Death waits for no one, unless you’re a necromancer, in which case he might stop for a cup of tea and a chat.
I didn’t ask to be a necromancer, and I certainly didn’t ask to be saddled with a magical amulet holding an ancient big bad at bay.
I got both.
All I want to do is steer clear of trouble, write horror novels, and hang with my talking cat.
But the spell on my amulet is weakening, and the only way to sustain it is to pick up and go to Frostgate—a city built on a powerful convergence of ley lines.
The plan is to lay low and wait for a revelation that’ll lead me to my conduit, my perfect match, to help me to sustain the spell on the lock.
But there is no laying low at Grave Spirits MC. No avoiding the burning stares of the hellhound Vice President, the icy cool assessment of the undead Sergeant at Arms, or the warm amber gaze of the hellhound Club Secretary.
I can’t get involved with any of them. I have a perfect mate to find.
But for the first time in my life steering clear of trouble is the last thing I want to do.
Death Warden is a standalone reverse harem novel that can be read independently from the shared world. It features a kick ass heroine, alpha heroes, a talking cat, a big bad in need of a smack down, and enough humour, action and romance to keep you flipping the pages.
MC Syndicates is a shared universe, crafted by a set of USA Today and International Bestselling authors, that feature an array of paranormal species, savage dominant men, and strong heroines. These stories are all set in the same world and can be read within any order.
MC Syndicates by the following authors: Inferno by R.L. Caulder and M. Sinclair Death Warden by Debbie Cassidy Sin and Salvation by Cate Corvin and Melora François Dark Paradise by Ann Denton and Katie May Rapture by Mila Young and CR Jane Stone Will by Albany Walker

3 stars. So. The first half of this book was just bullshit, and if it had been different my rating would’ve been much higher than it is. That first half has four other woman encounters. Three of which were sexual, two of those three we get details for, and two of them were replacements for the FMC. The first one was just completely unnecessary and had zero reason to be there. The second was a replacement quicky immediately after encountering the FMC. The third was off page but also a replacement scenario and thrown in the FMCs face. The fourth was a little more palatable, just being some time spent with an arranged fiancée, but still. I abhor this shit and it drastically and immediately tanked my opinions of the men in this book. There wasn’t any cheating, but all of that OW bullshit just felt wrong and gave me some minor ick.
I really considered DNFing the book but I’ve been doing that so much lately that I figured I’d just stick it through, and thankfully the second half of the book was 100 times better. Still not great though. None of that shit that happened in the first half was talked about. We don’t know if it stopped happening in the couple weeks between then and the present. The plot was fine, and all. It had its interesting moments, but it was super quick to fix and all the consequences seemed totally bogus since none of them stuck. The sex was ok but also really brief and unimaginative. I was just disappointed all around by this book. I’m almost sad I finished it. I would’ve been better off leaving after all the shit, then sitting through their lame HEA and getting proven right.
I'd like to start this review by saying that if I wasn't a long time reader of Debbie, and if I hadn't been given an ARC, I probably would have picked this up. This is because I don't like MC books (I can't handle the inherent misogyny) and I typically don't read stand alone RH (as in one book you can't develop multiple relationships in a satisfactory way). So people who like MC, or who have no issue with stand alone RH are not going to have my issues. These are a preference thing, as opposed to a commentary on Debbie.
Adi was a Greta heroine, as is typical of Debbie. She was pretty snarky and tough at the start, and it took me a while to warm to her, but she had all the right qualities. Logan, Spectre and Curos were well realised, as much as there was page time to do so, at least. The relationships were rushed, and they didn't have much time to get to know each other, but that's stand alone RH's for you and Debbie did a good job with developing the relationship, but the characters recognising that the relationships will grow over time.
The over arching plot worked alongside the relationship development and the ending was a good one.
If you enjoy MC books and RH, then I definitely recommend this book.
