Lessons in Love Book 5 - Hope, Not Hurt, Shapes the Future: An Age Gap Lesbian Romance by Scarlett Grace: The entire Lessons in Love series was good. Book 5 became a rare treat. Instead of dealing with outside issues to add unnecessary angst, Scarlett Grace took a left turn, cleared all the problems off the deck, and focused on the love relationship between these women who worked hard to be where they are at the end of the book. It was lighthearted and definitely a HEA. I think once in a while it is nice to find that love need not be complicated it can just be. I was really pleased that someone could make romance just romance. Love this one and will now reread the series. 5 stars and then some.
I don’t recommend Scarlett Grace’s Lessons in Love series; Grace has other books that better deserve your time.
The characters’ back stories are only shallowly alluded to. With such little information about their backgrounds, I couldn’t buy into their intense attraction to each other, let alone imagine they could forge a lasting relationship. My distrust stemmed from the professor’s unethical decision to become involved with her student, not because of their age difference.
On a technical note, I question why Grace dissected the story into five parts; it interrupted the pace of the plot and diluted my interest.
Also, the amount of convoluted phrasing, poor grammar and typos in the first installment, compared to the subsequent four, made me question if the same writer (or editor?) crafted all five books.
I was waiting for a great ending to this story and I was not disappointed. I have rooted for this sweet couple from the beginning. I especially wanted Professor Heather to live a happy life with the woman she loved. I do love happy endings!! I do not want to spoil anything but so glad that a certain someone who made Professor Heather miserable is of no consequence now!!
