Her books have received Publisher’s Weekly and Kirkus starred reviews, favorable Washington Post and New York Times Book Reviews, and been included in Amazon best books of the year.
Rebecca has ridden in a locked Chevy trunk, has asked the unfortunate delivery guy to release her from a set of handcuffs, and has discovered the best silver mine shafts in which to bury a body…all in the name of research. Honest.
Garrett’s Destiny by Rebecca Zanettti Dark Protectors series #15. Paranormal romantic suspense. Best read as part of the series. Cliffhanger for the overall series but not for this book. Garrett has been looking for his mate for a long time. He doesn’t expect the human female to be more than a short distraction but her recklessness and passion have him ensnared. That she has a tumor and only a short time to live has his protective instincts ruling and she’s thrust into a world she’s never imagined.
Destiny is a lot naïve having been brought up in a secluded school. She soon learns there was a lot more to the school than she knew and she awakens to a paranormal world of demons, Vampires and shifters. Plus her sexual awakening is hot and repeated often. The danger and evil becomes real and tense while her tumor gets worse and the nation must focus on the ultimate ending. The battle is fought and the war is inevitable. Intense, thrilling, steamy and heart melting.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I’ve also purchased multiple formats of this book to keep and share. It’s a favorite series.
ARC provided by NetGalley and Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Dark Protectors how I have missed you. I am normally not a paranormal genre reader, but Rebecca Zanetti can write like no other in this genre for me. Her world description is so well done and plotted that I am sucked into her little world. And what a world it is. It's been a while since I read from the Dark Protector series but when I started reading it's like I never missed a beat. Yep, she's that good.
Garrett, oh where do I begin. This is one alpha male with such a sweet spot for our heroine. He's been on a mission looking for his "mate", he has constant dreams of her and he feels like he's had these dreams forever. But he's got a job to do and a lot rests on his shoulders. So much is happening. He's the protector of his family and will someday be king for the Realm as well. He is trained to kill and almost impossible to kill as he is a member of the Seven. He is a perfect hero in my eyes.
Destiny, our heroine, is out of "college" a very interesting term for where she was educated. Won't go into to much detail but it's a very important part of her story. But Destiny has been given some sad news, she has a "brain tumor" and has months to live. She has had a handful of doctors exam her and all say there is nothing they can do for her.
Destiny and Garrett's story begins with Garrett and his biker friends at a bar. Destiny walks in and needs a little bit of rescuing. And the next thing you know Garrett is determined to keep Destiny safe as there seems to be someone in pursuit of her and she is in some kind of danger. Destiny is determined to experience everything life has to offer since she has been sequestered away in school most of her life. And there is not much of life left for her anyway. So she decides to join Garrett. Plus there is something about him that she finds very fascinating and she can't help notice that he's very handsome too.
Destiny was a sweetheart and strong as well as extremely smart. But there is a mystery surrounding her life and who she really is. She is innocent but yet curious. Determined and eager to learn about life and as well as experience everything that she can. She is kind and funny too. I loved her. But there is definitely more than meets the eye with this heroine.
These two are so sexy and sweet together, with a lot of chemistry. And their relationship is well developed and evolved in a mature manner. Loved them together. They definitely got their HEA. And so loved seeing past characters. And I am defiantly looking forward to future books for some of the secondary characters as well . Hinting here but how about Hope, possibly??? I see a treasure trove of future characters books. Cannot wait.
The writing was excellent. There was nothing boring about this romance. Pacing was excellent and lots of romance, mystery and action. I felt immersed in the world of Dark Protectors and it made me miss them all.
So.... This was one of those filler books where I decided I was going to read something and this ended up being it. I can't say I loved it but I also didn't hate it. It was a pretty middle-of-the-road paranormal romance. I didn't really mesh with the main couple. If I'm being honest I didn't feel the chemistry between them either.
Since this is part of a series I've read only one other book in the overarching plot was kind of lost on me. There were a lot of characters who I'm guessing I was supposed to already know and care about and I was just meh to them all.
Overall I'm concluding that I was/still am in a really strange mood. I've been having a difficult time sticking to the books I choose and actually finishing them. It's been a weird few months. This probably impacted my enjoyment of this book. So maybe take everything I said here with a grain of salt?
