Pedro Almodóvar Caballero is a Spanish film director, screenwriter and producer.

Almodóvar is arguably the most successful and internationally known Spanish filmmaker of his generation. His films, marked by complex narratives, employ the codes of melodrama and use elements of pop culture, popular songs, irreverent humor, strong colors and glossy décor. Desire, passion, family and identity are among Almodóvar’s most prevalent themes. His films enjoy a worldwide following and he has become a major figure on the stage of world cinema.

He founded Spanish film production company El Deseo S.A. with his younger brother Agustín Almodóvar who has produced almost all of Pedro’s films.

I knew I would love this, since it's the script of a movie I'd already seen and loved. But it ended up being so much more. The setting up of the scenes revealed details that have escaped my attention and the director's notes confirmed and unpacked theories about his intentions with the story.

Lloré muchísimo viéndola en el cine, y he vuelto a llorar muchísimo con las últimas páginas del guion. Que Almodóvar escribe a las mujeres como ningún otro hombre podría hacerlo es algo que ya sabía, pero la delicadeza y el respeto con el que habla de la memoria colectiva en esta película es algo que nunca voy a poder agradecerle lo suficiente.

Ay, ¡qué película! Almodóvar fusiona dos tramas, ambos que contiene profundidades emocionales en gracias a la ejecución precisa de su director, uno de la exhumación de las fosas comunes y el otro de una familia ensamblada y complicada. Es refrescante ver una declaración muy política a través del cine de Almodóvar, especialmente cuando tienes en cuenta el hecho que ayer dijo que prefería prestar atención a la comedia en sus pelis. Esta es algo enteramente diferente, por cierto. No obstante, retiene la marca de una peli de Almodóvar con su uso impresionante de colores y tomas vivos.

Cruza los dedos que podría analizarla suficientemente jaja.

i need a screenplay book for all of his films!

    i bought this when i was in buenos aires for a kinda ridiculous price, but i figured i probably wouldn't see it in many physical bookstores in the states, so whatever! it took me a good bit to read it even though i pulled it out consistently. my spanish just isn'tttt that good yet to where i don't need to translate a word or two each page. lovely film, obviously. i rewatched it a few weeks after i finished this and gained a new appreciation for a lot of the subtleties in the dialogue and the sets. penélope cruz should've won the oscar btw.
