Miss Juliana Hathaway had always been aware of her parent’s obsession with wealth. What she didn’t know was that their increasing debt would lead them to trap their own daughter in an unwanted marriage with a dangerous Earl. Unable to face her fate, she escapes in servants' clothing, only to experience an accident that leads to the loss of her memory. Yet, in an unexpected twist of events, a charming Duke saves her and takes a personal interest in her recovery.
As Juliana’s memory slowly returns, her feelings for the kind Duke grow and her fulfilling new present resists her hollow and dreadful past.
Nash Stratford, the Duke of Kensington is shocked to come across an injured woman on the side of the road. Against his prejudiced sister’s objections, he feels inexplicably drawn to the dashing woman and hires her as his servant in an attempt to help her unmask her identity. However, as he realises Juliana’s higher social status, his vow to help her remember collides with his wish to never let her go…
If only Nash's daring affection could make Juliana stay and never walk out of his life…
As Juliana and Nash’s tender emotions for each other grow, time will start counting down to her recovery and the end of their dreamy match. Lost between right and wrong, love and duty, they are both trying to face their internal battles. Yet, when Juliana’s past appears at their doorstep in the face of her evil husband-to-be, it will feel like the inevitable end of everything. Will Nash and Juliana take the reins of their lives, or will their enchanting love end up buried under the ashes of a grim reality?
"A Lady's Tender Remembrance" is a historical romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Well... It's not the worst I've read, but the writing level lacks some maturity (I mean in general, not in regard to sexual content.) Sentence structure is a bit childish. In short: heroine runs away from an unwanted arranged marriage, hits her head, loses her memory, and is rescued by the hero. She works as a servant in his house, and they fall in love. Former suitor abducts her, her memory returns, and hero rescues her. HEA etc. The amount of passion is very tame. They don't even kiss. Expect the standard misuse of titles (unmarried sister of duke should be Lady Eleanore not Lady Stratford, etc.) Please note: they're wedding banns, not banners! After the heroine loses her memory - including knowing her own name - the scenes are written from her POV, but she is identified by her real name in the narrative. I'm not sure what the proper convention is for this situation.
Miss Juliana Hathaway is the only child of a pair of spendthrifts who are very materialistic. When Juliana helps a drowning dog, she is rewarded by the dog's wealthy owner with dinner and a gift. When she meets their family, she is introduced to the woman's son, who is immediately taken with Juliana. However, before the end of the dinner, Juliana sees the true spirit of Ralph, and she swears that she never wants to see him again.
Unfortunately, Ralph convinces Juliana's parents to let him marry their daughter. When she finds out, she runs away. Juliana has a terrible head injury that makes her unable to remember her past. Nash Stratford, the Duke of Kensington, finds her body on the side of the road, and he takes her home and calls the doctor.
Although she recovers, Juliana still has no idea who she is or where she should be. The duke hires her as a maid, but soon finds that she can read and speak English and French. Thus, he changes her job and keeps a close watch on her. All is not great in the manor because Nash's sister is horrified to have a mere servant girl attracting her brother.
There are some things that I didn't like about this story, and the first is the amnesia. I thought writers had given up on this old trope. However, I have to admit that this author handled it well. The injuries were significant enough to believe such a thing could happen. Ultimately, everyone loved everyone else. This seemed ludicrous because of the way Nash's sister (Ellie) had treated Juliana throughout the story. I didn't buy it. However, Juliana was a different person and accepted her apology.
Would I read another by this author? Yes, she writes good dialogue and creates interesting situations. Overall score = G+.
This is a clean-lit romance and, typically not my cup of tea. That being said, I read it in less than a day - it's that good :)
The story has twists & turns - Juliana is a popular viscount's daughter who is forced to marry the son of the woman whose dog she saves in a pond. The son seems like a catch on the surface, until Juliana finds him in a violent situation with a maid. Not passing the vibe check, she works with her maid to run away before the wedding, is knocked unconscious by a tree branch and picked up by the Duke of Kensington.