Garrett’s story was AMAZING! It was everything I’d been waiting for and more. I never expected all the crazy twists and turns that popped up making me gasp and dig deeper into the book.
Dessie was nothing as I expected. And I loved that. I loved HER! She was such an intriguing heroine. With her personal struggle at the heart of her character, I couldn’t help but try to figure out what was going to happen prior to it happening. I was wrong every…single…time. Which intrigued me more.
Garrett was every bit as alpha as his father before him, which is why I am a huge fan of this series. (And I hate reading a series!) His frustration at the situation he found himself in with Dessie had me smiling one moment and then worried sick the next. I truly didn’t know what was going to happen to these characters.
This is definitely one of the most intense books of the series. The angst, the drama, the danger. It carried me through until almost the very last page. I highly recommend this book and while it could possibly stand alone, I really feel that you need to read the previous books.
Dual POV Safe Triggers Steam 5 /5; explicit; no condoms used ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Every time I read a new book in the series I think I have a new favorite couple. I think I have a new favorite couple! lol. Garrett was super intense. It's so weird to see him grow up in the series and then bam, you get his book and he's this majorly intense alpha that rivals his dad's book. I really like this side of him.
Destiny was just as awesome. She was adorable. Like really adorable. She wore innocence well. And then you get to see another side of her and it really did work for her. Her and Garrett together were such an awesome couple.
We are one step closer in the overall plot. It's getting exciting and I truly can't wait to see how this all plays out. I'm also going to be sad when it's done. I just love all these characters!
Destiny (Dessie) has an inoperable brain tumor and she doesn't have much time left. So she wants to just live her life for as long as she can. When she runs into Garrett and she recognizes him from a dream she had of him and is drawn to him, he doesn't understand why he's also drawn to her. Garrett is a demon-vampire hybrid and one of the seven and is very suspicious of Dessie. All he knows is that he can't let her go until he figures out who or what she is even though everything in him says she's just a human. So she agrees to get on the back of his bike and come with him wherever he's going.
His friends don't really trust her but there's no talking him out of bringing her along. Dessie and Garrett feel a strong pull towards each other but she's not an enhanced female so she can't be his mate even though everything in him says she is. There are more questions than answers when it comes to Dessie for most of the book. But Garrett is not giving up on hoping that his family can somehow cure the tumor in her brain so they can figure out their future.
There's a huge twist about her, the tumor and the past few years of her life. Not to mention the fact that her aunt puts a hit out on her because the money her parents left her. There were so many things going against her and yet she seemed to take most of it in stride while Garrett is the one who's having a hard time dealing with it all and how it all pieced together. Sometimes you can see where a story is going but the twists in this one just kept coming and I never saw them coming or where this story was headed. But they made the storyline so much fun to read.
I've been reading this series from the beginning and have loved the books. But this one was even better than the last few and now I'm looking forward to reading the next one because it looks like the evil being that The Seven have been preparing for...is going to be coming for them soon. I cannot wait!
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved how every chapter seemed to take me in a new direction. One minute I'd be enjoying the growth of the bond growing between Garrett and Destiny, the next I was watching someone killing or dying. There was plenty of romance and action and the author created a fine balance. I still can't get over one of the deaths in this book and I'm excited to see how it factors in the book to come.
Destiny was so much more than expected and I loved how her character had so many layers. Garrett was obviously my favorite in this book (as all the heroes are in their books), but I definitely developed a soft spot for his lady.
There is a HUGE twist in this story and I'm both eager and terrified to read Hope's book, which is next. If you haven't started this series yet, you need to start already!!
This was so good! Action packed and hot, hot, hot! The series arc is coming to a head and I am here for it all! Garrett was just as bad ass as I expected him to be and Destiny was quite the surprise. In many ways. I lived it. Happy reading!
