Simon Beecroft is the New York Times bestselling author of LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary as well as many other Star Wars titles for children, including Star Wars The Clone Wars: Watch Out For Jabba the Hutt, Star Wars: Luke Skywalker’s Amazing Story, and Star Wars: Beware the Dark Side. He has also written books on subjects as diverse as dinosaurs, extreme weather, future technology, Nelson Mandela, Power Rangers, and the Fantastic Four.
Overly simplified synopsis of the Star Wars Original film trilogy involving Luke Skywalker, his buddies, and his battle to free the galaxy from his despotic dad, and free his dad from himself, which is quite an inspiring story for kids. So for the Star Wars fans in training (those 3 to 8) I recommend this book to start their own Jedi journey, so they too can find as Luke did, and as his portrayer Mark Hamill never found and never will (he's not a hero, he just plays one in movies, let's put it gently that way) that the true hero is within you, and the true Force is one generated by your own beliefs and your own values. Three stars The Reboot of the Jedi!
A book profiling the life adventures of Luke Skywalker. From his humble beginnings as a farmboy to his adventures saving the galaxy and confronting his father. A great read
DescriptionGet your child hooked on reading as they meet Star Wars' Luke Skywalker and learn all about his amazing story. Designed to engage even the most reluctant reader, this action-packed Star Wars Reader is all about your child's favourite hero, Luke Skywalker.
This is a Level 1 reader from DK. I really liked how the book introduced characters from movies 4-6 but included the younger Anakin Skywalker. The explanation of characters relationships to each other really helped to book flow. A good introduction to Star Wars characters.
DK has a winning product here. Written at the 2nd Grade level (AR 2.3) it's got lots of great photos that outline Luke's life-- starting on Tatooine and ending where his father, Darth Vader, ceases to be a bad guy.
In between, it talks about C3PO, Leia, Hans, Yoda, the destruction of the Death Star, and Anakin. It's all presented in a very abbreviated fashion, but most kids are going to be able to follow the plot without problems.
I'm going to highly recommend this book as a practice reader for reluctant readers based on the Star Wars appeal, and based on the reaction of my own 7 y.o. son.
Ok - this book is going to get a difficult review. It's a good early reader with simple words and will capture kids who like Star Wars and make them want to read it themselves. But....if they only know bits and pieces of the Star Wars story and haven't seen all 6 movies in the right order (and which early readers have??) then it gives away Most of the secrets - who Darth Vader really is, his relationship with Obi Wan and with Luke.
Spoiler spoiler spoiler - there should be a big warning label on the front cover!!
Be warned, this book covers events in all three movies of the original trilogy (i.e. New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi). The author does quite a good job simplifying the story, but there are a few statements that aren't quite true. (For example, Luke used the force to make his shot that destroyed the Death Star, but this book claims it was a "lucky shot."
This is pretty much a recap of Lukes life. If a kid has not seen the movie then it will pretty much ruin everything for them and not for any really good reason. It is fairly easy for a beginning reader to get into though. Grades K+
Basically Luke's life. I read it to my 3 1/2 yr old who seemed to like it. Only problem is if he was older and have seen some of the movies then some of the plots would be given away.
