The One Night

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn comes a romantic comedy novella about the magic and misadventures of a one-night stand.

Recently divorced Cooper Chance knows he’s officially in a rut when his parents take him barhopping in the hope of resuscitating his love life. At first, he’s skeptical. How could a gritty dive bar possibly solve his problems? But then he runs into Nora McHale.

Nora isn’t at the bar looking for love. She’s there to unwind after yet another exhausting day at her bakery. And even if she were hoping to meet someone, it sure wouldn’t be Cooper—her best friend’s ex-husband.

According to the unwritten rules of romance, Cooper and Nora are completely off limits to each other. But after a fun, flirty night at the bar, they can’t ignore the wild attraction between them.

Is this the beginning of something real, or will their passionate night together be their one and only?

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

This novella was drenched in Meghan Quinn's signature hoot-and-a-half humor! I had zero expectations as what to expect with this short tale, and was surprised by the abrupt ending with zero resolution until I saw that this couple's story will be continued in the upcoming release The Reunion. I'm eagerly anticipating more of Coop and Nora, plus his family's antics in February.

This was a cute funny novella! It's not a standalone though, it's more of an intro/backstory to the next book which I didn't realize when I picked it up but I will be reading bc now I am invested.

Cooper is getting over a divorce and his parents decide to be his wingmen for the night and help him get back out there and find a girl. They bump into Nora, who Cooper grew up with and also happens to be Cooper's ex-wife's BFF! But guess what? There is a spark! Hilarity ensues and possible girl code is broken.

This is a nice "listen while I am cooking dinner or out shopping" read funny and a little sexy. 💙💙💙

After reading this prequel, I’m definitely looking forward to reading Meghan’s new release coming out soon, The Reunion. This was good, but ended so abruptly. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Now I've come to realize why I don't like MQ's latest releases that much... I can't stand her heroines anymore. I don't know what it is, but there is always something that rubs me the wrong way.

The One Night by Meghan Quinn is a very quick (about 95 pages) introduction to Cooper and Nora who appear in Meghan’s other novel, The Reunion. While there really wasn’t anything special about this one to me, I do love the way Meghan writes so I’ll go ahead and give this one 4 stars!

Now I need the full story!

Ah. Meghan Quinn. I always smile when I read her.

This sets up for the next book, The Reunion. Cooper has been out of the game for a while now. Ever since he divorced, he hasn’t dated anyone. When his parents decide to be his wing men, he can’t believe his life 😂😂😂. Until he sees Nora again, his ex-wife’s best friend, and they hit off. They’ve been around each other for years, even when they were young, and now sparks are flying.

Although there’s only one spicy scene, it sure was STEAMY 🥵. Cooper might’ve been out of the game for a while, but he sure made up for lost time- over, and over, and over again 🔥😅💦. Until he realizes who he slept with 😬. Cue cliffhanger.

The side characters were hilarious. I can’t wait to read the next one to find out what happens.

The One Night was a great novella and lead up to the novel The Reunion which is releasing next year. This is Cooper and Nora’s beginning of something more. Nora is Cooper’s ex wife’s best friend and has known him for years. This time around they get to know one another on a deeper and intimate level and his parents plays a role in their meeting. The familiarity and connection is there and I feel there was laid a solid foundation for the upcoming book The Reunion.
Cooper’s family is introduced too along with Nora’s and I’m excited to get to know them more.
The One Night doesn’t end with a HEA. I know I’ll get it in The Reunion. This novella was a great starter and I’m excited to get the main course. Overall a good read.

The One Night was a fun, quick read following a man who unexpectedly shares a night with his ex-wife's best friend.

Cooper Chance has avoided dating since his divorce was recently finalized which has his parents concerned he's going to end up alone. In an effort to help Cooper, his parents insist on playing his wingmen and take him to a bar in the hopes he meets someone. Cooper is skeptical of their plan but then they run into Nora McHale. Cooper and Nora immediately hit it off but can there really be a future between them when Nora is best friends with Cooper's ex-wife?

The One Night serves as a prequel to the author's upcoming book, The Reunion. The Reunion will follow all three of the Chance siblings as they come together for their parents' fiftieth wedding anniversary and find love along the way. The One Night sets up the background for Cooper's romance in that book which will be between him and Nora.

The premise of this novella sounded so fun that I immediately wanted to pick it up. I was curious to know how the whole parents as wingmen thing would go and I will say it doesn't disappoint. Cooper and Nora have known each other most of their lives as their families were friends when they were growing up. I liked that they had that connection beyond Nora just being the best friend of Cooper's ex-wife as that made a potential romance between them make more sense. There's a lot of great banter between the two throughout the night before they make their way back to Nora's apartment. The chemistry between them was fantastic and the steamy scenes were fantastically done. I will say I didn't love the way the story ended as Cooper unnecessarily messed things up and I'm curious how that will be resolved in The Reunion.

Overall The One Night was an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to picking up The Reunion when it releases next year.

What was so adorable about The One Night by Meghan Quinn was how family-oriented it was, and the parents of each main character are pushing them to date someone for them to be happy. Cooper Chance and Nora McHale are already content being single. For them, they don't need another person to justify their happiness. But Cooper's parents think otherwise, so they decided to act as his wingmen and find a chick in the city for him. When they went to a bar, what are the chances that Nora was there at the same time? Nora, who was Cooper's ex-wife's best friend and who's also a family friend. Cooper's parents soon decided to root for them together.

