Malfunction Junction: Memphis Stories of Stops, Starts, Wrong Turns, & Dead Ends

Rate this book
Malfunction Junction sits in the heart of Memphis as a constant reminder that not all stories take place at a crossroads. Some happen while sitting in traffic, turning around in a cul-de-sac, or just trying to start your car on a cold day.

Come meet the people of Memphis as they try to navigate their own journeys. These fictional accounts range from the everyday to the fantastic. From the glass pyramid downtown to the scenic pathways along the Wolf River, each story is wrapped around characters who are distinct, yet vaguely familiar.

A lot of great stories that showcase different aspects of the city. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a variety of strange and interesting tales that all take place in and near Memphis!

Malfunction Junction is a collection of shorty stories written by a group of Memphis writers about the Memphis and midsouth area. Each story is unique and different. The stories reflect the sort of love each author has for the area which connects them. One story involves a mummy in the Memphis Pyramid. Other stories feature various Memphis landmarks such as the Greenline, downtown cobblestones, Beale St, or the jammed interstate where the anthology takes its name from. Other stories simply reflect the Midtown, suburban, or urban areas within the city. Whether they are funny, scary, thoughtful, or bordering on insane, they are entertaining one way or the other. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a different way of getting some local flavor.

While Malfunction Junction possesses a certain charm and enthusiasm, it falls short in terms of consistency and depth of storytelling. While a few stories show glimpses of potential, the majority remain mundane and uninteresting.
