Learn the fundamentals of digital writing, building an audience, and scaling yourself online from Ship 30 for 30 Captains Dickie Bush and Nicolas Cole.
An against-the-mainstream opinion of how to get started writing with some valid points. Writing online is very different than writing "analog" and starting a blog isn't the best way to get noticed. It also is a good example of where their thesis might fall short–"Imperfectly Published Is Better Than Perfect But Unpublished." This book is imperfect (numerous typos, orphan lines, awkward phrasing), but it is published. One wonders whether "perfect but published a little later" is a nice balance between those two extremes. A quick and easy read, not life altering, but worth spending some time skimming.
Decent little ebook about writing in the digital age. Definitely has some good tips—such as the importance of writing a lot (that's how you improve!) and sharing your work. But I also can't help but feel that the digital age is making us SO MUCH STUPIDER. People can't concentrate on anything these days... so we're supposed to cater to that in our writing? Frustrating. What about raising the bar so we don't get dumber and dumber. Just saying.
AUTHORS! THIS IS A MUST READ! Sick of being a poor starving artist? Have no idea how to make money as a writer? Want to write powerful punchy texts that hit home? This book is for you! Writing advice that works because you write to market, for a validated niche, using modern digital writing methods. A clean quick and above all most useful read! Highly recommend. A modern day "Elements of Style"!
A quick read and a potential eye opener for most starting off with online writing. As a lead magnet for Ship 30 - it’s an excellent free resource. Only giving a 4 because I feel Nicolas Coles book on digital writing an opus that delves in deeper with more robust examples.
Overall a great, quick read about digital writing. Some laws repeat themselves, though this is probably by design to help reinforce the points they're making. My highlight was the chapter about core narratives, made me think a lot!
This is a very light book. It has a lot of insightful tips and is reliable for writers of all levels. If you want to create more through writing, this book is a wonderful place to start.
This quick-read book (78 pages) contains practical and actionable suggestions for people immersed in or interested in digital writing. Its authors are recognized and proven experts on the subject. Some sections of the book are about writing, and others are about marketing and positioning. It compares how most people consume written content, giving guidelines to be a better writer who exploits the current situation instead of writing more traditionally. In my opinion, comparing and, to a certain extent, minimizing the written work of a writer of the stature of a Nobel Prize in Literature (analog writer) with that of a digital writer does not make sense. It could be the way they explained it that left me baffled. They are different, but sometimes, authors glorify digital writers' work compared to analog ones. However, it is a book that I will read again, and I recommend it. I give it four stars out of five.
A short potent read that covers 100% of the fundamentals of online writing. I remember reading another one of Nicholas Cole's books (The art and business of online writing) before I had my first viral article. And now, having achieved a fair amount of success, I 100% agree with everything Cole says.
