A bit about me: NYT/WSJ/USAT International bestselling author Melanie Moreland, lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of lots of lovely years and their rescue cat, Amber. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them. While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also enjoys travelling, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip. Melanie loves stories, especially paired with a good wine, and enjoys skydiving (free falling over a fleck of dust) extreme snowboarding (falling down stairs) and piloting her own helicopter (tripping over her own feet.) She's learned happily ever-afters, even bumpy ones, are all in how you tell the story.

An Unexpected Chance is book six in the Insta-Spark Collection by Melanie Moreland. This is a steamy, fairly short romance about two people that have both been hurt but in each other, find a second chance at the love they always dreamed of. If they are willing to take the risk and jump. You don’t need to have read any of the previous books to enjoy this one. It can be read as a complete stand alone.
Simon Fletcher is a forty two year old single father to his adorable eight year old daughter, Mia. He has decided that he and his daughter need a fresh start and moved them to the small town of Cliff’s Edge in Nova Scotia. Simon’s ex wife is a cold hearted, money grubbing woman who had no interest in being a mother to little Mia. Simon was hurt deeply by her actions and never thought he’d be able to trust his heart again but when he met Amy, he started to wonder if it might be time to try.
Amy McNeil is an adorable kindergarten teacher, a bit of a free spirit. She is a beautiful woman who cares deeply and wears her heart on her sleeve. Amy has also been hurt by an ex-boyfriend who made her feel as if she wasn’t enough. Her self confidence was shaken and she’s reluctant to open her heart to that sort of possible hurt again.
Amy falls fast and hard for both Simon and his sweet little girl and the same happens for Simon. Both fear what could happen if this falls apart but it’s worth the risk. In each other, they see a glimpse of what love could truly be like. But there is a little girl to consider in all of this. A little girl who also yearns for a mother.
This was so sweet. I loved the relationship between Simon and his daughter. Simon fell fast and hard for Amy and their chemistry was scorching. We also get to visit with two couples from previous books, Dylan and Alex from book two, Christmas Sugar, and Evan and Holly from book four, An Unexpected Gift. I loved spending time with these characters again. I was also touched by the transformation of a secondary character in this book and Amy’s involvement in helping that along. You never know how things are going to affect you and for some reason, in this book, that got to me. If you want a heart warming story that will make you feel all the warm and fuzzies, then this book or any of the books in this series is most definitely for you.
I read the original story when it was released so I already knew I loved Simon and Amy. But this version with an added 12 chapters… more scenes, more steam, more everything had hooked me once again. The author did a great job adding to Simon and Amy’s story seamlessly. They definitely had more of their story to share and the author did phenomenal adding to their already heartwarming journey. I couldn’t put this one down as Simon was just as swoony, if not more so. I enjoyed every minute of this story with all the added scenes and words. The author penned such a captivating read. She never fails to capture my attention from the opening pages to the very end. And the extended bonus epilogue is all sorts of perfection. It makes my heart so full and my love for the pair grew ten fold. Simon and Amy deserved their hea, and this refreshing, low angst, insta-love read floored me. Another great release by Melanie Moreland, she has once again proven why she is one of my top one-click authors.
I don’t know how Melanie Moreland does it but every book I read that she writes becomes my favorite.
I absolutely love this story. Simon the hot single caring and loving dad, and then you have the wildly lovely Amy who is a teacher and friend to the family he found. It literally is a match made in even. But wait then you had Mia in the mix, and she might just steal a little bit of the show. I love Mia, Simon’s daughter, so sweet and wise beyond her years. It is so enjoyable to read the interactions between them all.
An Unexpected Chance (Insta-Spark 6) By Melanie Moreland
I loved it when out of the blue; a new Melanie Moreland Insta-Spark story appeared last spring but what I loved even more is that the author has added 12 new chapters that have expanded what was already a perfect insta-love story.
I remember meeting Simon and Mia when I read Evan and Holly’s love story, so rereading it again now and having more story to enjoy was just the ice cream added to Simon’s favourite Blueberry pie!
Simon is dad to a beautiful daughter eight year old Mia who he has been raising on his own. Mia’s mother walked away from her family. Simon and Mia recently moved to Cliff’s Edge and he and Mia are starting a new life. When he met Holly’s best friend Amy, sparks begin to fly and both Amy and Simon can feel what’s in the air, will they become more than just friends?
As the sparks turn into heat for Amy and Simon we readers get to see how wonderfully cheeky and funny eight year olds can be, especially when they have an Uncle Evan who was willing to talk about a lot of things with his niece, like dating rules, when grown-ups kiss and how a certain teacher would make a wonderful mother.