Garrett’s Destiny is book 15 of the Dark Protector series by author Rebecca Zanetti. It's a full length paranormal romance, with multiple POV and a HEA for the couple. Tropes: ✔️ insta-love ✔️ tortured hero ✔️ forced proximity
This steamy, passionate installment of the Dark Protector focuses on Garrett Kayrs, a vampire-demon hybrid who I’ve read about and watched grow from the beginning. He’s devoted to a fault but his loyalties pull him in different directions by being heir to the Realm’s throne, while also part of the circle of Seven and the Grizzly MC.
He also been looking for his mate for a long time. A fierce female who he’s dreamed about riding on the back of his motorcycle who also tries to kill him. So when he encounters Destiny Applegate, a beautiful but very, VERY breakable human, he can’t understand his attraction to her. He can’t mate her because she’s human and doesn’t fit what his dreams have showed him. Yet the compulsion to be with her is irresistible.
There are so many BIG moments in this story for Garrett and Destiny as well as the overall arc of the series that I won’t say anything else about the story itself. I can however, gush about Garrett, he’s grown up to be an amazing son, brother, friend, warrior. I loved each and every scene with him and other characters from the past series so much that it made me want to re-read the entire series!
Dessie’ character is interesting. She’s shrouded in a lot of mystery, but her goodness shines through regardless making her a wonderful match for Garrett. I did feel like there were some loose ends that needed tying at the end though.
The Dark Protectors series is happy place for me. Thrills, smiles and swoons are guaranteed and Garrett’s Destiny is no exception. I loved going to this world and getting an update on what everyone is doing, from the shifters, to the dragons, to the demons and even the Kurjans.
Rebecca keeps introducing new characters who I hope will have their own books in the future, but for now the overall arc regarding Ulric seems to be coming to a close and I CAN. NOT. WAIT. To see what happens next. I truly appreciate how Rebecca keeps adding interesting and original stories to this amazing series.
★ I received an ARC of this title from the author via NetGalley. The excerpts are from that copy. I am voluntarily reviewing this title. ★See all my book edits on Instagram
Absolutely my favorite book to date. Garrett has been searching for his mate for a long time but the woman who just walked into the bar has finally distracted him for a bit.
Destiny is trying to live and experience life. She's so shocked to find the man she's been dreaming about for years.
You guys, this is a beautiful story of a hardened warrior and a human female. I can't tell you much more than that without ruining their story so you're going to have to read it for yourself. It will be worth it. I loved it.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I preordered this book and didn't even remember to place it on my Want to Read shelf! Until I got an email from Amazon today about a new release date❣️ Which will be September 27th, 2022 ❣️ My review should be posted here by the end of September🌠 I'm positive my advanced rating of Five Fantastic Stars will remain so💎⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
*Mild Spoilers* Some familiarity with the series is assumed.
It's been three years since the last book, during which time Garrett has been searching for the mate he's dreamed about. Destiny walks into the diner he's in, literally and figuratively. Destiny "Dessie" Applegate had a vision of Garrett, too, and recognizes him in the diner. Fate seems to have brought them together—but Dessie's human and dying of a brain tumor. Drawn to Dessie, Garrett puts her on the back of his bike and they end up at Realm HQ, where Emma studies Dessie. Things start taking a turn there, and never stop. The book is one surprise, one plot twist, after another. It's jaw-dropping and a wild ride on a rumbling Harley.
I don't recommend reading the book as a standalone. At the very least, readers should have read the Realm Protectors, if not the entire Dark Protectors series. It's well worth it.
Sweet like chocolate, hot like molten lava - all power, all danger, and sheer will dialed up to the max! That’s what it felt like to be immersed in Garrett Kayrs’ story, finally, after drooling over twenty instalments of the Dark Protectors and Realm Enforcers series.
Garrett arguably has the most competing responsibilities on his plate: a ritualized inductee of The Seven, having sworn allegiance to the Grizzlies MC, and being nephew and heir apparent to the King of the Realm. So well written, I never doubted for a second that Garrett’s broad shoulders could handle the strain. His focus these past few years has been to find his mate, a woman seen in a vision as deadly and dangerous, riding behind his motorcycle. He needs to find her before embarking on his secret goal of taking out Ulric, leader of the Kurjan Cyst (and a threat to all enhanced women worldwide) before Hope and his Seven brethren could come to harm.
