When Jeff's best friend Mike disappears in the fall of their senior year, Jeff starts to doubt everything he's ever known about their small town, and the familiar people in it. What happened to Mike? Jeff has got to find him. Then Jeff starts to have vivid dreams where he hears Mike say, "Come get me." Their friend Kirby is in the dreams, too, but Jeff's afraid to tell him. For with every dream, Jeff feels the power of his bond to Mike, and he also sees that Mike may have had another life, one that Jeff knew nothing about.
I personally really enjoyed this book. I think that Shelley Sykes ( the author) proabaly had something like this happen in her life. In this book a young man named Jeffs' best friend, Mike, one day dissapeared. In this book Jeff and Mike are BEST friends. I would compare them to my friend Hannah. So Jeff slowly starts going crazy and has dreams about where Jeff is and how he can find him. Then another friend of Mike's come into the picture and becomes a suspect of possibly a murder. Until they find Mikes dead body- over a year after he had gone missing. I think that this book is a really good book that deals with relationships and drama and death. I would defienelty reccomend this book to almost anybody. It is a new favorite of mine:)
After being forced upon with a burdence of the death of Mike, Jeff finds himself alone in a town with nobody to be there for him. To begin, the start of the book started off pretty slow. But soon picks up when the book takes a turn and brings up the thought of Mike being murdered. And this is where I personally began to be interested in the book. But the problem is Jeff has no idea where to even start. Because at this moment in time, Jeff has no idea who he can and cannot trust. Even though this is a fiction book, I would disagree with this placement and personally I would place this in the category of realistic fiction, as I could relate to many of the thoughts and feelings (emotions) that this book contained. Lastly, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery and suspense and loves to sit on the edge of their seat while reading the whole book.
"For Mike" is a book about Mike's disappearance. Mike's best friend Jeff is looking for clues to find him. Jeff has dreams about Mike calling for him. Jeff later solved the mystery for Mike's disappearance. It was interesting to read about Jeff having nightmares about Mike telling him to come get him. The book starts out slow but then gets interesting later on.
A terrific "hidden gem." Enjoyed it so much that I have read it more than once. Because the story begins at the end of September when Mike disappears, this is perfect time to read this spooky mystery. It is also a very moving story which illustrates the bonds of family and friends, even after death. I wish Shelley Sykes would write more books.

Jeff spends his senior year of high school driving himself mad looking for his missing best friend, Mike. I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense of this book, I felt as though I was Jeff in a frantic search for Mike. I think this book accurately gave off the emotion of when you lose someone you care deeply about. I would recommend this book to young adults (14-18) that enjoy mystery novels.
I read this book in one sitting! It was beautiful and I loved the way it was written. :) It is kind of an emotional book and I did end up crying a few times, but only because it was really heavy. Most definitely one of my favorites right now even though it's short, but I would 100% recommend it. :)
I read this as part of Rockville Library's monthly reading challenge. It's a book with a person of color (a challenge for the month of February). School library copy!!
This is mainly about Mike. Mike disappears and his best friend Jeff would get these voices in his dreams with mike beat up and begging for Jeff to find him. Jeff and Mike are close friends and each time those voices are in Jeffs head his bond gets stronger and stronger with Mike. Through out this long journey Jeff starts to think does Mike have another hiding life. Eventually Jeff starts to catch on to things and thinks he knows how Mike disappeared. Another one of Mikes friend wants to find out what happened to him. His name is berry, Berry and Jeff team up and investigate Mikes disappearance.
Jeff and berry have figured out that one way they get clues and leads is from Jeffs dreams, as jeff has dreams Mike will appear in them and say things to help them find out where Mike has went. Jeff eventually finds out the real truth and finds out that Mike has passed. Jeff followed all the clues that Mike in his dreams left for him
This book is honestly a hidden gem. I was in my school library and had closed my eyes grabbing the first three books my fingertips touched. Of the three there was no comparison, For Mike blew them out of the water. I could have enjoyed it more because I wasn't expecting much, though. A random book in my small school library that didn't have many ratings at all on Goodreads didn't thrill me much. Before I realized it, I had finished it and was wondering why Sykes hasn't written more books. It's a small book, so please don't knock it till you try it -- you may be just as surprised as I was.
I liked it. It was entertaining. I liked the mystery feel to it. But I also got a sense of an agenda the author was trying to push. Whether it be Catholicism, psychic dreams, or ghosts and spirits, I felt like Sykes wasn't too confident in the readers acceptance of elements in her story. So she pushed it, just so slightly. Just enough to condiscend to the reader. I believe doing that disrespects not only the reader, but also the story. It could have been great. With a few more characters and a bit more respect, this story could have been award-worthy.
A story that is as emotionally affecting as it is shocking, the twists in the end will leave the reader surprised and moved. Jeff, our lead character, is an engaging young man who slowly searches for closure regarding Mike, while at the same time trying to find his identity through that.