You will laugh and you will stand side by side with Simon and Amy and Mia when the last person Simon wants to see shows up in the most random place.
What’s even better is my favourite lawyer from Moreland’s Vested Interest shows up it’s all readers can ask for!
Author Melanie Moreland has given readers a sweet, witty, love story to turn our winter blues into a delightful read that warms your heart and makes you smile.
I love Melanie’s stories! This was a reread with added content and I loved it even more!! Short, sweet and sassy! Life is never easy, especially for a single parent. Simon has always put his daughter, Mia, first in life. He thought he found love once but life definitely did not go his way. So when life brings him a lovely lady, he isn’t sure he can put his heart and Mia’s out there to be broken. Amy knows what she wants but she is very unsure of herself. But when life brings her together with Simon and Mia? She just might get what she wants! Sweet little insta-love story!!
I love this book so much!! It's pure sunshine and happiness with a couple of dark clouds thrown in to keep you on your toes. And the heat!! Ooooh, it's scorching!! Simon and Amy are what relationship goals are made of, but little Mia will steal your heart. She is an absolute gem! I also love that this story takes place in my home province!! Those ocean views are epic! Makes a girl feel a little homesick. If you haven't read this when it was previously published, before the extra goodies were thrown in, you definitely need to read it now. You got a craving for that InstaSpark? Simon and Amy will fix you up!
This time with 12 more chapters and totally new feelings to this instaspark love story. Falling in love with Simon and Amy was so so good! And Mia brings more joy and emotions to their relationship for sure. I love how Simon fall head over heels for her. You are going to be all swooning with everything Simon says to her. I love how Amy is a little reserved with her decision to love them but she failed, falling in love with them in every moment shared. Mia is a really special girl. Her personality brings the perfect happiness and more love to their romance. I want Simon braided my hair please! I love his relation with Mia and how they include Amy in everything. She fits perfectly in their family. Their HEA is so romantic and sweet and perfect.
Evan and Holly here makes me want to read their story again. And certain Vested Interest characters was here too, it was so perfect!!!
***Review March 2022***
Melanie is definitely the best at instalove romance! An Unexpected Chance is now one of my favorites. Simon and Amy had the perfect connection to grown a beautiful relationship. The romance the passion are amazing. Just the perfect family to fall in love for.
Do not let the fact that this book is part of the InstaSpark series fool you or put you off because this story has a mighty heart and offers up mega feels and swoon. This is a re-release that adds 12 brand new chapters into the mix to create a book that takes aim at your heart and scores a direct bullseye. Simon and Amy's romance was truly a delight! Plenty of powerful emotions, lots of steam, ample helpings of cuteness and sweetness and a bit of drama combine with these loveable characters to give you a read that is a heartwarming, swoon-fest that will have you smiling and chuckling as it tugs on your heartstrings. I am posting an unbiased, unsolicited review.
I always say that Ms. Moreland does a fabulous job when it comes to these Insta-Spark novellas, but when she expanded this edition we get 12 more chapters which means more "feels" and more emotions and just more of the incomparable Melanie Moreland! When I first read An Unexpected Chance when it was just a short story, I was amazed at how invested I could get in characters in such a short time, but it shouldn't have surprised me because I always feel like I know these people right from the first chapter. Simon and Amy are delightful and I adored Mia - what a sweet, smart little girl. I love how Simon fall head over heels for her! Melanie also has a way of writing children that just melt your heart and give you all the feels. Another thoroughly enjoyable read by the one and only Melanie Moreland! I'm very grateful to have been given an opportunity to read an early copy of this book.
Update: Wow! I originally read this book in May 2022. It was a sweet, insta love story. This book was made so much better with 12 additional chapters and a deeper look into Simon and Amy's romance. I was immersed in the cozy feel that Melanie Moreland gives her readers, the sense of family and belonging. Simon, Amy and Mia make a beautiful family. FYI... I HATE GLITTER! IYKYK!
Original: What a sweet, sweet insta love story! This was a quick read with all the feels. Simon and Amy’s relationship builds quickly, and their love is realized very early on. Throw in Simon’s daughter, Mia for some added cuteness. Great job Melanie Moreland with this feel good, heart warming story!!
Can I even express how much I loved this story. Simon is everything I want in a single father. His daughter is his world and his world definitely revolves around her. And his daughter? She is wise beyond her 8 years. She is the first to see what her father is lacking. Simon’s attraction to Amy is pure but his past relationship makes him hesitant to start anything with anyone else. I love Amy. She also has a past that has shaped her. But she is willing to put herself out there with Simon. Their road is not smooth but their journey is so worth every word.