The duke is a TOTAL golden retriever: He is sweet, caring, kind, lovable and he falls for Juliana / Isabella like a ton of bricks. Craziness does ensue and love finds a way.
There are some religious undertones in this book as well as keeping it squeaky-clean and normally, the sanctimoniousness of those things is a total turn-off but the plot and characters kept me coming back for more (I even read the extended epilogue).
All's well when it ends well!! It wasn'the the first Abigail Agar's book to read and it won't be the last. The plot might not be so complex but it's such an enjoyable reading experience. There is the gentle worm-hearted Lady to be in great distress after loosing her memory while escaping an unwanted marriage. There is the white-shinning-armored knight to rescue her, though he proves to be a mere human when keeping the object of his desire in servitude though well he knows her to be a highborn lady. And, finally there are the villains, the irrationally overprotective knight's sister who takes an instant dislike of our heroine and the possessive would-be fiance who's willing to do everything in his power to get married to his promised. Such ingredients are certain to ensure a winning receipe when combined with Abgail's insightful writing. I look forward to read some other Abigail's books.
For anyone interested in romance without any of the serious intimacies like kissing, this is the book for you. It was interesting to learn more about a servant's life and how it compared to their masters. The memory loss and recovery was also intriguing. I was especially glad to see that it ended well. However, in the extended epilogue, I wondered what happened to her lady's maid. It's as if the heroine dropped her in favour of the new maid, Kitty for unknown reasons.I It's a slow burn without the steam but a good story.
I loved this story. I could hardly put it down. Juliana was being forced to marry a mean man. She chose to run away instead. She lost her memory, became a servant, and fell in love. What I didn't like was how mean Nash's sister was to Juliana. I was scared for Juliana that Ralph would cause her a lot of pain. I loved the ending, the prayer from a woman on the road, Juliana thinking there must be something to that, and Juliana making the decision to pray for her husband and their long-awaited match.
Nash and Juliana What is a lady to do when those who should love her and want her happy instead uses her to increase their wealth why she runs as fast as she can. The only problem that brings with it some unexpected events how she and the other characters deal with it all is what this lovely book is all about. I love how the story is written and the characters were a delight. This is really an excellent book I am so glad I got the chance to read it.
Enjoyed this book very much. I especially liked the sincere and relatable emotions portrayed by Juliana, the main female character. The storyline, although not an original one, was filled with interesting and endearing characters which greatly enhanced the story. There was action, intrigue and suspense. The ending with Juliana’s parents was perhaps a bit too flippant, nevertheless, a wonderfully entertaining read.
This is a delightfully engaging story that has been brilliantly crafted. This clean plot has the main characters having to deal with memory loss and a scheming sister, who eventually sees the error of her ways. The extended epilogue provides you with an insight into their future lives. I read an ARC copy.
I really enjoyed Juliana's character. My only complaint with this book was no kissing at all, with the exception of a kiss on the brow in the extended epilogue, which only let know how many children the couple had. Although it was a good story line there was very little in the way of what I consider romance. All and all it was worth reading.
A very good and well written about two people that are drawn to each other She loses her memory and works as a maid and he is a duke in love with his maid The characters determined and sweet The extended epilogue completes the story Enjoyable story
This storyline is of a young lady while escaping her home to avoid an unwanted wedding to a cruel Earl ends up finding love after all obstacles and misunderstandings are overcome
Realistically possible. I don't think Ellies character Is quite right however. And there should have been more distrust between Isabelle and towards ellie. One year and two years Olds i dont believe, speak as clearly. I loved Nash and Isabelle interaction.
This is a wonderful story great characters that will steal your heart . Juliana is the privilege daughter of a Viscount, but her parents greed to sell her off in marriage, causes her to run away But running away and loosing her memory leads to the love of her life. Thank you! ♥️
