Trusting God. It's such a cliché. Yet nothing means more to our heavenly Father than when we surrender our lives completely to him and choose to believe he has our best in mind. David modeled that kind of deliberate dependence: as a shepherd boy, as a man running for his life, as a king who made grave mistakes. In both triumph and failure, David looked to God rather than to himself.

This book came at a good time in my life. I was very blessed to have this book be chosen for our Women's Bible study. There were some very thought provoking chapters in here. I did a lot of highlighting in this book and I'm glad I did.
Joanna's words and stories in this book will help you "Embrace Trust"in your own life. I nodded along, teared up, and journaled my way through it. Her words will challenge you and strengthen your faith. Packed with biblical references and powerful quotes, it’s one I refer back to often and reccomended to friends going through difficult times.
Wow I am never disappointed by a Joanna Weaver book but I think this one takes the cake. Twenty years of work was worth waiting for. I love the personal stories that help explain what she is trying to help us understand about trusting God. It makes it so much more real and understandable. I could read this book again and again and get something new out of it each time.
I participated in a 10-week Bible study in which we read this book. It was helpful to me in a season of trusting in God while struggling with big questions (Why? How will He use this? What's next?). The phrase that comes to mind about this book is "foundation healing." If there are cracks in the foundation of your faith, "Embracing Trust" gives insight on how to find and heal them as you trust in the Lord. Overall, I found the book to be gentle and hopeful. I felt that the chapter on forgiveness could have been more nuanced, more about how to heal real hurt than simply choosing not to be offended. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'm thankful for the group experience of reading and discussing it.
Such an excellent book! Joanna Weaver has such conversational way to her writing that makes it so easy to read! Throughout this book she weaves the beautiful truth of letting go in surrender and holding on in faith to the ever Faithful God, Jesus Christ ❤.
Speaks to Your Heart! This is a book that speaks to your heart and touches your soul. We say we trust God …but do we really deep down? It helps you evaluate your relationship with God and how to believe and truly trust him in all that you do! It has helped me deepen my relationship with God and truly believe that “He is who He says He is”! This book is a beautiful faith building experience. I can’t wait to read it again with my small group!
Well, wouldn't you know it... one of my all-time favorite authors has gone and done it again, writing yet another book that moves me to tears and encourages my heart at the same time.
When I get the chance to read Joanna Weaver's words, I jump at it. And when that book happens to be all about trusting God - well, can I say with total honesty that it wasn't only a book that I needed to read, but that it was a book that needed to read me?
My life has been rocky as of late. In spite of my best efforts in certain areas (primarily my health), I feel as if each day brings me ever-worsening news. Maybe you can relate. It's one thing to know I am indulging the flesh; it's another thing entirely when I am trying NOT to indulge my flesh, and things don't get any better. That's a hard place to find yourself, and that's exactly where I was when I began reading Embracing Trust: The Art of Letting Go and Holding on to a Forever-Faithful God.
I need, so desperately, my God to be ever faithful to me here in this hard place.
And this book Joanna penned has been encouraging and helpful in so many ways as I've navigated these new changes in my life and my inability to make my body "get healthier", no matter how hard I work at it.
God has extended hope and peace to me through this book. And for that, I will never be able to fully thank Joanna for taking the time to write it. One day, in eternity, I suspect the Lord will show her just how precious this book has been to me at this precise moment in my life.
Perhaps more than a typical book review, this is a thank you note. Thank You, Father, for being faithful. Thank You, Jesus, for being my Savior. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for helping me see that I cannot be enough of a "good girl", even in regard to my health, to take care of myself. Thank you, Joanna, for being a conduit for the Lord to speak through.
I have finished reading Embracing Trust for the first time, but it won't be the last! This book is so well structured with a multitude of suggestions and practical applications to follow to deepen our walk with God. A few examples are: Ten faith building exercises, lessons from the life of Joseph and eight ways to cultivate the gift of discipline. There is a list of attributes of God with wonderful descriptions. There are many open, honest illustrations from Joanna's own experience. One of the most thought provoking chapters for me was The Unoffendable Heart; how I would love for my life to be more consistent in this area! Joanna explains areas in our lives that make us susceptible to being offended. She gives the beautiful hope that as we choose to let go of offenses (again and again and again) , the Spirit develops within us the unoffendable heart of Jesus. Joanna also lists nine ways to cultivate an unoffendable heart. This book will be a very valuable resource for any woman who wants to find more freedom by placing her trust in God.
Trusting God is a challenge every person faces. Even the most seasoned saint sometimes questions why God does what He does and struggles with the timing of when He does it. Whether you are a seasoned saint or a struggling starter in faith, this book will challenge and encourage you to open your arms, stretch out your step and jump into the arms of a loving Father.