Simon is a sexy, swoony single dad to eight year old Mia. They just moved to Cliff's Edge, where he meets Amy, a teacher at his daughter's school and is the same friend circle. The attraction is instant, but both try to deny it at first, which didn't last long. This story is filled with swoony, heartwarming, and funny moments along with just a tiny amount of angst. I honestly couldn't get enough of this couple and adorable Mia. She did steal the show, but it only made the story that much more wonderful!!
Don’t believe in perfect Love? Well, you haven’t met Simon and Amy.
Simon and Amy have a perfect love in An Unexpected Chance by Melanie Moreland. Perfect, you question? No one’s love is perfect. Perfection doesn’t exist. Oh my friends, it certainly does.
Simon is an amazing man and father, but he is afraid to love. Amy is a bright, beautiful, and unique woman. Amy appears so confident and sure of herself, but deep inside she questions her unique personality. Together they make each other stronger and more confident in who they are and what they have as a couple and a family.
Don’t miss your chance to read and have a real love story that you will want to read over and over for years to come.
Looking for a book that is like a Hallmark movie with a little bit of spice?!? Then this is it!! Simon and his daughter Mia are going to burrow their way into your heart.
I love an insta-love trope because it warms my heart especially after reading a heavier romance book. When Simon runs into Amy at the grocery store you could just feel the puzzle pieces click together. They interacted like they had always known each other. It warmed the hopeless romantic in me.
Even when panic stepped in you knew it would work out because they just worked. Their road had twists and turns and I was here for it!! I loved Amy’s inner Mama Bear and I loved how Simon just wanted to protect them all. (Sigh). I really loved this heartwarming love story.
I love this series of instaspark love stories by Melanie Moreland and this one didn't disappoint. It was a lovely story of love and connection and your taken on a lovely 😍 journey as Simon and Amy get to their hea.I loved the extra epilogues xxx As usual with Melanie's books it leaves you with a great warm fuzzy feeling .A great must read book xxxx
A small town, a reluctant single dad, a free spirited teacher and a precocious little girl....
An Unexpected Chance gives us all the steam and little angst that we've come to love from the Insta spark collection. I'm so happy Simon got his long awaited happily ever after!!
*edited* Re-rewied Well my wish came true and Melanie gave us more pages of this sweet story!!
We have 12 new chapters!! The added chapters are wonderful and make this book even better.
Amy and Simon are sweet and they are perfect for each other. Their mutual love and their love for Mia is heartwarming.
This book is a perfect mix of fun, love, passion, friendship.. all this keeps you hooked until the end.
*end edition* --------------------------- This is a short but very sweet story.. it has all ingredients a book needs to keep me hooked , love, passion, hot male character, tons of sugar and happy ending. As always Melanie writing allows you to connect with the characters and live the story with them.
I loved the book buuuuuuuut i would have liked that the book had around 400 pages more.. ;)
If you love a single parent romance it really doesn't get any sweeter than this, truly. The main characters all have those special qualities we look for when we need a book to sink into with low drama and lots of love. Amy the kindergarten teacher is free spirited and kind always willing to look beyond what we might see if she thinks she can help. Simon our single dad, who is absolutely wonderful, he is attentive, affectionate, cautious but doesn't smother. He's a great dad. Mia is the eight year old who almost steals the show and you can't not fall in love with her, she's hilarious and sweet and too wise for her years. Throw in a small town atmosphere, a community where everyone knows your name, a great group of friends and family, and Simon Says you are definitely going to enjoy this book. I have voluntarily left this review.
I loved the original release of An Unexpected Chance, but this version has 12 additional chapters that gives you so much more to love! Simon and Amy's love story is beautifully written and captivates you with each and every word. I highly suggest picking up a copy of this book! An Unexpected Chance by Melanie Moreland is an EPIC read that will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
An unexpected chance at a second chance to love and falling in love after a marriage turned out not to be the dream one that he wished for. After a failed marriage, Simon is trying to make a better and new life for him and his daughter. He’s not going far away from family and friends but the move will bring a fresh start when he least expect. Amy is a free spirited person, the teacher of his daughter and their interactions are sweet and swoon worthy. There’s no happy life without a few bumps on the road to that happily ever after and those come in the form of his ex wife who’s back for trouble. There’s chemistry, great banter and lots of feel good vibes in this story. It all makes for a great small town romance that many readers will enjoy.
