage on time while being chased by her fathers enemies. But when passion starts to flare between them, their love could totally alter the course of history.

Mariah Stone is simply brilliant. I was waiting for David's story and it was nice to see him finally get it. Anna was the perfect girl to make his purpose in life change. I was hooked on this book and took my time reading it. It's very well written and utterly captivating. All in all I would say if you are a fan of time travel and highlanders you should read this book.

He may have been her protector, but she was his savior. This is a story of action and emotion. There are way too many close calls for comfort. You will be holding your breath, sitting on the edge of your seat, and wondering how this will have a happy ending. David ended up in the fourteenth century when he grabbed his sister’s leg as she touched the stone. For three years he was angry and searched for a stone that would and activate and take him back to the twenty-first century. Anna, the ‘bastert’ daughter of Robert the Bruce, longed for her father’s attention, so when he arranged a political marriage for her, she went willingly. Trouble brewed along the way, she and David crossed paths, and plans went awry. Again, this is fast paced, full of emotional upheaval, battles, and distress…..but once again, love prevails.

Forbidden love, unstoppable passion, and more than one daring rescue—for fans of Outlander!
Three years in medieval Scotland has been more than enough for accidental time traveler David Wakeley. He wants nothing to do with chivalry and valor, but rescuing a Highland princess may be his ticket back to the twenty-first century.

Kidnapped and thrown into a dungeon, Anna MacDonald thinks she’s been left to die. Until a handsome stranger saves her. Pursued by her father’s enemies, David and Robert the Bruce’s virgin daughter race to make it to her arranged wedding on time. But when passion drives them into each other’s arms, their love could alter the course of history.

He’s trapped in the past. She’s trapped in a dungeon. Can they escape their bounds to fight for a forbidden love?

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

How can they be destined when their goals are so opposed…

I was I suppose like many, very intrigued to know what the author had in store for David, since his introduction in his sister’s story, it was evident he was not happy, be trapped so far away for his own, in a world without our contemporary confort. Why for the last two years he has been looking for a way out of the middle-age.
Quite understandable for a young man who lived with hot water, flushed toilets, modern medicine, cars, Instagram and so on. Here, it takes days and a horse to go from a city to an other, water is dangerous, your life is at stake at every turn, battles are on the death type and any wound can fester.

Yet he is one of the good guy, even when at a fingertip of reaching his goal, he saves the princess, as in literally rescue a real one, even if she is the illegitimate daughter of a king, she is still royal blood.
He knows from the moment he set eyes on her she is his “fated mate”, the one the time fairy spoke about, the temptation to hold him back here. But he swears to himself to resist to this siren.
One who has herself an objective, make her father proud, prove her worth to him, despite the weigh it has on her soul.
Anna has been loved despite her birth outside wedlock, but she always came second, her kin are kind, fair and welcoming but she is only the daughter of the late sister, her father due to his rank and battles has been missing for most of her life except for one meeting when she was twelve.
So when he summons her, she will make him finally proud of her.

But nothing went as it should.
Now on a mad dash to bring her where she is expected, David and Anna come close, facing death, gruesome fights and sharing their hopes.
And falling for one another, yet they have both their objective in full swing, so what can they do when David feels he does not belong and Anna wants to confirm her father she is deserving of his name.
An emotional journey as they both have to revisit their dreams, and decide what is worth to live for and where.