Joanna Weaver’s passionate heart for loving Jesus and serving her reader undergirds every chapter of this book. Joanna’s openness and vulnerability about her own struggles with trust punctuate her on-point biblical teaching with grace and humility. I saw myself in her struggles and nodded in agreement at lessons learned. Full of Scripture as well as stories of others who have learned to embrace trust, Embracing Trust will help you navigate your questions and take the plunge into a deeper, more satisfying relationship with God.
Joanna Weaver's latest book has arrived at a time when it seems more than ever we no longer know who to trust. I was reminded time and again that God's the One in control. As Weaver writes, "...God's sovereignty is always weighted in our favor." She reminds us that God "...is working on our behalf" -- always! I love her gentle reminder that we aren't called to live politically or fearfully, but Biblically, as followers of Christ.
I definitely recommend Embracing Trust. It's a tight hug of book that reminds me to keep my eye on Jesus.
I'm still reading and absorbing this book. It's one of those books that grip the head and the heart. Joanna Weaver's book, Embracing Trust is a beautiful illustration of an almost lifelong journey taken to fully realize the, "already and not yet," truth of the Kingdom life we are called to live.
Joanna shows us that in seeking first the Kingdom of God we have to learn how to let go of our own kingdom, and grasp hold of the love and goodness of our forever faithful God.
I love all of Joanna Weaver's books, but this one is now my favorite. It will be one I will keep on my shelf to refer to again and again.
If you wonder what it looks like to fully trust God, to be fully loved by a good and gracious God, let this book be the light that illuminates your path...back to God and His Word.
Embracing Trust by Joanna Weaver is about trusting the Lord with all your heart, but it’s not just a discussion of theology. It is a hands-on approach with stories from scriptures as well as practical tips on doing the same in our own lives. The point that resonated most with me is letting go and holding on. It is letting go of everything – fear, doubt, anxiety - and holding on to God who loves us and only wants the best for us. It is only when we let go that we can open our hands to receive the blessings He wants to give us, blessings above what we can imagine for ourselves. I found this book at a time when I felt the tug of the Holy Spirit calling me to trust Him to provide for me instead of running myself ragged trying to do it myself. As I worked through the book, I saw the Holy Spirit at work in so many ways. There is a depth of insight and information that will help you wherever you are in your walk with God. Joanna is open and honest about her struggles, and I believe it will touch your heart and challenge you to a deeper walk with God.
This book is so full of challenging messages. Pray God sized prayers. Let God out of the box I have created so He can do what only He can do. Praying shows my continual trust in God. The story Joanna tells about Rees Howell. Pray as though you were the soldiers on the front line. These people prayed and God gave them supernatural insight into the plans of the enemy. At Dunkirk fighting mysteriously stopped allowing 338,226 to be evacuated. One night it appeared that the English forces were going to be overcome by the enemy. The Germans had stopped fighting - when interrogated they were asked why did you stop? The answer because of the hundreds of planes - but there was only 2 English planes. It just shows the power of prayer of ordinary people. Am I willing to join the ranks of the ordinary and pray God sized prayers.
I loved HAVING A MARY HEART IN A MARTHA WORLD by Joanna Weaver, so I was thrilled to read her newest book, EMBRACING TRUST. Here, Joanna shares her own journey of learning to trust God more deeply and encourages us to do so, too. Weaving together personal stories with examples from Scripture, she offers insights and invitations to renew and reframe our thinking when it comes to trusting God. She admits that often she has been more a woman of fear than a woman of faith. I could certainly relate to that! She challenged my sometimes limited view of God with her words, “Let God out of the box of your small thinking” and “think magnificently” about Him. This book is for the person who no longer wants to be controlled by fear and doubt, but wants to grow deeper in faith. You will be changed by our forever-faithful God by embracing trust. Highly recommend!
Trusting God is not something that comes easily. In Embracing Trust Joanna Weaver looks at the many distractions and thoughts that make truly trusting God seem impossible. She points out the freedom from fear, regret and resentment that comes when God is trusted fully. As in her other books, Joanna not only opens the reader to evaluate beliefs but she provides directions on how to overcome the obstacles to trusting God. If you are serious about wanting to trust God more fully and really want to trust him completely for the future that he has planned for you, this book will give you the tools to do just that. It’s a book that is both challenging and so understandable. It’s a great read by yourself book but would make a meaningful study to do with your Bible study or life group. I highly recommend this book.
I have read many of Joanna Weaver's books. Her new book Embracing Trust has so many nuggets of life-changing truth. We must learn to accept God's grace and not push it away. That is a daily choice. I have faced many challenges in life, caring for a child who is multiply handicapped and becoming a widow at 46. Daily I have to trust in God for His help. She says, "At the crossroads of doubt and faith where trust is truly formed". I highly recommend this book to everyone who faces any challenge in life. Faith is something we have and Trust is something we do! Powerful words fill this book. Thank you Joanna for writing this book. I pray many lives are changed through reading and implementing the words of this book into their lives.
