Jazzi, Ansel, and Jerod are helping a friend convert a barn into a house when Jerod's dad asks Jazzi to help find who murdered one of the mechanics who worked at his car repair shop. Vince was one of the first mechanics he'd hired, and Eli's shocked when he finds that recently, Vince was caught cheating clients into repairs they didn't need. It's out of character, but soon, they discover Vince was frantically trying to cover a gambling debt of his brother's. He was so desperate, he even sold the motorcycle that he'd worked on and loved for years without telling his wife. Between searching for answers and converting the barn, Jazzi's good news still doesn't go unnoticed. She and Ansel are going to have their first baby, and her husband and cousin are determined she won't do anything unsafe on the job. They'd wrap her in bubble wrap if they could, but she won't have any of it. She has to work just as hard to make them quit pestering her as she does to help Gaff solve the case. Leggi meno
Judi Lynn received a Master’s Degree from Indiana University as an elementary school teacher after attending the IPFW campus. She taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades for six years before having her two daughters. She loves gardening, cooking and trying new recipes.
This is another great entry into an entertaining series. All the main characters are back, including the growing and extended roster of secondary characters and friends. Jazzi and Ansel are expecting a baby and Ansel moves into father-to-be protective mode when it comes to Jazzi. That doesn’t stop her from becoming involved in investigating another murder when the body of mechanic turns up in a Buick. At the same time, she and Ansel, along with their house-flipping partner, Jerod, are working on converting a barn to a residential property. And, of course, there are the usual big family dinners each Sunday, complete with a cast of characters I have grown to love.
I was surprised that one murder eventually led to three which broadened the list of suspects. The reason and motive were also a surprise. As always, the writing is breezy, and Jazzi and Ansel are a fun pair. I always enjoy their interactions and the relationship they have. It was fun seeing Ansel trying to come up with the perfect baby name. I’ve spent so much time with these characters over eight books, I feel like they are family. Judi Lynn really has something special going with this series and I highly recommend it to fans of cozies.
Jazzi, Ansel, Jerod and Gaff are back flipping houses and solving murders. This one moved a bit slower and Jazzi did more interviewing than investigating due to her pregnancy. Investigating the death of a mechanic in her uncle’s shop means everyone there is a suspect, but it’s the holiday season so the mystery needs to be solved
I’m sorry to say that I just didn’t love this book as much as some of the previous ones. Jazzi, Ansel and Jerrod are all still wonderful. Their connection to each other is fun to read and I like that there is no backstabbing in the group. However, this murder mystery just didn’t do anything for me. I honestly can’t suspend my disbelief any longer at how integral Jazzi is in Graf’s investigations, so much so that she seems to be his first, and frequent, port of call to interview each and every suspect. It was fun in the first book, but has gotten more on the nose as the series progresses. Still, I will most likely be picking up book 9 just to see what pregnancy is doing to Jazzi and her family.
A family friend is found dead in his Buick, so of course Jazzi gets involved in the investigation.
What I enjoyed: * It is great seeing the ever-growing gang * Grandma is always fun with her visions *
What could have been better: * Gaff, a police officer, told a suspect about an undercover sting that wasn't complete yet and involved said suspect's work. What police officer does that???? * These books are spending too much time on food prep
These are enjoyable, and although the mysteries certainly vary in each book, the ability of Jazzie and her merry band of house flippers that always seem to finish every project in record time, is a bit hard to swallow. If only it were like that in the real world….guess that’s why they call it fiction!
I loved this series! Murders, house flipping and cooking for a houseful of people. Jazzi, Ansel, and Jerod sure have their hands full in this little town in Indiana. I do hope Judi Lynn writes more of these books.
Loved the book. Judi Lynn has once again has created a novel that keeps you guessing who dunnit. Lots of intriguing characters. I sincerely hope the series continues.
Wonderful characters in a small town. Jazzy help her detective friend puzzle out the death of a friend. Vince was only the first as they investigated who and why. I love this fun series
Sometimes when an author gets further into a series the repetition gets a little too much. I still like the characters, the setting, the house renos and the mysteries, but I didn't need to hear about how the dog gets a bone and the cats play in the paper bags 4 times in approximately 200 pages.
As usual, a thoroughly enjoyable read. Jazzi and Gaff make an incredible sleuthing pair. Look forward to more books about these two, and Ansel and the baby to be, of course.