The year was 1306 in Scotland.
While Anna’s mother, Julianna had been betrothed to her father the Earl of Carrick, they had never married before Julianna’s death. Hence, leaving Anna MacDonald as illegitimate daughter of the man now entitled Robert the Bruce King of Scots. She was twelve the first time she met him. He told her someday he would have need of her and would send for her, so she must learn the ways of a lady.
The was now is 1313
David Wakely was not of this time period, had never meant to travel back in time. He had only meant to stop Rogene, his sister from going back with the help to the Fairy Sineag but had been drawn back with her. He had learned to fight alongside of Angus Mackenzie, Rogene’s husband. It had been three years, for the last two years he had searched for the rock with a handprint that was a portal back to Chicago in the twenty-first century. He looked for the Fairy Sineag as well. But without luck. Sineag had prophesied “Your time will come after you meet the woman you’re destined for.” But David didn’t want a woman in this time period, he only wanted to leave it.
On his quest for the rock his is lead to Carlisle Castle, where he finds Anna imprisoned deep in a dungeon where she was dropped into an oubliette, a hole in the ground with no way out but straight up, ten feet. She had been starved and was now to be left to die. She had been on her way to her father after all these years. Her marriage to a border lord would stop a war between the English and Scots. Her time was running out, she must meet up with her father by John the Baptist day or the treaty was off. David had found the rock with the hand but nothing he could do would open to portal and Anna was desperate to get free. They had to escape, Anna insisted Sinage had come to her and told her she would be saved by her protector.
The journey to Stirling is fraught with danger, but also David and Anna find themselves falling in love. Will Anna reach Stirling in time for her wedding? What of history? Was Anna meant to marry Mowbray and stop a war? Will David ‘s assistance to Anna gain him his freedom to return to the future?
Rogene and Angus’ tale is told in “Highlander’s Desire: A Scottish Historical Time Travel Romance” with David’s front steps back in time. In “Highland’s Protector: A Scottish Historical Time Travel Romance” David story will be told but where will he end up? History plays out full of adventure, where death changes much, and romance knows no time period. I loved the tale and especially meeting David again, to see how his determination pushes him toward his fate, how he learns to overcome his dyslexia in an even more primitive time. Where a beautiful, strong willed young woman will fight by his side and may just teach him lessons he would never learn in the world of t he future.

I was given a free copy through Booksprout to offer my own opinions of this book. Which I thoroughly enjoyed and can easily recommend for others who enjoy time travel with twists of history.

🏰😩Excellent adventure with a hero torn💔

4.5-5🌟 stars
This may be my favorite book in the series so far and I've read every one. It had me on the verge of tears several times thanks to the star-crossed lovers character of the romance. It's got a great combination of action and romance in one of my favorite settings.

David, the male lead in this time-travel adventure romance, has been an important secondary character in the series since he accidentally accompanied his sister on her journey through time to the war-torn medieval Scottish Highlands. He really comes into his own in this book. He wants so much to be worthy, to return to the present and work toward a college degree and a comfortable future with all of the modern cons. After three years in medieval Scotland he's still totally focused on leaving his sister, nephew and new friends behind to get back to the future. Then he stumbles into Anna's life and his plans take a detour, with daring escapes, cutthroat fighting and burgeoning feelings for a brave young woman meant for another man.

The escape journey brought numerous deadly trials that made it a page-turner experience. I liked the romance with its O. Henry-like moments of self sacrifice and building passion, culminating in some steam, and the author's inclusion of a subplot that highlights the plight of lepers in the superstitious medieval world. What a truly dire existence in a world where even the healthy frequently struggled to survive.

Female subjugation to a male-run society also features prominently. Anna, the female lead, gets caught between her desire to make her family happy and her need to feel free to make her own decisions. She's no doormat and her actions show loyalty, strength of character and unselfish love. She's a great heroine (though I have to admit David just slightly beat her out as my favorite character).

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book provided through Booksprout; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

I love this series; I have read all the books and there is a lot of them !! Each is great and can be read as stand alone. But reading them in order including the two novella is best. Each story has so much history of each character. This is finally David's story and doesn't disappoint at all ! It was worth the waiting for sure. David Waleley has been stuck back in the 1300 for three years after accidentally following his sister thru time. All he has wanted since then is to go home. Unfortunately, that never happened. He has learned things no man of the 20th century would every need to know. How to fight using a claymore and fight to the death for the clan. He has been on a quest for two years looking for the magic stone that will let him go home to Chicago. He has been told it is in Castle Carlisle.
Anna MacDonald is the bastard daughter of the now King, Robert the Bruce. She has only meet him once and then he didn't remember her name. But she longs for her father to be proud of her. She has agreed to marry a man he wants for political reason. Then she is kidnapped and David offers to help save her with her Uncle and Cousin. No one could for see the danger that David and Anna will face trying to get to the Castle on time for the wedding. They have to work together thru a lot and by doing so will learn more about each other then any others know. With secrets told, and longings between them, they will see what is most important and what one will do for the love of other.
This is a fast-paced story you will not be able to put down. Beware you will cheer for the, cry with them and hold your breath that somehow it will work out well. Wow, what a story.
Don't miss this one it may be the book of the year ....
I received and Arc from the author and wish to thank her, this is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I have not read any of the prior books in this series and I was still able to fully understand and enjoy this book. I will say that I am very intrigued and will have to go back and read the others.

This book was well written. The plot flowed smoothly. The characters were so easy to fall in love will. I felt like I was right there in the middle of the action just like a movie only better. The book is written in a dual POV format. Getting the character's thoughts in the middle or after really helps me to identify with them and connect better with them.

