Review: Delivering Massive Value is a guide for financial advisors to help them truly improve their practices and, as you guessed it, deliver massive value to their clients. It is written by Mathew Jarvis, a highly successful financial advisor and host of The Perfect RIA podcast (which is excellent). This book is an easy read, filled with humor, wisdom, and tough love from Jarvis, who holds you accountable throughout.
At the time of finishing this book, I have not yet begun my career as a financial advisor, so it is difficult to fully apply its lessons. However, I learned a tremendous amount from it, and I believe reading this before starting my career will give me a significant advantage. Instead of "trying to invent mediocrity," as Jarvis puts it, I can model the processes that have led to his success and, hopefully, avoid many of the mistakes he made early in his career. While it’s hard to say for certain now, I truly believe this book will pay for itself a thousandfold over the course of my career.
I discovered this book through a recommendation from a financial advisor on LinkedIn after I asked, "Which books would you recommend for a financial advisor?" Now, when I get asked the same question, this will definitely be one of my top recommendations. Overall, I learned a ton from this book and am excited to implement some of these strategies when I begin my career!
Lessons Learned: Surge Meetings, One Page Financial Plan, Retirement Guardrails, Quarterly Value Adds, and The Importance of Tax Planning as an Advisor.
Who Should Read It: Financial Advisors Looking to Improve Their Practices!
I have read numerous books on how to be a high quality financial advisor and I have done several coaching programs and worked with 5 different well regarded coaches. Matthew’s book stands head and shoulders above much of the content that I have found elsewhere. His recommendations are proven to work and I am already seeing benefits in my own business.
Very informative book with a lot of free scripts and handouts. If you are ultra motivated and implement all of his guidance, you will be highly successful. It will take a lot of work but it sets you up for success.
This book took a while to get through because is delivers so much massive value. I will definitely be rereading it frequently as I implement each of these practices in my firm. The book bonuses are incredibly generous and I am grateful for the time I will save from not having to create these documents from scratch.
In general I find Matthew Jarvis incredibly arrogant and off putting... if you can get past that his book is full of really tangible, practical tips on practice management. I highly recommend it and I will probably read it a second time.
Amazing book! Truly one of the best books for financial planners out there. Written by someone who has mastered the craft first hand. Thank you Matthew for writing this.
Gives you a great foundation for running your own RIA. Definitely read this book if you’re just starting out or have been in the industry for a while and want to start your own thing.
Very good for new advisors plus some great ideas for experienced ones. I've followed Matthew some since Kitces episode 7. His process for systemization is impressive. I felt the audiobook sounded a bit too aloof/abrasive when talking about clients. I hope Matthew sounds more sincere in actual client meetings. He's obviously been very successful, so probably so.