There’s no such thing as a slow intro with Rebecca Zanetti. The action and intrigue start from the first few paragraphs and never pauses to take a break! When Destiny Applegate walks into the roadside diner where Garrett and the Grizzlies have taken a rest stop, I wanted the adorable, brainy, spunky auburn beauty to be the One. But, she’s human! Over and over again the clues didn’t match up. She has a terminal condition that has her counting up her future in days, not years. Can Garrett save her, or survive losing her? I love how my favourite paranormal author can still surprise me and keep me guessing, so deeply immersed into the Dark Protectors world. Garrett is persistent, commanding, tender, sexy, protective and everything I needed him to be. So satisfying, I’ll have to read it again and again.
(Gratefully reviewed for the author and publisher via NetGalley ARC.)
5 stars!! I have been addicted to this series ever since I read book 1, I have literally read the entire series back to back….now to wait til October for the final instalment….aargh!!!!!
Series: Dark Protectors #15 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
Like most people who have read this series from the beginning, I had been eagerly waiting for Garrett’s story. Garrett has been with us throughout this whole series and we have seen him grow into an independent and dangerous man. He is heir to the throne and will do anything to protect his family, including become a member of the Seven.
A lot happens with the overarching story in this one. It’s been three years since the events in the previous book and Garrett finally finds his mate, but he doesn’t realize it at first. Garrett and Destiny were a solid couple and I enjoyed their story. Dessie was an extremely strong woman who believes she is dying of a brain tumor and is trying to live her life to the fullest. She was a great heroine and I liked that she wasn’t afraid to stand up to Garrett or any of the other men when necessary. Garrett is an alpha male who is extremely protective and determined to protect his family, and destroy Ulric. Garrett’s controlling nature was off putting for me at times. I got really angry at him in one scene because he says it's Dessie’s decision when they will mate but then turns around and tries to use the mating mark as blackmail to prevent her from having a surgery. It was very frustrating, especially considering I was really expecting to love Garrett.
One of the great things in this book was that it spent a lot of time with Garrett’s family so we got to see a lot of the original couples. It has been a long time since we checked in with some of these couples and it was just great seeing them again. I especially liked the happy news during these trouble times. It also gave us more time with Hope. I am very interested in seeing how her story plays out because she is the Lock. I am a bit tired of the love triangle between Hope/Pax/ Drake that is going on. Also, Hope is being very naive where it comes to Drake and I don’t understand why she trusts him.
For the overarching story, the Kurjan’s are still finding new ways to attack the Realm and members of the Seven. They have gotten very creative at it. We also finally have the event that has been building for the past few books, Ulric’s release. It was a bit surprising it happened in this book because it was very sudden. I will be very interested in seeing how the Seven deal with the situation in the next book. Overall, this was a good addition to the series, even with my complaints with Garrett.

PS : to the publisher and Netgalley, thank you so much for the ARC =D

A book that I was waiting for with great impatience and that I devoured far too quickly !
FINALLY the book of Garrett ! While waiting for the release of this book, I reread the entire series to help me be more patient ... And it's so weird to think that Garrett who was SO cute when his teeth came out had become a grumpy and sexy biker =D
What I particularly liked :
- the ever-rich universe ! I love all the specificities of this author's vampires (the mating marks <3), all the different factions that clash ... Addictive !
- the multiple plots that are exciting ! The mystery around Destiny's past intrigued me a lot (I was SO NOT expecting the truth !) but it's mostly the big intrigue with the Seven and that crazy Ulric that kept me on my toes (that scene at the end ... I think I was just as PANICKED as the other characters xD) I can't wait to see what's going to happen now !
- the main characters ! Of course, I always liked Garrett (a sexy and badass vampire without being as medieval as his father ... Well, not too much ;)) but Destiny was a very good surprise ! I loved her very "girl next door" side, the way she remains so courageous despite all the hardships she has suffered (LOVE when she stands up to Dage AND Talen !)
- the secondary characters (special mention for Jordan and Katie whom I loved seeing again !)
- the romance that was both sexy and cute !
In short, a book that will mark a turning point in the series! I can't wait for the next book ! For fans of urban fantasy and boiling hot romance, I recommend it !