I think if you have read some of my reviews of Debbie's you know that I am a huge fan! This author has it all. She can make you just fall into the characters and storyline and not want to leave. She has such a way with words, she is definitely one of my top all time authors.
Having said that check out this read. If you like your stories paranormal, with shifters and a touch of magic, read this!! Lets not forget the plot, a tiny dash of some steam and lots of action. Sold yet? Trust me, you don't want to miss this.
The story was so easy to get lost in. I loved the plot and the way the mc life and her life came together. I love the mystery and watching everything unfold. I absolutely loved how the mc members souls inhabited the bikes so they could stay with their brothers.
The fated mates in this story was great! 3 broken brothers all needed someone special, what better way than for it to be the same person.
I didn’t hate this, but I definitely didn’t love it either.
The start was very rocky, with a number of plot issues that didn’t make sense, though at least a couple were explained at the end. But why the hell didn’t the FMC question any of them?
There was so much dumped on her, seemingly randomly, and she just went with it??
Plus, why didn’t her mum try to create a group family?
I seriously didn’t like that MMC1 had sex with a random right after meeting her, or that she saw him again immediately after. Him standing there naked, probably smelling of sex… icky. It’s not cheating, and yet…
I could forgive MMC2 having sex [ironically with the same random], as she was off having sex with MMC1. Jealousy issues early on.
The mystery only took precedence at the very beginning and end. Lots of filler used to create the romance in the middle. Though in truth, that’s how it felt. No real steam, strong emotions, or attention to detail that makes the reader get caught up.
This was such an awesome story idea, with great characters, and some fun dialogue. But it was just crammed into too small a book. It needed so much more to succeed.
Also, a large number of typos and grammatical errors you needed to read around.
I would love to see what this author could do if given the space and insistence to fill in all the missing parts, as that is what’s truly wrong here.
Okay, this book is like other DC books in that it is an amazing read - but it also is SO much MORE! It's the merger of gritty MC and fantastical fantasy/paranormalish which was pulled off so well by the author, I think I have a new favorite book type! We get a little more darkness in this one, which I totally love! And the way she laid out all of the puzzle pieces the way I love about her multi-book series and then tied all the threads to give us closer? Magnificient! It's like getting a multi-book series within a one-book read and is so satisfying, especially with that ending! The feels!! The FMC is a kick-butt powerhouse from page 1 and I love that. I love her loyalty and kindness. Usually I have a hunch about where a story is going, because we've read it all right? WRONG! It was such a thrill when every suspicion I had was proved wrong and the puzzle was completed - huge light bulb moment, and I love how the author accomplishes that! A definite must read, especially for MC fans.
OMG this was incredible! A standalone reverse harem set in a shared universe with some other incredible authors. This is an exciting read with a kick ass heroine Adi and her hot and sexy men and familiar! The world building is amazing and draws you in, the storyline, it’s action packed, full of adventure, tension and steam!! Adi totally kicks butt, she’s strong, snarky and complex and such a great character you can’t help but love her. It’s an amazing read, gritty and a little dark with an exciting and enthralling storyline to keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat and I absolutely loved it.
I have been a long-time fan of this author, and I admit to some trepidation to reading this genre. I’m not a huge of MC but I thought why not. This was actually pretty darn good. I’m not used to standalones, but I think the author did a great job of getting us acquainted with the characters and the world. Her writing is superb in this, and I felt like I was there. For this not being a favorite genre of mine, I enjoyed this far more than I thought. If you like the MC genre, then you’ll definitely love this one. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Debbie Cassidy is one of the few authors I one-click every time she publishes a new book even without knowing the plot.
Dia is a necromancer; she helps ghost go toward the light until one day she finds out that she needs to find her mate to keep her power and her life of she doesn't want to succumb to an entity's revenge. She also finds out that she has a father she never knew existed, and she needs his help of she wants to survive while she waits for her mate. He just happens to be a MC president, and now Dia needs to deal with the whole chapter. She gets on pretty well, but she starts to butt heads with 3 of the men. I wonder what will happen 😏.
