"Pluto & the Mythic Dimension is a new essay by mythologist and essayist LD Deutsch. In it, Deutsch traces the synchronistic parallels between the mythologies of the Roman god Pluto (and his Greek counterpart Hades), the history and cultural implications of the discovery of the planet Pluto, and the discovery of the element Plutonium and dropping of the atom bomb. The essay also investigates Pluto’s archetypal role in the unconscious as well as its symbolic and astrological significance." --Sacred Bones
Decent overall and I particularly liked the question raised about how parallel between the recent pictures of the black hole and the discovery of Pluto may affect people's consciousness. Also, just a really fascinating topic.
But I thought some of the conclusions were reached very thinly and a lot of the astrological stuff was skirted past too much to add anything. I did not disagree with the author's idea of radical acceptance but I found their interpretation of it was too passive for the times set out in the conclusion.
Would love to see this fleshed out into something longer and more developed
Cool perspective on the emerging awareness of Pluto as a planet in the 30s and historical events which synchronously occur and reflect the qualities of Pluto the mythical figure. Good read.