Melanie Moreland once again proves that her Insta-spark love stories cannot be beat. Single dad Simon is worried that his little girl is missing out on not having a mom in her life. Amy is the teacher at Simon's daughter's school that he instantly feels a connection with. Throughout the short story the reader is taken on an emotional heart warming story that puts a smile on their faces and happiness in their hearts. Absolutely loved it.
If you’re chasing a sweet as blueberry pie and ice-cream story with low angst then this is for you! Great to see two people who’d been hurt in the past take a chance on love again. First in this series I’d read, but it did it matter at all!
Thanks to Grey’s Promotions for the early copy for review.
An Unexpected Chance by Melanie Moreland is another sweet insta-love romance that will leave you with a smile on your face. I never read the previous version of the story, so I'm not sure what the added chapters were - or the differences from the original - but Amy and Simon were a cute couple to read about. I enjoyed the connection they had from the beginning, but I didn't totally feel the spark between them like I usually do with couples from this author. I did think they were perfect for one another, especially after seeing her mama bear protectiveness come out when it came to Simon's daughter Mia (who I thought was the best part of the whole story).
The author does a great job with the insta-love trope, as I've loved plenty of her previous titles. This one is truly a super sweet and swoony story, and I think it was just a case of the right story, wrong time for me.
A sweet story (spin off from An Unexpected Gift) where a single dad finds his happy ending. I always feel warm and fuzzy after a Melanie Moreland book, they are my safe place ❤️
Melanie Moreland filled my heart with warm cozy sweet feels in An Unexpected Chance. And the spice was shining too! This small town single parent romance was all kinds of swoony and sizzling hot.
Simon had a disastrous marriage with a hateful woman but he also got the greatest joy of his life out of that marriage. His daughter Macie. He has moved to the small town near his brother in law and family and there he meets Amy. The bohemian free spirited teacher who is also his sister in law's best friend. They have an instant spark but it took a bit of time for Simon to make a move.
It was a straightforward uncomplicated love story. It was almost on side of insta-lust and insta-love. It was all about feel good romance. Simon is older and mature and he is definitely all charm and swoon. He pursued Amy wholeheartedly and he didn't ever hesitate to show her that she is the one. It was refreshing to see that his bitter marriage didn't stop him from falling in love again. He is an incredible father and Macie is just way too cute and adorable. Amy is a colourful character. Her unique style, her sweet and sassy personality, her big heart..everything makes her an amazing heroine. They instantly clicked together and we get to see them going to all kinds of swoony adventures. Simon is such a gentleman and awesome lover but in bedroom..they turn into this nuclear hot couple! I loved the small town and all the secondary characters. Overall it was an enjoyable read.
This is book 6 in the Insta-Spark Series. Simon and Amy's story is so sweet and heartwarming. Simon's daughter Mia is so cute! This is a beautifully written second chance at love, and I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to the audiobook version of the story.
This story is a new one for me since I hadn’t yet found this gifted storyteller when it was previously published. I love this series because instalove eliminates some of the conflict and angst found in most romance. Instead, we focus on the individual characters, their growth, and the relationship development.
Simon Fletcher thought he had his one chance at love, but the only thing positive that came out of that doomed relationship was his sweet daughter, Mia. After leaving the big city and moving to a small town to be near his found family, he and Mia are both happier. The lovely Amy McNeil is part of their circle of friends, but if Simon gets his way, she'll become so much more.
Amy is the polar opposite of Simon's ex-wife. She's a free-spirited, sunny, compassionate person and adores the children she teaches. She's not looking for a relationship, but there's something Irresistible about Simon and his daughter.
Sweet, steamy and light on angst, this one captivated me from the first page. With a touch of dramatic danger and loads of heart, it hits all the right notes to make it the perfect reading escape.
This is the second time round for this book but not only have we got a shiny new cover, but we have 12 additional chapters from its first iteration. Having not read the book previously, I can’t say how much these new chapters change the original story - but 12 chapters is a lot so it’s definitely going to be more fleshed out.
This is part of the Insta-Spark series which is a set of quick and sweet standalone stories where the sparks fly instantly. It’s kind of like a more believable insta-love type story. There’s almost zero angst, little drama but still deliciously sexy times and a heavy dose of happiness, love and warm feelings.
Our couple, Simon and Amy, have already met by the time our story starts, but we arrive just as they start to take things to the next level. Simon has just moved to Cliff’s Edge, a small town outside Halifax, NS, with his daughter. My sister also lives in a small town outside Halifax so I got needlessly excited by the setting.
