The untold story of Sherlock Holmes’ greatest rival, Moriarty!

Before he was Sherlock Holmes’s rival, William James Moriarty fought against the unfair class caste system in London by making sure corrupt nobility got their comeuppance. But even the most well-intentioned plans can spin out of control—will his dream of a more just and equal world turn him into a hero…or a monster?

In order to negotiate with Irene Adler in secret, Count Albert Moriarty arranges a masquerade ball at Buckingham Palace. What is the secret contained in the documents Miss Adler stole? And what is she really after? The Lord of Crime, the Great Detective, and the Beautiful Thief battle it out in the shadows of the elegant ball while the fate of the country rests in their hands.

[Chapter 20-23, A Scandal in British Empire Act 4-7]

To be real honest, I’ve been resisting not to give previous volumes 5 stars just because I WANT MOREEE I TRULY WANT MORE

And the way this volume just ✨SERVED✨

The characterisation, especially Sherlock and Irene fleshed out more. Through their shared dialogue, their gesture, their action when everything’s at stake.

Not to forget ‘James Moriarty’ move from the negotiation, the so-called show play and getting Irene on their side is so calculated. Just another proof that they’re professional in dealing with it.

And now, their absolute motive presented just make me feel A LOT of emotions. We basically knew from the start that they’re ready to be killed throughout their plan and I have no idea HOW COMMITTED THEY ARE. We definitely get it now. I just, it’s heartbreaking in sort of way. I am rooting for them.

The ONLY thing that irk me so much is how by the end they revealed Adler’s new name. The level of ‘cringeness’ 101% HHAHAHA. Gosh, I wish my memory just erased on that part.

Overall, I love it so much. And hello, did we now assumed Sherlock already figured out who behind it or what? Aaaaahhh I am so looking forward to read the next volume.

Again rating this higher because I simply always enjoy this series, even if what becomes of Irene Adler makes me burst out laughing every single time. The chapter splash pages are also especially good in this volume - the one of Irene in her undergarments is beautiful and I'm a sucker for "reflection making a different face," like we see in the William splash page.

Loved the introduction of Irene Adler and adored all her interactions with Sherlock! While this storyline was in the anime, there are quite a few scenes, really funny ones too, that never made it to the show, which I think is a shame since those were my favorite scenes!

A fun volume. Looking forward to the next!

I feel like I’m slowly losing interest in this series. Whilst the artwork is something I fully enjoy, I need something more than just people scheming and talking about what they want to do.

I’ll give them credit, since Irene is now with the Moriarty brothers instead of Sherlock, but the whole thing about Britain being the cause of the French Revolution was kinda meh to me. Perhaps is due to my lack of interest in the Old World history as all.

Anyway, Irene is now James Bond, quite literally, lol.

Volume 1 is still the best of the series IMO.

The ending, guys. The ending! Loved that little twist.

I like this take on Sherlock Holmes, with putting the focus on the Moriarty family and their quest. But of course there are Sherlock - who gets his vibe from the modern BBC version for sure - and Watson and Mycroft and Irene Adler and Sebastian Moran, basically every character we connect with Moriarty and Holmes. I highly enjoy this manga and I'm looking forward to more.

Absolutely loved that.
Irene's plot became SO important for the Moriarty's plan in a way I never expected.
The Moriarty's, Sherlock and his brother dancing around each other on tip-toes because of the stuff Irene stole...just brilliant.
Probably my favorite volume so far. I felt like the 'side story' was great but it also helped move the overall plot of the story.
So yeah, just loved this so much.

3... just for that ending and also because every time Moriarty appears he's hot bc I don't agree with the politics "evenly distribute it unlike them french" okay so we're not serious.

Oooh!! This was an excellent volume! Sure, it's mostly people talking deals and explaining their or somebody's else plans to others but the plans and plots are so interesting that I don't mind! And the story is mostly original, so even though there is Irene Adler and a scandal concerning the royalty, the mangaka pair takes it to completely new direction. Which is nice in this case because it's well done and surprises the reader even if they'd know their Sherlock Holmes from front to back and back to front.

