Liam is the eleventh book in Kathy Ivan’s Texas Boudreau Brotherhood series. Ms. Ivan focuses on the second chance at romance tale of Ruby Bright and Liam Boudreau, high school sweethearts. In their last year in high school, Ruby was involved in a deadly accident. Her loss broke Liam’s heart and he never looked at another woman. Then Brian, one of Ms. Patti’s lost boys, gives Liam a photo of an alive Ruby, thus, setting Liam on a quest to find her. Like his other brothers, Lian was in the foster care system, was placed with the Boudreaus, and was adopted by them. Ruby’s mom abandoned her and her stepfather when she was six. Her maternal uncle, a Bratva crime boss, killed her mom and wants a treasure from Ruby. The federal government helps her with a new identity. While Liam was alone and depressed; so was Ruby as she ran from one place to another and one identity to the next. Will Ruby ever be free of her uncle’s criminal web? What will happen when Liam and she finally meet? Does she still have feelings for Liam? Can he forgive her? What does the future hold for them? You must read this book to find out.
Again, Ms. Ivan outdoes herself in this romantic suspense plot. I enjoy her skill in creating complex characters. Readers witness their dreams, strengths, and vulnerabilities. She allows readers to journey along with her characters as they work out their fears and challenges from their past lives. I am fascinated how Ms. Ivan includes different brothers into her plot. I am noticing a new trend with these latest books, Ms. Ivan in introducing the “lost boys” the ones whose stay was intermittent. Doing so allows readers to get to better know each of the Boudreau brothers, their significant others, Douglas and Patti Boudreau, as they appreciate this tight knit, open, and supportive family. Nicely done, Ms. Ivan.