I liked the story but I didn't love it. I felt like the end was rushed and the relationship with her mates wasn't fully developed yet before they said the famous 3 words. However, I still thought it a great read, and I love how strong Dia is.
What a great little story. I’m really looking forward to the next book in this interesting world.
FYI I didn’t read this series in order & each book is a stand alone so it’s not necessary. I read this book (2) prior to book 1 & am thankful to have done so. Will cherry pick going forward.
Such a great book! I love MC books and RH is my favorite so the combination of the two is just fantastic!! Greta is hard hearted bad ass b but she has her reasons. Logan, Spectre and Curo eventually get through her defenses and worm their way into her heart. After reading so many unfinished series it’s nice to have a standalone with no cliffhanger!
Death Warden is a stand alone story set in a separate world with other amazing authors. Adi is just living her life, you know writing best selling books under a pen name and sending souls on to the afterlife.....normal things Then she finds out that not everything is as it seems and her world is going to change even more. I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read
Ok so we're introduced to this really cool character Adi that takes jobs as a necromancer. This is never really developed though and is basically forgotten after the first 10% of the book. The rest of the book proceeds in a similar fashion. Adi meets Specter and it's stated they have a mate bond, but then that's left in the dust as well until the very end. The whole book was like this 🤣. Dax is introduced as her long lost father, but then they basically have no interactions for the rest of the book. It was bizarre.
- No MM - Multiple POV’s - FMC is a necromancer - Harem: 3 guys, 2 of them are hellhounds..the third is a lich - No bullying, no enemies to lovers. Harem treats FMC awesome - FMC has a cat-sith sidekick - 3/5 steam level - No betrayals - OW drama (one of the guys is engaged, the other two guys have sex with club girls before they bond to the FMC) - No cheating - No triggers - Fated mates and fated conduits
An enjoyable read on the surface level but it falls apart if you actually think about it.
It's never really explained why the necromancer can't live with the conduit and a lover. Like, it's seen as this big thing that stands between her and the boys but hellhounds can be poly so why can't they just try to persuade the potential conduit to live with them? The angst that went on just felt so pointless to me.
I was really disappointed by how little we saw of Dax, we get zero bonding time between him and Adi. He's supposed to be excited to learn he has a kid but doesn't spend time with her? He's supposed to be a great dad to Spectre and we never see that. His death was nothing to blink at because we have no real reason to care for this guy.
Fin's whole ordeal also annoyed the hell out of me. We get so much time spent on how Adi is worried about him while he's knocked out and yet the conversation on what happened and why he can suddenly turn into a human is done OFF PAGE? Are you fucking kidding me?
Adi is supposed to be a big horror fan, is a prolific author. Well that part of her personality basically ceases to exist for most of the book. Too busy thinking about dick I guess? It would have been great to have had her interpreting events as a horror fan or more time spent on her working on her novel. Hell, the epilogue has NOTHING on her novel and whether or not she finished it in time.
The big bad's motives were also rather pointless. Why did we need to know he'd been tricked/deceived if it was never going to be addressed/resolved? It would have been interesting if Adi had pulled her ancestor from the Light and made her go through the red door with the big bad.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Death Warden is Book 2 in a larger, shared universe, but it can be read alone. The lushness of this MC-inspired world will shine a bit brighter if you read them in order, yet you are missing nothing if you indulge in only one, two, or a few.
Debbie Cassidy is a Queen of magic touched Reverse Harems, and Death Warden is no different. Instead of a lush series to sink into, she offers us a stand-alone that somehow still encompasses all the detail and emotion we've come to expect from her writings.
Our FMC, Adi, harbors a collection of talents and skills that serve her well when she arrives at Frostgate, a warded city that functions as the stronghold of the Grave Spirits, an MC gang that acts more like a police force than a motorcycle club. The reasons she lands at Frostgate seem simple at the outset, but soon become more complicated and diverse as the members of Grave Spirits take her in, teach her and help her at her gargantuan task.
