The problem with episodic books is you are out of the scene when you start reading again. This means that, for me, Penny’s reaction feels a bit over the top at first as she was out my head.
The Christmas scene at Penny’s parents was short but I liked the way the author used it to emphasise how unusual it was for Heather to have anyone notice her practical needs and do something about it.
Of course it is left on a cliff hanger, not new news to us the reader, but more the fact there is more to come, but it ended before we got to it.
Do I want to find out what the secret is? Yes! Although this episode and the last were rated as 3, this is okay as most books are not 4 or 5 throughout and tend to ebb and flow.
