Brain Worms: How Right-Wing Propaganda Destroys Reason, Conscience, and Democracy

Rate this book
The American Right is running humanity off a cliff. Climate change is accelerating, threatening to destroy the planet. Social and economic inequality continue to worsen, preventing millions of people from living up to their potential. We’re lucky we haven’t blown ourselves up yet in a nuclear war—the possibility of which is now greater than ever. Our political institutions are becoming brittle, preventing us from governing ourselves in accordance with our goals. These problems persist despite readily-available solutions. Why? Because the Right has driven half the country insane. They’ve spent decades inundating us with propaganda, destroying much of our capacity to consider, let alone implement solutions to society’s most urgent problems. Brain Worms sheds light on how elites and their supporters—particularly on the Right—trick people into accepting ideas that run contrary to society’s interests, and exposes the ideological barriers we need to overcome if we hope to make the world livable for future generations, and in the meantime bring about meaningful improvements to peoples’ lives.

This book came to me from library thing member giveaway and i am so happy to have it and to have read it. And, yes, the Rumpers always have ready answers to justify their rape and pillage campaign to own America all its assets. In this book the author address destroys the mythology the Turtle feeds to an electorate eager to embrace programs anti-thetic to their best interest. Tax breaks for the wealthy paid for by the rest of us. Just one example of feeding the rest of us bullshit while wealthy profit from the dog and pony show they put on for people who would rather be entertained than do the hard work of checking the facts. One of many ways people in power manipulate the facts to create a slavery we call the working class. I admit this revue is short on definite examples as the author devotes each of the chapters to a certain class of the many lies that confront us every day in our daily confrontation with consequences of the harmful actions taken by people working to ruin our democracy to benefit themselves!