She has did it again. If you really want to learn how to Trust God as well as Trust yourself. Its going to enhance your Faith and help you have a better relationship with Jesus. Before you finish a chapter you want to reread. This book really speaks to the heart.
Joanna Weaver's new book, "Embracing Trust: The Art of Letting Go and Holding on to a Forever-Faithful God", takes you on an in-depth soul search into those areas that may not be completely surrendered to the Lord. As she dives into areas such as hiding behind fig leaves, unmet expectations, and unforgiveness; she not only helps you to see areas of untrust, but also gives Biblical strategies on how to turn those areas once and for all over to our Lord Jesus Christ. As Joanna says in her book, "trust is God's love language and it releasees His power to work." I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is desiring to grow in their walk with the Lord and wants learn to fully trust in Him.
This is a book for us today- not yesterday or a year from now- but today. Twenty years in the making; it holds the answers to the questions we all ask.
As society breaks down and people drift along looking, seeking for something tangible; something to hold on to, something to guide them, someone to love them. This book is the key that unlocks all you are seeking after-Jesus.
Joanna weaves her personal struggles and questions into relatable chapters complete with scripture and insights. This book will change your life...if you let it. Allow the truth to soak into your cells and flow throughout your veins. Then, read the book again and prepare for more changes in your relationship with Jesus. A must read!
Embracing Trust is a must read if like me you have trust issues. Making plans and taking control don’t bring peace to my worried mind and soul. Only God can do that.
Joanna Weaver shares personal stories and metaphors that help to understand who God really is and how to begin to let go and trust God. She shares sound scripture and practical advice for deepening your relationship with God and gaining the freedom Jesus bought for us. This book changed my view of God and trust so that I began to learn to speak God’s love language . . . Trust. Thank you, Joanna!
Embracing Trust. Who should I trust? Do I know how to trust? Joanna Weaver, like a best friend, gently leads you to delve into these questions, open your heart and take a good look inside. Her earnest approach, plethora of scripture knowledge, sharing from her heart, help the reader feel comfortable asking the tough questions and openly listening for the answers. This book does not make the reader feel judged or condemned but rather, comfortable and hopeful. This is a wonderful read for anyone wishing to deepen their faith relationship.
Yet another amazing book by Joanna Weaver. My current favorite was “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, but Embracing Trust has taking that spot! With such honesty and clarity, Joanna shares some reasons WHY we find it hard to trust God and so many insights into why and how we CAN put our faith in Him. This book/message came at a time that I was truly trusting God in a way I hadn’t before and in reading Joanna’s heart I found an even greater trust growing that will last the rest of my life!! Highly recommend this book 💙💙
Excellent book for anyone wanting to delve into the mysteries and practicalities of what it means to really trust God in the nitty-gritty of daily life on this sometimes painful planet. Joanna Weaver writes beautifully and from a place of honesty about the hard parts of "letting go and holding on." Her insights inspire me to trust more and to hope in God's forever-faithfulness! Read this book soon!!
Joanna prays the Holy Spirit meets us in the pages of this book and I can tell you He surely did meet me! This book is beautifully written by Joanna Weaver reminding us of how important it is not to just follow the Lord but to follow the Lord with your heart! Not half hearted but finally committed to Him, trusting Him in every way to guide us through our lives. She encourages us to find contentment in what we have and let God handle the rest. If we embrace discipline we are humbling our hearts to His ways for our lives. We are trusting Him through our prayers that His answers will guide us on our journey of life. Joanna spent 20 years on this journey of love and trust of our Lord. As you read this book let it be a reminder of how much love the Lord has for each and every one of us. “That’s the mission we’ve been given as believers - to live our faith in such a way that it creates a pathway that points people to Jesus and gives them a glimpse of the glory of God.” I highly recommend everyone read this book and give as a gift to someone. It will be a true blessing from God if you do!
One quote that stood out from this book is “From the beginning of this project I’ve had one prayer: that this book might help listeners, and myself, build an unshakeable trust in God that goes beyond mere head knowledge and embeds itself deep in our hearts, helping us to be steadfast and immovable (1 Cor. 15:58 NKJV), as we anchor our lives to these rock-solid truths: God is good, He loves me, I belong to Him, and He takes care of His own.”
“O for grace to trust Him more” is one of the great anthems of our lives. In adversity, when our world is shattered and our faith is tested, we have to choose to keep trusting God. We have to demolish idols, choose to deny ourselves in pursuit of the upside down kingdom, and be totally surrendered to and content in the sovereignty of God.
