The liar the bitch and the warmonger

Rate this book
Charles Wilde a wealthy businessman, whilst lying on his sick bed reflects on his life choices.

His four children, three from his marriage and one from his mistress are circling for any inheritance that may be left to them.

Edward, the eldest son is a hopeless liar who falls into serious debt.

David, the middle child, a hard-hitting, go-getting businessman and father-to-be.

Erica, the only daughter, an arrogant, spoilt, failing businesswoman.

And finally, Charlie, the illegitimate son who has done well for himself owning his own business.

Edward, David, and Erica wanted nothing to do with Charlie after he turned up and introduced himself just after his sixteenth birthday. When their aging father becomes ill, tensions come to the forefront as they all fight for a slice of his money.

An attempt on Charlie’s life asks the question who is responsible? Is it a member of his family or is there an enemy close by?

The Liar, the Bitch and the Warmonger takes you on a twisting mystery tale exploring family dynamics.

It asks the question, when it’s your time to shuffle off this mortal coil, are you better off leaving nothing behind other than enough for your funeral? Or the alternative, enough in your estate that will expose your feuding, conniving, jealous, and ruthless offspring?

A family drama to remember

The title is eye-catching enough to get you to open the book, I didn’t know what to expect but I immediately wanted to know more about the liar, the bitch, and the warmonger whether it was describing one person or 1,000!

We quickly get introduced to our four main characters, the liar, the bitch, the warmonger, and the bastard (he should have been in the title too!). It’s easy to tell which one is which as they live up to their names in the introductory chapters. That build up really pays off when you get to see them interact with one another in further chapters.

As someone who has been dealing with a family will for over four years now, I greatly relate to the plot. The death of a patriarch is bound to shake things up and they never turn out the way you think they will. Leader does a good job exploring that dynamic with his large personalities. Overall it’s a entertaining short read that focuses on family dynamics and some less than reputable characters!

This was such a good read, really drew me in. I loved how the stories of the characters skilfully blended together, and what a bunch of characters they are - I will just say the title is genius!

I don’t want to give anything away but I think you’ll enjoy seeing how the different characters interwoven lives peak in this plot.

Was also a lovely length to read, I spent an evening curled up with this and will be reading more from Morton soon

Read in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down. Talk about dysfunctional families...
Seemingly well-to-do siblings squabble over inheritance and entitlement. Told from each characters perspecive this book delves into the life of the Wilde family, Wilde by name and wild by nature. Death, bad timing, misfortune, and mistrust ensue. And without too many spoilers, wow, what a b1tch!
Another cracker by Leader, and a little dark too.

A nice short read before bed & what a read it turned out to be!

I found this a very well written novella size read, it's delightfully dark, with a dysfunctional range of characters, whose families stories seamlessly meld together.

This is the first book I've read by Morton & it's certainly not going to be my last.

You need to give it a read, as I found the title & the cover totally misleading as to what I thought I was going to read (I went in blind on a recommendation from @nicolaloweauthor)!

While reading this book I familiarized myself with the characters as I followed their journey and my opinion of each one, in this family of dysfunction, altered completely in a scenario of what it seems is not really what it seems. Well done Morton R Leader in tricking me with the many twists and turns that I didn’t see coming! I always say where there’s a will there’s a relative, and this certainly rang true in this entertaining story of devious plots that you mastered so well to keep me guessing. I really enjoyed The Liar, The Bitch and The Warmonger and highly recommend this read.

Fantastic book. I loved this. I couldn't put it down. I was instantly gripped from the first page. Full of intrigue, this story takes you on a journey of jealously, lies, plots and exciting events. I've read all of Morton's books and I think this is my favourite so far. The thing I love about this writer is you never know what to expect, always full of surprises. Fully recommend it. You have to read it!
