This is the second in the series but my first. I didnt feel like it mattered as it's easy to get straight ino the story and no previous knowledge was needed.
Gary is a British guy hiding in Australia, with a mysterious past. He works as needed for a local private investigation agency which is really run by the office manager Debbie. Gary is hired in a security role for Austin Gould, an actor turned politician, during his campaign for office. He has to deal with driving Austin around and then some graffiti at the campaign office but things escalate when Austin's girlfriend is shot. At the same time, Debbie is involved in a missing person investigation.
I really liked the characters of Debbie and Gary. The interactions seemed so normal. The pace of the book was quite quick and it was written in a light, humourous and very easy to read manner.
All in all, a very enjoyable read and I will definitely look out for the next in the series.

Glory Hunter is a murder mystery featuring Debbie Haring and Gary Hollins.
Haring is a PI who hires Hollins to run security detail for an Australian politician/actor. Scandals and murders ensue, and it is all wrapped up neatly in the end, which is what you want to see in a murder mystery. There’s also a subplot involving Debbie’s son, with a its own satisfying conclusion.
We never learn why Hollins is hiding out in Australia. I felt as though there should have been some revelation, given that we are teased with this in multiple places. This is tangled up in a thread about a local criminal, Verdicatti, which goes nowhere. I think the mobster is supposed to be a clue or maybe a red herring, but that point didn’t work for me. Or maybe I just didn’t understand the point.
The writing style was great, and the humor fell in just the right places. Very enjoyable read!

Page-turning suspense with humor and a fantastic buddy duo!
A British tough guy with a mysterious past hides out in Australia, hoping to stay under the radar, but is recruited by the housewife office manager for a detective agency, who's really the brains of the outfit, since her boss spends his days sleeping off binges in the back office. I love the pairing of Hollins and Debbie, who are rendered with great chemistry, and it's fun (and rare!) to read about male/female friendships that aren't sexual at some level. Beach has a deft touch with the thornier issues, and the Australian setting and vernacular, combined with the lively pace, made it a fast read.
It's a complete story, as was Gun Shy, but the set-up is perfect for subsequent adventures. I can't wait for the next one!

Interesting twist on a political thriller. Would like to know the background of the main characters but that info is probably in other books of the series.

I've read both Hollins and Haring books now and I've really enjoyed them - they are well-crafted detective procedurals. There seems the perfect balance between tracking down leads and fending off those who would foil their efforts.
The characters are well-drawn and believable, though Debbie Haring (the female lead) seems a little flat, more stereotypical in her actions and responses. But both seem like real people, not super-heroes.
I also like that there is usually more than one case to follow at the same time, leading to distractions that could compromise efforts towards solving all of them. And the involvement of the police is accepted - all teams work together, though maybe with some frustration on the part of the police.
I'm looking forward to the next on in the series!

Despite his attempts to keep a low profile, he is thrust into the role of bodyguard to a celebrity political candidate. Within days he finds himself involved in the killing of a beautiful actress. Is it accidental or deliberate murder?
Glory Hunter is a fast-paced, well-written murder mystery with an intriguing sub-plot, full of surprising twists and misunderstandings.
Beach’s characters are engaging and believable and I very much enjoyed the humorous interplay.
