I want to start this off by saying that Shattered Remnants is book two in the Shattered World series, so if you haven’t read book one—please do that! And just like the first, it’s packed full of angst, drama, and action.
One of my absolute favorite things about Shattered Remnants was getting to see the growth in mindset that Ava had. She really came into her own and fully grasped the title of Queen to reflect who she is as a person. There’s nothing I love more than a strong FMC, and Ava fits the description perfectly. She’s been chained, abused, and nearly unalived—among other things. But she doesn’t let anything stop her, nor does she wait for her knight in devilish armor to save her. Ava saves herself, in a way.
Matthias. I love the man, but he infuriated me the entire book. He feels betrayed, and I fully understand why. But his reluctance to accept her side of the story—even though he’s the one that asked to hear it—made me want to punch him in the face. I felt that we didn’t get enough of them because he spent too much of the book either trying to avoid her or hate-“loving” her.
Then Queen @authorjomccall went and ended on that freaking CLIFFHANGER. Girl! How do I even handle myself right now? I hate him, then I love him, then I hate him, and then you go and pull that stunt at the end right when I start to love him again.
And that shocking twist at the end? I had a feeling—even though I didn’t want it to be true—but still gasped when it was revealed.
I devoured this book in one sitting. We get answers that developed in book 1, then we have new questions that develop in this book. I do think that this book was more plot driven and focused more on the informational aspect rather than the characters, but there’s still plenty of smut, steam, and badassery. Overall, I absolutely loved the book, and I’ll be biting my nails waiting on book 3.
Thank you to Jo for the ARC <3
