Alpha: The Ian Ridgefield Story

Rate this book
Ian Ridgefield thought he was done with the military. He had completed more than he ever expected and did it at a level few will ever reach. Back home and taking care of his mother, even if she didn't ask for it, while quickly moving up the corporate ladder, his days of being a door kicker and dealing with sand rubbing his skin raw were further and further away.

When Washington D.C. turns into a proverbial hellhole, the Pentagon razed to the ground, within a matter of seconds, he is presented with a request that he isn't sure he wants to accept. This decision is even more difficult to make when a woman he hadn't thought about for more than a decade has entered his life and keeping it more than a little interesting.

Ian's code of moral justice may land him into legal trouble and the stand he makes to save the life of one while taking others, is difficult to offset for the community he lives in but can they agree to overlook it? When two people with more money and legal power than any duo in the country are willing to help ensure he stays on the outside of the Tombs in New York City it is a reality he has a difficult time accepting.

Will Ian, finally, find peace in life and chemistry with the woman of his dreams, or will the skeletons come crashing out of his closet and destroy the foundation he has worked so hard to create? Travel through the journey of treacherous deceit, ecstatic highs, military men standing up to corrupt governments, and men being an impenetrable wall between pure evil and the women they have sworn to protect.

The first book in a wonderful series highlighting the men and women who have, or do, serve in the military. This is not a stand-alone book.

An avid reader and lifelong learner, I was intrigued when offered the opportunity to co-author books with award-winning and New York Times best-selling author Melody Anne (www.melodyanne.com). After she heard my numerous book ideas and own storytelling, she knew I was well on my way to becoming a highly acclaimed author.

In the fall of 2020, my first co-authored release, Shadows, hit the world, and the reaction to it not only surpassed my hopes, it took off and hasn't slowed down. Within the next six months, four more books were published, and the reviews prove that readers love each and every story I've helped bring to them.

I appreciate the perspective of most on this earth. We all have our joys and sorrows, our highs and lows and triumphs and struggles. The stories we have are so unique and so similar we should be glad to share them with each other and find how much we have in common.

If you would like to share those stories, to hear the stories of others, to receive updates on what I'm working on, or books I'm involved with, please sign up with an active email address on my website and we will share this journey of life together.

You never know - we may end up writing books together. Don't think it's possible? I said the same thing. So did Author Roger L. Osborne when he asked me to help him create his story, yet we just finished our first book, together, August 2021. Where life leads us is unknown, so let's all take some of those steps together.

Ian is a hero looking out for others

I enjoyed the story. There are so!e really good laughs but there is also some real life thrown in the mix. It was a roller coaster for me lots of highs and lows. I could really feel for the characters and what they went through. John doesn't take you through everything that Ian goes through but you really get a sense of what he is experiencing. I really enjoyed the sense of humor that Ian has with his friends and his mother. His mother is a strong woman who loves her son and is so proud of him. Being there for her as she suffered from MS was just the best ending he could give the woman who raised him. John I truly didn't know what to expect when I started the book, you took me on an adventure and honestly I totally enjoyed the time I had. The funeral for the honored seal was one of the most touching parts of the book. I agree with Steph that I was glad he invited me to share that with him. I love the Williams family and respect how they treated Ian's mom when she worked for them. They didn't treat her like she was beneath her but like she was a woman doing the best for her son. Much respect for treating everyone with dignity. Thanks John I look forward to Bravo because I need to know who the idiot is behind the explosions rocking America!

I loved this first book by John Henley! Great job!

Ian Ridgefield was a warrior who left the service of his country after many years of service. He went back to New York to be close to his mom since she has M S. One night, he came upon two men attacking a woman that would not. Ian stepped in, stopped the men, and handed the woman's off to the paramedics. When he heard her giving her name and date of birth, he was shocked, wondering I this was his best friend from high school? It turned out to be the Stephanie Williams that he was such good friends with and had lost touch. So after the attack, they reconnected. They were always laughing and cutting up, and they picked right back there. You can see the chemistry between Ian and Stephanie, but Stephanie keeps pulling back. Ian works for SOS, a security company that secures high profile people. When things start happening at military assets across the US, Ian is drawn in to trying to figure out what is happening. Come along for the ride to see how Ian and Stephanie get together, and the pulse pounding scenes at other times. You certainly won't be bored!

Alpha has all the elements of a good military/romance. There is a wonderful hero who is loyal to his country, his mom and friends. He saves the girl from a brutal attack, and realizes he may know her from childhood. When they are brought together after the attack they start a relationship. This story also has some very evil people who will stop at nothing to get what they want and of course our hero wants to find out who the bad guys are.

This story has a great plot that is very well written with characters the reader connect with right away, this book is easy to read, has nail-biting moments and a hero that is swoon worthy. There are secondary characters that add humor and strength to the story as well. I liked Stephanie as she was a good fit for Ian and a very strong character. Although there is a HEA at the end of the book, it is a cliffhanger and is book 1 in this series. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to Bravo, book 2. I highly recommend Alpha!

This story is filled with political intrigue, suspense, romance, death, and relationships. Little does Ian know that when he stops an assault from happening one night, he will be reconnected with someone from his childhood and how much that will impact his future - both personally and professionally. Plus, there's the mystery of who is behind some explosions that have happened. I'm looking forward to the next book to see what happens next.

keeps you reading

Must say this is different from what I normally read. I'm always up for something new. Details of the storyline make you think about what will happen. The love of a mother and son bond. A soldier that will risk his life to save others.
A cannot wait to find out what will come next. Well done John you got me hooked.
I think I know who might be behind it, but only time will tell. Must read all, suspense, love, and yes you might cry. Glad I read this one

Great start to a new series. In this first book, we get background on who Ian is and what has led him to where he is now. I enjoyed the way this author has woven real-life facts within the story. There is action, military, and some romance. I've already downloaded the next book to continue Ian on his mission!

One fine read

Once you get past the whole military superhero about to save the world introduction, a well written and fleshed out story ending in a cliffhanger

Five stars are not enough!

Great read, I really liked it. Would liked a normal ending instead of a option to grab another that might have the ending that I was expecting!

whew…..

I love military movies, so reading the book is no different. It’s full of action and suspense, who in the hell is targeting the US military buildings. Don’t know but Ian is ready to find out. I think him and Stephanie are perfect for each other. Looking forward to what life is like for them in next book.

This first book in the Military Might series introduces us to Ian Ridgefield and Stephanie Williams, along with many other integral characters who will be a part of the series going forward. The storyline will have you experiencing many of the emotions that the characters feel including love, anger and sorrow. I'm looking forward to continuing Ian and Stephanie's story.

Alpha

When Stephanie is attacked, a good Samaritan comes to her rescue. Only later she finds out it is actually Ian who she has known for many years. As Ian and Stephanie's love grows, his mother grows weaker. I normally do not like cliffhanger books but in this series, each book does have enough to complete the plot in the story but also has a continuing perspective. Looking forward to Bravo.

Fantastic book.

Wow, I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in a day. Loved staying on edge. Ian is definitely a hero. Loved how he rescues Stephanie and surprised by how they know each other. I loved his Mom and her family too. Is there a terrorist plot? So much happens and love how Ian is still a hero. Loved that they got a happy ever after, but I did cry hard at the same time. The story lets us know there will be more to come and I can’t wait to read the next book. I highly recommend this book.

Slow

Great storyline but a little on the slow side. I would have loved more action on a faster pace. Fair.