PS : to the publisher and Netgalley, thank you so much for the ARC =D
Mates," don’t touch her or you’ll die" vibe, shifters, vampires, immortals, SPICE… If that doesn't get your attention, what's gonna work?
When Destiny meet Garrett, she recognizes him instantly. He saved her life years ago… In a dream. Garrett feels a force pulling him towards Dessie, but cannot explain how or why. She’s only humain after all… He’s looking for his mate since forever, could that be her?
Garrett’s Destiny by Rebecca Zanetti is the 15th instalment of her Dark Protector series. I received an ARC and I have to confess that I haven't read the previous books, because I never knew they existed…
Shame on me! And I will add the series to my TBR pile for sure. That beings said, I really enjoyed the story of Garrett and Destiny. Obviously, I lacked the background of the universe they're evolving in, but the author led the way. Being a professional reader, I caught up pretty quick with the story but it’s not a standalone.
All the ingredients where there for a paranormal romance. Great story, good spice, I wanted them to be together. At first, I found that Destiny was a bit off, her character seemed naive and bordering simple. But that was all part of the author’s plan. You end up with a strong MFC with a background story that will blow your mind.
The book was fast pace. I find the ending was precipitated. But maybe I just wanted the story to continue. But still, I would've loved more closure. Don’t get me wrong, you get all the answers you need with a great HEA. And there's definitely a 16th book!
Now I’m just hooked to the Dark Protector series. I recommend for the paranormal aspects, the spice, and the fast read.
“You’re my mate,” he said simply. “You/re my responsibility, and my word is law.”
Garrett’s Destiny is the 15th book in Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors series. I am constantly amazed at how she can keep me coming back after all these books, the depth of the characters, the twists and turns and the steam are just perfection.
We’ve been following Garrett for what feels like forever, his parents are Talen and Cara from book ONE, and in the past couple of books he has been dreaming about a strong, fierce female riding with him on his motorcycle. Imagine his surprise when he is pulled to a not enhanced, completely human Destiny, whose not only average but dying from a brain tumor. Now Garrett has the responsibility of Seven, The Realm, killing Ulric and trying to cure his mate. There is a lot at stake and going on but I loved every second of it!
Garrett is finally getting his HEA, I feel like I need to yell that! He as sacrificed so much to be in the Seven, he loves his family so deeply that having him dream about Destiny and finally meeting her is wonderful! I loved that Destiny was not what she seems, that there was so much mystery around her and that she kept Garrett on his toes! Their make out sessions to sex were super hot!
Garrett’s Destiny has everything I love from a Zanetti Dark Protectors book. An Alpha “touch her you die” vampire/demon, a strong heroine, heat and suspense. In this book we got so much of the continuing love triangle of Paxton, Hope and Drake!!! The appearances of past Dark Protector couples - Talen, Cara, Katie, Jordan, and Janie and Zane (who are one of my all time favorites), made me so happy.
This section of the series seems to be coming to a head with the big battle with Ulric looming, trying to determine what’s Hope’s role in it all and who will be standing at the end. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
Thank you to the publisher (Kensington) for an e-ARC through NetGalley. All thoughts are my own. Garrett’s Destiny has a pub date of October 25, 2022.
Garrett's Destiny is one installment I've been waiting a long time to read. We met Garrett early on and I've been anxiously awaiting the mate of his dreams, as has he. These dreams have been tormenting him for years.
Over the years, Garrett's allegiances have grown. He's the nephew of the Realm's king, a Grizzly and a member of the Seven. He's there for them all, always doing whatever is necessary to help them all. Now, as he's certain he's found his mate, he needs their help to save her.
Destiny (Dessie) Applegate is just as surprised to see Garrett as he is to see her when their paths cross at a diner. He won't let her go and she's willing to stay to explore her feelings and the wildness of Garrett while she can.
I have to say, I was a little bit thrown by Garrett's reactions and responses to Destiny initially. It all felt a bit aggressive, which I guess was expected from this vamp/demon hybrid. Still, it was a bit off-putting, but probably because of my love of this series and its characters I got sucked into their story and got past it. The two are a good pairing, a great battle match, for sure. And, I was intrigued by Destiny's, well, Destinies.