Simon is the kind of single-dad hero that I’m sure are only found in romance novels. He’s hot, kind, smart, caring and adores his young daughter with every fibre of his being. He’s been hurt in the past which means I easily forgave him for his stupidity at the start of his and Amy’s relationship. Luckily Amy forgave him, too! Apart from that minor blip he’s just perfection and when he falls for Amy he falls hard. It’s divine.
Amy is described as more of a wild child than Simon - but she’s really just a sweet, kind and fun girl. She also has her issues but they’ve helped her see what she will and won’t put up with. It was hard not to fall in love with her, too, especially as she was falling in love with both Simon and his sweet daughter, Mia.
Like I said, there is almost zero angst or drama in this story - just one thing really, which is dealt with in the middle of the story so it’s not the main focus. Instead, to me, this read like the perfect kind of epilogue. It was a simple tale of a couple who meet, date, have a few blips, but ultimately fall in love and become a family.
There’s still a fair amount of sex and shenanigans in the story which heats it up nicely. I’m all for the good times but I must not be one for potential discovery as the scene in the woods almost had me palpitating in fear of them being caught!
I already a die-hard fan of Ms Moreland’s but these kind of Insta-Spark stories just feel like a warm hug. They’re optimistic, fun, sweet, sexy and ultimately make me feel hopeful and happy. Couple with that the writing, which is exemplary as per usual, and we’ve got another winner here that I’m happy to give 5 stars to and very much recommend.
An Unexpected Chance is a sweet love story by Melanie Moreland. It is book six in her Insta-Spark Collection but can be read as a standalone. An endearing and heartwarming tale about Simon Fletcher and Amy McNeil. Simon was a side character in An Unexpected Gift #4 and readers asked Melanie to give him a HEA. Simon and Amy were both hurt in their previous relationships so can this unexpected chance at happiness be a second chance at love for them.
Simon is a single dad to the adorable and funny Mia. He is recovering from his marriage to Kelsey, a cruel woman who was only interested in his money and wanted nothing to do with her daughter. Her brother used to send a present to Mia every year and she was curious about her Uncle Evan so Simon took her to visit him. Simon was envious of the simple and happy life Evan, Holly and their family lived so he decided to move to Cliff’s Edge, Nova Scotia for a fresh start.
Amy is a Kindergarten teacher who is smart, funny and a bit quirky. She has lost her confidence due to the awful treatment of her ex-boyfriend. She is best friends with Holly and had first met Simon at one of their family barbecues. She was attracted to him straight away because he was charming and polite.
He had noticed her but didn’t make a move because he knew he wasn’t ready for a new relationship. One day while he was doing the shopping they bumped into each other and the sparks ignited. He and Mia had settled in well and he felt he was now ready to try. They get to know each other and he feels they are meant to be together. He finds her refreshingly honest and genuine, the complete opposite to Kelsey. She finds him fascinating and incredibly sexy.
“She makes your heart show in your eyes, Daddy. I like it when I see your heart.”
He wants to take it slowly due to Mia but the passion between them changes everything. Their relationship escalates but problems arise when he is scared at how much he likes her. When he makes a mess of things can he persuade Amy to give him another chance? Then can he keep her when his past comes crashing back into his life.
It was lovely catching up with Dylan and Alexis from book #2 - Christmas Sugar. If you have read #4 then you will have met Evan and Holly and know of their history with Simon and his ex wife Kelsey. All the family interactions between the adults and the children were fantastic. I loved the moments between Evan and Holly with Mia, especially the explanation Holly gives her about dating! Some of the scenes with Mia cracked me up so it was so sad Kelsey wanted nothing to do with her, she is one a special young lady. The more I read the book, the better it got. Simon certainly ramps up the romance and Amy was a delight that they deserved their HEA. This low angst, insta-love story will leave you with all the feels.
I’m a lover of all things Melanie Moreland and when I read the synopsis for this book I was so excited to read it. When it showed up on my kindle I dove right in and honestly it was a slow start for me and I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t love it, so I put it to the side for a couple of days. And when I went back to it, I can happily say that my mind was changed and I devoured this one in one sitting.
I’m a sucker for a good insta-love story and Simon and Amy are a perfect example of what I love about them. They recognize their draw to each other and aren’t afraid to explore those feelings. Their story didn’t come without the right amount of drama which in my mind just made the story that much better because love isn’t perfect no matter how right a person is for you.
Simon’s daughter Mia is so sweet and cute and the relationship she has with her Dad is so wonderful filled with so much love. She’s a perfect addition to their love story. Watching her relationship with Amy blossom was really beautiful. When you add in their extended family to this book, I was in reader heaven.
