Whispers from the Hill: A History of the Dr. French House, George Washington Park & Shuter's Hill

Rate this book
This is the story of a small, modest house that has stood on Shuter’s
Hill in Alexandria, VA for over 150 years. Shuter’s Hill has an
interesting history going back to the very founding days of America.
George Washington really did walk and ride on Shuter’s Hill, and he
even escorted a bride from Shuter’s Hill down the aisle!

At the corner of Highland and Braxton Place, the Dr. French house
was built around 1869 and appears on the 1879 Map of Washington,
DC. Read this short history and consider the meanings of “place”
and “home” in light of this specific place and this well-loved home.