I'm so very excited for Hope's book next (Warrior's Hope), which has been a loooong time coming! Sucks we've got to wait a year, but what's another year when we've waited this long? Torture! That's what!!
Side note: I loved the interactions with Bear's family! His girls are awesome!
Absolutely loved this book of Garrett finding his mate in Destiny❣️Much like the other books this one is action packed, filled with drama and suspense and of course characters I’ve come to love and feel a part of😍 I won’t say too much other than to say I was enthralled and did not want to stop reading and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this Immortal world and the fight with Ulric😳
A fantastic read and I’m hoping Hope’s book is next😉 I received an advanced copy via Netgalley and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
Finally we get Garrets book, I've been waiting and hoping for his book for a long long time now. It didn't disappoint. Previously we got some clues as to Garrets mate from the dreams he talked about and I was honestly worried for him. He already had so much pressure from all sides that a mate who was a hardass trying to kill him, sounded like it was going to be a rough ride. I should never doubt Ms.Zannetis story telling, she obviously had plan from the start and made Dessie the perfect match for Garret. She was strong but had a soft core that I think Garret really needed in a mate. This book continues the storyline of The Seven as we get closer and closer to a show down with Ulric. This book revealed a lot of new information and had lots of twists and turns that I was constantly trying to figure out where the author was going to take the story. The odds were heavily stacked against Garret and Dessie but they never gave up trying to find a way to beat those odds. Looking forward to the next book, I'm wondering if it might be Hope's book, which I already know is going to be a look good. Recommend this addition to the series and the series as a whole for all my PNR lovers out there.
P.S. If you aren't team Pax, we can't be friends. Sorry not sorry.
Rebecca Zanetti can write steamy supernatural romance stories that will keep a tribe of readers. Book 15 in the Dark protectors is one that her fans have been waiting for since started reading about the Vampire Demon Karys series.
That being said the author has relied on her same story telling and the characters are the only things that changes. The story brings readers closer to understanding the key and Seven connection to the fixing the miss they made thousands of years earlier.
That being said Garrett is as expect and the cheesy named female lead Destiny Applegate is as you expected. Sex, I am mad do as I say, female I will do what I want and yada yada. More sex and end! The female names are cheesy and as always everyone is beyond amazing and attractive.
I hate to say the one part of this addition to the series is it bring readers closer to the reason the Keys and lock are so important to the supernatural world.
Thank you to Netgalley for advance copy of Rebecca Zanetti Garrets Destiny
4.5 stars—GARRETT’S DESTINY is the fifteenth full length instalment in Rebecca Zanetti’s contemporary, adult DARK PROTECTORS erotic, paranormal/fantasy series. This is Vampire/Demon member of the circle of Seven Garrett Kayrs, and Destiny Applegate’s story line. GARRETT’S DESTINY should not be read as a stand alone. I recommend reading the series in order, or at the very least, this particular arc of the series focusing on the group of Seven beginning with book eight VAMPIRE’S FAITH, as there is a on-going premise throughout.
SOME BACKGROUND: A thousand years earlier, a number of immortal warriors went through a ritual that, if they survived, hardened their bodies against attack, a ritual meant to create a group of Seven known as The Shield. The Shield was created to protect the world from an evil race of vampires known as the Kurjans, their sect group known as the Cysts, and ultimately a rogue warrior once considered a friend- Ulric-a male of immense power. To protect the human race, Ulric was captured, and along with two of the Seven, was encapsulated in one of three spheres for all eternity but the spheres are no longer capable of holding the ‘Seven’, and the warriors have returned to Earth. As the warriors search for the ‘Keys’ to perform the ritual, the ‘Lock’ must be protected in order to take down the evil that is hoping to take over the world.
