From USA Today Bestselling Author Yolanda Olson and Bestselling Author C.A. Rene comes a fast-paced, extremely dark & taboo post-apocalyptic romance. The world died before I had a chance to take a breath.

There’s a small number of survivors scattered around what was once Los Angeles.

At least, that’s what I think this piece of land used to be called.

I can only go by what I’ve been told, and the one person that guided me and kept me safe died seven years ago.

With her last dying breath, she told me that I’m special.

That I can fix this, and so I hunt.

Scavenge for the scraps that haven’t been turned to poison, for the animals that can provide a meal for the ones I’m hiding in my home.

But that’s a dangerous thing now.

I’ve stumbled across a family that hunts more than just animals. Anything they see as a threat, they’ll take down.

Find the cure or watch what’s left of humanity die.

I have to take this burden on my shoulders because I promised her that I would.

I just didn’t know how difficult things would get until I saw them.

Because he has something I want, and I won’t stop until I take it from him.

When I found out two of my favorite authors collaborated, I was giddy as a schoolgirl. I knew going in for my mind to be pushed passed my limits and be a total mind fuck. That is precisely what happened, and I loved every minute of it. These ladies killed it!

Here is what to look forward to
Taboo
Dark
Twisted
Deprived
Craziness
Morals left at the door
Extremely well written
No idiota was left out

Giddy Up and get ready for a dark, wild ride. It's like the post-apocalyptic world meets the Greens and puts them on steroids.

Beverly is a sick young woman who needs more than her parents can give her. Not sure how to describe her parents besides plain selfish. Then there is Colby. I LOVE HIM!!!!

I sat here and read the book in one sitting and couldn't put the book down. Please take the trigger warnings seriously. Mimic is not your typical romance; it's a dark book loaded with a ton of black. That ending is a severe mind-boggle.

I hope to see more collaboration between the two authors.

Genre: Post Apocalyptic Horror
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:
4.25 Stars

It has been two hundred years since humanity forever changed after a devastating nuclear world war. Beverly Hill’s family carved their niche and thrived well enough considering the situation. But behind the facade, something sinister lurked. And when newcomer Colby had his sights on them, he got more than what he bargained for.

I was #TeamBevie right from the beginning and loved her personality and tenacity. I liked Colby but felt his background was too vague to have an impact.

How did we get here? What do I do now?

This book was not what I expected, and pleasantly surprised by how it turned out. Even though there are things I wished were explained more, I enjoyed the storyline, especially with the multiple taboo elements.

Mimic is a tale of aspiration and endurance. It would appeal to readers who enjoy taboo post-apocalyptic horror.

Whoa!!!! This book was disturbing and creepy, but I literally could not put it down.

In a world where disease has changed some humans into the Others, the rest of the population is just trying to survive. There is a treaty and a border between humans and the Others but something is amiss because the Others are getting closer.

Beverly is the daughter of the towns leader and she is a special brand of psycho. All of the problems that happen seem to stem from Beverly’s behavior.

Colby is from another town. He happens to see Beverly and her father while hunting and decides he must know this girl.

I can’t even say too much because there was something new around every corner. But I will say if you like apocalyptic type, suspense, psycho stories, this is for you! And the ending was 🤯

I went into this with no idea it was going to check all the boxes of my dark and twisted soul! From start to finish this book takes you on a very very dark ride of all the TW you can think of. Colby is by far my new favorite book boyfriend and I'm looking forward to more in this twisted world!

I Give this Book a 4.5/5, Listing as High 4 Stars.

HEA(?): Definitely Not 😆
Dark(?): For me 3.5/5 Listing as 3, this maybe be darker for others. Please understand I love Dark to Extreme Dark reads.
Heat: it’s more talked about, not as much written to me. 2/5. The storyline does take precedence.
Dark Romance(?): No.
Romance: 0/5
Pacing: Mid.
Drama: 4.5/5
Suspense: 4/5
Predictability: 1/5, I had no clue what was going to happen next.

Talk about an addictive page turner, the plot and storyline was great but I was personally expecting more impact, more gore and horror as well as detailed scenes.
I loved this book, it’s unique in its own way, I just wish there was MORE.
I really would like to read more about the Others, I would’ve liked to know how everything began and how the Others became who they are. I have no idea what the Others actually look like, nothing in-depth.