Like all of Cassidy's works, there are numerous threads to follow and a thick plot that delves deeply in multiple directions, despite being a standalone - one she deftly ties up when all is said and done. Overall, this is well done and highly entertaining, though I would have liked a bit more 'on the page' time between certain interests.
Best parts? Talking cat, talking Bikes (yes, seriously...), and the feel-good gush of a lovely romance. Questionable parts? A bit rushed at times (understandable), and the revelation... wasn't. There is no surprise there, thankfully, but it would have served as a decent wedge for a plot twist - but that would have required a longer series. Hopefully, that's not too spoliery.
I always have mixed feelings about standalones. They're great because you know it will be a complete story, no cliffhanger ending, no waiting for further installments. But I frequently feel that they just wrap up too quickly!
I would have loved just a bit longer of an ending on this book, a bit more explanation of what happened now that a certain soul is back, and a bit more time with the third love interest, Logan. Interestingly, I think Curo was who we really got to know the best. Which I'm certainly not complaining about- freaking LOVE Curo- but I have a huge soft spot for Logan and feel like we didn't get to know much about Spectre beyond his crazy powerful pull to secure a mate bond with our main character Adi.
Anyway, obviously nothing fell short enough to drop a star from the rating, this was still SUCH a good book, with such good characters, tension, steam, and plot. Adi is such a fun main character. Love a snarky, badass heroine!
We also got to enjoy lots of different magical creatures- ghosts, vampires, hellhound shifters, necromancers, mages, a talking cat, psychics, and more.
I struggled to put this one down- something I'm finding is impossible to avoid with Debbie Cassidy! She gives me quite the book hangovers. Time to dive into another one of her books to cure it! :)
My experience with Debbie Cassidy has been involved, well thought out, epic series. The idea of a standalone...well, I didn't need to be as worried as I was. The plot is shorter, some of the romance moved along quicker than normal, but still full of all the elements that I love in her books. Her ability to pair action scenes I can imagine like a movie, and steamy relationships that are believable, is unparalleled. Death Warden's Adi was the strong and interesting female I've come to love, and she matched with a harem of MC guys who kept her on her toes. The push-pull mate bond between Adi and Spectre reminded me of the tension filled "The Thirteenth Sign" series with Cora and her Direwolves. It left me aching for Adi, and desperate for any semblance of acceptance of the bond.
The brilliance of these interconnected standalone series is that you have so much variety and an explosion of new ideas from each author. The series never gets old. The downfall, is that I wish there were another 2 or 3 books, I'm not ready to leave the Grave Spirits MC.
Grave Spirits MC Death Warden I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Not my usual genre, but absolutely loved this book, it has changed my opinion completely ... well done Debbie Cassidy!
The female lead is Adienne (Adi) and she is one hell of a kick-*ss character. She is an author and a necromancer on the side. She has everything a heroine needs to be ... strong, loyal, sarcastic and does the right thing. Finley (Fin) is her talking cat-sith that has been bound to her family for many generations. She has no family, except for two vampire godparents.
Her world is shattered and she has to go to a new place where she meets someone significant! Adi also ends up in a relation with 3 men, who are all important to her.
This book is so well put together it's astounding. Everything slots into its place perfectly. You never know which way this book is going to go ... plenty of plot twists and red herrings to deter you from the amazing ending!
This book is a must read for everyone and most definitely for fans of MC, Debbie Cassidy has once again surpassed herself.
This book was definitely adventures as it has all the elements needed to draw you into the story, hold you with a tide grip through all the struggles and revelations that the main characters go through and then reward you with a pleasant ending.
I love hellhounds, there is something mysterious, dark and exceptionally tempting about them. The male heroes in the story were portrayed in detail and as the book progressed, one could easily tap into their personal backgrounds and actually see that each one of them has had some hardships in their life.
The FMC is most certainly a feisty one and although she has lost so much in her life she was open to what the future may hold for her.