Told from a number of third person perspectives following several intersecting paths using present day, memories and dream sequences GARRETT’S DESTINY follows the building relationship between Vampire/Demon member of the circle of Seven Garrett Kayrs, and Destiny Applegate. A chance meeting, a possible meeting of fate, found Destiny Applegate at the mercy of Garrett Kayrs. Garrett believe he has found his mate but all clues and scenarios pointed to something else. Destiny had once dreamed about our story line hero, and Garrett expected a different female to claim as his mate. An Immortal male could only mate with an enhanced human female but for all intents and purposes Destiny was merely human whose life expectancy was about to be measured in weeks, not in years. Destiny is something else: not quite immortal yet not quite human, and in this, the secrets lay buried deep within our story line heroine, within the symbols that have marked her as other, as possibly belonging to someone else. As the Seven, the Demons, the shifters and the vampires unite in an effort to take down a male they once considered a friend, Destiny is pulled into the dreamscape where Ulric is about to claim Destiny as the ultimate prize. While Garrett struggles to prove to Destiny she is his mate, Destiny is convinced her future survival, and that of the man with whom she has fallen in love, lies not in the real world but in the world where Ulric currently resides. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Garrett and Destiny, and the potential fall-out as Destiny’s future has been mapped out since before her birth.
Once again, eighteen year old Hope Kayrs-Kyllwood is torn between friendship and love, duty and family as it pertains to her relationship with Paxton Phoenix, and young Kurjan warrior Drake. Drake, Paxton and Hope have been dream-walking together for years but betrayal may come at the cost of their friendships, a friendship predicated upon secrets and lies. Drake’s connection to the Kurjan and Cysts may be what takes down the Seven, a connection tightly woven with a young female who is purported to be the ‘hope’ of the immortal world.
The relationship between Destiny and Garrett begins acrimoniously as Garrett believes Destiny has arrived with evil purpose but as far as Destiny is concerned, what little time left she wants to spend living a life . Destiny is more or less a prisoner of the Demon nation, and as such she is at the mercy of their warriors, doctors, and researchers, as everyone battle time in an effort to save our story line heroine but a secret buried deep is about to surface, and with it, Destiny becomes a threat to Garrett and the group known as the Seven. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters as everyone gathers in an effort to take down and stop a man they once called a friend. Destiny may be the ‘key’ to stopping Ulric but blood is the ultimate key to opening the lock.
GARRETT’S DESTINY is a complex and detailed story that reveals and merges several plot elements as Seven come closer to taking down their current foe. The premise is intriguing, entertaining and exciting; the romance is seductive and passionate; the characters are powerful, charismatic and strong.
This tells the story of Garrett Kayrs, nephew of the King of the Realm, vampire-demon hybrid, and member of the Seven. If none of that makes any sense to you then I suggest you start reading one of the earlier books because for me the romance is very much inferior to the overarching storyline about the ongoing war between the Kurjans and the Realm over the fate of Enhanced human females. The Kurjan leader, Ulric, who sacrificed one hundred enhanced females to make himself invincible, was trapped by the Seven in a demon realm but the barriers are weakening and it is only a matter of time before he breaks free.
Destiny Applegate has just left her sheltered life at an exclusive boarding school on a remote island, she runs into Garrett when the man she is with tries pushing her around in a diner, which just happens to be full of Garrett's motorcycle club, the Grizzlies (which is 90% actual Bear shifters). Destiny immediately recognises Garrett as the man of her dreams, a man she has been in love with most of her life, but Garrett suspects that she is a trap set by the Kurjans.
The series arc is driving ever closer to the big showdown and there are a lot of really good reveals in this story. Unfortunately, for me, the rinse-and-repeat nature of the romance is becoming a bit tedious. Every single member of the Seven has to be bossy and force their mate to their will, they always have to be dominant, they always have to display their dominance through spanking (which to me has an icky parental punishment vibe - using your greater strength to punish someone smaller and weaker), there is alway hair-pulling and growling and metaphorical peeing on the woman to show ownership. Honestly I just skim through all the sex scenes as quickly as possible because they are all the same from book to book - I could not tell you in fifteen books if a single male made love in a different way (loads of people are about to prove me wrong). Couldn't just one of them be gentle and respectful, maybe even not sure she could like him? It's all a bit one-dimensional.
Every time I start one of these books my eyes roll at the repetitiveness of the sex and I think, 'this is the one I can't finish, this is where it ends' and then I get sucked into the story arc and carried along until I rock up at the end of the book shouting 'what a ride!'
