Holly Hopewell had been banned from the North Pole to the small town of Mistletoe, Oregon, notorious for its grumpy, cranky residents. But Holly - after twelve months in the town - discovered she loved it and was determined to cheer up Mistletoe and all the inhabitants. Holly was an elf, as were a lot of Mistletoe's people, and her cafe, filled with baked deliciousness, drew customers from near and far. The council meeting that was to approve (or not) Holly's request for funding for the Christmas lights, saw her bring a plate of her to-die-for brownies, but one particular councilor saw it as a bribe and they rejected Holly's request.
But when a councilor died right in front of Holly, her shock was immense. And when Holly became a suspect in his murder, both she and Harry, her detective beau, were determined to prove she was being framed. As the mystery deepened, so did the danger...
Elf Confidential is the 2nd in the Hope Hollywell series by Meg Muldoon and it was hugely fun and entertaining. Mischief, mayhem, magic and more - this cosy mystery is well worth recommending.

Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. Mistletoe, Oregon, is not a very friendly, happy place. The citizens are miserable and unfriendly. Except for the elves, they are full of cheer, happiness and goodwill. But they are having a tough time sharing that happiness. And when a city councilor is poisoned, Holly will have to try to figure out the real culprit. Otherwise she may be sent away for life. With the help of her boyfriend, Harry, who is a detective, she is planning on doing just that.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and those descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was well developed and I thought it was solved quite cleverly.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I was very happy to take a trip to Mistletoe and spent some time with Holly and Harry. I am already looking forward to reading the next one.
I have waited a long time for this second book of this series and was not disappointed. This is without a doubt one of my all time favorites. Such a cute story about an elf who has been banished to a gloomy little town called Mistletoe, who has a knack for baking and a penchant for trouble. The writing is top-notch with witty dialog that is in keeping with the Christmas theme and Santa and th North Pole and all of its fixtures! All I can say is keep the books coming!
I didn't really expect to like these as well as I do. They're cute, fun, nicely developed pieces of book candy. I'm glad that the endings are well developed, too, and that everything doesn't just end abruptly. Yay, Meg!
I’ll admit it – what drew me to the series in the first place was the fun book covers. The first book was entertaining enough to make me want to read more, and this second book is included in Kindle Unlimited, so I decided to read it before my KU subscription expires.
The idea of a town where former North Pole elves go to live is fun, but I don’t understand how the non-elf residents of the town don’t recognize the elves living among them. Aren’t elves supposed to be considerably shorter than most human beings? Wouldn’t you notice them, especially if there are a lot of them?
I like most of the characters in these books, although the nearly perpetual cheerful and perky attitudes of the elves is enough to set almost anyone’s teeth on edge. The mystery under investigation here is the months-old disappearance of an elf , and Holly is determined to learn what happened to him. There were a lot of twists and turns in the story, and it wasn’t until just before it was revealed in the book that I figured it all out.
The very end of this book alluded to events to come, but this appears to be the last book in the series. I would love to read more about Holly and the rest, but apparently, this is the end of the story.
It seemed like forever for this second installment to come out. I loved the silence of the elves, and I loved this one! Can not wait to read more, and hopefully very soon!
