When Bear & Mandy Logan’s travels take them to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, they expect to settle in for a quiet winter on the barrier island. But when a mysterious man shows up harassing their elderly neighbors, Bear can’t stop himself from getting involved. His search for answers soon leads him to more shocking discoveries as he realizes the small town where he spent summers as a kid holds more secrets than he could have imagined.
Working with a rag-tag group of locals after an explosion takes out the only road back to the mainland, Bear finds himself the target of a vicious organized crime group who want the island for themselves.
With no trusted allies in sight, Bear races against the clock to take the group down before they destroy those Bear cares most about.

Another compelling read by K.M. Rought!! Though it takes a bit for the main characters (namely Bear) to see the broader view of what’s going on (while we, as an audience, have a good idea about it for most of the book), the way that all of the pieces are uncovered and exposed adds such delicious tension to everything going on.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Mandy in this one, just because she was actually acting like a dumb 13 year old (and her age is always something I forget about given what she’s been through), and I wish she and Bear had more interactions. But, by the end, they’re set up pretty well relationship-wise for whatever comes next.
I’ve got the sequel on my nightstand and look forward to diving in soon!
I would also say, a bit average, defiantly not a spell binder. I had a hard time getting into this story line. The fight at the motel was unbelievable, tied to a chair, five to one ratio, inconceivable.
I had a hard time getting into this book but I wanted to finish it. I really liked the first one in this series so I wanted to like this one. It wasn’t as good but it was ok. Just slow. I like Bear and Mandy. Father daughter duo. But I do hope one day they can stop running and find a place to stay and be happy.
As usual L.T. put together another great Bear and Mandy story!!! It went back to Bears root as a kid and brought some history out about him to Mandy. But par usual with kids she gets herself in trouble in the middle of Bear trying to figure out what was going on in Cape Hatteras. But he meant Rosie got close to her but then the plot unravel from there. Between what happened with her brother and the other drug dealing that was going on was made to be an excellent book !!!! 10 stars plus !!!! Thanks, Carl Clause
This story about Bear and Mandy would make a great made for T.V. movie! It had a enough excitement, interesting intrigue, action and a bit of romance to the plot to be enjoyable. Not to mention a teachable moment for Mandy that I believed had become defining movement in her growth. Bear also I believed had a bit a growth curve throw in his acceptance of Sasha deaths. Both Bear and Mandy experience a life changing event that will on serve to make them better! Guest they don't really need Jack Noble to have an exciting life. Great story!
This was my first introduction to Bear and Mandy, but it didn't take long to figure out what was going on. Bear was a protective father and Mandy was a teen wanting to test the boundaries. Super-imposed on this background was a very dangerous cabal of South American drug runners who wanted to establish a safe location to off-load their submersibles in a secluded town on the North Carolina coast and if anyone got in their way, well, too bad for them!
It's a good adventure story for Mandy and her friend Jenny. The other storyline is Bear being Bear. He uncovers a criminal element that threatens to destroy the fondness he has for his hometown. I generally don't read stories where kids play a role in the story. My fondness for Bear's character and talented writing of authors Ryan & Rought kept me reading. I'm not sure I will stay with this series.
After reading the first book in this series, I chose the next one. Sorry I did. Very liberal usage of profanity turned me off to this author.....why do you feel the need for all the profanity? Including the F word and using the Lord's name in profanity among much more. I choose to read books that are not laced with profanity....it adds absolutely nothing to the story.
Bear is unbelievable, honorable, emphatic, trustworthy, strong, loves his daughter, likes to go ish what he starts. Could you ask for anything else? This finds them in Hatterras, NC, where drug smuggling, and corruption is trying to take over the town and they don't care how they do it. Great job. Thank you!
Bear and Mandy have been living on Hatteras for a few months. Mandy and her new friend Jenny find a small submersible and decide to spend the night on it. A storm comes up and sucks them offshore. Meanwhile the owners of the sub, drug runners are trying to take over the town. Mayhem follows. ENJOY,
As always a great story line from Ryan and Rought. Could not put this story down. When you get to the end of a chapter you are left hanging every time, got totally lost and caught up in the story. Only bad thing is I have to wait till December to get book 3. Thanks for writing a great story.
Enjoyable, but kind of repetitive. Not quite Jack Noble, but far improved, imo, from Mitch Tuner.
At 14, considering all she's encountered, considering all she's learned from Bear, you'd think Mandy would be more cautious about roaming about alone, particularly when see's something off. Its kind of hard to accept "girl just wants to have fun' teenager after all she's been through.
It's another good book in Bear and Mandy Logan series.
I'm starting to wonder if I should read the Bear Logan books first.
Enjoyed the book. But seems a simple formula. Bear gets involved through others in a problem. Which he solves fighting people in process. Mandy does teenage girl things and they move on.
I like the banter between Bear and Mandy which is so much of the pleasure of these books. Bear’s fights, although mostly in self defence are too frequent. He’s a bright lad and could be a ”do-gooder” with his brain rather than his fists. Hence only 4 stars.
Another great book from this author. The story line keeps you guessing and reading. The characters are well developed and believable. I preordered the next book in the series. Do yourself a favor read this series from the beginning.
The author has written a very riveting and intriguing story deception, drug smuggling and murder that will keep you entertained and guessing as to where the story will take you next. Very enjoyable and entertaining reading.
A gripping story that is well told and as you read it there are questions that keep you glued to the book. Bear and Mandy make an interesting family Dynamic. Looking forward to what challenge they face next.
I loved the twists and turns the story line takes! Each time you think you have part of it figured out, the story goes a completely different direction. Can't wait for the next one in the series!
Another great story about bear and Mandy who defy all odds to get to the bottom of the plot. Reminds me a lot of BenPorter in his four books , false assurances, threat bias, subversive addiction and vital deception.
Returning to a place from your past is never the.experience.we think it is supposed to be. I did like the fact that it is like that for others too. This is the typical "Near and Mandy" adventure I O have enjoyed before.
I like reading the Bear and Mandy series. Everyone makes mistakes and some days are good and some are bad. Bear lives on to fight another day with Mandy by his side.
I like this storyline and the main characters. It'll be interesting to see what Ryan does going forward. I'm sure it won't be just the same story in a different town. Enjoyed it a lot and look forward to more.
Bear and Mandy have been through so much hardship what they are dealing with now is almost tame in comparison. For the people they are helping they are lifesavers! Looking forward to the next book.
What should have been a sweet transition to a small coastal town in the winter, turned violent and violence follows bear and Mandy around like a bad smell. Glad they love and support each other as they need it
It's a nice feeling when you pick up a book that you just know is going to be good.
This book is no different. I was looking forward to reading it, and most times when you do that you find that the book is a let down. I have yet to be let down by these guys.
I just love the Bear and Mandy mystery series. Lots of excitement and it’s good to feel the love they have for each other. Looking forward to #3 in the series!
Bear and Mandy move to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where Bear had spent many happy summers as a child. Something is amiss, as Bear soon learns and, of course, he gets deeply involved in getting to the bottom of the troubles. Great story.
Bear and Mandy are forces to be reckoned with. Don't underestimate their smarts and cunning abilities to protect those they love. Another page turner that will keep you on your toes. Looking forward to their next big adventure!
A dad & daughter are always moving because they get too involved in their community and risk their lives. So it's not safe for them to remain living there.