So, in summary, series arc gets four, maybe four and a half stars, romance gets three, maybe even two and a half stars. Averages out to three and a half stars.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
After fifteen-plus books, it is still possible to be thrown for a loop in this exciting series.
Garrett has a lot to live up to. He is the heir to the Realm and one of the Seven meant to stop Ulric from wreaking havoc on the world. And in his dreams his future mate is trying her best to kill him. Destiny carries the heavy burden of a brain tumor with little time left. She throws all caution to the wind when she meets Garrett and climbs on the back of his motorcycle. Garrett is drawn to Destiny, but she is only human, and can therefore not possibly be his mate. Or can she?
Destiny was either very brave or very stupid, or possibly both, to just jump into an adventure with Garrett and his motorcycle gang friends. Right from the start they were drawn to each other and that drove almost all of their decisions. She never shied away from trying something new and completely embraced this chance to do something daring with her last days. Even when the truth about her condition started to unfold, she just bravely soldiered on without a single thought of giving up.
Garrett was the strong pillar of strength behind Destiny’s uncertainty. He took his self-imposed job of protecting her very seriously, even though a part of him realized that he might have to give her up at some point. I really loved the two of them together.
Between Destiny’s condition, Hope’s dream world visits, the Realm’s increasing role in the Seven’s plan, help from the rest of the Seven, and so much more the surprises just kept coming. I love how everything unfolded at just the right pace.
I can recommend this entire series if you like steamy paranormal romance with lots of action and suspense. It is definitely best to start at the beginning.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Four and a half Finally Garrett gets to meet his Mate and this story just sizzles from the very beginning ! Garret is pulled in so many directions with alligences that truly test not only him but the forbearance of those who love him. Convinced that his future lies with a dangerous female who will match him for ferociousness he is totally blindsided by the ever so sweet and innocent Destiny who somehow feels she knows him. Destiny is ready to live her life to its fullest and Garrett is exactly who she wants to experience things with but the insanely bossy male doesn’t trust her but then again maybe his instincts are right and danger is right in front of him ! This was a fabulous addition to the series as things are hotting up and the Kurjons and their leaders now have the ability to go out in sunlight. The Realm is slowly coming to terms with the disastrous acts of the Seven but there’s still a lot of trust to regain as Ulric gets closer to his freedom and the senseless deaths of so many who should be protected. This book simply hurtled along with shocks and revelations that will definitely reverberate in the next book. I loved that Destiny wasn’t afraid to argue with or disobey Garrett although I’m not sure she actually helped their cause but alas my lips are closed. This had my favourite Protectors front and centre with humour and touching moments that delighted this reader. I think the next instalment will be a hot mess for these characters as things have most certainly come to a head but I’m onboard for more particularly if the younger generation of characters get to shine because this world is exciting and full of possibilities. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Destiny has a brain tumor and doesn’t have much time left, so when Garrett invites her to take a trip with him, she willing hops on the back of his motorcycle. It helps that she recognized him from a dream. But then he takes her to the Realm to have their doctors figure out how to save her, she learns that there is more out there than humans. They also discover that there’s more to Destiny than meets the eye, and there’s a rush to figure it out before it’s too late.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was seeing so many characters from the previous books. It was nice to catch up with everyone. Even though Garrett’s family is mad at him for joining The Seven, they don’t hesitate to support him and Destiny, even though they didn’t know her.
The Hope/Pax/Drake triangle is still going on. Drake is still a mystery to me, and I can’t tell if he wants to use Hope for his own purposes or if he genuinely cares about her. Pax also has his own secrets; I’m looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds.
Things with Ulric are coming to a head, and it appears the final battle is approaching. While I’m sad this part of the storyline is nearing its end, I can’t to see what happens.
This is the fifteen book in the series, and I would recommend at least starting with book 8, Vampire’s Faith, as this is where the storyline involving The Seven versus Ulric begins. Each story has been building off of that, and I feel if you start here, you might end up confused about some things.
Once again, Rebecca Zanetti has outdone herself. It’s hard for a series to remain fresh when there are so many books in it, yet she manages to keep it so flawlessly.
