Stuff. We have too much of it. Clothing, kitchen gadgets, electronics, home decor. And more of it arrives on our doorstep all the time. Our stuff takes up an incredible amount of our space, time, energy, and money. But do all these possessions truly make us happier?
Certified professional organizer and bestselling author Jennifer Ford Berry says no. Rather than living for our stuff, what actually gives us joy is knowing and living out our purpose in life. In Make Room, Berry shows you how to live a more meaningful and intentional life by revealing how to
- define your purpose - plan your time - declutter your home - prepare for the future - and much more
If you long to get rid of what distracts you from living out your God-given calling in life, this book is your roadmap to success, offering principles to recognize and eliminate anything that is cluttering up your life.
I am taking some of the steps I read 📚 and trying to implement them into my life. Thier is alot of spiritual writings. Overall, great advice and book 📖 👍
I bought this marked done as an ebook, likely on sale, in anticipation of the new year. Given that the author is a certified professional organizer, I thought she would devote more to decluttering. Yet, the focus is at a higher level where she focuses on ten principles (possibilities, purpose, possessions, preparing, planning your time, parting with clutter, practicing stewardship, privileged giving, providing hospitality, and partnering with God). The book's conceit is interesting, but the attention to each of these issues could have had more depth — instead, each chapter seems like a Pinterest blog post on living one's best life. I noted a few useful ideas and thoughts, but there is likely a specific reader that the book will particularly target.
Once someone tells me to just manifest what I want by speaking about it like it’s already happening I’m out….if that’s all it took then I wouldn’t need your book.
Quick easy read. I feel the book would be more suited to someone already on their organization or decluttering journey or read in conjunction with a more step by step guide. Thought-provoking and a great reminder that we are stewards of what God has provided. Will probably find myself referring back to this book as I continue on my journey. Enjoyed the Bible passages throughout.
Motivating and concise! I really enjoyed the insights and Christian perspective to the topic. She doesn't promote minimalism for the sake of minimalism, more stewarding what we have been blessed with well and being free to give to those in need, while simplifying our spaces so our objects aren't controlling us and taking up all of our time and energy.
I personally loved that not only was it a clutter book as you would assume it to be (only dealing with material things) but decluttering your life as a whole so that you can walk in purpose. If you're not walking in the plans and purposes of what God has for you in this life, then what's the point? Great read for me, will definitely reread in the future