David was thrown back into the time of the Middle Ages when his sister is sent back in time (in a prior book). He was never meant to time travel but by grabbing her leg, he also made the journey. He has been trying to get back to the 21st century for 3 years and hasn't made any progress. In his travels, he joins up with two highlanders on their way to rescue a young woman, Anna. In the process, he comes across the time traveling stones but he feels obligated to see Anna to her betrothed. Anna is the illegitimate daughter of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland. Her impeding marriage is a very important alliance for Scotland.

Can David see Anna to her intended or will he be able to time travel back to the present before that? What obstacles will they have to go through to reach Stirling? Will they even be able to reach Stirling in the prerequisite time?

I don't normally read romances that take place that far back in time but hey it is a time-traveler romance, sign me up!

This is an enchanting story that was hard to put down (until I had to look up some words which expanded my knowledge.) It was also a sexy story but oh so charming. I would recommend this to anyone over the age of 18.

This was another wonderful story in the Called by a Highlander series.
This story revolves around David who accidentally ends up in the Middle Ages after trying to stop his sister Rogene. For 3 years he has been searching for Sinaeg and the stone that will bring him back to today's time in America.
After 2 years of searching, he becomes involved in rescuing a woman who is being held captive; Anna.

Anna is the bastard daughter of King Bruce. All her life she tries to get his attention. When she is asked to come to her father, she understands that she is being married off to save Scotland. She agrees but regrets her choice when she meets David.

Where David has a strong desire to return in time, he finds himself thinking more and more about life in the Middle Ages with Anna by his side, but she is destined to become someone else's wife. After her rescue, David does everything he can to get her to Sterling in time where her husband-to-be is waiting for her. But the journey is not without its dangers and Anna must save David from certain death. Their love for each other strengthens with each day they spend together.
But how can they love each other when she already knows he's going away to a time where she's not? And how strong is the desire to return to a life and a time without Anna?

Do you want to know how? Then read this beautiful and romantic story!
Highly recommended.

This is another wonderful adventure into the past, you will be captivated

David finds that he has been magicked to around the 1300 and that he sticks out like a sore thumb which is not ideal in a society that is highly suspicious and fear anything they do not understand, also having a habit of calling anyone a witch or evil they fail to fit the norm.

David had been trying to prevent his sister from returning to her true love and has been trying to get back to Scotland over the past couple of years. Trying to find the stones that will enable to him to return to his previous life which he dearly wants to achieve.

On the way he rescues Anna McDonald and discovers that she is related to Robert the Bruce, he wants to use her to win the castle and lands to defeat the English. However, her stint in a dungeon she was not going to be pushed around by anyone.

This is a wonderful story I guarantee that once you begin reading you will not be able to put this book down until you reach the end.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Captivating... this story pulls you right into the adventure!
David just wants to go home to the 21st century, he just can't find the way until he stumbles upon a clan on a rescue mission. While he doesn't really want to help, he agrees and rescues a Scottish princess- the daughter of Robert the Bruce. Now he must get her to safety and to her arranged marriage but he didn't count on losing his heart in the process.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it was just the perfect blend of adventure, history, and then romance. Great character development throughout. The way the author wove real-life characters with her fictional story was just brilliant. And even though there are several hints towards themes that made me roll my eyes such as David and Goliath, Tristan and Isolde, Romeo and Juliet, it all adds to the story and makes it richer.
The only nit-picky thing I can say that bothered me about this was that there was a lot of repetition and back and forth of thoughts. I can only handle so much of that before it gets really old reading it over and over again. But it does make the reader sympathize with both characters as they are torn from what their hearts want and what their duty is.
I can't wait to read more from this series and highly recommend this book

YOUNG LOVE AT IT’S BEST!!!! Highlander's Protector by Mariah Stone is book 8 in the Called by a Highlander series and I am just loving this series. I have been waiting for David’s story for a while now and so happy it has finally been release. Mariah has created a time travel series that goes back to Robert the Bruce. This is the story of his bastard daughter that the Bruce truly loved her mother but passed away before they could marry and she was pregnant with his daughter. She died soon after Anna was born. This book is very original, has the real feel of the medieval era, easy to read, vivid descriptions and just an incredible read. Mariah is on of my favorite authors and she never disappoints. What a talented author. This story has Robert the Bruce bastard daughter, a young man searching for a way home, a faerie who is a bit of a matchmaker, an arranged marriage, needing her father’s acceptance & love, wanting to be free, thrown into an oubliette, rescue, being saved from death twice, needing to protect, a vow to bring her safely to her father, a rough journey and falling in love. There is so much more to this story but I don’t want to give too much away and I am very highly recommending you read this book. It was FANTASTIC!!!

