Everything I know about hockey comes from this book. The book starts off really strong and kind of wanes off in quality as it goes on, she added less plot and more smut along with a few plot points that seemed a bit less believeable and more fan-service in the last third of the story. That being said I read it all in one day and loved it. You can defineitly skip a lot of the R-rated scenes (particularly closer to the end of the book) and not miss any plot or characterization. I loved the oc's!

Sweater Weather was one of my first HP fanfiction reads and is my favorite wolfstar fanfic. Reading some of the reviews here and seeing that people found it boring and fetishy was a bit of a shock to me. I will say that if you know nothing about hockey/the culture surrounding the sport then you most likely will not enjoy this fanfic. Personally, I grew up with a dad and brother who absolutely loved hockey and now my whole family goes to hockey games. I'm also a fan of the webcomic "Check, please!" which has a familiar setting to that of Sweater Weather. So yeah, I am obviously more likely to enjoy a fanfic about hockey than those who have no interest in the sport and were bored by the setting of the story.

Reading the MLM fetishization claims prompted me to reread the story as I didn't really pick up on that in my previous reads. For me, fetishization of gay male characters is when the character is reduced to a stereotype and loses their personality traits to satisfy this stereotype. Just because a story includes a lot of sex doesn't mean its fetishy. Lots of love stories include sex scenes, especially in the fan fiction category. This story does not even revolve around the sex part of the fic. Sweater Weather is a story about internalized homophobia and implementing change in an unaccepting community such as the NHL. I cannot stress how possible stories like Sirius's exist in the league; even though the NHL has released statements about their support of the LGBTQ+ community, homophobia still runs rampant and there is currently only one openly gay player I can think of (Luke Prokop of the Nashville Predators who came out in 2021, years after this fanfic was completed). When I reread I still had the same feelings for the story: the sex does not matter in the plot and isn't written in a way to fetishize the characters.

So yeah, I absolutely love this story and if the sex makes you uncomfortable, it's extremely easy to skip these parts and you won't be missing anything. If you're into stories about love triumphing and exploring the complications of coming out to the public, then this story is for you.

The absolute best Alternate Universe, modern era fanfiction I read. Read it for the first time when it was still unfinished back in 2020 and after the Author finished it I read it again. What can I say, just a great read with gripping plot, lovable characters, some unexpected character developments and wholesome scenes.
Already really looking forward to new updates on the sequel...

This had promise after reading the first chapter, but the fetishized m/m relationships and porn for porn’s sake really turned me off. It’s possible to write OC’s and good queer plot lines without turning everything into fetishization for the female gaze.

I put this off for so long bc i hated a forced coming out so much, but i’m glad i picked it back up again. I could see why people said it fetishized mom yikes….(i just skipped those scenes honestly i really just wanted more plot). I really loved the hockey atmosphere 😩😩

I could not stop reading, even as my body begged me for sleep, knowing I had work in the morning.... I couldn't stop reading. I got SO invested in all the other characters, which i have to say is quite a feat considering there's many and that they all are referred to by different names and nicknames and nicknames of nicknames. But I never felt like I had to make an effort to understand who was who - by the time I needed to, I already knew because of constant exposure to them and their antics and, eventually, their drama.

And THEN. Plot twists upon plot twists.

They family themes had me very soft; found family and mending family relationships and supportive, loving family.

No spoilers !!! but the ending, too, had me very soft. Might reread this later on, because I'm sure there was a lot I'm gonna be able to appreciate the second time around.

Oh, and of course. Possibly the biggest feat. I'm looking up Hockey things right now. Wow.