This is actually the first book that I have read by Debbie Cassidy and what impressed me the most was the jam-packed with action plot, the lovely combination of reapers and hellhounds, the MC vibe with bikes that are reincarnated versions of an actual hellhound and of course the connection that the main heroes developed with each other.
Adi wasn't your usual girly doll even before her life changed upside down. As a necromancer, her job means talking to ghosts, guiding them into the light, and generally getting rid of them where they are unwanted. Now, however, she has to figure out what to do with her life, as destiny leads her to Frostgate, the area held by Grave Spirits MC - and her real father. Not only that, but her legacy, her mate, and her purpose in keeping an evil entity at bay are at stake too. How can she find a way in such a mess? I absolutely loved the book. Adienne is a kickass woman who has a clear view what she wants in her life, until she crosses paths with Spectre and the others; then she has to reconsider. Finley is also a great addition to the cast, one surrounded by mystery. The combination of magic, shifters, and MC environment is a potent one when written right, and this one was definitely written well.

I’ve read and enjoyed some of Debbie Cassidy’s other books, but the quality content I’ve come to associate with her as an author was MIA this time around. This story just flopped—the plot, the characters and the romance…they all lacked depth and a good foundation. I started to skim at 65% because it was either that or I was going to DNF (and I’d made it too far to do that).
I’m obviously in the minority, so don’t let my experience dissuade you from giving this a try yourself. Just adjust your expectations.
Practical Magic with a light splash of Sons of Anarchy.
Adi is a feisty determined Female Main Character. As a standalone novel the story was a bit rushed but since my eyes couldn’t read the words fast enough, I didn’t mind at all. Adi is a necromancer who has an impossible task fall into her lap. She doesn’t have enough power to keep the locked sealed on a mystical prison and needs her mates to help her survive the cost of the magic. I’ve not read a lot of motorcycle club novels and I feel like this was a good story to get my feet wet in the genre. Out of the harem of males, Spectre is my favorite and I found myself rooting for him as the story unraveled. I love the fact that Adi and Spectre tried at first to fight their bond but ultimately realized even though it might hurt in the end they wanted to have each other’s love.
Probbly one of the best stanadlone's i have read for a long time and on parr with my Fav stand alone author. Strong Female MC and 3 diverce Hotties (2 alpha's and a beta)
If you like alot of story and plot with your steam and sizzle then this one is for you! Really well rounded characters, Great World Building and a fast pace storey line with plenty of twists to keep your interest.
Curio is just so sarky but hides a soft centre that even he didnt know existed, Spectre is a typical growly Apha and Logan is our resident geek. However they are all completely different have have their hottness defined in completely different ways which in a stand alone is so hard to achieve - This author has managed it brilliantly.
The storey is based around a MC grouo but isnt heavily MC so give it a go - think of it as a PNR RH with all the bells and whistles in one book.
Great addition to the Grave Spirits MC. Debbie Cassidy is always an entertaining writer and this book is no exception. The relationships between Ari and her guys are surprisingly sweet, mostly because a lot of the language I dislike in MC books (calling women bitches etc) doesn't exist. In this MC the women play an active role and are fully patched members who ride motorbikes as well.
The villain is a bad guy who does heinous things, however be has a surprisingly heartbreaking reason for his actions. Took me off guard that he wasn't just a cardboard cut out bad guy. Let's just say that some of the supposed good guys aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Highly recommend for an entertaining story, can't wait to read more in this world.
Adi is a necromancer that has lost her parents at a young age and finds out that she is responsible for keeping the man responsible for their death locked up. So she is sent to stay with a MC of hellhounds to build her strength
She ends up meeting Dax her real dad, Spectre, Curo and Logan are members that she is drawn to.
She also has her talking cat Fin with her he has been her best friend for years.
Can Fin and the guys help Adi keep the evil locked away or will she loose everything like the rest of her family did.
Debbie did an awesome job with this standalone I could not put it down.