beautifully written romance of two innocents

This is the story of David, Rogene’s brother from book 5. He’s 21 now and been traveling around Scotland looking for faerie stones that could take him home for two years. He’s a virgin but only in the sense that he’s not had intercourse. He’s searching for a way to return to modern times, but he’s really searching for inner peace and inner fulfillment. He’s naive and innocent which causes misadventures. Anna is the niece of a Laird but also the bastard daughter of the king of Scotland. The book begins when she is 12 years old. And she meets her father for the first time. She is a wild adventurous child but once she meets her father she starts training to be a noble lady. She’s innocent and naive. She’s been bullied by a cousin but loved by her aunt and uncle, but her aunt dies. Years later her father negotiates a peace with her wedding to a Laird who supports the English. The story revolves around her rescue from kidnapping and her travels to get to her father. The two of them are forced together and learn from each other experiencing mishaps and rescuing each other. Ms Stone uses beautiful language to interpret the story engaging the readers emotions and senses. They are so young and David is impulsive at times. It is a nice story, well written.

Hard to believe this is the 8th book in the series and the magic is still there. David accidentally traveled through time from Chicago trying to stop his sister, Rogene. Now he is stuck in medieval Scotland, living during the time of the Bruce! On a quest to find the stone to travel back to his time David crisscrosses through the Highlands going on three years and still imprisoned in the past. He crossed paths with two MacDonald’s on a secret mission to save a kidnapped princess. Being of the MacKenzie clan, David was enlisted to help break into the castle, which happened to be where the next possible time traveling stone maybe.
Anna was kidnapped by English loving Scots, as the daughter of the Bruce, the King, she was shown no mercy and thrown into a hole in a dungeon. In total darkness and given stale bread and water, Anna feared she was going to lose her mind before death will take her.
The characters are wonderful, David still hasn’t lost his dream of a future in Chicago and Anna her duty as the daughter of a King. The story has you turning pages to find out what will happen, what will they do and will love overcome all.

David and Anna - Amazing, action packed time travel novel
Year 1313. This story follows David who is on a quest around Scotland to find his way back to his old life in the future and Anna, illegitimate daughter of Robert the Bruce.
On her way to meet her betrothed Anna’s clan is attacked and she is kidnapped. David helps rescue her from the barbaric conditions she has been kept in and their journey back to safety begins.

Beautifully written and a truly great read that captivated me and kept me on the edge of my seat. At times anxious and wondering just how they could possibly get out of the dangerous situations they found themselves in. Oh, and there sure were plenty of them.
Loved the characters so much that my heart ached when things went wrong.
This story has action galore, a truly great love and even a matchmaking fairy named Sineag.
What more could you want.
I definitely recommend this novel. Try it, you’ll love it.
I received a free copy of this for my honest review.

David wound up back in the 1300's when he tried to stop his sister from going back into time to her true love and instead he wound up going with her. He has spent the last few years trying to find his way back by wondering around Scotland trying to find the stones that will take him back. He wants to get back to get his football scholarship and make a statement in current times with his life. Then he meets and rescues Anna MacDonald. Anna is the bastard daughter of Robert the Bruce, so she is a princess and in reality once the Bruce realizes she lives and that she is a very attractive young woman, he wants to use her as a pawn to gain other castles and lands to help him defeat the English. There becomes a couple of problems with the arranged marriage, one is will Anna return in time to marry the man her Father has arranged for her since she was kidnapped on the way there and thrown down into a hole in his castle intending to let her die there. This story has a ton of drama, outstanding characters, plenty of action, a wonderful romance and a happy ending along with so much more!!

With each series I read, there is always a character that I can't wait to hear their story. For me, it was David. When he first found himself in the Midieval Highlands, he knew he needed to return to the present. He has spent years trying to find a way. However, Fate has a different plan for him. Anna has not had an easy life. When she finally sees hope in her future, she is kidnapped and left to die. She is told her savior is coming. But will he destroy her heart in the process. I waited a long time to find out what David's future would bring. Ms. Stone did not disappoint me. The story was full of action, romance and heartache. But there was also hope. Hope for a HEA. This was a very emotional read. I definitely suggest reading the series in order for the most enjoyment. Can't wait to see what comes next.