I can't help but laugh at some of the scenes here. It was such a fun and light read. I also find Meghan Quinn's writing engaging. She has a way with words! The only thing I didn't like here was the ending. I was questioning one of the character's stupid decisions and how it ended up that way. For me, it was a bit immature. Otherwise, I look forward to reading the continuation of this through The Reunion.

So cute and truly had so much potential. If it wasn’t for the ending this could have easily been close to a five star read. I loved the MMC til those last few moments. The last line showed redemption but, still… 3.5-4 ✨

WHAT? A Cliffhanger!! 😫
This is a prequel novella to the full-length book, “The Reunion” coming out February 22, 2022.

Cooper is single after a divorce and his parents decide to take him out to find a new girl to get into cohorts with. Isn't that just fun having your parents be your wingman and try to set you up with a date out on the town? HAHA

Nora is a bakery shop owner—she took the shop over from her parents who were able to keep the business afloat with their companionship, and they believe it is time she found a companion for herself (to only help the business of course *wink wink*).

GUESS WHAT?! Both Nora and Cooper end up going to the same bar. Nora to simply get some alone time to decompress from bridezillas at her bakery shop and Cooper sadly tagging along with his parents on their efforts of embarrassment—eh hem, I mean efforts to be matchmakers. Well, they truly are because they go right up to Nora, which OH! How surprising, they know Nora as she is a longtime family friend but also the best friend to Cooper's ex-wife! How do you think this will go?

This was incredibly cute and funny. I myself kept getting secondhand embarrassment and annoyance over the parents of both parties because well, they reminded me of my own in a way. The attraction between Cooper and Nora was impeccable and I couldn't help but root for them. And based on its ending, I'm soooo eager to see how their story will unfold in the next book.

A prequel that introduces Cooper Chance, recently divorced and down-in-the-dumps, find himself out on the town with his mom and dad! So, how does he end up later that night in bed with his ex-wife's best friend? BANG -- cliffhanger ahead.

This prequel will certainly pique your interest and need for the answers. The full novel The Reunion, released in February, 2022 will give you all the answers plus a whole lot more. Cooper has an older brother and a younger sister who have their own interesting and entertaining love stories, too.

Both books are available on Kindle Unlimited.

Let me preface this review by saying I had no idea this was a "prequel" of sorts to Meghan's book The Reunion. While I wish I would have known, my review is based solely on my appreciation of The One Night. However, I will be reading The Reunion now so just heads up readers this ends a bit cliffy...

Welp... This book did not go at all like I was expecting it to, and I am not mad about it. Don't get me wrong, I wanted so much more but now that I know we will get more even in another book I can't be mad. I love Meghan's books, and this was a fun little almost holiday type story about two people who have known each other for ages but are just now seeing each other.

I did listen to this little gem, and I was mostly happy with it. For some reason I felt like the female narrator was just reading from a page. She didn't seem to be enthralled or interested in the story but Teddy Hamilton, however, was delightful to my earholes.

For some, this type of story might be uncomfortable because of exactly how Cooper and Nora know one another but for me it wasn't. I kind of adored it. Low on steam but tons of getting to know you moments The One Night proved to be the breath of fresh air I didn't know I needed.

I don't usually read novella's, but I needed to read a book with at least 150 pages for this Goodreads challenge I'm in. This story was decent for being so short. The problem I have is that just when ur settling into the story, it's over. I know this is just a prequel to another book, so it was ok, and good enough that I might look for the next book. I liked the setup of the parents being involved in trying to help their kids find love and not be alone. Although it's also rather medley. But i just like how the parents care enough to want to do right by their kids. I do not believe you need to be with someone to have a fulfilled life, but it is nice when love presents itself. This story portrayed a one night stand. I don't know if their relationship continues to grow in the next book or what. But this prequel is one night. I, myself, do not believe in one night stands, but I do know what it's like to connect with someone and be so instantly drawn to them. I really like these two characters together, so I hope their story of being together continues on. This wasn't the best novella I've ever read, but it's also not the worst.

This is the novella that takes place before Quinn’s book The Reunion (which I have not read yet).

Cooper is in his 20’s and already divorced. It’s been a year since his divorce was finalized so his parents decide it’s time for him to get back out there. They team up to be his wingman and take him to a bar. There they run into a family friend, Nora, who also just happens to be Cooper’s ex wife’s best friend.

I liked both of the characters but the parents are really the best couple in this book. 😂 Cooper ends up leaving after a steamy night with Nora without saying goodbye. Like sneaks out while she’s still asleep. I will definitely be reading The Reunion soon!

This was an adorable read! This was a quick and steamy novella that packed a punch for how short it was. It was sprinkled with all the humor that I've come to expect from a Meghan Quinn romance. I recognized the storytelling immediately and fell into the story just as fast. I enjoyed both of the main characters and the main character's parents were absolutely delightful. There was a surprising amount of depth for the short length of the book. I still would have loved more but that's a "me" issue. I am just not overly fond of novellas as a general rule but I could never pass up a story from this author. This ended fairly abruptly so I am really looking forward to reading The Reunion!

Nora isn’t looking for love. And if she was, it surely wouldn’t be with Cooper, her best friend’s ex-husband.
But Cooper, forced into barhopping with his parents, is there. And after a fun, flirty night at the bar, they both know that their attraction might be wild but they still are completely off limits to each other by unwritten rules. But they might enjoy now and beg for forgiveness later…

I’ve heard all the praise on Quinn and I did enjoy her writing style and humor but this book just didn’t give me much and might have been the wrong place to start.

There is a follow-up novel which might help the abrupt ending with zero resolution but being advertised as a Novella rather than a prequel, I did have some expectations.
I’m interested in their story and up for reading more of the author in general but this felt rather pointless.
