PT Esta é daquelas obras que já aguardava há imenso tempo pela sua vez na pilha de leituras. Sendo de Jeff Lemire, isso torna o atraso ainda mais injustificável, mas é o que é: não há tempo para tudo.
Abordei esta leitura com alguma cautela, sobretudo porque os ratings gerais não são particularmente entusiasmantes. Ainda assim, depois de a ter lido, confesso que me custa compreender essa frieza na receção.
A história acompanha uma família americana perfeitamente banal que parece sofrer uma espécie de maldição, na qual alguns dos seus membros começam, de forma gradual, a transformar-se em árvores. Naturalmente, à medida que avançamos na leitura, torna-se claro que esta premissa é apenas a superfície de algo bem mais profundo.
Como é habitual em Jeff Lemire, a narrativa é simples, contida e muito bem escrita, e esta obra não é exceção. Não sendo uma das suas criações que mais me impressionou, ainda assim, devo dizer que gostei bastante da experiência.

EN This is one of those works that had been waiting for its turn on my reading pile for a long time. Being a Jeff Lemire book only makes that delay even more unjustifiable, but it is what it is—there is not enough time for everything.
I approached this read with some caution, especially because the overall ratings are not particularly enthusiastic. Still, after reading it, I honestly struggle to understand that lukewarm reception.
The story follows a perfectly ordinary American family that seems to be afflicted by a kind of curse, in which some of its members gradually begin to transform into trees. Naturally, as the reading progresses, it becomes clear that this premise is only the surface of something far deeper.
As is usually the case with Jeff Lemire, the narrative is simple, restrained, and very well written, and this work is no exception. While it is not one of his creations that impressed me the most, I can nevertheless say that I enjoyed the experience quite a lot.

Well, that was disappointing. There's almost no plot here. Lemire barely does any writing here. Am I supposed to care when there's no characterization whatsoever? What happened to the guy who created Sweet Tooth and all those deep novels like Underwater Welder? Descender was already simplistic, with no likeable people (cause they lacked any character). Lemire can't be excused anymore and I'd buy anything he wrote at some point.

Pomysł na ten komiks był dobry, ale można go było zrealizować lepiej. Pierwszy raz u Lemire'a nie jestem pod wrażeniem kreacji bohaterów, szczególnie matka była bardzo denerwująca. Rysunek przeciętny. Dobrze się czytało, ale raczej nie zostanie ze mną na dłużej. A były zadatki na ekologiczne postapo.

Jeff Lemire é sem dúvida um dos maiores e melhores escritores de BD da atualidade. Esta é mais uma obra notável editada agora em português. A não perder.

JEFF LEMIRE é, actualmente, um dos meus argumentistas/artistas favoritos de comics/banda desenhada, e embora Descender seja, até agora e para mim, a sua obra maior, este Family Tree, apesar das familiaridades de trama pós-apocaliptica, tem novidades e pontos de vista originais no seus detalhes, especialmente na relação emocional entre os seus protagonistas.
É a coisa mais original de sempre? Não. Tem até alguns aspectos já vistos em muitas outras coisas, mas é a maneira como lhes pega, somada à arte pungente de PHIL HESTER, ERIC GASPUR, e RYAN CODY. E há um tom que LEMIRE tem e que o diferencia ao contar uma história.
Vale bem a pena.

It is not Descender, but its a terrific good time, and perhaps an open door to other narratives.

Je suis en amour avec Jeff Lemire since Day one ! Le scénarios, les personnages, tout est incroyablement bien réussi et il réussi avec aisance à nous plonger à chaque fois dans des histoires plus rocambolesques les unes que les autres. Dans cette BD, la nature tente de reprendre la place qu'il lui est dû, essayant de mettre fin à la destruction humaine. Meg a été choisie pour accomplir le sacrifice ultime, qui permettra de sauver la Terre. C'est une grande aventure intergénérationnelle dans un monde post-apocalyptique, où les lien familiaux sont plus importants que tout. J'ai adoré, ça se lit super bien, l'histoire est captivante et ça fait réfléchir. Je la recommanderais sans hésiter !

Nova série de Jeff Lemire em Portugal, óbvio que é leitura obrigatória. A G Floy Studio publicou a série Family Tree, que o autor escreveu em colaboração com o ilustrador Phil Hester, num formato integral que inclui todos os doze números em capa dura. Sou um fã acérrimo de Jeff Lemire, mas Family Tree revelou-se uns furos abaixo do que esperava. Demasiado veloz, sem nos permitir criar empatia com as personagens, ação muito linear e um final non sense. De qualquer forma, a premissa é muito interessante e ler Lemire é sempre agradável.

More a (graphic) short story than a graphic novel, the story was very direct and did not bother too much with the setup and background or explaining why certain things were as they were.
I liked the style, a bit on the gory side though.

Uma leitura que adorei bastante. Jeff Lemire tem o dom de expressar muito bem as emoções com as suas histórias e nesta não foi diferente.
Algo que ajudou bastante foi o trabalho tremendo nas ilustrações, ilustrações essas que prescindem de palavras. Como estamos habituados a ouvir "uma imagem vale mais que mil palavras" e este compilado dos 12 volumes lançados de Family Tree é prova disso. Fica então a vontade de mais leituras deste roteirista, nomeadamente a sua obra Gideon Falls. 😉