And boy, was there a surprise in the end! I won't spoil anything but I LOVED it and I'm eager to see how that will play into the future of the story and the characters.
That wasn't the only twist though and I was surprised to see what direction Moriarty brothers took with their plan and what kind of deal they made! I thought that was intriguing development too. I soooo wanna read more!

I also wasn't super duper keen on Irene Adler in the previous volume but I take that back, this manga's Irene turned out to be quite interesting version of the character.

The art is so nice on the eyes, I really like Miyoshi's clear line and beautiful characters.

Highly recommended! Complex plots, cunning characters and grand plans create a very exciting mix and take on Holmes characters in this manga.

Lil bit disappointed cuz I expected more???
Like idk why they made Sherlock looked so naive in here and Irene wasn't that weak you know!
I think some of the characters are slightly OOT. Hope it does getting better on the next volumes because I already fallen hard for Moran and the Moriarty Men.

Irene Adler’s got a secret, but it isn’t hers, and that’s a problem. That secret could be the ruin of Britain and a Moriarty has been tasked with getting it back and Adler gone. Enter Sherlock Holmes, professional meddler, and some of the most revisionist history (and fiction) in, well, history…

I have to say that this has been a pretty strong arc for a series that oscillates between okay and great with very little middle ground sometimes. Partly this one works because it turns down the depravity and cruelty in favour of absurdity.

Straight into the story, they certainly make less hay out of the costume party where Adler and Albert meet up than I was expecting, using a potentially rich ‘game within a game’ to do little more than set up a meeting. Honestly, it would have bogged down the narrative, but it seems like a whole story could have been spun out of that premise.

Still, there’s an impressive amount of ‘who knows what’ and ‘who is ahead of whom’ and general scheming that makes this a lot of fun. It initially looks like the story is doing very dirty by Irene Adler’s character (even I saw through the hilarious lengths Holmes goes to in his deception), but there’s enough of a hint that she remains sharp as a tack through the conclusion that I’ll allow it.

All in all, it’s a very long storyline that justifies its length by virtue of being decidedly entertaining and moving at a good clip. This version of Holmes is fallible enough that he’s often more interesting than not, even when he’s being a bit of a jerk. His machinations this time are all fairly excellent, but this is clearly not his story, and it’s good that the manga makes it clear.

Of course, this isn’t the only aspect of the storyline and while I appreciate them revealing what was in the documents that were stolen… uh, this won’t be cited in any history papers any time soon, shall we say?

This part is amusingly overwrought, though I don’t doubt the way countries back then were so prickly that it probably could start a war. It’s rather crazy, although everybody plays it utterly straight and somehow the book gets away with it.

Then there’s the very ending, which is even more overwrought, as Irene Adler joins the team, but as an entirely different person, owing to her current circumstances. I give this series some guff, but you can’t fault it’s daring, I grant you that much.

It’s jaw-droppingly audacious (and ludicrous) and it feels like one of those things that could be incredibly divisive for the audience. Honestly, as silly as it is, it fits in with everything (although the dialogue presaging said reveal is absolutely torturous), so, hey, good enough.

4 stars - sometimes I am not in the mood for the antics of the Moriarty clan, sometimes I am, and this time I was. A very solid, utterly preposterous, entry that just goes for it and mostly gets what it’s after.

This volume was great loved everything about it from a great mystery to everything else in the story I loved it all so much. The characters were amazing but I loved Irene and all of the Moriarty brothers the most she is a great character smart in more than one way I also liked how the Moriarty brothers made the story move along and I like Irene's new role looking forward to reading more on that. I loved the plot it picks up where volume 5 left off with a mystery about the royal family and things about death Irene uncovers much with the help of the oldest Moriarty after that Sherlock gets involved other things happen and she is thought to be dead looking forward to reading more soon.

General Comments: The Sixth Volume in the Moriarty the Patriot Series. The Great Detective, Lord of Crimes and Beautiful Thief battle it out in the shadows of the elegant Masquerade Ball, at Buckingham Palace. The negotiation was intense, highlighting the divide amongst the Elite. The puzzling, yet iconic, story is brought to a satisfying wrap-up that deviates from the traditional Doyle style, intertwining the two worlds of James Bond (007) and Sherlock Holmes. The complex plot continues to excite and thrill.
