Rate this book
Maisie Jane Walkup has a secret. Actually, lots of secrets.

After marrying young to a wealthy man, Maisie’s life slowly begins to twist and turn into something she no longer recognizes. Suffering in silence through her abusive marriage, she learns to survive in ways she never thought she could. Everything unravels one fateful night, and innocent Maisie stains her hands with the blood of those who’ve wronged her.

But when a mysterious man appears once more from her past, her carefully laid plans begin to crumble. Jaeger is ruthless in his pursuit of the truth, even if it means sacrificing the heart of the woman he’s obsessed with. It isn’t long before the two are intertwined in ways neither could have imagined. What had started out as a venture to right her wrongs turns into a journey of vengeance and righteous justice for a young woman who deserves a chance to tell her side of the story.

Even in the desolation of depravity, love can bloom anew.

is it weird if i said i liked it, but didn’t even comprehend wtf was going on also? i was just reading for fuck of it, honestly & it totally lost me even more when it came to past & present tense, one of my pet peeves. *sigh* def wanted another epilogue of them two b/c i feel robbed how the author did the ending like that.

This one was pretty good, hitman second chance.

Maisie had it all at one point she thought she had a wonderful life until things turned for the worse. Being abused, cheating on, and raped she had enough with the people who were supposed to be by her side. She took matters into her own hands, and well, she got her revenge. But Maisie thought she was free she was far from it. Enter Jaeger, a hitman and someone from her past she doesn't remember, but he remembers her very well she was the pure thing he saved and let go. Now, what he's going to do to her is personal he wants a confession and info on a drive so he can clean up her mess and fix it. And Mas is strong she fights even if her body betrayes her. The sexual torture the slight mind games he plays she doesn't give in yet. The tension is high between the two, and the more he talks about knowing her, she's just confused about how. But she does break, and he does put her back together. He's just keeping another secret from her that can ruin their relationship.
And when she finds out boy, I'm glad she didn't give in.

My negative about the book was the flashbacks and the HFN of Jaeger leaving Mas for now to take care of business. we get an epilogue, but it's from someone else pov we don't see Mas and Jaeger.

Angst, no real om/ow drama (between the H and h),  cheating (not between h/H), drama, sexy times, no virgins (H was a manwhore Mentioned and she was abused)

"The hardest part, though, was wondering what she had ever done to deserve being treated this way by those who claimed to love her, to be her friend."

I loved everything about this book. Maisie has endured so much pain and heartbreak from the people who claim to love her. She's been taken advantage of at every turn. Simply wanting love and happiness, yet finding it nowhere. Eventually, enough is enough. Maisie finally breaks and takes matters into her own hands. She gets her revenge. A modern day Medusa, if you will. Then in walks Jaeger, a hit man who's been tasked with taking her out. Unbeknownst to her, he's been aware of her for years. An obsession that has simmered. He always planned to make his way back to her, and now is the time. Soon he realizes the trauma she's endured and plans to make her his own no matter what. Seeing the scars both physical, and mental, he shows her how to be truly loved. All while cleaning up the mess that's been made from Maisie's anger fueled revenge.

I mean c'mon. Who doesn't love a knight in shining armor? A man who's soft, yet bad ass at the same time? One who can open up and truly show a woman she's loved? Maybe I felt too much of Maisie's pain and hope so hard that beautiful things still exist as well. Everyone wants a happy ending. Seeing Maisie find hers was such a good feeling.

maisie was taken advantage of and received tooo much pain//suffering from the ones who were supposed to love her most. the flashbacks to her trauma were hard to read//hurt my heart. but i love maisie. i’m glad she got her revenge🤷🏽‍♀️

and jaeger— our southern, morally gray knight in shining armor. i love a man obsessed and the way he shows his maisie girl how to be properly loved repaired my hurt heart.

+ the smut… wowza! ruby is really good at writing the spicy scenes y’all. theres a 🍑 scene and i just want to make an honorable mention that jaeger used lube. lmao i don’t see that often in books so👏🏼👏🏼

if you love dark romance with a revenge plot, you may this like too🖤

[𝚖𝚢 𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚜- i wish we got more time with them together at the ending and i don’t like it when a relationship starts on a lie or an omission of the truth]

After Maisie graduates from high school, she meets the man of her dreams and he sweeps her off her feet. But not all things are as they seem. For years she lives for others, her soul is beaten down, and she loses herself. Until one day she takes matters into her own hands to take back her life.

Enter Jaeger.....a mysterious, deep southern, rugged man that needs get the truth out of Maisie about what really happened that night. He met her once long ago for a brief moment. Enough time to see that the spark she once had in her eyes is long gone. But he is determined to get the spark and the truth back in the most creative ways😏😮‍💨 With that being said Ruby knows exactly what she's doing when it come to the spicy scenes in her books! So damn hot 🥵

Maisie does not make it easy. The trauma she carry's with her keeps her from seeing that Jaeger truly wants to be there and help her heal. She is his Maise girl and will do whatever he can for her ❤️

There are twists and turns that leave you at the edge of your seat. The ending will definitely have you wanting more! 😍

A story of a woman overcoming her trauma and taking fate in her own hands. I was rooting for Maisie for the whole book. She was underestimated by everyone and boy did she prove her worth. Revenge is bittersweet and my favorite part honestly was her resonating with Medusa.
Jaeger is a man of his word. And I respect his stance at the beginning of the book and was thrilled when the truth came out and he did the right thing. He is perfect for helping Maisie heal.

The only thing keeping this from a 5 star is the ending. I loved the epilogue but would of preferred a second one to see how their story really ended. After everything was said and done to see it wrapped up with a pretty yellow bow. I’d also really like to know Hades story. There has to be one right?!?

All the trigger warnings! If you can get passed those it's will work the read! Great character building and I love the writing style in the telling of Mais' story.

The book was pretty good and an easy enough read. The spicy scenes were more about the build up than the actual sex. Wish the epilogue was actually from the POV of either main character.

WHEW. This book has me in an emotional grip right now. This story is so incredibly beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. The writing is so so so good!
Maisie deserves all the love in the world. She endured so much throughout her young life. Her story is painful and I wanted to protect her so bad the entire time. I was disgusted with how many people abused her without a care in the world. Maisie stood up for herself and took her power back. She's a bad bitch and I'm on her side 1000%.

I'm OBSESSED with Jaeger. He's far from perfect, but he's so wonderful. He loves Maisie with everything that he has and would do anything for her. He's so incredibly sweet with her and understands she's on a healing journey. Jaeger knew when he needed to be soft with Maisie as much he knew when she needed him to be rough. He reminds me of the perfect mix of Zade from Haunting Adeline and Zeus from Welcome to the Dark Side 😍

The spice in this book is SO good! The praise mixed with the possessiveness was everything. The bomb pop scene 🥵 IYKYK

This book had me sobbing towards the end because I thought I knew what was happening. But it took a turn and now I have so MANY questions. And I need to see these two again. I can't wait to get the rest of this series!