Highlanders protector is the last book in a series by Mariah Stone, the story is about David Wakely and Anna MacDonald held in 1306, David time traveled back with his sister to the 14 century by mistake, And has been trying to find a way to get back to 21 century to Chicago and his life. Anna is the daughter of Robert the Bruce, but has not saw the King for seven years, when Anna meets the King he tells her she is to marry a man who has a castle to help the King win the war. On her way to meet the man she is to marry, she is kidnapped and David agrees to help her escape from Dugal MacDowell who has Anna in a deep hole in his castle. This story is well written, with a lot of action and enjoyed how the people from previous books were involved in plot. Loved how Anna and David love development, I would recommend this book it's a Perfect book to end the series, was given this book as a ARC for honest opinion and can say really enjoyed the book, and whole series.

Finally David's story! David has been stuck back in the medieval Scotland after accidentally following his sister thru time. All he has wanted since these past 3 years is to go home, in spite of making friends, his sister staying in this time and a new nephew. Until he meets Anna, the bastard daughter of Robert the Bruce, who only met her one time in her life. King Robert wants her to marry for political reasons and because she longs to please the father she never knew, she agrees. Kidnaped on the way to her wedding, David helps rescue her, but when they are separated from the rest of the rescuers, they travel alone. This book has great, well written characters, well paced storyline, sizzle, steam, action, heartache, and more. Part of the 8 book Called by a Highlander series, an awesome binge read and available on Kindle Unlimited.

David Wakeley now David MacKenzie, is still searching for the stones and Sineag to open the tunnel through the river of time to return to the 21st century. Never is there a more unhappy person who doesn't see what the 12th century has to offer, until he meets Anna Macdonald. Anna has her own unhappiness. She is the bastard daughter of Robert The Bruce. Having seen him only once in her life, she is willing to be a pawn in an advantageous political marriage to please him. Captured by Dugald MacDowell and thrown into an oubliette, Anna has no hope until Sineag appears and tells Anna her one true love, David, is coming to save her. It's a run for their lives to the Bruce and heartbreak if David doesn't stay and Anna won't go with him.
A constant struggle for Anna and David to grow up and accept the choices that are right ones for them.

David Wakely is stuck in 1303. He travelled back in time by accident when he tried to stop his sister returning to the past where she had previously visited.
All he wants to do is to get back to his previous life.
He is travelling Scotland to try to find the stone that will send him home.
When he meets two warriors who are trying to rescue a princess, he agrees to help them.
This is when he meets Anna.

Both David and Anna know they cannot be together due to the circumstances of their lives.
Can they resist the pull they have to each other? Can they go back to their individual responsibilities and leave each other?

This is an interesting well written, entertaining story. I really enjoyed reading it.

Mariah Stone has really excelled on this time travel romantic highland historical book.
It is so good, I could not put the book down.

David who we have met before was transported back to the 14th century.
David has spent 3 years trying to find the right connecting puzzle piece to bring him back to the 20th century.

Anna the illegitimate daughter of the king, she meets him at 12 years old. Then at 18 he tries to use her as a pawn. To bring peace to Scotland.

Anna gets kidnapped, by another clan, with a cruel laird.
Once David gets her out there is an immediate attraction, lots of action, handsome highlanders, lots of brawn, twists and turns that make this an exciting book.

I really am looking forward to the next one in this series.
I highly doubt this complete series to you.

The characters in this time travel story are more rounded than others in this series. Anna has a conflicted childhood and struggles with her self-image, thinking she needs her absent father to make her feel she belongs. David shows desperation in trying to find a way home to fulfil the promise of his 21st century life. Both are vulnerable but stronger than they think. Their separate and joint journey to maturity and contentment travels many corners and gives the reader a deep bond and empathy with them.
Many time travel stories have the heroine or hero coming to terms with their new surroundings a bit too quickly, but this one has a realistic battle as our hero takes stock slowly of what is really important to him. I gave it 5 stars for the depth of character and many twists to the plot. A great read.

This story is about two people who are both trying at find there place in the world. Looking to be accepted, happiness, self worth, and love. There adventurous Journey is filled with excitement, excellent storyline, emotional turmoil, and finding true love. Anna McDonald and David Wakeley met when he was on a mission to help save her life. Although he had is own mission to find the stone to take him back to his own time in Chicago. Only not just fate but a certain Fairy had different plans for both of them. All things changed after that. Was each of there goals stronger than the Love of there life that the Fairy spoke about ? The Emotional Take is is beautifully told and you really get captured in what they go through. A definite Winner.
