Wilkes is alone, struggling to survive on the island once known as Great Britain, thirty-six years after the zombie apocalypse devastated the world.
As the young woman makes her way along the ruined landscape, she stumbles across a backpack filled with journals written by a man she will never meet, but who will alter the course of her life nonetheless. Through these yellowed pages,
Wilkes relives the worst that life had to offer at the very end of humanity's reign.
Just when I thought I had said my - sad - final goodbyes to Mike Talbot, B.T., and the whole gang, he has resurrected their story in The Lost Journals. This edition provides information which was never revealed before. New battles against the zombies, finding out more about each other, and some of the horrific humans who set their sights on undermining Mike's knowledge and authority - at every opportunity - as he passionately fought to protect his family and dear friends from harm.
This episode was so much better than I thought possible as I began listening. Mark Tufo hooked me with book #1 and this series is the reason I became such an avid fan of the zombie genre. I am more than thrilled he has found a path for continuing the story of Talbot and the many other amazing characters I have become so invested in over the course of the 17 amazing books in this series.
Looking forward to Altered Destinies (book #18) - scheduled to be released on 08/16/22 (already preordered) - with great anticipation.
Narrator Sean Runnette has been a fan fav. of mine since the very first book, and just so glad he continues to be the solo voice for this much beloved series.
I showed a great amount of restraint by spreading book 17 out over the last five days. when I first started listening to this series, I would listen to a book in a day and a half. I know that I'll be waiting for months for the next book to be released so I wanted to savor every moment. I know that I sound insane, that's okay because I probably am. I definitely know that I'm crazy for Tufo's Zombie Fallout series. They have the perfect amount of humor, action, gross out, camaraderie and character depth to draw you in and keep you wanting to know more. I enjoyed the addition of Wilkes and Mack to the storyline. They add that extra little something to the story. Sean Runnette is Mike Talbot! His narration is absolutely perfect for this series.
I absolutely love every volume of this series! Mark Tufo has made me laugh out loud, cringe, and almost shed a tear yet again. Sean Runnette is an ace narrator so if you get a chance to listen to the audiobooks, do it.
I forgot to write reviews for some, and I will tell you why. You will finish one and buy the next. 5 stars for the whole series. So if you just see five stars from me, you know it is a straight banger and straight bought the next one!
I was so relieved after book 16 that the series was finally over. For quite a few books it was a very different feel from what got me hooked initially. When I heard a book 17 was releasing and that it was Mike's "lost journals" I thought that maybe we would be getting some excerpt from earlier in the story. Instead it was just more of the same military-style missions that don't progress any overarching plot with none of the family and no real Talbot-y "I will save me and mine and you won't stop me" that made the earlier series so enjoyable. Just generally disappointed that the series has continued this long and is now leaving a sour taste in my mouth. My advice is stop after book 8 because it's a really nice story arc that only leaves you with a few hanging questions. Continue through book 12 if want some vampire closure, but other than that I don't understand why the story is still going. There will be an 18 and I am pot committed at this point so I will read it. Hopefully it can break out of this rut and end with a little dignity.

While it appears the main storyline has ended, this one picks.up in England at the start of the apocalypse with Mac, a young boy left with his dead grandma. He survives in Sherwood Forest and forced into indentured servitude with a terrible clan rules by a cruel leader named Macgowan. Mac is hellbent on revenge and ends up on the run. He runs into a young girl named Wilkes who teams up with him to avoid the baddies and beaters (zombies). They stumble across a bag of journals from 36 years prior - written by a Michael Talbot. Wilkes is unable to read so Mac ends up reading them to her and they slowly realize their two worlds of overlap. The zombie are getting grosser and scarier for sure.
I love the connection between the two timelines and bonus Talbot squad stories. Cannot wait for the next one!

Book 17 delivers the action-packed, emotionally charged storytelling that fans have come to expect from Mark Tufo. This entry throws in a massive twist One that’s left me thinking long after I turned the last page. I’m hoping it all makes sense soon, but for now, we’re left with yet another well-placed cliffhanger that keeps us chasing the “white rabbit.”
This is classic Talbot: BT and Tommy are back, the action is intense, and the emotional moments hit hard. I’m thoroughly enjoying this series and can’t wait to dive into the next installment.
Mark Tufo wrapped up the Zombie Fallout series with Book 16, Hiraeth. Here, he figured out a way to tell more Mike Talbot ZA tales without retconning, while still telling new adventures in the ZA world he's created. Really well thought out. The style is still full Zombie Fallout, so if you've like the previous books, you'll enjoy this. The humor is crass, earthy, gross - but also somewhat realistic. I enjoyed another opportunity to hang with some familiar characters.
Probably hovers around a 3 because mostly it's just page after page after page after page after page...(you get the idea) of zombie battles on a train -Like PAGES of it - but then the last few chapters brought it back to a solid 4.3 because Sean Runette gives me chills with the voices and the snivelly dude who is set on a takeover without the skill for a takeover was pitch perfect. I would LOVE this to be be made into a series! LOVE!
I was skeptical. I’m not sure why but I almost DNF’d!!
I’m SO glad I didn’t!
I laughed so hard! This is the 17th book in the ZFO series!! A worthy edition! Loved it & now I want to read book 18!!
Michael isn’t as bad as the TV character MONK but he’s a bit of a hilarious germaphobe fighting through the zombie apocalypse with his wife & kids & military family.
Can never get enough Mike Talbot. Interesting little framing device with the British kids. As for the Saga of Mike, Tier 1 Tufo storytelling for sure: problems with authority, lack of patience for stupidity, disdain for selfish pomposity and enough smart assed remarks to make you feel cozy and at home again. Really hoping I don't have to wait long for the second part of this installment.
If only i could give it more than 5 stars. It was such a joy to read more of Micheal Talbots adventures in a world full of Zombies. Well I say read, i listen to the audio book, i still count it as reading, but others may not. Sean Runnette did a sterling job narrating as always. Well Done Mark Tufo, Well Done Sir
I wasn’t sure if I would be able listen after the last book. I knew how the main crew ended up in the last book, and it seemed to be the end. But luckily for us Mike left books in UK. Creepy zombies in the UK and gross. All in all a good run and looking forward to more stories in the next set of books.
Tufo never fails to write a great action packed story!
I truly hope some day these books are turned into a tv series! I really want to Ser the train adventure on film! Like the others in the series this book is a rollicking adventure story of survival against the zombies and inept humans. The mutating zombies are a fun bonus!
Mark has done it again. More of the merry adventures of the ZF family. Well I told in a different way. No spoilers here, but this tale left me with some questions that I have to ask Mark. Can't wait for #18!!
This is a fun story. As with all of Mike Talbot's adventures there are plenty of zombies, lots of action and more than a few laughs. I look forward to seeing how things go in the next one.
Great as ever. The worst thing about reading a Talbot adventure is the story ends and I'm waiting for the next one. The scary thing is I totally identify with mike.. Maybe why all my shrinks fire me. I blame the military.
Always enjoyable as always. I actually thought book 16 when I read it, was going to be the last. This and the following are a pleasant surprise. Only challenging thing is keeping the different Michael Talbots adventures separate. A little confusing when you have left the franchise for a while.
I've read this entire series more than once and have to say that this particular book had me legitimately laughing out loud on more than a few occasions.
Awesome as always…he always finds a way to keep us interested and right when you think it could be all over, he brings us back with new developments that just keep us wanting more!!