The cover while absolutely gorgeous, I mean I LOOVE IT!
But it doesn’t fit the book at all. I want to know how the Cover fits within the story.
The ending was abrupt. The epilogue really has me curious, if there will be more to this 😍

Let's be VERY VERY CLEAR... this is not a HEA cutesy love story. This is a dark, twisted, soul wrenching, WTF book. Beverly is the daughter of Pollyx and Heidi, who all have been born after the explosion and all now live in a radiation post apolipytic world with " Others". Colby comes along to save, but little does he know. Yolanda & CA Rene killed this book. I hope this story isn't over cause this was dark, twist, and f$@king AH-MAZING 🖤 Pay attention to the trigger warnings as they ARE NOT THERE FOR WORD COUNT I PROMISE!😉🖤

Oh man I’m not sure what I read. This book was taboo and twisted in the most amazing way. We get multi-POV and it helps the story intertwine into something that I couldn’t put down. I’m a huge fan of all things dark and depraved and let’s just say this book got that spot 100%! It’s not a book that’s going to be for just anyone. But those that are brave enough and love a twisted read will devour it in one sitting like I did! 5 stars #2OCCJD

I have never read anything like this before but I knew with these authors I had to give it a try. I was literally sucked in from the first page, I flew through this so quick. This is probably up there with one of the darkest books I have read. And I really really enjoyed it. It is definitely dark and taboo, DEFINITELY CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. For me is was definitely a 5⭐️ read

What in the ever loving messed up world of books did I just read? Honestly I am still gasping and grasping for words!
This author duo has penned a bizarre, chaotic and unbelievable story that will be felt for years to come.
Bevie, there are no words for this disturbed young girl, at first you feel sorry for her but looks can be deceiving. She has named the town where they live Dollywoodland and it is completely apt and fitting. Her parents, oh my, her parents. And Colby, just what was up with him?
Sorry this so vague but I don’t want to spoil the story. And if you need warnings about this story, well good luck with that.
Dark ✔️
Dystopian ✔️
Jaw dropping madness ✔️
Craziness galore ✔️

4.5 stars I cannot stress enough how much you need to check the trigger warnings on this because it's DARK. TABOO. TWISTED. In a way that only these authors working together can pull together. I don't think I've ever read a book like this before. I really enjoyed it. I never had a clue where this was going right up to the end I was still surprised and frankly, shocked. I don't know who I would recommend this to, but what I can say is that if you handle dark books you might like this but do not underestimate how dark this is. I volunteered to read and review an early copy of this. All opinions are my own.

Mimic is warped post-apocalyptic world and as the story progresses it gets even more twisted. I loved all the characters, even if depravity is their middle name. Everyone thinks that the radiation has gone to Beverly's head and maybe it has. She had this obsession with dollies and I wouldn't want to cross her path.

Mimic is taboo. And a depraved one at that. There were a few jaw-dropping moments that I didn't see coming. These two authors make magic together and I hope they write more!!

4.25★

Two hundred years after a nuclear war, Beverly’s world still bears the scars and devastation of the fallout. With humans fighting to survive, Beverly’s family seemed to have a good place in their community, but Bevie had a different vision for her future.

“I smile wide, letting them see the teeth that’ll rip out their jugulars if they even attempt to encroach on what’s mine.”

As Bevie pushed the limits to get what she wanted, Colby takes notice of her and begins to formulate a plan to fulfill his destiny. Though the townspeople have opinions of Bevie, she forges her own disturbingly manipulative path as others undermine her tenacity.

In this dystopian story, the added element of taboo was unexpected and this underscored the character desperation. While I wanted to see just how far Bevie would go, I was also very curious about whether Colby would succeed. With the ending, it is survival of the fittest.

Daddy's Girl, Dollies & Dystopia, OH MY!!!

Two amazing authors come together and create a dystopian world full of darkness and other horrors lurking about. With creative writing and a unique plot, you'll want to stay up all night reading it!!

Beverly is getting older and ready to take on the responsibilities of her own household and ALL the wifely duties. Only she's not exactly seeing eye to eye with her parents on her future plans.

Colby knows he needs to find a wife to fulfill the prophecy his mother spoke of while on her deathbed. Curing humanity and caring for his loved ones is his mission, but at what cost will it come to him?

All aboard the cray-cray choo-choo train, this is one ride you don't want to miss!!!

Side note: Me realizing why the book is titled Mimic....OHHHHHH!!!

What did I just read....

So I went into this book completely blind Except for the fact that was going to be something about post apocalyptic life. But holy heck this book was DARK AND TWISTED! I don't really like books like this I am a dark romance reader but this was just Something else especially when you get to the parts with Beverly and Pollyx😬 I ended this book still completely confused on What exactly the point was but it was super good. It was definitely one of those books that I went to bed thinking about and woke up early in the morning to finish It was bloody and gory and disturbing and so good. This is a book I have to add to my library just because it was so crazy and it totally snapped me out of my book slump!

Loved

Okay this book is not my ordinary read. This is not a romance in the slightest but that’s all I’m going to say about that cause I don’t put spoilers in my reviews. This story is 🤯 I really don’t know how to explain it but I started reading about 4 hours ago and I’m done. I loved this story so much. Yeah, I really have no words. If you don’t mind a taboo, non romantic, post apocalyptic, suspenseful read, then this is the perfect book for you.

Mimic is an extremely dark and taboo. Beverly is a unique character that carries us on a twisted adventure. What happens between her and her family is beyond crazy but Colby thinks he can save her. Oh boy was he wrong. Mimic will definitely pull you down a dark hole but you can’t stop reading it. The authors did a incredible job with the storyline. It is definitely five ⭐️.

what in the world

I couldn’t put this down but also it’s a book where you ask yourself “what is happening?!” I enjoyed the dystopian feel and the psychological aspects of the characters. It’s definitely taboo and dark to be warned! But if you like all of that it’s perfect for you!

This is a warning for the one-star-Wandas:
If you aren’t prepared to read a book filled with 10,000 shades of wtf, taboo content and triggering situations then turn back now, darling petal. There is no TW page in the book so I hope you see this. I’ll list what I can recall right here for you.
-Direct blood relatives, like inner circle, doin the bedroom boom-numerous times and not by accident.
-Murder of small humans (and big humans and also unborn humans)
-Body mutilation and preservation and also like…slow death via suffocation and starvation, dismemberment and cannibalism (seriously Wanda, if this isn’t your kind of party, turn around, don’t drown)
-Rape.

Based on the absolute savagery and seriously questionable mental health of every single person involved in this story, I had no idea what the ending was going to look like. I’m surprised but in a pleasant way…?

Whatever, my brain hasn’t rebooted yet but I felt satisfied with the ending. Like the universe righted itself, the bad karma came around and closed the circle.

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦'𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥, 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦.

I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into when I opened this book. This is my first time reading this sort of book/genre and I honestly expected to put it down because it’s not my typical reading material. I was honestly surprised how engrossed I became with this work of CA Rene and Yolanda Olson. It’s by no means a love story, not at all in the slightest bit. If I had to describe everything that I read, it’s dark, mentally unstable, incestuous, cannibalistic, and obsession.

𝘉𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘶𝘯𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘦.

We see the mental decline in each of the characters caused by the toxic radiation from hundreds of years before. The toll it takes both mentally and physically is simply something I cannot describe until you read and finish this book. This story is not for the faint of heart.

What 🤯

What in the 🤯

I literally have no idea how to write this review because I'm just sitting here in awe of the story these two authors have come up with!

It's taboo, it's creepy, it's disturbing, it's depraved but could I put it down? Absolutely not 😂 not sure what that says about me but there we go!

In a post apocalyptic world disease has changed some humans into "The Others" who have to stick to their side of the treaty, and then we have humans who haven't been as affected by the toxic atmosphere but still aren't quite... Right 😂

These characters are absolute Psychos in one way or another, and I just couldn't get enough of this twisted story!

Bravo ladies! This is definitely up there as one of my favourite cowrites 😍

THIS BOOK!! There aren’t enough words to describe my love for this book. The world building and character development in Mimic was so off the charts I was immediately sucked into the story. Yolanda and CA didn’t just start the story they jumped right off the cliff into the darkness! So much fuckery in this book. It was so taboo, hot and commanding, and filled with bits hopes and dreams of survival followed by absolute rage and darkness that is consumed by Bevs’ insanity and Colby’s determination. It obliterated every other book I’ve read this year and is now one of my favorite books I've ever read.

This story….I don’t have enough words for this story! This is not a typical romance and there is not a typical HEA. Heed the TW that are there. I have always been a huge fan of the dark and disturbed. While my friends were reading The Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High books I was delving into Anne Rice and the worlds she created. And this book checked every dark and disturbed box I have. Even the spicy scenes had me wanting more. It is depravity on its basest level and I loved it! The authors will take you down a dark and twisted road to the deepest part of insanity and you will never be the same after having visited it. I don’t think I will ever look at a mannequin the same again.

What a book!!!!

I am generally not a fan of dystopian, but this book blew me away.
Beverly is a hot mess and is defiantly crazy. her love for her daddy Pollyx is defiantly taboo. And she will do everything she can to stop anything and anyone in her way. After a hunting trip where she decides that she will name their town Dollywoodland. And then things get weird. While out on the hunt Colby finds them and wants to know Beverly better.

This book is defiantly dark, extremely taboo and please read the warring this is not for the faint of heart

Good read

Entertaining different and dark. This book isn't like the usual dark read In which is nice and I liked it although, still not my favorite dark read. I didn't like how they didn't fully explain the WHY of the fmc. They give a theory rho so I guess they want to leave some mystery.
